Love this place. I have found so many great CDs here!!! Great prices in a well organized store. Store is clean and bright. CDs are organized by genre etc. Staff is friendly and even asked if I needed help finding anything last visit and the team member was able to help me find my CD in less than 10 seconds! All CDs I have bought here look practically brand new with no scratches all at a good price which is awesome. Love the location with a free parking lot, close to the bus lines, and right next to Dick's Burgers. I like to stop here after grabbing some food from Dick's and sipping on my chocolate shake while I sift through everything. I recommend and I will definitely return! read more

The last time I had set foot at Golden Oldies was after selling a lot of my 45s in the late 1980s. I really regretted doing that decades later. Hopefully the music brought someone else joy. It was a nice spontaneous visit on 1/22/24 with The Homie. It's helpful that they have their own adjacent parking lot. And to get your bearings, easy access westward from I-5 near Dick's in Seattle's Wallingford neighborhood. Again, love indie music retail shops where it's always an adventure to see what can be found. Friendly guy behind the counter. Really knew his inventory as various people came in looking for something in particular. There's vinyl, cassettes, CDs...a huge variety of media formats. We ended up with a variety of vinyl, cassettes, 78s, and I was especially happy to find a Tourists album. This was during Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart's pre-Eurythmics time. I collect mainly used jazz records from the 50-70's. This store has a huge jazz section, but the quality of the selection id say is underwhelming. I did find two albums though. I would definitely stop by again. read more

I'm visiting family up the street and decided to stop in. I was very impressed with the overall amount of records, and the quality across the board. This is not a place to come dumpster diving, this is a great place to spend a day searching through gems. The staff and other customers were friendly, and helping each other. Also, I've never seen a store with this many older records this well organized. Kudos to the staff for maintaining one of the most easy-to-search stores I've been to in a while. And the best part-FREE PARKING... which I did not think existed in Seattle. read more

Golden Oldies is the kind of store I might like more, if I were a local and could go back multiple times searching for oddball and cool records. Maybe I'd sort of get the "lay of the land", if I had the time. But it's not really the place for someone visiting form out of town, with limited time, even a 45 hound like me. Seriously, some of the 45s looked as though they'd been sitting in the bins for decades, all with those goofy price codes stuck on. A cursory check seemed to indicate that stuff was priced rather highly too. Someone from staff needs to do a big cull on the 45s, with multiple copies of some common titles in the bins and countless "golden oldies" (no pun intended) style reissues that could probably disappear altogether and not be missed. I'm sure there was some good stuff among the stale leftovers but I'll be darned if I could spot any of it in the hour or so I was there. Some of the albums I looked at were semi-interesting but condition ran the gamut. With so many good record stores in Seattle, this one would be low on my list of priorities, if I ever visit town again. read more

This was my favorite record store in Seattle, going back to 1977. when mom took me there to sell some old records. Back then, it was a pretty small store, mostly 45's, only a few albums, but they grew, and within a few years, they had a large lp section - the best in the Northwest. They were the place to go for the hard to find albums and singles. And unlike the other record stores on the Ave, I could shop there without having hardcore punk music blasting in my ears. Sad to see them go, but Father Time finally caught up with the building. Can't get Winchells Donuts next door, either - but the darn sign is still up there! read more

It's musty, it's dusty, the listening station is a bit rusty but I love it! This is a great record store if you are into 45's. The vibe is strictly low-fi here and there is no glitz or hipster attitude which is refreshing. Keep in mind that you are buying your vinyl records from someone who was there when they came out. It's a great spot for digging and they have a little bit of everything. They are not afraid to stock EZ or Country not that I'm into that (LOL) but if you are you can surely find it here. The prices can sometimes be a little high but what record store could survive by giving things away? Those days and stores are long gone. This place is practically an institution. The owner used to have stores in Bellevue, Everett and even in Renton. Now it's down to one, the original. Worth checking out when you are in Wallingford. There is a Dick's drive-in next store so if you are hungry, you can get freshly cut french-fries and a milkshake to go. Happy digging. read more

This store has very high quality albums that I'm sure collectors are after (first printings, posters included, etc.). The prices range between $6 -$20 with $12 probably being the average. If quality and collectable items are your thing you will love it here. Unfortunately, there are very few bargains. I was looking for some of the classic, mass produced stuff (Cat Stevens, Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, Rod Stewart, Santana) that most record stores are overflowing with and getting rid of at $3 prices because they have too many of the same thing. And I didn't really care about the condition/collection/year/rarity (as long as it played). I had no luck here. The selection was great, and all of those artists were in stock, but the prices were a bit more than I wanted to spend because all the albums were specialty items in some way. It feels odd to complain about a selection of records that is TOO quality but a little variation in quality and price would be nice. It's the same reason I go to the used book store. I just want the contents for cheap - not a spotless cover. read more

This gem is slowly becoming the last of a dying breed in Seattle. Dude has a ton of inventory and I'm never disappointed when I walk in; make sure to check out the Northwest LPs section. Golden Oldies is a dump, but it's a wonderful dump, and nicely detached from the hip and ironic air of a lot of vinyl stores in Seattle. The carpets look like they haven't been vacuumed in two decades, the 70s rock posters that line the walls are faded and torn, and a lot of the stacks look like they're about to fall over. But like an old teddy bear that is falling to pieces, it's made all the more adorable because of its flaws. But atmosphere (or lack thereof) alone, Golden Oldies does what every vinyl store should do: sell records in good condition at a reasonable price. I also like the fact that they have boxes full of cheap classical records under the table, which is a nearly impossible genre to find in vinyl stores. And for all its insanely cluttered appearance, it's actually pretty well organized. read more

If you are like me, and enjoy not paying an exorbitant price for a used LP, and are willing to accept a few scratches and faded cover art this is not the place for you. After living in Seattle for 10+ years I finally decided to hit this place up. I've driven past it a million times and heard on/off things about the store being mediocre but I finally wanted to find out for myself. I finally made my first visit and I was definitely not let down, in fact I was down right impressed. I've been in records stores that have been around for 40+ years and it's usually a depressing scene of tattered records that have been sitting in bins as long as the store has been open with only moths where any good records should be. It was by far the opposite with my experience at Golden Oldies. I did a quick tour of the place and looked in a few of the bins and could tell they do a good job of keeping the stock rotating. A big plus was also the organization of the place. Everything was neatly in bins (again those stores that have been around forever tend to have stacks of unorganized junk rather than neat, clean and orderly bins) and the bins were sorted to a finer level of granularity than just A, B, C...you get the picture. Looking under the bins were also boxes and boxes of records; also neatly sorted and organized making them easy to look though. Genre's spanned what you would like to find at a record store and more. I have odd tastes from 20's hot jazz to classical to odd-ball foreign records and I quickly found all of those in Golden Oldies. To be honest, a lot more of the stuff than I've seen elsewhere in this city which was a bit overwhelming at first. As far as prices go, from what I saw the prices were all very good to descent. Not once did I get sticker shock from a record being over-priced. I walked out with a serious stack of records and my wallet was not feeling depressed from the final bill. The owner was nice and friendly, no pressure and keeping the atmosphere quite relaxed. If you're in the area and you like to dig, I would recommend Golden Oldies; heck, I would even recommend it as a destination if you're a serious collector as it's well worth the trip IMO. read more

Excellent used selection, great atmosphere. Unlike some record stores (cough cough Zion's gate) who shove the newest and most expensive records in your face and make the older used records very very hard to find, golden oldies makes a namesake point to display great oldies at great prices. I found a few Sinatra and a duke Ellington in the .99 cent bin. Will certainly be coming back. read more

Years ago when you could no longer find replacement needles anywhere I threw out my turntable and sold my collection of 45's. Now that turntables have made a small niche comeback I'm devastated. It's my party and I'll cry if I want to. The vinyl collection in this store is awesome and the 99 cent CD's are always worth a browse. I always find something I forgot I needed to listen to. They have some current music but I'd give anything for a 45 of Petula Clark singing 'Downtown'. Thanks to cable TV even my kids are familiar with the oldies and every decade from the 50's on is well covered. Truly fun place for an eclectic music lover. read more

This is one of the best record stores I've ever been into. They are a bit on the pricey side. Though I wouldn't agree with the $$$$ rating here on Yelp! I was in Seattle on vacation visiting family and decided to take a day to visit all of the record stores around. I only made it to this one. I spent several hours digging through crate after crate of very well organized records. There are tons of CDs and as many have said tons of 45s. But since I wasn't after either I headed for the LPs that snake their way around the store. Picked up a bit of everything from Thelonious Monk to Nurse With Wound. I ended up with a carry on bag full of records back to Virginia and didn't even visit another store. Wonderful place. read more

I just had my first visit to Golden Oldies last week. I've been living in Seattle for five years and somehow overlooked this gem. The store is not pretty. It's a bit dusty and musty. But good lord, the inventory! The 45s!!! So many 45s!! There is so much treasure in this store and it's neatly organized. Biggest comedy selection I've seen. I had so much fun browsing this store and picked up a couple great finds. I am definitely going back. Owner was extremely friendly and maintained friendliness with a total pain in the neck customer that asked 100 questions. read more

The 2 gentleman who run this place are super friendly and shared their story with me. They started the business 49years ago because one of them had too many records and wanted to make more space in his house. They have so many records to chose from but they are not an establishment that fixes record players. I was informed by the owners about Northwest Audio off of Aurora in Seattle that fixes record players. I would recommend this store to anyone read more

Had high hopes for this but it was a real chore to go through because the store is so crammed, and records are both above and on the floor below bins. It took a lot of work to find two records that justified the rather arbitrary over-pricing, but the guy who owns the place is really nice and I felt guilty that I didn't find more worth buying. This place was cool, but was definitely a store where you've gotta dig. Seemed like the place was just crammed with vinyl, some of it meticulously organized and some more random. A lot of stuff was in dusty beat up sleeves and looked like it had been there for ages. There was nothing bad here and I feel like if you made it part of your regular beat you could definitely have a good score, but there was a fair amount of junk, and I saw a couple shocker prices. Been collecting 45s for 34 years and find this record shop one of the best on the west coast, if you are into first pressing original 45s this is the place for you!, they have a very wide selection, CDs, 331/3 and of course 45s, you could spend hours just looking around, and if they don't have what you are looking for they have a excellent search service to try and find it for you. I've been going here since 1977 when they were at the old store, and I have bought quite a few 45s (OUCH!) But you will not go wrong with this place, I recommend this place if you are a collector. read more
