I was a Gold's member for years and loved the place. The people were always friendly and helpful. The gym switched to fit 4 life and now wants to charge additional fees. I can't access the facilities and they won't stop charging my credit card. Tried to cancel and they instructed me to go online to cancel . Went online and couldn't find a option to cancel. Be very careful and do your due diligence before joining this club. read more

if only I could give 0 stars. Watch out for all the "hidden" fees when you sign the contract. Don't complain too much cause the owner Tim Murphy will call you on the phone and cuss you out. Even when the contract is up, you have to cancel it in writing a month in advance. read everything, don't let them trick you like they did me, that's what they rely on!! Now they are about to charge me an annual "maintenance fee" which was never discussed, nor was it listed on the page that discussed the totals for the year. take the contract home and read it, they will not tell you the truth when they go over the contract...DO NOT SIGN AT THE TABLE Next stop is the state's Attorney General and the Better Business Bureau! read more

This place badly needs a makeover. It looks like it's 1991 in there. Really very unappealing. I don't mean rough round the edges in a sweaty, good way. I'd have no problem with that. I'm not saying a gym has to be super clean and sterile. It just looks dated. I'm surprised golds gym puts its name to this place. read more

I and my husband were really motivated to join as you know 2016 will be a year of resolutions and great work outs. Thus we appeared in front of the 18-year old ( at the most) receptionist, after being let in individually through the door with the military level of security clearance: multiple locks, "press the button", camera in your face kind-of-a-door. A little bit more about us: I, heavily pregnant and smiling, my husband, polite, burdened with the accent. The receptionist promptly informed us that we need to show him our ID's before he can utter a word about the facility. My husband had an ID and I did not. If you ever were 9 months pregnant, you understand that even carrying a purse is a challenge once you carry a precious cargo on board. But this kind of understanding was beyond the receptionist who proudly represented agentic cognition theory. And even though we agreed to skip the tour, he refused yielding any information: the possible contracts, fees, conditions of the contract, list of available equipment. He proudly noted: " It's all because we have children here", as if addressing heavily-armed troglodytes or suicide bombers, and continued to guard the entrance to the fitness paradise with the zest of the freshly recruited young nazist. No smile, no apology. It was highly unusual for my warm open-doored, open-hearted Clayton where you can sign up for the tour of pediatric office (with a ton of children around) just giving your name. Where people feed you free cheesecake at bakeries and do not lock mail boxes. We will skip joining this facility since one of our resolutions was to make this world a better place. And I don't see it possible with supporting organizations like this one. What an ugly blemish on a smiling face of our small Southern rural paradise. read more

The gym in this area has changed ownership three times since I was a member. I joined Kx Fitness back in 2006, which then changed to Peak Fitness which is now Gold's gym. Since I was a member for such a long time, I was on a month to month payment plan using my credit card. In December of 2011, I received a notification that my credit card was going to expire the next month and that if I did not provide my new credit information, my membership would be cancelled. I told the folks at gold's gym to go ahead and cancel my membership because I was attending North Carolina State University College and was going to use their facilities instead. I have not been to ANY Gold's gym since January of 2012, and I was CONTINUALLY CHARGED $30 a month until November 20th 2012! My credit card company informed me of this, so I called Gold's gym billing department (866) 347-5808 and they told me that they would cease payments immediately but NOT refund me for a product I did not use. I thought perhaps if I spoke to the owner of the Gold's gym (Tim Murphy) in Clayton, North Carolina, that I could possibly work something out. Wrong. He was much more difficult and even condescending. I was told that I would have to fill out a REQUEST form to cancel my membership that would be reviewed. When I asked about a refund, he bluntly said, AND I QOUTE: "Look, you're not going to get your money back". I then called the Billing Department for Gold's again (866) 347-5808, and tried to reason with the woman (who was polite, but just doing her job) about how I could be refunded for the 10 months I was charged for...but she told me that my contract stated I was still responsible. I asked her if I could get a copy of the Kx Fitness contract that was assumed through golds gym. She told me that she would have to dig through paperwork to find it and "wouldn't even know where to begin looking for it". I told her to fax it to my mother's office and gave her the fax number, which she said she would. The amount charged to my credit card was $359 for this year. It is money that could go to help pay for my student loans, rent or food. I'm a reasonable guy, all I want is what I am owed... But since Gold's gym is making it difficult for me, I'm going to make it difficult for them by contacting a consumer attorney service. Even if its costs me more money to file a suit in the long run, I'm going to take a stand. Its a shame to because the gym is nice...and when you are living in a small town with nothing to do, a gym is great. If you do decide to get a membership there, make sure you pay cash, up front. DO NOT LET THEM GET THEIR HANDS ON A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD!!! read more

My husband and I joined as a christmas/years resolution at the end of Dec. 2011. We love it. Kids Coves is staffed, which is friendly, safe and tons to do for the kids. The love going which keeps us motivated to continue going each day. They offer personal training, tanning, classes and TONS of equipment. Newly renovated and it looks great. New manager here who clearly gets it. Friendly staff, plenty of space and they fix machines that become inoperable. Newer equipment and 24 hrs. They only need a shake/protein bar and one piece of equipment for the old back that I desire and they get my 5 star rating. Otherwise Kudos! read more

I've been a member for almost a year..Most of the staff is very friendly and encouraging..Gretchen's high-energy zumba class will kick your cardio program into high gear..Literally ! The place has a lot of machines and stations to work out at.I especially like the machines that focus on core area..I can go anytime I want because it's 24 hours..There's always an open treadmill to use.. read more

I was a long time member, but no longer when my month ends. I came to Golds (when they first opened) from another chain franchise, also open 24x7 - but tons better. You get what you pay for, trust me. This Golds is like no other I've been a member at anywhere else - it's the worst. With the exception of maybe 4 or 6 machines, every other machine is either poorly maintained, or missing or broken something. Most need weight adjustment pins replaced. I also started bringing in my own WD-40 rag to clean and oil the slides. I swear they were so sticky that it added 10 pounds to your lifting weight. There are many old machines that got a new coat of paint (terrible job BTW), and the padding and covers replaced. To be fair, it's 24x7 - rare for a Golds, a new machine or two come in every year or so, the cardio equipment all have TV's (when the cable connections are actually connected), and it's pretty clean. Members are terrible at putting away free weights and equipment, and staff put up signs to remind them to put them away instead of helping to keep things nice and organized. They've expanded in the back of the building, which is good - but why close off the bathrooms back there? I feel sorry for anyone with an emergency!. There's a lot of work needed to finish the original remodel. Lots of electrical outlets are exposed with bare wires (didn't want to touch them to see if they were live), clocks need put up or need worked on, there's a wall light right above the member's desk that's been removed about 2 years ago and it's still not been replaced - just a bunch of wires hanging out - for 2 years, and carpet tiles are all coming up and are loose. This is definitely not something I'd expect from a Golds. People? Well the members are great and friendly, and I'll miss them. The staff, at least the ones I've run into at Taco Bell across the street, are okay. Ask for someone with any authority and watch out. You will always be wrong, your suggestions for improvement will be returned with a statement like "you can leave if you don't like it", and they're very combative instead of listen to members concerns or improvements. I think they forget we are the ones paying the monthly dues that go into their paycheck. Additionally, the owner doesn't care about you. That's a problem in my opinion. Safety? Seems like it's okay (but concerning, keep reading), but I go when other people are there. What does concern me a lot is the fact that there's no emergency push button on the walls, no cords to pull, no phones except at the front (what happens if you're way in the back?), and no lanyards with a wireless "help" button. What if you came when nobody else was here and were alone? What would someone do in an emergency and couldn't move or get to a cell phone? Die waiting for someone to find them under a bar with 300lbs on it? I think that needs addressed. Why am I writing this you ask? Because you have choices, and if I were you and have the means to be anywhere else, go somewhere else until things change for the better. read more

This is a great gym. I was in the area on business and went there with a travel pass. The staff was very courteous and the equipment - both machines and free weights was excellent. This gym maintains the standard Gold's sets at all its gyms and you come to expect after being a member for awhile. If you live there you should join it and if you are in the area you should work out there. Great Place! read more

I've been going to the gym for over a month now. I love this gym. The staff is super friendly, the equipment is always clean (which is super important to me) and the classes are awesome! So happy I canceled my Planet Fitness account for this gym. All the equipment have TV's as well, which is convenient if you wanna just zone out while doing cardio. I don't understand all the negative reviews, the only negative thing I would even have to say is the room for classes is sometimes a tight squeeze, but that's not even a huge deal. read more

I love this gym! I joined in January and so far have NO complaints! Every time I go in, it is clean and inviting. I joined as a new years resolution (yes, i was one of those) but i don't think I will be leaving any time soon. I even got a personal trainer to boost my loss. My husband and I are going on a cruise the end of the year so I have a personal goal to meet and the trainer made sure to go over everything with me to see where we should start and goes from there. She is a great support system and a personal cheerleader! For those that need it, for an additional monthly fee there is also a kids cove that you can take your children to keep them safe and entertained as you work out and I have never seen a kid leave unhappy. As of January 7th, I have lost 23 pounds and counting! The classes seem great from the outside but I haven't grown the guts to join in since they all seem to know what they are doing and I don't wanna hold them back but I will get there, since they offer a great variety! I will continue to recommend this location to anyone I come in contact with and hope that nothing will change over time... Keep up the good work! read more

Manager is unbelieveably rude. He has no awareness of what customer service and good management is. Just stopped in to inquire and was spoken down to and treated incredibly rude. He spoke negatively about my inquiry to the front desk person with me standing right there and then proceeded to make a rude comment to my face. I was inquiring about trying the gym once before signing up for membership and was told "this gym is not for me." Who says that?!?! Steer clear. There are gyms that are properly managed and this is not one of them!!!! I want to work out where my business is appreciated. I would never give business to someone who has absolutely no people skills, communication skills, or customer service skills.
