Went in to find some fly line. Bro at the counter tried to sell me a $185 fly line without disclosing the price. It was ONLY $99 online, which is less than any fly line they sell, even their bottom tier. I've been buying their flies for years, but this just sucks. Not to mention they "couldn't" reup my license in March. Sucks because they're close to my house, but they've really gone sour for me. I don't want to support Amazon over brick-and-mortar, but this is shady. read more

My dad and I did a half day fishing trip with Tyler and Charlie. They were absolutely incredible! My dad and I each caught a fish right around the same time as soon as we got out there, and then about 6-7 more all together. It was a great day! My dry fly cast improved so much and both guys helped me mend the line much better. My dad hasn't fly fished in over 20years and commented on how comfortable the guys made him feel at his experience level. They also showed us a bunch of different bugs in the water, helping me identify which flies to use in the future and how to check the water to see what the fish are eating. They were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. I'm looking forward to the rest of my family coming to visit and do a trip with them as well as more technical lessons/guides for myself in the future! read more

Trystan was our guide for the day. We stopped in the shop the day before so I could buy a hat and such but we decided to go ahead and try on our waders and boots and I'm glad we did so we understood them better. The guys in the shop were super helpful. We met up with Trystan a little over an hour away and it was a beautiful spot with a ton of fish. I've been in a fair amount of fly shops all over the western US and I have to say this is one of my favorites. My gf and I stopped in here last year during a road trip and needed some info on where to fish in Colorado, and what was hatching. There was No "cool guy" vibe and they treated both my girlfriend and I equally (like if she asked a question, they didn't look at me and tell me because I'm the guy) might sound odd but it's pretty prominent in outdoor shops. Headed down the hill to find a fly shop or possibly go to Wally World and pick up an el cheapo. Remembered seeing a fly shop sign from 6th so swung in to see if I could find something affordable. I don't fish at all and my brother is just getting into it, I drove him here to get a new line and some other small stuff. I've dealt with outdoor stores, bicycle shops, RC shops, motorcycle shops, skate shops, 4x4 stores, plant stores, hobby shops etc. Most of these places have a "get out of here new guy," or "quit wasting my time," attitude. My brother and I joked on the way in how bad these Arbor guys were gonna mock him haha. Turns out they complimented his reel, got him setup with what i assume is correct gear (very knowledgeable) and told him to have a good time on the trip! A real "welcome to the club," vibe which I liked. If/when i get into fishing this'll be my first stop no question. read more

Fantastic experience here today. I called ahead to inquire about trying on some waders, and when I arrived Davis had my size out & ready to go. Staff was very welcoming and their new, larger space looked great. The waders were just what I was looking for, but I also needed new boots and wasn't sure which way to go. Davis and store manager Kevin very patiently helped me try on every single boot in the store - each in several sizes. I was there for a couple of hours and they were extremely accommodating the entire time. Very knowledgeable and honest about their products. I will be back for flies, leaders, tippet etc. read more

Tristan is the $hit!!! Very polite, patient, ..... professional. Despite our best efforts to fail at fly fishing he still helped us catch fish!!!! Tristan's calm demeanor, intelligent corrections, and experience beyond years helped us net 10, perform Long Distance Release on another 15 - 20, and only ripped the lip out of one (or maybe two) .... This fly shop is far and away the BEST fly shop I've visited in the state. The owner knows how to do business the way it should be done. Best fly shop in Golden! These guys are polite, helpful, knowledgeable, and were fun to chat with. It's well stocked, complete with shop dogs!!!! I had such a bad experience with the grumpy, patronizing staff at Golden River Sports that I refused to return there despite the shop being within walking distance of where I was staying. Instead I rented a bike from the Golden Bike Library and rode to the Golden Fly Shop--well worth the effort to not be treated as a subhuman because I'm a tourist. Happy fishing. read more

What a great day we had fishing the Platte River with Arbor Anglers! Our guide, Steve, told us his father put a fly rod in his hand when he was six years old and he's been fly fishing ever since. We benefitted from that skill and his clear passion for Colorado fly fishing. Steve taught us some casting techniques, pointed out areas in the water where the fish were and boom, brown trout on the hook! We caught several browns and hooked many more.
