I can't stand a thief. When I am told that the items that were taken would be sold, and I would receive 50% of the sale was great. When items that are taken and in very good shape never show up after the sale I have a problem with the honesty of this place. When I called to inquire about a beautiful rocking chair that never showed on the paperwork I was given, I was told that rocking chairs don't sell so we put it in the dumpster. That is a lie! I had people wanting to buy that chair for years. This is only one example of how this place steals your things and sells them for themselves. Again, I can't stand a thief or a liar. Let me start by saying the selections and prices were really good, so no complaint there. However.... please think twice before asking for delivery. I bought several small furniture items but could not fit them in my car so I asked for delivery and they agreed to a $50 charge and they said give them a day or two. It has now been 10 days and I've called several times. Each time the person promises a new date and time, but 3 times now cancelled on me (always with excuses). DO NOT USE THE DELIVERY SERVICE!!!!! Never know what you'll find here. Auction started around 7, doors opened at 530 or 6, Thursdays only I believe. Grab an auction number at the desk on the right when you walk in. 18% credit card buyers premium, 15% with debit card to be paid at the same desk once you've won an auction. Easy enough. You can leave bids on items before the auction starts and/or wait to bid live in person or by phone. Bring a paper and pad to jot down the lots you want to bid on because it moves fast and not in any order I could discern. If you ask the helpers, they'll move your items into an auction call queue so you don't have to be there till the end. Staff is friendly. All kinds of odds and ends from vintage cookware to furs to coins to furniture. They do auction & consignment. There's the gavel grill with some food options. There's the main room as described above and a side room, to the left, with early bird auctions running concurrently. On a very hot (98 degrees!) drove to CT and attended the July 23rd higher end sale (than the Thursday pm sales), and was very pleased with how the auction was conducted, and how everything went overall. The auctioneer was friendly and informative and he dropped prices when there were no bids. The auction house was well organized, bathrooms were clean, and the items well displayed. For this particular auction, they offered a free lunch from their on site grill and the chicken salad was delicious! They also had brochures printed on high end thick white paper. After the auction ended, there were staff available to help load, and there was a room nearby with boxes and packing material. Really couldn't ask for more from this exceptional auction house! The entire staff are excellent. Situation was almost an entire home clear out, consisting of both valuables (antiques) and junk. Staff gave a few options, in terms of how money would be handled. Staff at time of haul out were kind and beyond thorough. They got everything right - what stayed and what went. Also offered to return for remaining items later. Found a few sentimental items to ask me. Contract to leave home "broom ready" and it was far more than that. It was left in great shape, more than I expected. I interviewed three other services and know I definitely made the correct choice with Golden Gavel. The offer provided me was the best of the four companies I interviewed, and the service and excellent job done - in 90+ degree weather - was terrific. read more

Why am I NOT surprised that the owner would lie again about the actual events! Here's what happened, TRUTHFULLY: I purchased two bracelets thru Liveauctioneers and called GG to pay with MasterCard. The less than intelligent (#STUPID) office clerk added an extra "0" to the transaction amount and attempted to charge my card for over $8,000 instead of $800, the actual amount of the two bracelets! This triggered my CC's fraud division, the transaction was declined and my account frozen over the weekend! The following day, I called the owner, Patrick, who was nonchalant and less than apologetic. He couldn't understand why I was so upset and asked "if this was the worst thing that has ever happened to me"! After much heated discussion, he told me his bookkeeper would call on Monday to attempt to process a different card (btw, there was nothing wrong with the first card, just that it was overcharged by $7,500, duh). But before I could speak to the bookkeeper on Monday morning, a DISPUTE was filed for NON-PAYMENT! Really? Needless to say, I was furious! But because this incident would adversely affect my business and MY professional reputation, I reluctantly decided to settle my account with Golden Gavel. I didn't want to further tarnish my heretofore flawless record and hoped that after receiving payment Golden Gavel would close the dispute, send me my items and go very far away. The ultimate disrespect came when Patrick/Golden Gavel, REFUSED to accept my payment, stating that the bracelets were "no longer available for sale" and chose to instead keep the NON-PAYMENT dispute open, thereby tarnishing my impeccable record, thereby intentionally hindering my ability to bid with other auction houses! I would steer clear of this crass, money grubbing, immoral firm. With such low character and disregard for decency, I'm certain Golden Gavel is doomed for eventual failure. read more

We hired Golden Gavel after my mother's death to clear out her house and sell her belongings at auction. The cleanout process was quick, thorough and efficient, although expensive. ($1725) The auction process was not as satisfactory. Golden Gavel auctioned the items over a period of about a month. Half of the sale proceeds were paid to the estate (us) and the other half went to Golden Gavel. We did not receive an itemized list of all of the items, nor did we expect one considering there were many things we knew would end up in "box lots", meaning sold in bulk. But so many items seemed to just disappear. And no box lots were shown in the final accounting. Some vintage Halloween decorations that the auctioneer told us were very collectible and would sell well were nowhere to be found. Things like vintage illuminated bar signs, a 60 year collection of Christmas items, electronics, a surveyors transit, decorative items, wall decor, were just not mentioned. We feel that although the cleanout process was satisfactory, the auction process was not. Golden Gavel did not take care with my mother's belongings, and I believe too many things are sitting in a landfill. read more

purchased depression candlesticks by leaving a bid, was notified I won them & paid for them immediately. Asked if they could ship them and they referred me to a shipper they use. Called their shipper several times to arrange shipping. they said they would get back to me. Called Golden Gavel to see if the candlesticks were picked up, no one can tell me. I've dealt with both Patrick and Ralph for the past 15 years now. Ive bought a plethora of good things from them over the years as well as have had very good dealings when selling stuff through them. I've never really been disappointed and they've always advertise my items perfectly. The ones that were worth advertising. I read another review on someone complaining about their commission rates. Their rates are just as low and just as high as all of the other auctions near here so I'm not so sure with the gentleman was complaining about read more

Called ahead to make sure that an item had no reserve. Was assured that it "did not have a reserve and would be sold tonight." Drove half an hour, waited patiently for the item to come up, and then the auctioneer wouldn't lower the bidding to an amount he'd sold earlier items for. When I offered his lowest bid, after the item closed, noting that I'd called, I was refused. The same auctioneer has done similar things at his Vernon location. Most wood items are described as "mahogany", even when they aren't. read more

First time going to a auction. One of the auctioneers Ralph lombazzo I think teaches a class on picking and selling at Manchester community College. I'm interested I took the class I attended the auction. It was "recommended "more people more bids Duh. I wonder why. Anyways in the class he spent more then one class on glassware but stuff like toys about 5 minutes if that. Coins about 3. I won a box lot at golden gavel. Then in class he makes the remark that box lots are worthless and not worth the money. Extra stuff they are trying to get rid of goes into them. I donated what I won to Salvation Army. Come on. Haven't been back since. Then they partner with another auction company that went out. Jeez these guys are leeches and don't care. Stay away. read more

The auction has nice box lots but the owners should schedule 3 auctions concurrently when there are over 1,000 items! Also the auctions should be scheduled to start at 6, not 7 and/or scheduled so that the auctions are on different nights of the week. This makes the auction go too late! I wanted bid some items but it was 9 PM already and there was over an hour left before the lot came up. I will absentee bid next time. Also the owner is greedy with a 50% consignment fee on lower value items! I am comfortable paying as high as 30% when most houses charge 20% Don't bother consigning unless you have high dollar items. read more
