We were referred by someone to check out Goldfish Swim School in Clarkston for our little one. We were told to arrive a little early to get a tour and we were excited! We arrived a bit early thinking someone would go over the benefits, procedures, discuss membership and ask if we had any questions before our complementary 1 session trial. Nope. We were showed changing rooms and restrooms and told to wait on one of the circles. One of us got in the water and it was so hard to hear the instructors. I get it, it's a Saturday and it's close to packed. Still, a bit hard when it's your first time attending a lesson and you're not 100% on what you're doing. Fast forward to after class and another member approached us. She said Charity (I think that was her name, I'm not positive) was typically the person to do class but they were training someone. She was shocked the new girls didn't offer us the cup as an alternative for going underwater the first time and even gave us more tips and saying it was unfortunate we weren't helped more basically. Another parent commenting on it really helped us identify we weren't getting a good experience. What's also saddening is there's no option to suspend a membership anymore. We have to give a 1 month notice to cancel and then re-sign when we are ready. Sorry, but that doesn't work. We travel late spring - early fall and there is no point in having a membership during those months. I will say, the 3 stars for me are based off the first girl who booked our visit and their cleaning practices. They cleaned each surface after each person touched it. Kudos for that. All in all, we will be looking at alternatives for our swim school. This one was super convenient to music class but too many negatives left us with a bad taste in our mouth. read more

We started at Goldfish when my son was 4 months old and couldn't have asked for a better experience! Not only has he developed a love for the water but he has also learned about how to swim safely! We have had amazing teachers that he is excited to see every week! Even during the scarier times of Covid - I have always felt like the facility was clean and the faculty was respectful of our space! And the change rooms & restrooms are always well taken care of! I recommend swim classes to all of my friends & will continue to do so! read more

It's nice to know when a local business is intent on making sure their customers are satisfied and are on top of making certain that the service(s) or product(s) they offer meet their customers' needs, or even better, EXCEED their expectations. Jamieson, the general manager of Goldfish Clarkston, proved that this swim school is one such place. After my last review, Jamieson, to my semi-startled surprised reached out by personally introducing himself (and coming in on his day off to do so!) when we were waiting for my son's next swim lesson to start. He explained he had read my previous Yelp review detailing my boy's personal discomfort with the group lessons at that point. In fact, that very morning El Nino was quite upset about having to go in for another group lesson, but it was already paid for so we were going to get our money's worth, end of story. (I'm guess I am only semi - sensitive on the Mom-coddling scale, what can I say? :-) Jamieson offered to do that day's lesson as a private one to try and see if that might help and, if all worked out well and I was interested in seeing in any positive progress continue, he could work out some additional private lessons at the same cost as the group lessons until The Boy felt fully comfortable. I really appreciated that offer and took him up on it to see if that might help. Wow, what a difference that 1st private lesson with Samantha made that day! My son was all smiles and involved in the things his she was trying to teach him. He definitely was having a ball with her as he also did in the next 2 private lessons he had with another female instructor. I feel terrible that I cannot remember her name at this moment, but will update the review later when it comes to me because I like to give credit where credit is due. There is also another manager-ish type guy who is always very kind to my son and makes him laugh whose name I never caught as well. After that 1st private lesson El Nino started getting excited about going to his next lessons. He definitely made progress and his comfort level went way up (even saw him put his head under the water and come up still smiling!). So the temporary private lesson experiment worked and once I get my weird schedule settled between work and preschool to contend with now, I'll be seeing about continuing group lessons here again soon to see if he can get back on that horse. He had his last private lesson this week. I'd hate for too much of a gap to ensue to upend any progress he's made thus far. Thanks so much to Jamieson and all the Goldfish staff for being so accommodating to my son's needs and making sure our family was happy with the Goldfish experience! read more

Good experience but expensive. Toddler classes only provide about 5 minutes of 1 on 1 time. 4-5 sessions for $100 a month per kid. Might go back when the kids get older. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Goldfish swim school in Clarkston. Their instructors are patient and thorough. There are always friendly faces at the desk greeting you with a smile. The most important part is my 6 year old can swim and swim well after two months of lessons! Last year at this time my son was afraid of a pool without his floatie and wanted nothing to do with large bodies of water. Tonight he swam in Lake Huron with no flotation device and absolutely no fear! Thank you Goldfish! It's well worth the money! read more

I recommend Goldfish to ALL my friends, family members, and anyone I meet that has children & is willing to listen :) Goldfish Swim School of Clarkston is an outstanding facility. Our family joined as charter members shortly after the establishment opened in June 2013. We have enjoyed many "family swim" events and both of our children are enrolled in the weekly swim lessons. The staff members are friendly, outgoing, and readily accomodating for anything that our family might need. We've celebrated two birthday parties at Goldfish Swim School of Clarkston. We've invited many of our friends & family members to join us for a pleasurable swimming experience, resulting in several referrals and new members to Goldfish for the Clarkston, Okemos, and Chicago locations. What brought us to Goldfish? We were determined to find quality swim lessons for our, at the time, 4 year old son. We tried a local high school program and there was an absence of rigor for actually learning to swim. After 6 lessons of "splashing about", getting the face wet, and watching my son frolick around in the water, as I sat watching from the poolside, frustrated and furious that I wasted the time & money for the introductory splashing lesson... we sought out alternatives. Timing is everything. We went to a friend's birthday party at the Rochester location. We fell in love with the ambiance of the tropical paradise for children & were considering the 30 minute drive, from our home, to enroll our son in lessons. Then, what do you know? The Clarkston location was advertising their grand opening, just 10 minutes away. It was perfect timing... my son was begging to have his 5th birthday party there, because he had so much fun at our friend's party. So, we signed up for the charter membership, booked the party & the rest is history :) We've made many happy memories there, as we celebrate one year of lessons & reflect on the experience, we couldn't be more proud of the progress that our oldest son has made. He is currently learning to do the butterfly stroke & we anxiously await the "move up" to the next level & the opportunity for him to join the recreational swim team. Our youngest son is not far behind! We especially appreciate all of the time & personal attention that each staff member has devoted to both of our children. We are treated with care, kindness, and mutual respect each and every time we enter the facility. We are consistently greeted by name by the staff members and we're honored to see their smiling faces. My children LOVE the Goldfish swim school! My husband and I have made it a priority to provide quality experiences for our children. Goldfish is at the top of our list! This really is a great place to learn to swim. Tried the LOHS for the first few years, but the class sizes limited what my boys could learn. Small class sizes, safety, cleanliness, and great instructors are only some of the things about this place. Would recommend to anyone. read more

I love that your instructors are friendly and great with children. I would suggest a swimmer evaluation, perhaps every 6-8 weeks, to move those kids up that have completed a level. We've had Erin and Jack for our instructor and loved them both. The program is excellent, but my only concern is the short class time. I think by age 4+, most kids are able to handle a 45min session. My son has been taking swim lessons there for 4 months and loves it! A warm pool and swim area (90 degrees) is one of the things he loves. Along with the teachers he has had. The staff is also very helpful in any way they can, from rescheduling classes to just chatting if its slow. I have recommend this location and goldfish in general to all my friends and will continue to do so. More that worth the money it costs for lessons. Love it!! read more

I can't begin to express my admiration for this business. The staff is always friendly, the facility is clean and inviting, and I am so happy I found Goldfish Swim in Clarkston! As a parent of a child with special needs, I am always apprehensive about new situations, but the manager Jamieson, instructor Ely and the rest of the staff have been so wonderful, I am grateful to have found this school for my son. I am happy to say that we are joining the Goldfish "family" and look forward to seeing my son grow as a swimmer, especially for a child who was once terribly afraid of water.
