So I hardly ever give a bad review. That being said, I cannot recommend this restaurant. In fact , I would suggest staying away... far away. The food was bland at best. The beef and broccoli (hard to make it bad) was mushy and tasteless as was the General Tso's Chicken. The chicken teriyaki was tough and dry. I went in for lunch and it was very peaceful inside. The waitress was helpful and brought over hot tea right away. The hot and sour soup was a different style than normal, but it was tasty. I was happy to hear they do all of their general tso's Chicken meals with white meat. I did want white rice instead of fried, but chicken was juicy and filling. Golden Palace was the best Chinese in the area for over 20 years until the original owners retired and sold the place years ago. After that the place went downhill fast. After a few different owners and similar bad experiences I stopped patronizing them years ago. I heard that the new owners were better so I gave them a chance. We went on a Friday night and they weren't very busy. The restaurant is kind of dark and looking tired. The waitress came by and asked if we wanted anything to drink and came back with our drinks and we ordered our meals. I got the General Tso's combination and my friend got Chicken with Vegetables. The food came out and it was okay, better than my last experience there but nothing special. We ended up having to wait awhile for the waitress to bring our check so that left me aggravated. Also while we were there they screwed up two takeout orders so they didn't seem very organized. I'll stick with Cheng Square when I want Chinese food. read more

Very very good! I haven't ordered here in years, after an unpleasant ordering experience but I figured I would give it a shot again and very happy I did. The dumplings are absolutely delicious! Excellent seasoned pork, the dipping sauce is great. The Singapore noodles was a generous portion and not greasy and not too salty which I really enjoyed! I do really like that they use thin wonton noodles for their soup, they seem to be the only place in the area that does. I was surprised that there was no scallions or pork rinds in the wonton soup but I appreciated it that it was a much lighter flavor. Also there was four wontons (every other place I've ordered the standard was always five), not a huge deal as it was very tasty. Most places give you the crispy wontons with soup and this place did not, not sure if it was an oversight but I remember they used to have amazing noodles and homemade hot mustard. Sadly they may not do that anymore, i'll definitely ask next time I order. The egg roll was a little underwhelming, I honestly didn't see any pork in it. If there was it had to be such a minimal amount I could see or taste it. Overall very delicious and definitely will order again. read more

The food was a a wonderful surprise . Lunch was moderarely priced with large servings. I had the red curry chiKen that came with egg drop soup. Both were delicious . The things I received were good but I didn't get any red sauce for the golden fingers. I also received no rice with the general tso's chicken. How very disappointing! I been here inside to eat before and it always comes with rice. I won't be ordering from here anytime soon if they charge higher than a lot of places and the dishes don't come with rice. read more

I usually only ever get takeout from here but every time it's good. My favorite thing to get is the Honey Walnut Shrimp but I really like the Beef & Broccoli too. Eating in I think can be difficult for some because the owner, son often plays and hangs around. I can understand that some people can find that bothersome even if it doesn't bother me. A nice little gem when it comes to vegetarian options. I've been coming here off an on for the past two years and I enjoy coming back. It's usually fairly quiet inside and the restaurant is tucked away a few miles north of I-84. You wouldn't exactly expect to find a vegetarian-friendly place out there. Their tagline is "Chinese, Thai & Vegetarian Cuisine." Although the vegetarian portion of the menu is relatively small, they do say that they can make a request to make "any of your favorite dishes" vegetarian. I also have a takeout menu that seems to have different options than the online and dine-in menus, but they're accommodating all-around. The vegetarian Szechuan chicken or beef are both very good. I like that they're actually kind of spicy, unlike at most other Asian restaurants. The vegetarian BBQ spareribs are also good too, but I wish they either came with some veggies or they were just served as an appetizer. For $8.95, it's a relatively simple dish. The vegetarian sweet and sour pork was OK, but the pieces of mock pork were awfully greasy. Service is very polite and friendly. One time we came here just a half hour before closing, but we didn't feel rushed at all. In fact, that experience was just as inviting as the others. As I mentioned in the earlier review, I like that you get an authentic feel of the culture here. It's just not just ambiance or the decorating, but the food is very well-presented and even the way they fold the carry-out bags is intricate. It's the little things that go a long way. They also have a fairly large drink menu with very reasonable prices. I need to try a few drinks here next time. I recommend Golden Palace and even if you're not vegetarian, give one of their veggie dishes a shot. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised! read more

This was my first time to this restaurant, and my husband's first time in about 15 years. Overall, we were very impressed! We arrived at 12pm, just as the doors opened on a Sunday. There were no lights on inside and no-one around to greet us. Finally someone heard us, and within about 3 minutes we were seated. It did take a while for our orders to be taken (they didn't seem quite ready for us...) but the food was served quickly (along with hot tea, iced water, and pre-lunch snacks). Alas, I was served the incorrect order -- red Thai curry instead of green. Staff were very apologetic and offered to take it back and return with the correct dish, but I didn't want them to go to the hassle (plus, I was starving!), and so I kept it... and it was fantastic! Both of our meals were piping hot, the perfect spice level, and made with very fresh ingredients. We were even brought extra white rice when we asked. The meals were large enough that we took plenty home for the next day. The female staff member was especially lovely, and stopped by our table for a chat on a couple of occasions to make sure everything was okay. The restaurant is very kid-friendly, with the owners' kid roaming around the restaurant with his remote-control car (a bit annoying if you're looking to not be disturbed, but otherwise cute) and lots of play toys around for young'uns. read more

Unlike most restaurants that experience a shift in quality or service, this place is actually a tale of THREE restaurants. Bear with me here, it'll make sence. Back in the 80's and through the 90's and much of the early 2000's, this was literally THE place to get Chinese food. There were always other options, but nothing could compare with either the take out or dine in experience. The same owners had been there the whole time and we actually grew quite close as they watched both our kids start to grow up. Then one day in the mid-2000's......sold.......ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh..... Okay, so new owners can be dicey but we figured the former trained the latter and things would be okay right? No people, no...NOT alright. The food and service experienced an immediate and significant decline. We loved the place so much though, so we gave them multiple chances in the span of the first year, but nothing. I mean if you can't get it right after a year, you're likely to never get it right. So the ban-hammer was swung...with great prejudice. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and we found ourselves craving the mysterious and decadent flavors from behind the Bamboo Curtain and it was time to choose. Honestly we haven't really connected to another place since this place and we kind of jumped between the Buffet across the street and a place in the CVS plaza in Waterbury. (NOT Happy Garden, they are dead to me.) I made an obligatory scan of some recent Yelp reviews and it was positive enough to convince us to give them another shot. Honestly, I have no idea if it's the same owners and they just got it together, or if it's a new owner. Whatever it is, it's back to good! I'm not going to say it's as good as back in the day, but we ordered multiple apps, entrée's and sides for take-out and it would have been REALLY easy to mess at least something up. Not a hitch, price was good, wait was acceptable, service was on point. I can't speak to the dine in experience at this point, but we've ordered a couple more times since and at this point I'm going to call this the best Chinese option in the area. Change my mind. (Side note: Apparently they offer some basic Thai dishes now, and I have not and most likely will not try them. If I want Thai, I'll drive the 2 miles down the road to Thai BowL.) read more

We walked out before ordering. There were maybe four tables filled with diners and all of the rest of the tables were piled with dishes except for one booth. There appeared to be one hostess and one waitress and the hostess took quite awhile to get the empty booth ready for us. When we were finally seated, the built in table at the booth was very close to the bench. Neither of us could sit on that side without the table pressing against us something that must have been an issue for other people. Bad vibes. We left. Her friendly personality is definitely appreciated as well as her mission to go above and beyond. The plates that my family ordered were all delicious as well as the drinks. Ive gone here off and on for years. There are new owners now. I went in on 8/26/2019. I ordered the combination plate - pork fried rice and sweet and sour chicken. I'm not a fussy person, but I have to say the pork fried rice was the worst I have ever had. I say this because the rice was still a tad hard- there was almost no soy sauce in it, I actually still saw many white grains in it - it had zero flavor. It really was bad. The sweet and sour chicken was ok, but whatever oil they used - my stomach immediately blew up and i was extremely gassy. I actually felt sick. They are not inexpensive. Yu Mei (owner) is a sweetheart! Shes works hard and always recognizes my voice with a warm welcome when I call. I'm a vegetarian so I can't speak for your typical chinese food dishes. The items are usually get are shrimp mei fun (spicey) or vegetable pineapple fried rice. With appetizer of vegetable fried dumplings, crab rangoon, or hot and sour soup without the tofu. My orders are always well prepared, plentiful and worth going back for. So as far as the dishes and service I enjoy, I would recommend Golden Palace to everyone! read more
