It's not too often I get to go back and revisit my reviews, but yesterday I think I've had enough change in opinion about ThaiBowL (still can't get over that capital L) that I think an update is an order. This was originally review 148 (149 if you want to count the one review I had that had been deleted) out of all the reviews I've done. Before I get into what changed, I will point to the one thing I stand most by: the Crab Rangoon. This time I had it served to me on a plate, with a separate section for the plum sauce, and this time I had a small pile of shredded carrot and a leaf or two of greens. My opinion about the Crab Rangoon remains the same, which is to say they're outstanding. The plum sauce I've come to learn is the sweetest part of the dish and was a big reason as to how the dish ended up being so sweet. The filling to breading ratio is top-notch, the breading is crispy without feeling like I'm eating mushy bread, and the flavor of the filling is divine. So into what changed. You might have gotten the hint when I talked about the plating of the Crab Rangoon, but I dined in this time, and honestly, it's much better to eat this in the restaurant than to just go to the take-out window. If you have time and are in Watertown, I would definitely recommend parking your car and coming in. It's a cozy interior that's very casual. It's not quite at the level of fine dining, but it is still an intimate place to eat, maybe even romantic. It's very well-decorated, and the employees here are very friendly. Would I say they treat you like family? Ehhhhh..... I don't know about that one, but maybe the next step down it's a little clearer. As for what else I had this time around, please give a warm welcome to the Thai Iced Coffee, the Red Duck Curry with white rice, and the Fried Ice Cream! The Red Curry is spicy, but not unbearably so. The Iced Coffee actually pairs perfectly with this to cool down the heat (I actually had to order 2 of those coffees believe it or not). The duck was crispy and tender at the same time and the vegetables in the curry were for the most part great. My only knock on the dish would be the eggplant. That did come out mushy, but luckily there were only like 2 slices of it, so it wasn't a big deal. You can use the spoon they provide to ladle some of that sauce onto the rice, which actually gives the rice more flavor. As for the Iced Coffee, it was a great coffee and I would definitely have this iced coffee any time I come here and have one of their curries. Does it carry the whole meal on its own? No. But as a drink to help balance things out, it's a winner. As for the fried ice cream, they did phenomenal. You actually have to let the ice cream melt slightly to get into it because the ice cream inside the coating is still cold enough to be hard to cut into with a spoon. But it was a delicious dessert to end things off on. I would like to have this with chocolate ice cream, but that's just a personal preference and not sure how that would work. lol I think now that I've had the full restaurant experience here, I can safely say I was a little harsh giving this a 4 the last time around, and even that was still a good meal. The ambiance, the service, and the fact I got to try more things I ended up liking enough to recommend to others was enough for me to bring this up to the full 5. This will definitely be my Waterbury area option for Thai food going forward. read more

The food was alright, the flavor wasn't as strong like what I'm used to. If you don't like spice, this might be good for you. I would say the best thing were the spring rolls since they tasted fresh and the sauce was flavorful. Service was fast. If you're doing takeout make sure you ask for multiple utensils or else they'll only give you one. The outside was nice and had outdoor seating. read more

We live 12 minutes away so ordered take-out for our visiting family. The restaurant did not include one important item on our order (but did not charge either, i.e. they didn't transmit my full order to the kitchen). Everything was certainly decent, but compared with our long-time favorite Thai restaurant (Bangkok in Danbury, CT), Thai Bowl's offerings were just average. Larb not traditionally wrapped in lettuce leaves. Too much mango and too little sticky rice. Curry very thin with mainly large chunks of green peppers. Great Thai tea, however. I would patronize again, in a pinch, but driving a few miles further to Danbury would be my choice whenever possible. read more

I've been sick and needed some soup. I hate that most restaurants only have one broth soup option, if that so I checked out Thai bowl on DoorDash. Well I hit the soup jackpot! I got the wonton, the vegetable tofu, the Tom kha, and chicken pho; What a treat! I have to say my absolute favorite was the Tom kha. I loved that it was sweet, I don't think it had lime in it but I did get some lime wedges. I didn't think it needed it at all, I really liked it without, it was so soothing! Creamy and dairy free! Coconut milk is packed with nutrients so great for recovering! I asked for no fish sauce so I'm not sure if they typically put fish sauce in it or not, but I like it without. The wonton soup was very good, it was very clean tasting. I'm not sure if the wontons were chicken or pork but they were very light, thin dough. (3 dumplings and veggies in soup). The tofu and vegetable soup smells deliciously garlicy, I haven't eaten that one yet but I tasted it, yummy. My only complaint about the soups is because they are 12 ounce containers you don't get a lot of broth, I'll just ask for extra broth next time. The pho was good, I appreciated that they gave me the hoisin on the side because I don't like a lot. Had bean sprouts, fresh cilantro, sliced jalapeño (which is my favorite), lime wedges, Thai basil - delightful! Definitely will be ordering again soon! We've dined here for three evening meals and come away very impressed and pleased. The food and service have been consistently first-rate. We're pressed for time now and will add more later. But we want at least initially to offer high praise for the spicy but not over-heated the curry dishes, the Pad Thai, the sweet Thai Coffee, delicious Larb ... not a bad moment in our selections so far. I was here before I figured back that was OK I was in the area and thought I would give her another try The inside is remodeled, very clean appears to be family run and a nice menu lots of choices. I had the chicken. Pho . This is not a big bowl of pho. But it is a generous portion for one. The broth Was a RICH with flavor . The bowl was hot. The rice noodles were perfectly cooked. They were not gummy or two sauced. The broth had flea broth, ginger, and onions and cilantro. Became with its side of basil and lime and jalapeños , they usually get a healthy portion of being sprouts, but I asked them to hold them. I don't like beans sprouts They were quick to offer hoisin, hot chili, and Sriracha .. chicken was tender . I enjoyed the bowl soup very much. I almost asked for a second helping of broth I will go again if you're in the area for sure give them a try. They're very busy almost every table was filled for lunch. My family and I visited Thai Bowl for dinner while we were in the area. We've often heard rave reviews, and since we love Thai food, we were happy to finally satisfy our curiosity. Looking over the menu, I was surprised to see that it was smaller than a lot of other Thai restaurants we've been to, and they were missing a couple apps/entrees that I would have expected them to have. Nothing was necessarily bad, but we felt that it was average compared to our usual Thai spots. The chicken in our dishes was dry, and the portions were on the smaller side. Attentive staff and the food did all come out quickly. The dining room was clean and nicely decorated. I really wanted to like it more here, but we don't see ourselves coming back. read more

I drove a mile past the restaurant before I made up my mind to turn around and honestly what persuaded me was its curb appeal. Absolutely adorable. The dining area is small but the patio picnic tables make up for it and I enjoyed eating my meal outside the weather was perfect! The menu has the usuals, my go to is generally Pad Thai or fried rice of some sort, but I got a little adventurous and decided to try the panang curry instead, coconut base came with a side of rice. The vegetable to curry ratio was good...perfect portion for one. Just a tad sweet to my liking but other than that yum! I'm glad I made the stop. The food is really good and reasonably priced. The atmosphere was clean & relaxing, the service was quick and our waitress was very helpful, and the food was delicious and cheap. We both got a noodle dish along with an appetizer and two drinks, and the total bill was only $30. Our food came within 10 minutes and was hot and and flavorful, and our drinks, the fresh lemonade, were delicious and only $2.50 each. I would definitely recommend this place!! Watertown seems to be full of little tiny surprises that are easily missed and the Thai BowL is certainly one of them. The staff here is friendly and while Litchfield may not (yet) be known for good Asian flair, the local kitchen here does well enough to make 'em proud! To say the least, the food here is consistently tasty and has always been fresh on our visits. The appetizers here are all safe choices even at random, and they do an excellent job with the standards, such as the humble eggroll. Their sweet and sour sauce is amazing addition to their fried apps, not at all gloppy and ketchupy, but light and a bit syrupy, full of subtle flavors that bursts alive as you bite into your steamy hot food. Their noodle soup dishes are good comforting food that warms you up just the right way and their pineapple fried rice is solid. Their curry is also pretty standard and tastes right. All in all, the food here is worth dining in for if you can find a seat on a busy night when school is still in season. read more

I've been told wonderful things about thai bowl. I finally had an opportunity to check it out. I ordered the spicy basil rice. The food was tasty, affordable, and the takeout was quick. Like two minutes between ordering and receiving my food. For the CHILI HEADS out there: I asked for the absolute spiciest spice available to the chef. For reference, I eat Carolina reaper every day. I am very used to spice. While the spice wasn't enough to make the slightest dent, I'd imagine it's more than enough for most people. read more

Highly disappointed. After years of service and being happily served. Recently a few weeks ago I ordered spring rolls with shrimp and they gave me shrimp in a blanket which was disappointing enough since no one cared when I called but I opened my meal which was a drunken noodle and it had about five short about 1.5 inch grey hairs in it. I did take out. I reached out to the restaurant about 3 times and they promised to have the manager call me each time, no one called. So today I wanted Thai food and decided one more chance but I wasn't gonna go to Thai bowl unless they remedied their issue with me. I called several times, "she's busy" "she's not here" the. It was " he isn't here but he will call you back" and honestly I've been waiting three weeks for a call back. Well the "manager" finally called once i stated j wanted an order for today and said that he would give me my spring rolls with shrimp for free and charge me for my drunken noodle even though I found tons of hairs in my last order of both. So I went today to get my food and showed them the pictures, they said " no one on the kitchen has that hair" I said well maybe it's dog hair from someone's animal and they said "we all live in apartments and don't allow dogs" well longest story short I went today to pick up my food and opened it thinking wow they made it up to me and then I found MORE HAIR OF ANOTHER SORT IN MY DAMN SPRING ROLL. We have been going to Thai bowl for over 10 years. We went to dinner before 5 p.m. before any dinner rush. When we went in, there was one table occupied out of about 20. We asked to sit at a table that sat 4. We were told flat out, NO. "We have to leave those tables open in case there is a dinner rush." She was rude and very rigid. When we finished our dinner, we looked around, and all of the tables were still empty. We will not be going back again. read more

When it comes to ordering in Thai, you won't be disappointed here. The pad Thai is always perfect. I just had the best bowl of Shrimp Noodle Soup in my 56 years of life. It too, was perfect. The combo of the fresh vegetables (basil,onions etc) with the shrimp was delightful. It became a broth that was clean ,just a touch spicy with perfectly cooked shrimp to top off my soup. Little spot we found while driving through here for business. Staff was attentive. Small little place, holds no more than 10 small tables..(?) if i can remember correctly. We ordered spring roll and sumai for apps. Spring roll was very small with just lettuce, definitely not like the Vietnamese spring roll. The sumai was frozen store bag, not made in house. Apps was not worth it. We also got rad-na shrimp. Large flat rice noodles with shrimp, broccoli, carrots and onions and a gravy sauce. This was pretty good, i was happy with it. Sauce was flavorful and noodles were not over cooked. We also tried their pho,..... the biggest bowl was barely anything in it. Couple slice of meat, that's it. Broth was mediocre. Would not buy pho again. I gave 4 stars because of the staff and my Thai food plate was flavorful. I'm pretty sure their Thai food is a better choice than their Vietnamese food. I'm a weekly customer at Thai Bowl. As Thai restaurant's go, this one is comfortable, pleasant and friendly and I have numerous go-to dishes I enjoy here, though my main love is the pho and their Chicken Madness. The curry dishes are solid and the larb salad is a must for those who want some extra protein and spice in their salad! The Tom Yum soup is great but does tend to be a bit salty. There's a good assortment of other choices but it's pretty strictly a Thai/Viet Names sort of menu. It's always a treat for me to enjoy lunch, dinner or anytime take out with Thai Bowl in Watertown! The staff is unusually friendly and service oriented. Prices are pretty standard for good quality and reasonable quantity. Note that they do not have a liquor license but you can BYOB and there's a package store right next to it. Street parking is very adequate. They take most credit cards. Closed on Sunday, open at lunchtime (11:30) every other day. Very much recommended. read more
