I have been receiving treatment through various modalities for the last 18 months for a severe disc herniation. I have seen Gene for about four sessions now, and I am astounded by the amount of body tension he has been able to help me release. His massage treatments go deeper than any other treatment I have received. Before I started seeing him, I would have sciatic pain about once or twice a week and sciatic sensations every day. I found Gene on Yelp, when I escaped the Pacific Palisades fire with my family and we went to the San Diego area. I saw that Gene had a 4.9 star rating on Yelp, so I inquired on his services and pricing. Our schedules matched up and I went in for treatment, and man was I lucky I did. I have been suffering from lower back pain and discomfort due to a compressed nerve. I cannot handle sitting in a car for longer than 30 minutes and I usually have to plan out drives due to the increasing pain while sitting. Since we went to San Diego to escape the fires and bad air quality, we went straight, non-stop until we reached the city of Mira Mesa. This 100 mile drive caused my back to be a 10/10 pain with radiating pain down my sciatic nerve all the way down to my right foot. When I saw Gene, he did a thorough history of what caused my back pain and did an assessment of my posture. He found out I had a 3 inch difference in height in my left vs right hip and a 2 inch difference in my left vs right clavicle. Gene specializes in neuromuscular therapy and used his technique to help relax my muscles and nerves. I can't remember the last time my back has felt this good. I felt like I had the most mobility while walking than I have had in the last 12-24 months. For reference, I have to use a back brace whenever I leave the house. Leaning forward causes my back to spasm, and sitting, standing, or walking for sometimes just 5 minutes causes my legs to go numb and extreme pain if I don't immediately lay flat to reduce the pressure. I came in with back pain. I asked Gene if he could go half-strength because I had gotten a massage from another massage therapist that was so strong that I was too store to do my usual daily tasks for a few days. So I told this to Gene and he was very understanding and made sure not to make me sore. He also worked, get this, not only on the back of my neck, but also in front, you know, where my throat is! All that skin on my throat had gotten tight over the years, and just a little light pulling was all it took to loosen it up. I had never felt that relief in my neck in my entire life! What's more, he offered to extend the length of the massage so as to work on my legs. This was absolutely incredible: Before the leg massage, he showed me in the mirror how my pelvis was tilted to one side, which had an "elongating" effect on my left leg. Finding Gene at Golden Touch was like discovering the pot of gold at the end of a very long rainbow of therapists, from chiropractors to rolfers. Gene's expertise is the art of neuromuscular deep tissue rehab massage. To sum it up, it's as though my pain points are metallic and Gene's fingers are magnets being pulled right to those points. Reached out to Gene for my first deep tissue massage. I've been weighting training the last six years and have accumulated some knots, stiffness and injuries. I started going to Gene around 5 years after my brother highly recommended him. My brother had severe neck and back issues and had to get surgery to replace the disks in his neck. Gene was the only person that helped manage and correct his pain until he went into surgery. There is good news and bad news with this review. The bad news I am going through the same issues my brother is going through. I have a herniated disc and it's extremely painful. The good news is that I have Gene in my life. Many us don't realize what one problem can do to the other parts of my body. Because of my neck, I was having issues going down my spine, into my shoulders, hips and legs. I'm a CrossFIt gym owner and I have had the opportunity have Gene work on me on several occasions. I've never really had any issues besides some mild soreness, but every time Gene works on me I've found there are trouble areas that I did not even recognize or pay attention to. I started seeing Gene regularly after my neurologist recommended I get massage therapy after a stroke caused by a vertebral artery dissection. I had some residual muscle tightness in my neck and shoulder near the dissection, and it was getting hard to tolerate day-to-day. I never had anything beyond a chair massage before, and I didn't know exactly what to expect. Gene is -- simply put -- a miracle worker. I keep telling him that he's working himself out of a job. True: It's a process, and it takes a while. The muscle tightness in my shoulder is entirely gone after seeing him once a month for about eight months. He taught me to focus on my posture -- which, as someone who works at a computer all day, isn't the best. He showed me that it's the muscles in the front of my body (my quads, abs and chest muscles) that pull together like a rubber band, hunching me over. His massages not only release the tension in those muscles, improving my posture, but also increase blood flow in those areas too. I know I'm a work in progress, but I feel like I'm in good hands with Gene. I have seen Gene for the past several years. I usually see him two or three times a year. My dentist recommended him to me when I was experiencing TMJ issues and had a lot of neck pain.
