What is the name of the master that studied under Cheng Man Cheng? .... So, Brad, Martin & Bob studied w/CMC & Ben Lo then? I study w/Wolfe Lowenthal's group, Long River Tai Chi, and his master students.

I consider a Master at the level of Ben Lo. William CC Chen, TT Liang, Dr Tao et al. No one in the lineage including themselves called themselves Shifu, not even Bob Amacker or Martin inn

INSTRUCTORS: The instructors here are top shelf. They are patient, friendly, knowledgeable and clearly invested in the material they teach. They are just as adept at teaching young kids, who may not have the longest attention spans, as they are at teaching adults, who may not be able to bend and stretch as well as they once did. They are able to get everyone to dig deep inside themselves and give their all. If you make the effort, they will too. They don't ever embarrass, haze or belittle anyone. Their attitudes are constantly positive and confidence-building. CURRICULA: The Taekwondo is easily approachable and within reach to the newest white belt all the way to the advanced belts. I really appreciate that this isn't just a black belt mill; you are expected to demonstrate proficiency before you can advance to the next level. Belt stripes and belts aren't just given, they're earned. But that said, the instructors will work with you, and the material is presented in a way that kids and adults can understand and effectively apply. The Hoshinsul is just getting off the ground, and so far I'm really happy with the program. If you have a background in the military or law enforcement, some of the Hoshinsul curriculum may look familiar. Safety is clearly a top priority; new students are taught to crawl (and fall) before they can walk. Since the program is new, I can see that the instructors are still laying the foundation that we'll build off of in future classes. Either way, whether in Taekwondo or Hoshinsul, you're going to get a solid workout in addition to learning a martial art. My wife has been doing this program for a while, too, and has lost weight, improved her cardio, and increased her strength. In addition to the martial arts classes, they do a Parents Night Out one Saturday a month, which my kid loves, and my wife and I appreciate. There are also tournaments with other schools, and all skill levels are able to show what they know and have an opportunity to win medals. They also offer seminars and clinics on some Saturdays to help build some of the more challenging skills. And it's all really fun. COMMUNITY: The overall frequency of this place is overwhelmingly positive. The instructors are friendly, and the other students and parents are encouraging and welcoming. The school emphasizes respect, responsibility, integrity, and teamwork. My family has been coming here for a year now, and the increase in everyone's self confidence and overall feeling of wellness is outstanding. If you're looking to get into martial arts, this school is welcoming, friendly, not-at-all intimidating, and the place to go. FACILITY: You can see that this martial arts academy has a healthy following by the difficulty in finding a parking space on busy nights. That's the only somewhat negative thing I have to say about UMAA. And it gets a little crowded inside during the busy classes. But don't let that keep you away.

After more than four years as loyal paying customers, this has left us absolutely heartbroken. Our 8-year-old son, who once looked up to this coach as a role model, has been left devastated. He has cried at home, cried at school, and asked us questions no child should have to ask about someone they trusted. The emotional damage this has caused our family is beyond words. To make matters worse, the head coach has refused to take any accountability for his behavior. Instead, the co-owner who did nothing wrong, sent us a half-hearted apology on his behalf. That is not accountability. That is avoidance. We feel betrayed, disrespected, and deeply saddened that a place we once trusted for growth and discipline for our child has turned into a source of pain and disappointment. Parents, please think twice before trusting this gym with your children. The leadership here has shown they do not take responsibility for their actions--or the harm they cause to families like ours.

Not only is Northern Shou Shu the most comprehensive and effective martial art around, every single person there treats you like family. The studio has seen me through recovery from a triple fusion in my cervical (neck) area, never pushing me beyond the point of safety. I never have to hide who I am or what I'm going through when I walk through those doors. The people who I now refer to as my brothers and sisters have helped me immensely...like the times I lost both of my parents. When I didn't know what to do with myself during intense grieving periods, I went into the studio. They helped me channel my grief into my art and it was a place of great refuge, healing and amazing productivity. There were times when I had tears in my eyes, but nobody made me feel weird about it, they are all Uber accepting and empathetic - not to mention incredibly skilled. I recently earned my brown belt and now my eyes are pointed toward my black belt. I have every faith that under the patient, skilled guidance and rock-solid leadership at Red Dragon Martial Arts my instructors will take me there! I've had job offers in different parts of the country and not taken them because there's no way I'm leaving the school and it's awesome team! If you and your family are looking for a place where there are great people and a magnificent martial art, you really should look no further. But if you do sample other studios, you will learn for yourself... Red Dragon is the best around!

The coaches--Jordon, Pren, and Billy--are extremely knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely invested in helping everyone improve. Whether they're teaching energetic kids or grown adults who occasionally zone out, they always take the time to make sure everyone learns in a positive environment. One thing that really sets this gym apart is the sense of community. They regularly host BBQs on holidays and special occasions, and anyone who comes by for Friday night open mat is always welcome. I've honestly never trained at a gym that makes sure everyone gets fed after practice, but these guys never let us leave hungry. They also go the extra mile to make the gym comfortable, especially during the summer, with air conditioning and plenty of fans to keep the airflow going. I truly feel blessed to be part of this growing team and family. It's more than just a place to train--it's a community that genuinely cares about its members.

They all have different styles and are really patient. They explain the details behind every technique, and they never make anyone feel like being a beginner or not understanding something is a burden. I've been training for a pretty long time now, so it is refreshing to be around coaches who genuinely love the art and love sharing it without ego. This place is a whole family vibe. Having the option of a women's program is really nice too. Coach Katie is a seasoned brown belt competitor, and you can see it right away. Our 14-year-old and 10-year-old daughters both train, and watching them grow so quickly in the kids' program has been one of the coolest things to see as a dad. My 14-year-old will even come train with the adults too, which says a lot compared to some of the other gyms we've been to. We also bring our 3-year-old son, and the gym has this gated kids' area that is pretty legit. He's always having his own little party and is chillin while the rest of us are on the mats. It's a small thing, but it makes a huge difference for families with little ones who aren't quite ready to train yet. The talent and the culture here are authentic, which is really important to me. It feels like family, and for us, it is. If you're looking for a place to train, take an intro class. You'll see what I mean.
