Proprietors have apparently made the decision since last visit to move from restaurant linens to a single, disposable paper napkin, rendering the experience both much cheaper feeling and much less practical. But more baffling, have also chosen to remove all pricing from menus, and I am not interested in guessing what I can afford to order--let alone the restaurant potentially guessing what I can afford to pay for what I have ordered on the fly at checkout. Went for dinner when visiting from out of town. The food was ok. Chili paneer was good and is more sweet than spicy. The dal soup and lamb saag were ok. The paneer karahi was very salty. Service was good. They brought out of the food quickly. I'd give it 3 stars based on the food, service, and ambiance. The bad review is because they seem to be knowingly overcharging dine-in customers. When we paid, the waitress brought a handheld device with just the total price and percentage to tip (based on post-tax total) without itemization. We asked for a printed receipt after paying. The charged prices were all between 4-14% higher than the menu prices--in total, less than a $2 difference. We asked the waitress and the older lady about the difference and they said the menu doesn't reflect the 'new' prices. They didn't offer to correct the menu or the charged price. The online take-out price and the printed menu prices matched as of the time of this review. Check your receipts if you dine in! read more

We had dinner at Flavor of India few days ago. Food was good, the portions are getting smaller, which I think is the sign of time. It is also a little pricey for what you get. We had water for drink. It smelled so bad that we couldn't drink it. I ordered Saag with lamb. My food was very good. My friend said his food was very salty. We noticed the bill was showing items with different prices than what we have seen on the menu. When we mentioned it to the host, she smiled and said "Yes, we know. We have a new system and we have not updated the menu with the higher price yet". I said "you know that you can not do that" few times,. Every time she laughed and shook her head like the way they do. We have already paid the bill, so we decided to just leave. read more

I'd rather have a precooked curry from the grocery store, not worth the money here. The shrimp and chicken curry combo was more like soup. Very watery, not creamy at all. Shrimp was severely over cooked, had a rubber texture. The chicken was on the dry side also, tasted like it was overdone as well. The rice was simple, just plain with no peas. The garlic naan was just ok, not very much ingredients on it. Thick and doughy. Didn't taste like it was in the tandoori long even though it was burnt in a few areas. Where do I begin! I had taken a hiatus from yelp but the food n service of this place is so exceptionally bad that I had to come back to yelp to write a review... First, washrooms are very unhygienic. Faucets were dirty and rusted. They either don't turn on or don't turn off. There's no baby changing station in the washrooms. As an Indian who cooks, I can certify that food here is highly disappointing! Not at all 4.5 stars standard. We ordered Chana Masala, Dal Makhni, Aloo Parantha, Garlic Naan and Non-veg Thali. The beans in Chana Masala were hard and stale and were not boiled properly. The gravy was tasteless. It felt like half boiled beans were just thrown into a pre-made gravy and served. The cereal used in Dal Makhni is 'Maha Sabut' but they had used 'Maha Chhilka' so it wasn't really Dal Makhni. The Aloo Parantha (its a stuffed potato pancake) had almost no Potatoes in it. Chicken in the non veg Thali was only average. The non veg Thali came with Gulab Jamun. It was SUPER hard, it was impossible to cut through it. We took chai to go. We wanted to add sugar to it but the server never got us any sort of stirrer, and ran away to take other tables' order. We sat clueless for a couple of seconds figuring out how to add sugar. Finally I had to take silverware from an unoccupied table. Please don't be swayed by the 4.5 stars. This place isn't worth it. read more

The first time I ordered Chicken Tikka Masala and I didn't really like how tough the chicken was, but this time I ordered Chicken Shahi Korma and the chicken tasted very fresh and tender! Probably because I ordered right when the restaurant opened, lucky me. The Chicken Shahi Korma was so good, buttery, and creamy. The chicken swims in a delightful yellow sauce that complements the rice so well! The Special Samosa was something I did not expect. I was expecting samosa to come in the shape of a samosa, but this seemed like it's some kind of deconstructed samosa. It's got a layer of potatoes underneath the chickpeas, green peas, and other sauces covering the top. Nonetheless very good! They packaged it well and it traveled easily without any spill. read more

Authentic Punjabi restaurant which is rare and surprising to find in a small town like Springfield. I'm Punjabi, so I love a well made tandoori chicken and be able to chat with the host in Punjabi. Their food was great and they make fresh 'tawa roti' which is rare and took me by surprise. We ordered tandoori chicken, papri chaat & goat curry. All turned out great. Best Indian food in Springfield, and very good in general. I had roti, shrimp curry, lamb biryani, and an egg burji. The shrimp curry was tasteless - we told the waitress and they remade the dish immediately, adding the missing masala and curry. The owner came out and checked on everyone in the restaurant and made sure our other dishes were good, which they were. I recommend the lamb biryani and the egg burji. Although the delivery charges are OUTRAGEOUS, the food itself is of high quality and delicious. The vegetable samosas were crisp and flavorful. I truly enjoyed the Chicken Tikka Marsala, I asked them add extra cream so it tasted more like butter chicken which I LOVE. The Tandoori chicken was so juicy, flavorful it truly melted in my mouth. The food here is decent enough but fairly unexceptional. The flavors are there, but the spices don't necessarily taste fresh. The saag paneer was creamier than I was used to (it seemed like the cheese was more in the sauce than in chunks). Spice levels were balanced appropriately to what we requested, and the bread was quite good. I don't know if they had an off-day, but most bins were empty. Employees were friendly, but unfortunately, the restaurant is not clean: there were stains on the table linens, the seats and the walls of the booth I sat in. I had to ask for a different fork, because the one I got had dried-on food residue on it. We came in during an off time, around 3:45 and were warmly welcomed and seated. We were The only ones in the restaurant for at least the first 20 minutes of being there. The tikka chicken, garlic nan, and Samosas were delicious and authentic. The only complaint I would offer is that the place did not seem very clean. I'm an out of towner. We have really good food in Chicago. This was my first visit to Flavor of India here in Springfield and a carry out order. Both dishes were delicious. We were both very happy. I had the Lamb Vindaloo. The lamb was tender and fresh. The sauce was perfect. They ask for a level of spicy from 1-6. I chose 3 and it was just right. I normally can enjoy spicy foods. If you are a self proclaimed wimp with spicy try 1-2. We had an appetizer called onion bhaji. Not far from an onion ring but with lentle flour. Delicious. The other dish was mushroom saag and it was also delicious. Super happy with this. Although I am not an expert on authentic Indian home cooking, I would guess that this restaurant is just this. The food was ok. The biryani was basically basmati rice with mixed vegetables and was way spicier that expected. For the cost, the food wasn't worth it. I ordered garlic naan and it was really good . However the spice made the mixed vegetables unrelishable. Overall tone your spice down if you are ordering from here may be a 2-3/ 6 stars is enough for Indians(moderate) and about 2 for others (less spicy) read more
