I've been coming here two years now and have witnessed the steady deterioration of equipment, facilities and staff. First, the equipment: Most is out dated and the accessories like ropes, bars and handles are usually lost or damaged. The machines are looking old an haggered with a lot of foam padding tearing and in dire need of replacement. The restrooms are disgusting as are the locker rooms. The trash cans are always over flowing with paper towels. The steam room is only open half the time. The staff is more concerned with looking cool and talking to the patrons. No one is re-racking weights or cleaning the facilities. Sad because this used to be a nice gym, and it is in a convenient location. Weighing my options catefully now before the rush of resolutioners really slams this place, pun intended. read more

Okay. Golds gym coming in clutch with the power lifting area, fake Astro turf and a cardio cinema? Yasss queen. I enjoy all the equipment they offer, but it does get pretty crowded. Their equipment is always top shape and I see their attendants walking around cleaning up all the time. The only down fall is the clientele, this is where the high school kids come to hang and they like to come in as groups taking space standing around waiting for their friends to finish the sets. I recommend coming in the morning with the working professionals. ALSO, you should not be wearing PJs to the gym to workout then go home and lounge around in them. That is not okay, and this is what you get at the location. Just had to get that off my chest. But yea, I enjoy my time here. :) read more

Golds Gym Montclair CAUTION !!!!!!!!!!! I walked into the Montclair location to discontinue our membership. They gave me a phone number and said to call the number this was the only way to discontinue our membership. So I called the phone number and advised the gal to discontinue my husbands and my memberships. She attempted to try to talk me out of it but I was firm on my request. She said ok it was discontinued. Months went by and we found out Golds Gym never discontinued my husbands membership Said we owed them $188.00!!! After extensive arguing back and forth advising them that we discontinued both memberships months back. Pedro the manager, refused and said if we don't pay $188.00 we would be sent to collections. We were forced to pay it to avoid ruining our good credit. They discontinued my membership but they never discontinued my husbands I assume it was to get more money from us. What a nightmare dealing with incompetence !!!!!!!!! No one reached out previously to advise payment was not made, they waited until it accumulated. I'm happy to take our business elsewhere. read more

If it wasnt for proximity I would not come. Change management and keep to a higher standard as the title golds name refers to ...this one should be called Bronze gym . Im giving it 4 stars because of its location (the parking lot has made appearances on the tv show Bait Car), there are also some minor personal petty reasons, that they're only getting 4 stars, I love the staff there!!! They deserve 5 stars, especially my personal trainer Skye!!! Last year she helped me lose 12" around my waist and gain muscle!!! I was STUNNING last summer! I even wore a bikini again!!! (Then I took terrifying turn in the fall...The Devil was doing a little dance tempting me with all holidays delights...Yes, I scream when I look in the mirror...) I'm excited and confident that'll I'll be prancing around in bikinis, sundresses, shorts and tank tops this summer! Most importantly I'll be strong again and show off my abs! If you're serious about getting shape, than this is the place!!! They even have a theatre that's filled with cardio machines! And golds gym manager JOHN - Jonathan could not allow him to go in because he has no ID but he has a picture on his phone . Are you serious . They escalated this to a debt collector and from $100, the debt collector is asking for $400 due to not paying them for the past few months, which is not true because we tried our best to cancel the membership and this still happened (double verbal confirmation, in person and on a call). Now I am receiving calls every here and then with a new phone number coming in, telling me how much I owe ($400). Please do not come here if you're trying to avoid this problem. Great gym with a good variety of equipment. I begin with 30 minutes of cardio and then finish with resistance training.

Stay away from this Gym, they advertise seven day free pass and once you meet the sales rep and you tell them that you want to try the gym for seven days and you're not ready to sign up. They get upset and they bring the bully Hispanic Manager to get in your face and tell you "we're not gonna honor the seven day free pass", We're gonna do a one day pass and we don't even have to do the one-day pass because that's our policy and it's at our discretion. At this time, I question his integrity and told him that this was not disclosed on your website? which is illegal in the state of California, it's called bait and switch. His response was, we can do whatever we want regardless of the advertising on our website. He then proceeded to throw my license at me and told me just go ahead and work out. read more

I like that they have Silversneakers classes for seniors being an active senior. Golds also has a section of weigh machines that are senior friendly. Golds is by far the cleanest gym I've been to so far. I'm a gym rat and take multiple classes a week at other gyms. I would like it if they would update the classroom area. read more

You have an enormous amount of different weights and machines to use to be able to increase your strength. The people that attend, the gym are also friendly and helpful when it comes to a spot for the bench for instance. The staff is always friendly and helpful. read more

First Visit. I was surprised at around 4pm during the week, the gym was not too crowded at all. This may not be good, I am not sure. However, it was great for a workout. The front desk area was welcoming. You had to scan in your membership badge at the turn style entrance. Once I entered, I noticed the gym was open with lots of equipment available. The gym was clean. However, I can tell the equipment is older, "assuming "over 10 years old. This was not a deterrent, the equipment was in good shape. The gym was very dark as far as lighting. So I called today to cancel my membership as unfortunately the gym is a tad too far for me now. Of course when I first called the individual told me to call an 888 number to cancel. That led me into the automated system spiral where you could nto cancel. I then called back to find out how to cancel and the female who answered the phone was super rude as I was trying to ask if using the website would actually cancel since the last individual knew nothing about it. She interrupted me and hung up on me as I was trying to ask if this was really the way to cancel so I did not have to call back and ask for a manager to ACTUALLY get the correct procedure. CLEARLY if you are no longer going to be a customer of theirs cannot be bothered to speak to you. Rude front desk female rep. Always rude in the entrance. This is the third time with the attitude.

This facility has really gone downhill. It is dirty. I observed old clumps of hair in the shower drains. There is dirt and dust in the air vents. More than one piece of broken equipment that has not been attended to in a few weeks. The facility gets crazy crowded and they have a no mask required policy. How do you justify defending a policy of no masks during a global pandemic??? The gym addresses covid with a table off to the side of the entrance that has a limited number of Broken leaking dollar store spray bottles with a solution that smells like plain water, along with grey dirty looking thread bare cloth washcloths for customers to clean the gym equipment after use, if they run out of the 20 bottles or so.. you find a empty table. I had enough. The corporation was acquired in 2020 by a German corporation. They have a new ceo and fired most of the old Golds executives. When I reached out to the new manager I was sent a email that to me came off snarky and disengenuine. It said they were following county (politically driven, certainly not public health driven) guidelines. She could suspend my membership for up to 6 months if I wished and provide me with an hour of personal training free ( that's already in my contract) I am shocked at the new multi million dollar corporations lack of care or concern for its customers or employees (and their families) health. The worst part, I'm now trapped in this contract I can't get out of at a facility and corporation that is not what it used to be. Sad... very sad. read more

What's not to like? I visited this gym when the doors opened on a weekday. It was busy but not crowded. Parking in a huge lot out front was easy. The modern gym's layout was well thought out. And, the facility was clean! The main floor was broken up into the following areas: cardio, free weights, equipment by Life Fitness, Hammer Strength equipment, Freemotion equipment, Hoist equipment, Techno Gym equipment, free weights, personal training, functional training. Equipment was plentiful, organized well, and in good working order. The equipment was properly spaced to where I didn't feel crowded. Along the walls were the spacious locker rooms, Cardio Cinema, Kids Club, pool, and classrooms. They also had a mini-store in the lobby. My photos should give you a better idea... My mom and I decided to become members of this gym because it's 5 mins from home. We went into the gym to get information, everyone was friendly. I asked for information about personal trainers. That is when we were introduced to Jhonatan Lopez. My mom and I received a free training session, and we were sold. I highly recommend Jhonatan. He is the best trainer. He is motivating, encouraging, and very friendly. He is so much fun to train with. My mom and I get motivated to continue working with him. We have been working with Jhonatan for over 3 months, and we keep renewing our lessons. He is awesome, and I encourage everyone to request Jhonatan. Don't come join this club. The equipment is in horrible condition yet this club charges a maintenance fee which is wild when equipment isn't being maintained in the slightest. When you cancel they still force you to be responsible for the next payment even tho membership is cancelled immediately. It sad to see a club deteriorate the way this club has. 3rd Update. 2023 Recent Review. 10-Year Member. I have been a member for exactly 10 years in this location and let me tell you straight up that it's all gone downhill. All the OG employees left and the bad ones stayed, they stayed for a reason. They changed managers about 4 times because they don't know what they are doing anymore. Most of the new personal trainers and employees were once janitors. You just need to pass an online certification to be qualified as a "trainer". They don't even look like they can lift. Let me just tell you, they just watch youtube videos and pay 500 dollars for a piece of paper that they are qualified for. You don't need a person to tell you how to lift properly. Just watch some youtube videos man, it's all free. Experiment with yourself for free, not on your money! If it works for you then go do it! There a very few decent employees in this gym, Matt, Eric, that tall guy, and that one Latina girl with the pigtails and braces still have their mannerisms and professionalism. They might be new and trained, but I hope they do not become stuck up to the status of this gym. Most of the new ones are predatory and ask for your bank account and account number. I don't blame them for doing their job, but I do need to apologize to that guy named Jon I believe. He was just doing his job. I just think the new manager or policies for the free day pass is predatory and invasive. It does not make new beginners try out this gym. Trust me. Most of the friends that I made at the gym left because of the people. They went to other locations or LA Fitness. I might just leave as well. I was contractless for 3 years and then suddenly they charged my monthly 10 dollars without telling me. They did not notify me that there was a cheaper option of 15 dollars for the single gym. This gym literally started my fitness journey, it was my second home. It was a place where I could take out my stress from work and academics. Now it's filled with some gangbangers and retired gangsters. This location is not suitable for underaged children, do not go on the weekends or late afternoon. Do not use your keys as a placeholder for gym equipment. My keys were stolen from me a long time ago by this girl with red hair and flower tattoos and the GYM to this day is still working on their tech equipment. Anyways. VERY UNFAIR AND UNETHICAL.!!! I have been unable to go and enjoy their facility due to the fact that their kids club is closed due to covid pandemic. I expressed to them when I enrolled Jan 2020 that I was choosing their facility because I NEEDED my 7 year old to have access to their kids club. I am a single mother work an 8-5 and the only time I can attend the gym is after work unfortunately unlike some I don't have anyone who I can leave him with. I have been charged several times including an annual facility fee and they are saying they will charge me another annual fee come April in which I don't understand why as I have not been able to step foot into their facility. They refuse to cancel my membership asking me to pay a cancellation fee In addition to what they have already charged me. They tell me that they can put a freeze on my account but that does no good as they still charge you 10 dollars a month to freeze your account and that also extends your contract out longer for each month it is frozen leaving you no way out. When signing up I never thought I would just be asked to throw or have money taken away at something I have no control over very UNETHICAL.!!! read more

The gym seems nice, went in for a free triL and free.workout session, seems like an average or above average commercial gym, but I was clear with the employees in advance that I already had a membership with another gym and was not looking to sign up.I just wanted to take advantage of the free trial and work out there one time. The sales rep was annoyingly aggressive, trying to get me to sign up for a membership.When I already have one at another gym. Wasted a lot of my time on a busy day.When I was very clear with them, and prevented me from trying my free workout. Very counterproductive. If they advertise that I can come in and get one free workout, let me do that. Please end if I say I am not gonna sign up for a membership.Then let no mean no lol. As you walk around the gym floor, you come across torn seats, broken equipment and the dress code is no longer enforced (you see people working out in jeans). Our family joined Gold's Gym Montclair when it first came to Montclair. It's tragic to see how bad it's gone. Our family made the decision this past week to cancel our membership after all 9+ years. While the staff is friendly, Gold's Gym management needs to step and start making some major changes to improve this gym's quality. read more
