Spent a fun Columbus day weekend at Springfield and stopped in for their early bird dinner and it was fantastic! Took them a bit for service but it was great so we didn't mind waiting. Decorations were so cute and at 5:30pm, they were already packed with a long line out the door! We ordered the oyster appetizers, chicken Monterey, Cod Dejonghe and baked stuffed shrimp and it was all so so delicious. Came with this sweet butter roll that melts in your mouth. On our cross-crountry road trip we treated Diane's family to another memorable dinner here. After excellent homemade Bread & Honey Butter, various diners enjoyed Shrimp de Jongue, Wisconsin Cheese Curds, Stuffed Shrimp, and Shrimp Cocktail. I particularly liked the cheesy and nicely packed Crabmeat Stuffed Shrimp and crispy-topped Shrimp de Jonghe. Next up, New England Clam Chowder was real thick and creamy. And a Garden Salad was tasty with a lot of shredded cheese on top and a vibrant Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing. I also enjoyed my entree of Broiled Salmon and Au Gratin Potatoes. But it seemed like an odd combination. Others at my table of 10 ordered Fried Lobster Tails, Fried Shrimp, The Captain's Platter, Snow Crab Leg Clusters and Fettuccine Alfredo. Our principal server, Marlene R., did an excellent job of coordinating ordered food items with their corresponding diners. Food portions were large. So no one ordered dessert. Beautiful historic mansion with a warm, dimly lit atmosphere that made for a relaxing and inviting evening. We had a lovely window table, and although our waitress was a bit busy, she provided great service. The food was delicious, especially the Escargot Stuffed Mushroom Caps--they were the highlight of the meal! The lobster tail and shrimp were excellent. The crab legs were a little overcooked, and I've had better Oysters Rockefeller, but overall we had a wonderful dining experience. We'll definitely be back! read more

called to make a reservation Sunday on Father's Day and was told they are closed on holidays. it's ironic though that I called on Friday Juneteenth and they were open. The only explanation she gave me was that they are closed on business holidays. It makes no sense being that on Juneteenth banks were closed and sta te workers are off. Whereas Father's Day is not a business holiday and on a Sunday which states they are open on Sundays. if closed for one holiday then should be closed for all holidays. What can I say about a good place to dine? I immensely enjoyed the dinner I had there. I skipped the appetizers and headed straight to the main course. The homemade Bread, sweet butter, and salad made a plentiful start to our meal. I had the salmon, which was very flavorful and well-cooked. My husband had the stuffed shrimp, which was tasty as well. We used to love this place but our last couple of visits have changed that tune. Yesterday our male server was awful, prices were higher with less food on the plate. My husband paid for a lobster tail made out of rubber. We had a long drive afterward so we arrived when they opened at 3:30 and it was well after 5pm before we got out of there. Came here for a birthday celebration with friends was seated at a very cool section and was able to be put at a warmer section not under a vent. The menu was filled with plenty of options for all tastes. The service was attentive to drinks and the delivery was slightly disjointed with rare prime rib steak taking a few minutes longer or it probably didn't fit on the already full servers tray. What a lovely house-turned-restaurant! We went on a Sunday evening at around 6pm. A short wait of about 15 minutes and we were seated. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Members of my family always said good things about this place. However, I went here for first time for an anniversary dinner and did not see the hype. Very vintage inside, which is fine. Sunday night, not overly busy, and took 45min to be seated. I want to say they forgot about us. All I wanted was crab legs and to my luck, Sold out. Tried to do a steak filet, sold out. If I'm a restaurant owner I'm overstocking my top sellers, and to my surprise they had lobster available. Me and my wife agreed Texas Roadhouse would have been a fine option. I pass by this restaurant every day on my way home to Decatur from work. I made a 5:15 reservation on a Friday because I get off of work in Springfield at 5:00 pm. I got there around 5:16 and only had to wait around 3-4 minutes. Just in time for the "early bird " special. I asked the waitress if I still had time to order from the early bird menu, she looked at her watch and smiled and bought me an early bird menu. I ordered the shrimp and fish platter. I got a salad and that warm whole loaf of bread with the butter. What a nice surprise! I enjoyed it very much. My platter came as I was finishing the salad and bread. I must admit, there wasn't to much imagination put into the salad, nothing stands out about it but I was glad to get it anyway. Everything on the platter was piping hot and it was so filling that I could only eat half of it and had to get a to go box for enjoying later.The ambience was great and as you can imagine the place was buzzing. My entire meal came to around $15.00 without the tip. It was a great deal for me. I will definitely return to try out more items on the menu. Thanks for the local experience. read more

Helped move my son to Springfield this weekend and as a thank you he took us all out for seafood dinner. He had been wanting to try this place since arriving in the city a few weeks earlier. It's in an old Victorian style house and we enjoyed looking around reading framed newspaper articles on the history of restaurant, building and Springfield area. Looks like they have repeatedly been named best seafood restaurant in Springfield. It was a wonderful experience overall. We had a late dinner around 8pm. We first noticed the prices on menu were quite reasonable and were amazed how large the portions were when our food was served. We ordered cheese curds appetizers but they didn't come out prior to the entrees. Also a couple of us ordered a shrimp platter that included a shrimp cocktail. The shrimp cocktail should have come out prior to the entrees as well but came with rest of meal. Every dinner includes salad, fresh baked bread and choice of potato. My butterflied shrimp was huge. I couldn't finish the 7 shrimp platter I ordered. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Our server was very kind and attentive. She got approval from manager to throw in a free brownie dessert to make up for late arrival of appetizers. We will enjoy returning to this restaurant when we visit my son in Springfield. read more

We wanted to take my mom out to dinner for her birthday. I called 4 days in advance and made a reservation for 7 people for 5pm and confirmed the date with the guy over the phone. His response was really casual "Ok yep. Got it.".I have him my name again and he said yep again. There isn't an opentable or online reservation system. Your basically trusting whoever you talk to on the phone. No one calls or texts to confirm. We arrive at 4:55pm and I check in. They don't have our reservation (!) so I'm hesitant to put in my name for 7 people because we had to be somewhere at 7pm. The hostess assured me it would be just a few minutes. In fact she said I can seat you in a few minutes upstairs. We wait in the waiting area and my husband goes to the bar room to get a drink for us. He's sitting at the bar at the end stool which is about 5 feet from the hostess stand so he can hear pretty clearly when she calls a party's name. 15 minutes goes by and no one called our party. We see other larger walk-in parties that came in when we did (a few after us) being called. We were even listening for a "party of seven" at the end in case we missed the name. My brother goes up to check on our table-" just a few minutes" says the hostess. We keep waiting and it's now 5:30 and I'm at the point where I'm wondering if I'm taking my mom to Andy's custard for dinner down the street since we were running out of time. My sister in law goes up again to check with the hostess and she said "I called your party a while ago." served up which a big side of snark at my sister in law. . Whoa whoa whoa pump the breaks, ma'am. We had checked in with the hostess 2x and my husband was sitting right next to the host stand. They never called our party and this hostess had the nerve to bark at us. We were stuck and it was late so we sat down and had to order our drinks and meals at once. Our waiter did his best. Our drinks were excellent. Great dirty martinis and old fashioneds. My entree was the lobster tail and stuffed broiled shrimp. It was underdone and mushy and so was my brother's same order. My son ordered a medium rare steak and it came out on the very well side of medium. It was barely pink. We ordered an escargot too and those were still pretty good including the garlic bread that comes with it. The light hanging over the table was so bright and low. That it was like being under interrogation all through dinner trying to talk to my husband. I guess beca we are taller. Came into Chesapeake tonight for Dad's 93rd bday . Service and food was amazing . Our server Amanda was amazing . She was very personable. Food was timed perfectly. We didn't feel rushed at all. She greeted us with specials and suggested the crab stuffed mushrooms which were excellent. We were enjoying each others company as it's been awhile and we were catching up. She let us know there was no rush . Food came out perfect . Everything tastes great and was nice and hot . After dinner she brought Dad a brownie desert with a candle and sang happy birthday to him with us . Very affordable $25 per person I did have a problem with the elegant cloth napkins flashing with the plastic tablecloth and as far as the silverware it's something like you would see in a School lunchroom last of the concerns is there was no to go cups of any kind not a single one in the restaurant I myself I'm allergic to bleach the detergent they wash their glasses in as state required so I was not actually to have able to have anything to drink I hope they fix these concerns it is a nice atmosphere and very very affordable read more

My wife and I had shared a birthday dinner with another couple back in April. They picked to eat at Chesapeake and my wife had never been and was excited as seafood is her favorite cuisine. It had been many years since I had been to the Seafood House but the decor still reminded me of when I ate here as a young kid. The pricing reflected the current economy and although for my wallet a bit too high my wife said it was pretty much in step with other seafood eateries around the Midwest. I ordered the lobster tail with shrimp (my wife wanted the lobster) so I also ordered a petit filet for myself. The mixed rice side was amazing, the shrimp were average, she told me the lobster was good but she has had much better and the steak was a letdown. The steak was ordered medium but was too chewy and lacked seasoning. Overall, in the circumstance of being invited by other friends we both would come back but is not anywhere near the top of our favorites for Springfield. read more

While traveling, we like to dine at different restaurants. I did some online research and decided to try Chesapeake Seafood. I was intrigued by the history of the establishment and the Early Bird menu looked great. Specials from 3:30 to 5:30 were perfect for us; as we planned an early dinner after some historical tours before returning to our hotel. Upon arrival, about 4 p.m., there was plenty of private parking available. Entrance was lovely, and we were immediately greeted and seated. Our table was at a large window with beautiful view of a memorial garden. Nice decor, felt like I was in a deluxe steamship dining room. Darryl was on point with water and ready to take order, we told him we would need a few minutes. The dinner menu looked great, but no mention of Early Bird specials. When Darryl returned, I asked about Early Bird, and he brought us that menu. While we were there, I overheard two other patrons request Early Bird prices. This did not set well with me, seemed like standard procedure to not offer upfront; note to management, if you advertise it, present it. Now, for the food. The salads were unimaginative, basically bagged lettuce with some cheese sprinkled on top. But, it was fresh and there were many dressing choices. The hot loaf of bread was yummy! Entrees were excellent, I had cod and he opted for shrimp and chicken. Disappointed in side dish of au gratin potatoes; looked and tasted like something you would expect at a grade school cafeteria. Overall, the food was mediocre; still giving 4 star review was ambience and impeccable service. I would go again, but try something different from the menu. Went here last Sunday for my birthday dinner. We were seated on the porch. It is enclosed and has a heater, but I will never again sit there during the winter months. I am still very sick as a result of being too cold there, probably pneumonia or bronchitis. They need to take better care of their guests with adding more insulation around the porch and adding a heater or turning that one up higher. read more

Nice atmosphere for supper and Anthony did a fine job serving. The food was good and well prepared. The portions are average so get the soup and salad options. The lobster bisque was tasty as well as the clam chowder. The whole catfish was well prepared and the twin 5oz lobster tails were good. However, the au gratin potatoes were disappointing so you may want to choose the baked potato. We did really enjoy the chocolate mousse cake with coffee for dessert.
