I moved to NYC a few years ago and still drive the 3.5 hours to Shrewsbury at least once a year to get my hair cut and colored by Katie. Her balayage technique makes my hair look amazing and it grows out perfectly so I can usually make it the full year before coming back for my next visit. I had gone through many stylists before Millie, struggling to find someone who could cut my curly hair so that I could style it properly and let it really fall in the right place. She nails the curly cut! When it comes to color Millie really listens to what you want. Even if the results didn't come out as you envisioned she will work at fixing it until you feel comfortable with it/adore it. What makes Millie exceptional is that she never rushes her colors/cuts. Other stylists have broken my base color in the past and she spent HOURS fixing it to make sure it looked like a natural color... she is the only stylist I know with this kind of patience! Whether it's a dye or highlight, you can rest assured it will look natural, (or not natural if you're shooting for something more edgy). Trust me I would know... she has taken me from blonde highlights, to brown, to platinum blonde, to red lol! But what I would like to emphasize most is how Millie has been a wonderful friend to me... my mom and I have become friends with her and her family over the years and they are all so sweet. Millie (and her family) were incredibly supportive during a very difficult time in my life; my cancer diagnosis. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with Leukemia and had to go straight into emergency treatment. Thankfully I'm in remission and end treatment this March! But I remember the doctors telling me I would lose my hair in the hospital and that I wasn't allowed to leave for a month, due to a dangerously weak immune system. That's when my angel Millie came to the rescue. She drove right to Dana, chopped my medium length hair into a stunning pixie, and carefully rubber banded twenty 3 inch strands of hair for me to send off to a woman in Florida, who made a wig out of my hair. Millie didn't charge me a cent, left me with some styling tools and creams, and of course hugs. Unfortunately, a good friend of my mother's was diagnosed with Leukemia as well. Millie again came to the rescue and cut her hair for the wig privately at the salon, for free. I will never forget the kindness Millie showed me. Because of her, I was able to feel beautiful in the midst of such pain and loss.

My hair feels so gross right now! It was clear that the stylist did not know how to deal with curly hair as she was unable to even dry my hair. To further explain - I went in as a walk-in on a Thursday afternoon to inquire about same or next day appointment availability. There was one person working who said she could take me right away. After washing she parted my hair in the middle and cut my hair straight across. No cleaning up the ends, no smoothing or texturizing - just a straight blunt cut across. I was in the chair for one minute. She then asked if there was anything else she could help with? It was really odd. I did opt to have my hair blow dried. When I went to check out, I was charged 3x what the prices posted on the wall were. I questioned it, and she confirmed it was correct. My hair frizzed up within 5 minutes of leaving the salon, so I don't think it was dried completely. The way my hair was cut was literally what I did to trim my split ends myself during the start of the Covid pandemic when salons were not open. This was not a professional cut. Meanwhile, I have shared this story with with friends, including a couple who work in the industry, who were all appalled at what I paid. I tried calling and following up to express my concern a few weeks later and my call was never returned. I think this place was empty for a reason. There seem to be positive reviews from a couple years ago. Something has definitely changed based on my experience.
