When in Golden, you have to check this place out! They have a little bit of everything and it is all well-made and unique. The employees have always been very helpful and friendly. I love all of the cool keychains, knickknacks, and hats they have. The store is bright, clean, open, and organized. They have clothing, snacks, board games, keychains, wallets, candy, etc. Even as a local, I love coming in and looking at all of the items they get in! read more

Always thought this was such a cool looking store, but I won't patronize a place whose owners seem to think it's ok to be rude and unkind to children who are just running a little lemonade stand and who would get into an ugly argument with their father right in front of the little kids. Furthermore, as I read through other reviews, I see that their response to negative reviews is to excuse(explain?) themselves rather than to offer any heartfelt apology. A simple "I'm so sorry", while it can be difficult, can heal wounds and hurt feelings. Most business owners know the public relations and monetary value of a true apology, but I haven't seen any sign of that in this instance, so far. So I guess I'll have to find another cute store to support while buying gifts for all my grandkids. What a shame read more

Finally stopped in to check out there puzzles - wow! We live in Golden but had not been i this shop. We presumed it was a t/shirt and visitors gift shop. Wrong! They do have items for visitors but they also have tons of puzzles and an excellent game room - in the back. We bought a puzzle and will be back for more games and puzzles. The staff members present were very helpful and friendly - by phone and when we arrived to shop and buy. Then we went home and got the puzzle started. We finished too! read more

Four stars: selection of merchandise. One star: customer service. I'm not a fan of poor customer service, just read some of my reviews. I compare similar types of businesses to one another. After waiting at the checkout counter for several minutes, a female staff member finally decided to help me. No apology for my wait was offered, just a complacent attitude. I just left this store and am so upset with my experience that I feel inclined to leave this review. I walked in with my service animal and the young lady at the desk asked to see my service papers which I gladly did, and she let us walk around. When we entered the smaller side of the store, a different tall skinny brunette cashier immediately told me I was not allowed to be in the establishment, regardless of my dogs' status as a certified service dog, refused to see her papers because it's a "store rule". Her reason being that there was packaged food nearby. This woman was hostile and rude to me and my friends, and kicked us out of the store. She discriminated against me because my disability is not physically debilitating. If I were blind or physically handicap would I have been kicked out? Probably not. read more

We are visiting our son who lives in Golden and went to Golden Goods to blow up our tubes to go tubing in the Clear Creek, which I highly recommend! We met the owner, Dee, and she was amazing. She helped us get our tubes blow up and went out of her way to make sure we new where to go to have the best experience! Her shop is a definite must stop on your visit to Golden. It's full of local treasures and just fun to wander around. You will certainly find everything you are looking for! Great establishment. A must stop when traveling through Golden! The staff was pretty annoying considering the store is small and you can hear every conversation going on. It's difficult trying to shop and spend money in a store when the workers are openly talking about how they want to get off work already and how miserable they are. It was pretty early in the evening too. We don't have a lot of small toy stores like this in Hawaii so it was nice to spend a few minutes shopping and looking at the mixture of toys, Colorado food items and old vintage food items. We bought some toys, candies and overall it's an adorable store. read more

Absolutely horrible customer service. Up in Golden on a trip from Nebraska, came up and went to the exact same store last year. We loved this store and the wide variety of different gifts and souvenirs they have on selection. A year later, two of my girlfriends brothers went into the store and almost immediately were being yelled at by this younger girl with braids about their same age or younger. They said minors can't be in the store with adult supervision, so they came back out and the whole family went in. This woman with short hair rudely comes up and says "if you're not going to stay with an adult you need to leave." Dad was standing right there. I understand not wanting stuff to be stolen but it's completely ridiculous profiling. We would have spent generous money to help out a small business and instead they drove us away. Next day we decided to give this business a second chance. The same girl with the braids accused the brothers of being high with absolutely zero reason given (they were not) and started stalking them around the store. I don't know if this store is under new management or not but how rude they are to customers not a single one of the *ss holes that work here deserve a job. Sad what happened to a previously great place. read more

This review is more about the store's variety and products, as I had a different and friendlier experience than the first reviewer, but I also did not go in with children. I did, however, go in looking for children's gifts (for a 2yo boy and a 5yo girl) and I ended up so excited about the kind of "brain game" toys they had to offer that I ended up buying something for myself! (Seriously, look up their Sept '14 toy of the month, the "Switch Pitch" - it ended up being a perfect thinking adult's toy, good for tossing around while brainstorming or trying to read some dense stuff.) My dad is a physicist, and he bought me some of the types of Golden Goods' toys as a kid. They got me excited about things like geology and dinosaurs, puzzle solving, building things, and wanting to understand sciencey things like gravity and temperature....and the toys there almost did it for me all over again. You can find things there from sophisticated rubber band guns to "crack your own dinosaur eggs" or "make your own 'crystals'", hypercolor silly putty (who doesn't remember hypercolor t-shirts..!), build-your-own toy cars, "antigravity" space vehicles that can roll up your fridge...you can also find a tasteful variety of plush toys, games, a perfectly less-than-tasteful collection of gag gifts, locally made food items that are perfect for out-of-town gifting, and some really awesome carved home decor. This store is Golden, CO to the core with a small town vibe, a touch of School of Mines mentality, and an over all joie de vivre for what it's like to "discover" things as a kid and even as an adult. I highly recommend a visit, and give yourself time to enjoy it. read more

Overpriced and rude staff. What's the point of a store marketed to children if you have staff that are rude and disrespectful to the child (accompanied by a parent) customers. So many great reviews! Me and my friends were visiting town when we decided to drop by and pick up some games! You know, I was a little worried because there was a one stay, but they we're totally wrong. The staff was kind and funny and nknew the merchandise really well. They even let us try some of the games and played with us. And while we we're there I saw no children running away screaming( then again, there we're no terrifying mothers there either) so I think I'm not the only one. I don't live in golden, so I probably won't be going there again, but if I did- game night would be courtesy of this store!!! read more

Golden Goods is the BEST for all ages. The friendly, helpful staff helped me pick out the game Spot It! which is now a favorite for my whole family. If you can drag yourself away from the candy selection they have so much: stuffed animals, rocks, toys, games, playing cards, shirts, those adorable wooden bears... I wanna be a kid again! Reminds me of the Ben Franklin 5 and dime stores. Super clean and you're guaranteed to find something for every kid, niece & nephew. My favorite place for stocking stuffers too! read more

I live in Baltimore. While taking care of my 6 yr. old grandson, now 8, overnight, I was looking for an activity that we could do together. (I'm not the hiking, biking type grandma.) Jack suggested that we get Legos from "the toy store". He wasn't sure exactly where it was, but Golden isn't big and we found it. He selected a small Star Wars set and we enjoyed putting it together. From time to time I have called Golden Goods and given a small credit for Jack to choose from their selection of Legos. He has enjoyed doing that. But this year, I have struggled with Amazon to find a larger Star Wars kit that would arrive before the family left town. Very frustrated. Then I remembered Golden Goods. They had exactly what I was looking for and even gift-wrapped it. My daughter was able to pick it up last night with no problem. The folks at Golden Goods couldn't be more helpful. They have never let me down. Perhaps, I might have paid a tiny bit more for this item. But, I was going to pay Amazon extra postage for fast delivery, plus I was going to have uncertainty about the actual delivery date. (Many of their Star Wars Lego sets would definitely arrive after Christmas.) Sorry if anyone had a bad experience. My experiences have been nothing but terrific, and they seem to have done a wonderful job when Jack picked out his gift personally. read more

I usually love the town of Golden, all of the small stores, restaurants, and other local businesses that were born in Colorado and produce their products here. I very recently had a bad experience in this store. My family and I love buying their products and we usually have a pretty positive experience. We recently went into the store after a pretty hectic day of walking around Golden to find tubes. So after we saw that this store had tubes we got really excited and practically ran into the store. There were currently two young adults in the store and as we walked in they greeted us. We turned the corner and found tubes, we decided to get two double tube. One of the girls kindly offered to blow up one of the tubes. After she did we were very satisfied and walked down to the river. Half way down the river my daughter and her friend were on the tube and the tube sunk and the girls had to swim past the current and pull the tube out of the river. Pretty angrily we all decided to walk back to the store and ask them to blow it up again. They did and then as soon as we got down to the river it was starting to deflate. Already having a stressful day we decided to go one last time down the river and then leave. The tube sank even further than the first time and my daughter's friend and my son had to drift down the river. After asking if this clearly defected item we purchased to be returned. We called the company and they refused and insisted that we call the manufacturer. I left the tube by the river in a fluster and we left. This store will no longer receive my business or anyone else's in my family. If your going to sell an item at your establishment then the costumer should not be inconvenienced to call the manufacturer on a clearly defective product. read more
