I'm a blonde and am particular about shades. I explained to Jackie that I'd had some not so great experiences with salons where I used to live. The best haircut I have had in years!! Jaclene worked her magic. She said she specializes in short hair. I showed her a picture and my haircut came out EXACTLY like the picture! Finally found someone who can do that and listens when I ask for little tweaks. And, it is so well cut that it is easy for me to style at home. Jackie is the absolute best. A sweet person, great conversationalist, and one (now two) of the best haircuts I've ever had in my life. I'm a bit of a hippie - I get a haircut when I have a reason to...not every six weeks or whatever. This hasn't fazed Jackie either time I've been there, even though it's probably more work for her. In fact when I was looking for inspo looks last night, I realized the best was the photo of the last haircut she gave me a year ago! In which she asked what I wanted, considered how I could best achieve that given my style-at-home habits (nonexistent, btw) and made me feel comfortable and confident deferring to her expert opinion. I also appreciate how she doesn't try to sell me on products. She suggests, but I genuinely believe it comes from a good place - example, I told her I was into all-natural stuff, like my botched coconut oil experiment, and she didn't poo-poo it. I asked her for some guidance on products and she showed me some of the natural lines the salon carries but it was no pressure, she genuinely wanted to help. I swear if I ever get recommended a Japanese hair gloss again for my already fine hair I'm swearing off hair salons forever...luckily I won't have to because Jackie would never do that! Restoring my faith in salons lol Allure is so affordable too...$44 for a wash, cut, and style (*tip your stylist). I'm not an expert but I'm pretty sure you can't beat that! Curly hair girls beware... First off, the staff and the salon are LOVELY. Tianna did my hair and I had a wonderful time with her. We talked through how I typically style my hair and what I wanted leaving me feeling extremely confident. I typically cut my own hair after being burned many times in the past but came on a recommendation. First off, she cut my hair wet. I misunderstood what she said and thought we were going to wash, style, and then cut which was why I didn't say anything so I was somewhat confused from the beginning but was trying to trust the process. Long story short, the back of my hair looks wonderful but the front literally looks like someone added a second layer by using the bowl cut method once dry. I don't think she understood how much the front section of my hair was going to recoil once dry. I went home and restyled my hair but the only way I'll be able to wear my hair until it regrows is either up or with part of it pinned back. Safe to say there have been many tears and I honestly don't know what to do with the amount of events I have coming up. read more

I use Nicole for haircuts and I bring my three teen daughters as well. My first experience with Nicole was after my oldest daughter's hair had been destroyed with a bad dye job by another salon. Nicole was recommended to me by many other people as someone who could help to fix her hair. Nicole saved the day and helped to get us on the road to repairing her damaged hair and my daughter was able to start high school without having her hair look terrible. Since that first visit, we have all been going to Allure and Nicole specifically for all our hair needs. She is nice, fun, professional and is a fantastic stylist. Just returned from a partial foil, cut, and blow dry at Allure Hair Spa by Jocelyn. I called at 9:45AM and was able to get a 10:30AM appointment, which was fantastic! Jocelyn met me at the front desk and took me to her station; the salon is small and clean with a welcoming, updated feel. Jocelyn went through my hair, asked about my hair coloring history, and asked what I'd like to do - we settled on highlights and lowlights (which is what I have done with my previous colorist). She offered coffee, water, and a magazine and then went and mixed my colors. We made small talk while she did my foils and she was very friendly. She was generous with the foils and I mean that in the best way -- I have long, thick hair and she did not skimp. I read a magazine while I processed. The shampoo was good - water was the perfect temperature and the products were good, although the conditioner smelled like airport bathroom handsoap. While she shampooed, she asked what I'd like to do with my cut. I have one-length hair and I shy away from change but I knew I wanted something a little fresh. She asked about layers and I agreed and asked her to keep them long and to also keep most of the length in my hair. Back at the station she did exactly what I had asked for. The cut was quick but thorough. The blowout was great -- like I said, I have long thick hair. She went section by section with a paddle brush and a round ceramic brush and styled my new cut beautifully. She then put a dehumidifier gloss spray in it and sent me on my way! The whole thing took about 2.5 hours but she never rushed or made me feel as though I was taking up too much time. At the desk, what was listed as a $70 partial foil with cut and blowdry ended up costing $80 but I assume this was the two highlight colors or the thickness/length of my hair -- I often get double charged at other salons due to the amount of hair, so $10 was not a problem. I bought the dehumidifier spray ($17) because it was such a great product. I highly recommend Jocelyn -- she's sweet, professional, and talented! The Universe aligned and told me I had to switch stylists to go to Allure. My kids were longtime clients at JC Penney with a stylist that we loved who was leaving. She suggested that we try Allure because her friend and former colleague (Sharon) had started working there. On the same day, a friend of mine showed up with a dramatic cut and color. And the conversation went like this, "Looks so good on you! Where did you get your hair done?" "Allure! So happy there." I also had been mulling a break from my stylist for a long time, but you know how that goes... As my hair got oranger and oranger and started to look more and more damaged, I knew that the time had come. So I canceled my next appointment with my stylist and booked 3 appointments at Allure - two for the kids and one for me. Now, my kiddos are happy - because it's a real salon experience and they get treated well and get honest-to-god haircuts that don't look like bargain cuts. But as for me, I'm in heaven. In my first trip, Sharon spent a huge (no - HUGE) amount of time with me to figure out why my hair was so off-color. And corrected it. In ONE visit. Like, corrected it so well that six months later I'm still learning that I can space out my color appointments because I have far less color-fade and it's almost a perfect match to my natural shade. Spacing out my appointments also means that I am saving a few bucks - a nice bonus - but more importantly, my hair looks healthier because it gets processed less frequently. About Sharon.... she's lovely. Talented. Quiet. Pleasant. Just my speed. If your hour or so at the salon is a quiet spot in your day and you just want to enjoy some time to check a few emails, drink your coffee and read a magazine - Sharon's your girl! Timid? I'd say no. When I'm chatty, she is too. I find her to be an expert colorist with a respect that not every client wants to 'whoop it up' while in her chair. My ego will keep me coming back. I was really disappointed by this place. I made an appointment based on the great yelp reviews and I am sorry I did. The salon is very average looking and needs some decorating, though I could live with that. The stylist I had missed a chunk of hair in the front when blowdrying and did an all over lack luster job with the styling. I had to fix it up the cut job the best I could when I got home. Many of the techniques I have seen other stylist use that I know make for a better cut where nowhere to be found. I left with a really frizzy and all around bad blowdry style, and a bad cut. They were very nice there and it was a resonable price, but I will not be returning. I wish there had been a review to warn me before I went. read more

So i am new to Northborough and only have had one hair dresser in my lifetime, but i am no where close to her anymore and needed someone nearby. So I went here on a Tuesday and my hair stylist name was Nicole. I showed her a photo of what i wanted exactly- and pointed out how short i wanted my hair cut. (my hair was shortened by about 9 inches and i had only cut it once in my lifetime besides trimmings here and there.) Now i was going to shorten my hair to a little bit lower then shoulder length and she knew that's what i wanted. However, before the appointment i called to set up, i asked her "how much will it be for a hair cut with layers?" and she said "$21" so i asked her if that was the total with everything and she said yes. So i had assumed that- that was what my total would be. After she cut my hair WAY SHORTER THEN WHAT I ASKED FOR i go to the service desk to pay for my hair cut and the lady told me the total was $41 so i asked why it was so much if I called in and asked for the COMPLETE total of just getting my hair CUT with no dyes, no complications, and my hair was not raggedy in any kind of way. She then told me "dial and shampoo" added that to my total. $20 extra fucking dollars for maybe a drop of shampoo and whatever the fuck dial is?????? You have got to be insane. However i did not tip the lady- considering she cut my hair way shorter then what i wanted, and for the hidden $20 extra cost. That was very unacceptable and they have therefore lost a potential customer. Very poor communication skills as well. read more

Based on the reviews on Yelp, i wanted to try this place out. I called on a Thursday and got an appt for Saturday with Jocelyn. Salon was sort of hard to find with the busy intersection in Northborough but I found it. I was greeted when i walked in and went into the waiting area. It was a little strange because I could hear an entire conversation from one of the stylists to her client while in the waiting area. I wonder if that could be changed - i was secretly hoping to not get that stylist for fear of people hearing my conversations. Anyways, I was greeted by Jocelyn who escorted me to the back of the salon, much more privacy, thankfully!! She was very nice and gave a very good consultation. We decided to just do an inch off, and keep one length. The cut was perfect. I got her opinion about coloring as i had been thinking about it for awhile. She gave some good advice and i will probably go back to her for color. The cut was only $30! I was royally impressed. I will definitely go back! read more

I went to Allure Hair Spa to get a color and cut. The color (a full foil) came out great, very happy with that. The cut and style however brought this review from 5 stars to 2 (2 being generous). I'll skip right over the color to the cut. I had hair down to the middle of my back and wanted to cut about 5 inches off, which is a scary thought to most people with long hair. I have extremely thick hair so I usually get it thinned out taking the bulk out and put lots of layers in. I asked for lots of layers and got the shortest layer only an inch from the bottom. Not what I was expecting, but still being optimistic didn't say anything. Now here's when the worst part came. My stylist RIPPED through my hair with a round brush! Anybody with thick, curly hair knows better! Never mind just having it colored which snarls even worse. I assumed after the first couple snarls she'd brush it out with a comb, but no! I could hear my hair ripping but at that point she had another client waiting and didn't seem to care about the end product of my hair. I even had to go home right after just to brush it out because she left snarls in it! Now I am left with damaged, bulky hair, needless to say I am calling to make another cut appointment at another salon tomorrow. All in all, if you have easily manageable hair have at it, but if you're hair is more difficult than average I'd advise going elsewhere for a cut. However, I will say again the color came out beautiful and the prices are great. read more

I have been coming to Allure since they opened. Ginger used to work at another salon that went out of business and that owner used to cut my hair. So I tried Ginger over at Allure and have been very satisfied since. I am a man with very flat hair so it's difficult to cut it right. Ginger always gets it right whether or not I want it a little longer in the winter, or a little shorter in the summer. I read many reviews on Yelp and see that the negative reviews are very old and come from people who live 30-45 minutes away. So WHY are the coming all the way to Northborough to get their hair done? If you haven't tried Allure in awhile, they definitely have their act together. Whether it's Jocelyn, Nicole, or Ginger. You'll be very pleased otherwise the place wouldn't be as busy as it is!! read more

She too had Olivia and came home telling me how right I was regarding how sweet she is. Now, all three of my daughters go to Olivia, that tells you something! Not only does she do a phenomenal job, she had the biggest heart. I always feel welcomed and not gossiped about. Just love the mature atmosphere. Everyone I met there are soooo nice. I have just been going to Allure for over 6 months, but have had the experience of Sharon coloring and cutting my hair for over 4 years. Sharon keeps current on color processes and has actually spent time when she is not doing my hair, thinking of color changes that could possibly be more flattering for my skin color. That to me is an excellent indicator of a great stylist and colorist. I have been to several hair salons over the last 30 years, and Sharon consistently colors and cuts my hair as one of the best colorists that have worked on my hair. I went in for a highlight (AKA foil). Though the color is good, she missed about 4 inches from the roots to where the old color from my previous hairstylist left off. She did not come close to the roots which at 44 show a bit of gray. No wonder the price is so cheap; she spent hardly any time foiling. She missed all of the hairline and all of the crown. When I pull my hair back you can see that she started the foil two inches away from the hairline. I cannot recommend her for the foil. I went back to get the cut redone as well as she did not cut it enough. The second time was better. My hair looks awful and so do my 44 year old grays. On a positive note it is a friendly and clean atmosphere and you can grab a cup of Keurig while you are waiting or getting a foil. I summer in another state and found a wonderful stylist there who was foils at the hairline and at the roots. Driving 2 1/2 hours to get my hair done is something I may have to consider. read more

If I could give this place a 0, I would. I always drive by this salon because I live in Shrewsbury. I decided to give this place a try. I scheduled an appointment for a Thursday afternoon. When I walked in, there were two girls talking at the desk and they stared at me as I sat down. I did not get a greeting from either of them. Lucky for me, one of those girls cut my hair. She seemed miserable and hateful and did not try to make any conversation with me. I asked for a trim all around, layers, and a side bang, so it's a pretty standard haircut. She completely messed up my hair!!! One side of my hair was about an inch longer than the other and she cut chunks into my hair for layers. I would never go back to this place and I advised no one else to go. Please go somewhere else if you want a good haircut.! read more

The prices are reasonable and the staff are friendly. Jocelyn has cut and colored my hair and I have received a ton of compliments from friends on her work. It is on the small side, a bit hard to find and the decor isn't all that great. Salon was clean and attractive. I went bc of the Goldwell products they carry. Was very disappointed in the result. My hairdresser (Shannon? Sharon?) had a real opportunity to gain a new client, instead she was timid, had no idea how to properly use color, gave me a mediocre haircut and only after asking me how to cut my thick curly hair (ie. "Do others layer it like this?" Isn't that something you're trained to understand how to do? ). The color was the worst part. Goldwell is a fantastic product, but I had 3 inches worth of gray to cover up. She used a dark tone but didn't pull it through, so I look like I have a dark brown helmet that fades to lighter shades of brown and red due to natural fading over time. She didn't even consider the color of the ends of my hair when choosing the root color. I'm so disappointed. I won't go back. read more

In addition to the foil, she even fixed a bad color job from last year that I was trying to grow out.
