I was part of a large group dining here and notified the server ahead of time that I have a strict whole food plant-based diet and an oil allergy. I kept my request incredibly simple: boiled or baked potatoes and steamed vegetables. Shockingly, they told me they had NO vegetables available. The server was kind enough to ask the chef if anything could be prepared for me, but after checking, she returned and said, "I'm sorry, there's nothing we can do for you." So while the rest of my party of nine ate food that was oily and overcooked, I sat there with nothing but a glass of water & a wine. The only vegetable they had was green beans, and they refused to even steam those without oil. In today's world, accommodating a basic dietary restriction with something as simple as potatoes and vegetables should not be impossible. 1st of all they were going to sit us outside at a table for 4, when we had 7 in our party. They were going to add three chairs. Then we went inside instead. I ordered the crab legs, it was good, but for $40? You didn't get any side dishes or bread. My friends ordered crab balls (5) appetizer it was $26.00. Apps were a bit costly for what you got. The quantity of the apps were like half portions that you would receive in another restaurant. We had the calamari and the fried oysters which neither were crispy. Just a bit, soggy. The fish and chips were very good. My grandson had chicken fingers. Which tasted fishy so they must have fried the chicken where they fried the fish. For iced tea and soda I was surprised that they only gave you one refill, but it really wasn't a problem. The staff were very nice. We originally want to sit outside. There was six of us and we were told they didn't have accommodations outside for six people at one table. Weird. This was my first time visiting JP's on the Wharf Restaurant. The outside atmosphere is beautiful, filled with plants and a great view of the bay. They offer outdoor seating facing the water, but it was a bit too chilly to sit outside during our visit. Inside is cozy with several tables. They don't take reservations, but our party of six only waited about 10 minutes for a table. Our waitress, Cassidy, was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. We started with the calamari and Yucatan shrimp appetizers, both delicious. For entrées, we ordered the Yellowfin Tuna, Crab Cake, Fish and Chips, CAB Ribeye, and the Tropical Salad with Snow Crab Clusters. My husband loved his crab cake with its crisp golden crust and flavorful crabmeat. My sister-in-law's ribeye was tender and perfectly cooked. My brother-in-law enjoyed his tuna, nicely blackened outside and raw in the middle. My niece said the fish and chips were the best she's had in a long time; crispy, light, and tasty. The beer and wine were good and paired nicely with our meals.The only downside was the water, which had a strange taste. I'd suggest the restaurant offer complimentary bottled water. Went here on a whim on a Sunday for lunch and I've been here before but it's been a little bit! Wow! JPs got a glow up and I'm not sure when. A friend and I shared the tuna wonton nachos and they were so yummy! I got the tropical salad with the mahi on the side and my friend got the garden salad with a crab cake on the side! Everything tasted so fresh and the views were amazing and the weather was perfect. Service was great! The cocktails were yummy. I had the strawberry ranch water and it's a perfect summer drink. What a great find on the Delaware shore! I sat at the bar and received excellent service from the staff. They were clearly excited and sad that the season had come to an end, but were also very eager to help. They provided some great recommendations and suggestions. The food was absolutely delicious and tasted like it was actually "homemade". The crab soup was an amazing starter and is highly recommended! I'm sure this place has a great vibe in the "on-season" but even as their season was coming to a close, this location is hard to beat. We ended up here after driving into Delaware to check off this state. We received alerts that there might be coastal flooding and we did have to cross a slightly flooded parking lot to get into the restaurant. Thankfully the water wasn't very high though. The waiter was great and really nice. The only issue was she forgot our drink orders but quickly got them once we reminded her. We started with the crab stuff balls and they were great especially with the dipping sauce. They were full of crab so you wouldn't be left unsatisfied. The snow crab clusters were also great and simple. They didn't have any extra seasoning to put on them but they honestly didn't need it. I barely needed the butter either. Although the service was great (thank you, Tyler), my chicken Chesapeake was probably the worst sandwich i've ever had. If it had not been my 88-yr old mother's bday, I would have sent it back. The texture of the chicken was rubbery and the crab dip on top tasted strong, like it was a day or two past its prime. My mother loved her soft shell crab sandwich and my husband said the steamed shrimp were ok, though, so it wasn't a total bust. For the price, however, i expected better. read more

Very nice wharf restaurant with excellent seafood. The service was great (my daughter and I went for lunch). The problem I had with this place is that the local dive bar is also under its umbrella. On Friday night (Karaoke Night) , things can get a bit out of hand. We had rented a house very near the locations. The blue language flies, and I was actually afraid that there would be a "bar fight" of violent proportion. There is a large parking lot in front of the restaurant. There are singular cars that hang out and leave their lights on into late night hours. Other cars pull up for several minutes and drive away. Draw your own conclusions. read more

Have driven here a couple of times from Rehoboth Beach just to have lunch with my girlfriend.... I liked it so much that I convinced my lifelong buddies to drive from all over the state to have our monthly lunch there... When we arrived,,, a few were running a few minutes late we were forced to wait 20 minutes because they have this stupid policy about not seating until the entire group had arrived. Then they wouldn't let us push two tables together so we could all sit together... So their resolution was to put us a table that would have had us squeezed to tightly together.... IN MY OPINION.... If you have seven older men (all in our early 70's) that like to drink and eat and spend $$$... Not a good move ... Our average monthly bill is usually between 400 & 600 bucks...with at least 100 - 150 bucks for the server... I reiterate NOT A GOOD MOVE... Remember when good service and taking care of your customers was the most important thing even if you have to bend the rules... read more

I enjoyed the food at JP's. I got the fish and chips and my son ordered the crab balls and bacon wrapped scallops. The crab balls were good. The fish was nice and flaky and moist. The scallops were very tasty. They were plated on a delicious berry jam. We had great service with Kat taking care of us. The ambiance on the water was relaxing and pretty. After dinner we let the hostess know that we wanted ice cream and she met us at the window to serve us. When I'm back in Delaware I'll be sure to visit JP's Wharf for a nice seafood meal. read more

This was the most memorable restaurant experience I've ever had in my life! Not in a wonderful memory moment either! It started as soon as we walked in. Telling us the rules...If you don't have your whole party there they will not seat you. We had friends join us 5 mins later, and the waitress literally said to my friend, "I will not serve you!" They had to sit at another table, and we had room at our table for them. It made no sense, and it didn't stop there. We had teenagers with us as well that sat at the table behind us, and they had to have a different server. The servers were so rude! I will never go back there! We came here for a Saturday lunch in July. We got seated right against the rail on the deck and ordered fried fish and fried oyster sandwiches. The food was fine but the real draw here is the view. You can sit on the deck, enjoy the sunshine, and watch the boats go up and down the river. Do remember that the water and fountain drinks have a sulfuric taste from what I'm assuming is well water so keep that in mind when ordering. We will come back during strawberry season to try the famous strawberry pie. read more

The menu specialized in seafood. 17 year old and I both ordered salads with crab cakes and the crab cakes were delicious. We were still a bit hungry so we ordered some fish dip which was excellent. Can't say enough about the hard working staff that were busting their tails. We were there with a large party of teens and adults. They could not seat us together due to Covid restrictions but worked so hard to seat and serve all of us in a reasonable amount of time. Great place for families and groups! read more
