This school is probably good if you are completely qualified for the license you apply for, however, I was only half qualified for the Class B license and the other half of my experience was not documented from other licensed and permitted jobs. Rob is a nice guy but he made it sound like it would not be a big issue to get me approved for a test date by the State License Board, so I signed up. Turns out, I wasted a lot of money and time because the State License Board is very strict and will not approve your application if it is not completely perfect. Now I need to get two years of experience working with a licensed contractor on permitted jobs and reapply with all fees. It would have been nice if Rob told me that in the first place. read more

I have been working in the construction industry since I was 16 (34 now) and didn't think I'd have any trouble taking and passing the Class B exam. As precaution, I thought it would still be a good idea to sign up for a prep class to get a refresher and rundown of what I could expect from the CLSB. And I am SURE glad I did! And even more glad I enroll with Rob at GSCS! Once my application got processed by CSLB, I was hounded by a bunch of different schools, all claiming a "passing guarantee" and other cheesy marketing pitches. After some quick research, it wasn't hard to see that they were only after my payment, and did little to actually prepare you for the class. I found GSCS on Yelp, and read the extremely positive reviews of Rob and the course he puts on. They did not market to me. They did not spam my inbox. When your program is as good as theirs, you dont need to! I called and set things up with his professional staff. Then walked into the first night of class and pretty much got my world rocked. I thought I knew this stuff....I clearly did not!! The team at GSCS had the perfect study material and practice exams to prepare me for the test. The online content was easy to work through and a great tool to use when I could squeeze in a quick 20-30 min cram session. All the practice material was in one way or another related directly to the 2 exams I took on my actual test. Without having the material, insight, and shared experience I got from Rob and his team at GSCS, there is no way I would have passed. But, thanks to CSLB, today I passed both the Law and Trade exams on my first shot. I cannot thank the team at GSCS enough for the course they've put together. I can't say enough good things about Rob and Jennifer at Golden State!!!! I contacted them 2 weeks before my test date as one of the other schools moved my class to Bakersfield (3.5 hours away) the week before I was supposed to start. I found Golden State online and couldn't have been any happier. Rob answered all my questions and what sold me is the fact he genuinely cared. He offered his free time and books for me to come in and study outside of the class time. I knew I was going to miss the last 2 classes because I had such an early test so Rob made time to meet with me before and after the classes and answered a number of questions over the phone. It's very rare you'll find someone with a true desire to help you succeed, but that was Rob and Golden State. Needless to say with only 6 of the 8 classes and with Rob's assistance I passed both the Law and Trade of my Class B on the first try. I finished taking my 2 week class a couple of weeks ago with Rob at Golden State Contractors School and am awaiting my exam date from the CSLB. Rob is a great teacher who not only knows the information needed to take and pass the exam, but is also very good at getting the information across to his students (something not all teachers have the capability to do). According to the school, 94% of Rob's students pass the exam on the first try, whereas only about 60% statewide pass on the first try. I feel very comfortable going into the exam that I will pass it without any problem. I took my exams and passed both the Law/Business and Trade exams on my first try. I was expecting to see more familiar questions on the exam than I did, but nonetheless I passed on my first try. read more

Golden State Contractors School is the best! They are positioned to help you with everything required to become a licensed contractor. I wish I had found them sooner. They help set up your business (LLC, S-Corp, etc.), they submit your paperwork to the CSLB, and they even provide bond services. I took the class and passed my exam on the first try. After a little research on schools around town, this was the obvious best choice. Tami on the phone was so easy going, straight to the point, personable & helpful that we ended up becoming immediate friends. Sign-up was pain free and Tami explained everything clearly and concisely. The 2-week class itself was perfect, not too long or an over amount of info. Rob is an excellent teacher and just an all around great individual. He explained everything with a genuine love of knowledge, the industry and teaching. I finished the class & they helped me put all the paperwork for my application together successfully. Since some time lapsed between when I took the class & when I decided to sign up to take the test, I decided to retake the class for the reduced price they offer there and it was a good refresher. Rob even mixed it up nicely from the first time so the class was just as interesting. I took the test days later and passed it all my first time and I'm now a licensed C-27 contractor. I even called Rob a few times to ask questions and he was always very helpful and just a great guy to have as ongoing support.
