So glad that I looked this place up on yelp. Patrons are so friendly!!! Served by Matt who is so lovely and patient, arrived a little hungover and indecisive and he was super accommodating. Clean, laid back establishment. You can tell it's a local bar but the difference is that the patrons here are so warm and inviting. Met a bouncer called Joe, very professional and easy going but he enforces the rules. I love the layout too, there's something for everyone - a main bar, and outside patio and a dance floor. A very nice bouncer greeted us at the door. The bartender was literally running behind the bar to keep everyone taken care of and super friendly. I went to the bathroom a few times and saw girls using the mens room all night (had one person bathrooms so you can lock door). A couple was having sex in womens room so I used the Men's room like all the other girls had been doing all night. When I came out, the bouncer told me that was not allowed and promptly walked me to the door and kicked me out of the bar. I asked why all the other girls were allowed but I wasn't and he told me because I was white. read more

not a bad little pub, the drink were fairly priced and the bartender got to me quickly even though there was a good crowd. i didn't stay long but it seemed like a nice vibe and the folks were jamming along to the guy on the guitar, rumor had it that there was a pretty popular karaoke on thursday nights. nothing bad about this place, but nothing that really popped out. My favorite Dover spot. Cozy, warm atmosphere without the pretense. Come here every year for a small high school "reunion" with friends and they have no problem with us moving around tables to accommodate our group. The staff is very friendly. Great bands. My favorite bar in dover for sure. It is located really close to other fun bars too so you can walk to Irish mike's, smithers and others right downtown. The drinks are priced well and there is no cover, which is really cool if you are bar hopping. read more

So after being a patron of this bar every other weekend for. the last 4 years- after closing my tab and reaching in my pocket- the bartender chased me down to remind me that I hadn't tipped him on my tab. You'd think after 4 years they would know I like to personally tip them at the end of the night when the lights come on. Not only did I feel disrespected by the bartender who knows me- but Chris is a real jerk. He acts like he runs the joint and seems to believe that an " I'm sorry- I got heavy handed" will be OK for a drink made Incorrectly. Back in to the rude bartender demanding a tip- after spending the last 2 weekends there and spending well over $400 both weekends- us putting cash in hand both times for a tip- it's beyond unacceptable for them to demand a tip because I had to count out my money at the side of the bar. While visiting a friend in Delaware, we dropped by the Golden Fleece Tavern to see what that was all about. And oh man, am I glad we did. The atmosphere's as relaxing and intimate as a good coffeehouse, the live band that was playing (Murray and White) was nice and easy on the ears, and their house special drinks were tasty and hilariously named. I had a Loose Liberal and then a Golden Apple and both were delicious. I even got to meet Diana, one of the owners and a fairly successful entrepreneur around downtown Dover -- my friend's been a regular at some of her businesses so I'd heard a lot about her. And their website's even funny! I am most definitely coming back next time I'm in the area. read more

Had a great time here. Came by for karaoke based on a tip from the bartender at the green turtle and was not disappointed. f Now, don't expect fancy cocktails with freshly made simple syrup or fine wines but it like beer and mixed drinks- it's the place. The drinks are CHEAP as far as DC standards but I don't know what the average in Dover is- beers were like $5 for 2. The bartenders were fun and people were fun. I wish there was a bar like this by my house with fun people who aren't pretentious. Like me and my friend and I had a drunk conversation about how we should move here after going there. A great place to come and relax in downtown Dover all the staff is extremely friendly and attentive as they can possibly be Chris Matt Kate and lamb are just a few of the great drink slingers there a great place to be at any day of the week and they always have new specials for the people like myself on a budget. If none of that is selling you they are also k9 friendly just try to make sure it isn't a weekend or else it will be too packed. read more

I don't get the fascination with The Chive, but I guess every photoblog has their fans. Still, it was odd to walk into the Golden Fleece and see KCCO all over the walls and shirts of patrons. Even on the weekday of my visit the place was somewhat busy for a city that otherwise seems to shut down at 10 PM, and while I'm not usually one to look for something more than a pint of whatever's on draft, I was cajoled into trying an oatmeal cookie shot. While we all agreed that it did kinda taste like its title was meant to imply, the low ABVs of the liqueurs used to create the concoction wasn't really doing much for my extreme case of sobriety, so back to beer I went. read more

I hate leaving bad reviews but this place is weak. Drinks way over priced and the bartender is going to ignore you have to for he or she that catches their attention. I handed the bartender money for a drink and in his tough guy voice said, "don't throw money at me"! This establishment should be embarrassed for treating military families so poorly. Last night I went to the Golden Fleece with a few friends for the very first time. At the ID check outside, the 'bouncer' told me he would not accept my military ID as a valid card for checking my date of birth because I am a dependent, and not active duty. I told him this is a legal form of ID and he repeated himself saying that I was a dependent and they do not accept military dependent cards because they are not legal. Just to clarify, my GOVERNMENT ISSUED military ID which is WAY more recent than my driver's license, is not only an acceptable form of identification by our US federal government, but it is the ONLY ID I use for TSA/check-ins at airports, getting my driver's license and passports updated and every other possible need of identification in this country- particularly to gain access on any American military base in and out of our country- not something that any bar go-er in Delaware is allowed to do. But no access granted last night until I provided the Golden Fleece a different 'legal' ID card. What a joke... especially considering this is a 'military' town. Way to support the thousands and thousands of people that are literally keeping your town and bar in business. After checking out the GF Facebook page, I noticed they gave discounts to Veterans on Veterans day. Sounds like a very nice gesture! Funny thing is, a veteran has a 'retired' military ID, also NOT an active duty ID and to go a step further, a retired Vet's ID card looks incredibly similar to a dependent ID card. I'd be willing to bet they accept all retired ID cards though... and you cannot deny one and not the other. I can only assume these actions are due to very poor management and are borderline discriminatory actions towards all spouses of military members. read more

Best bar in Dover! I was here for 1 night and stopped by. The back Patio is perfect! Great band, very friendly people, mostly locals. And, they immediately welcomed me and were calling me a "local" by end of the night. Met the owner. This place is Great! I'll be back every time I'm in town. read more

I enjoyed my short time here. My friend and I got service right away, the price of our mixed drinks were around $5.50 each, and the back patio was very charming. I would come back to this place if I wanted to hang out with a small group of friends. It was an overall good vibe. A really cute pub. They only serve alcohol here so no food unless you order it from outside. They will let you bring it in. The bar has expanded to the building next-door and has two different feels. The new side is where the Dj or band plays and is loud and crowded after 10. The "original" side is quaint and cute and much more quiet. The patio bar is cash only - and a nice hangout space where the music is low and you can smoke. The crowd is a little too young and too crowded for me after 10- but a nice after dinner pub or grab a drink after work place. read more
