A year later Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear is still our go to for anything archery. We've been coming here pretty consistently for the last year, have taken lessons from Tom, bought our equipment here, met like minded friends and most of all, feeling like we belong. Reasonable prices, on very high end EDC knives. I needed to replace the scales on my best chef's and carving knives. Dan took them and had them renewed with black linen micarta that looked amazing. He completely rebuilt a Puma Skinner and had his leather guy make me a handsome sheath to protect it. I'll trust my knives to RMSG anytime! read more

To me, RMS is the absolute pinnacle of archery pro shops in the Denver area and probably all of Colorado. They have an extensive inventory of both traditional and compound archery, conveniently separated into two halves of the store. Their staff is beyond amazing and will help anyone with any and all questions. They will take the time to coach you even without paying for a formal lesson. They have taken me from an archery beginner to at least a strong intermediate archer since i started going there. They have helped me get my arrows and bows perfectly tuned for me. They do NOT push you towards purchases. They will be honest with you and frequently will even tell me that i do not need to purchase something because i already have something good instead of seizing the opportunity for a sale (looking at you, Colton). The staff is amazing. Tom, Dan, Colton, Nick, Scotty, and all the rest are nothing but respectful, laidback, friendly and honest. My wife and I came in on a Sunday as soon as they opened. We had recently taken up archery but had only been renting equipment until now. We came in ready to purchase pretty much everything a beginner would need to be able to go out and start shooting, but after looking around in the shop for about 15 minutes, no one greeted us or asked if we needed assistance. There seemed to be quite a few individuals there that seemed like they work there, but they were just standing around talking amongst themselves. Sure I could have went and asked someone, but we got the feeling that nobody really cared anyway, so we just left. Tom I appreciate the explanation about Sunday. I thought when I was looking for store hours online, that it indicated you were open on Sunday's from noon to five, but must be my mistake, so my apologies for that. Happy to see that you are doing something nice for the community and for those that have suffered with a personal tragedy. My wife and I came into your shop once before during a weekday and spent easily 20 minutes looking around and again no one asked us if they could assist us, so when it happened again on Sunday, I think you can understand why I felt the way I did. As consumers, we all hate it when the company we purchased a product from tells us to deal directly with the manufacturer when we try to return it. That's what you'll get with Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear. Fair pricing. Fast shipment. But if there's a problem with the item you've ordered, you'll be on your own. I purchased a lightweight Sitka shirt for $200, and less than 30 days later it's already torn. Maybe I snagged a branch while walking, but I don't recall anything out of the ordinary happening. I just wore the darn shirt like anyone else would. I would expect that a $200 shirt would be a bit tougher than this. In fact, I owned this "exact" shirt for many years and never had a problem. Through the mountains of CO, the tundras of AK, and the bush of TX, I never had a problem. But...like an old pair of socks, after years and years of heavy wear, it was time to replace it. The shirt was so worn you could see through it in spots. The new one (same make, model, and color) lasted one week before tearing along a seam. I asked to return it (less than 3 weeks after purchasing it) and I was told to deal with the manufacturer directly. I've spent several years in retail, and in my opinion, they should have replaced the shirt and reached out to Sitka with a warranty claim. This is just one of many reasons consumers are flocking to "The Big Guys" like Amazon, Cabela's, etc. I love supporting small businesses, but I don't want to be told to deal with the manufacturer when there's a problem. You're the one I gave my money to, not the manufacturer. For this reason, I would steer clear of Rocky Mountain Specialty Gear. UPDATE: Decreased my star rating from 2-stars to 1-star. Make sure to read their reply (below) to my honest and non-demeaning review. They are exactly on par with who I thought they were. Avoid Rocky Mountain Speciality Gear! Response from the owner: I politely pointed this male-Karen towards Sitka because Sitka asks their dealers to have customers contact them directly for warranty issues. Not all manufacturers do that, but Sitka does, so we follow their procedures. Even if you blame any and everybody else for what is clearly your own poor choices, we'll still be polite and let you know what your best options are. If you think that you should be able to ask for a refund in this instance, please take your business elsewhere. The same people who think this way are the ones who will try to publicly hurt your livelihood for a problem that can be fixed in 5 minutes with a needle and thread. And there will always be a problem with these people no matter how well you treat them. Life's too short and money isn't that important. For anybody else reading, we are extremely reasonable with return requests. If you had said "I'm a bonehead and I walked through the brush and tore my shirt, is there anything you can do to help?", we will go above and beyond. But if you come dripping with entitlement and blaming other people, politeness is probably all you're going to get. read more

RMS Gear is probably the best trad archery shop in the entire Mountain West -- and from experience, the entire West. These people are also highly trained and knowledgeable about compound bows. They taught me how to shoot a trad bow at the ripe age of 68 years. Using their techniques and instructions I have bow-hunted as well as spending many hours shooting paper and 3D targets. They taught me to love the sport of archery. They are passionate, intelligent, and extraordinarily generous with their time, attention to customers and fairness in pricing. Tom is a wonderful coach and all around great guy. We stopped in just looking to purchase a couple of 20# bows on a Saturday when they were short staffed, and Tom, immediately recognizing that we definitely were not experienced, talked us into a quick lesson first and then got us on the appropriate weighted bows, and let us practice for awhile before purchasing. Just bought my first bow from these guys, but it was so much more than that. Alex and Jerry patiently took the time to talk with me about all the different options, the pros and cons of different types of bows and anything else I had questions about. Before I decided, Jerry gave me an in depth tutorial with tons of tips on how to use a recurve bow out back in the target range. After about an 1.5 hrs I was worked and had confirmed my suspicion that I would fall in love with archery. I left spending much less than I thought I would on my first bow, but know I'll be back for more toys and upgrades in the near future. I decided that I really want to get into traditional archery and went here based on all the great Yelp reviews, it was a complete waste of a trip. No one greeted me when I walked in and you couldn't tell who was an employee and who was a customer so I didn't even know who to ask for help. Everyone who was presumably an employee just say around talking to their regulars while I wandered for about half an hour and finally left. I was prepared to drop a bunch of money for a full set of gear and lessons but I think it would be better spent at a shop that cares for all their customers and not just the regulars. read more

This is an honest, hard working, small business that focuses on customer service. If you are a recurve or longbow archer, there's no where better to go. They have indoor archery range with targets at 10 and 20 yards. My only caution is that the range can get very busy on the weekends. read more

Just ordered a Tab and some gear. Super happy with everything. The order was processed and here in 2day from (Co to Ca). I love that they sell a field point assortment kit with points from 100-300gr. This is great to let you tune arrows without having to buy a ton of points. or just fool around with foc and spine. The used arrows I got were in nice shape and a nice deal. this shop has a focus and may not be all things to all archers but what they have is very good. You will not buy any junk here. They sell one of the most effective and humane broadheads around... the cutthroat. They are Solid, legit, and for real ( both the shop and the broadhead) I can't wait to visit the shop next time I'm in Co. I would buy from them again in a heartbeat. shipping was fair... more or less what it costs (no handling bs) Side note: I hate when a someone bashes a shop when they have limited experience and don't even know a good shop form a bad one. I see that with other kinds sport specialty shops. If you are new to any sport: shooting, diving, hiking...whatever... Find a club or group to do the sport with or take a class. you don't walk into a shoe store and ask how to be a runner.... Archery is really a bunch of sports ( hunting, 3d, target, backyard, stick, Olympic, selfies, compound...). A ton of shops would have just sold Shawn s a cheap take-down kit that was not really great for anything and called it a day. On a roadtrip and a buddy and I came in after a day of archery in Fort Collins. He was hooked and wanted a set up for himself. Sensing we were novices they spent over an hour one -on-one testing bows, arrows, swapping arrow tips, and giving training and technique advice as well as storage, maintenance, and all the other information one would need. My roommate and I were looking at bows for the first time. Once we asked for help, the staff not only helped us pick out bows, but they gave us a beginners lesson on stringing, unstringing, and firing the bow to get us off on the right track. They had us fire to get the right kind of arrows for us, corrected firing posture, and the whole time were effective and clear instructors. This place is a great place to pick up a bow or even do some bow training as it has a whole bow range in the store. I am not much into bows or cross bows so my knowledge on how well things are done in that area are minimal but from what iv seen in store they do an amazing job. I actually come here to get my blades sharpened and I can say with confidence this is the place to go, the guy that does the blade sharpening is a super nice guy who is very informative on the sharpening process and even went out of his way to educate and show me how he does it with my own blade. I was very impressed with the attitude and the confidence as well as the knowledge this man held because its a good feeling when you finally meet one.
