This place has a swinging door for employees as fast as the machines and equipment breakdown. That's FAST. Ken (the manager) is such a superstar. He's a do-it first leader. Truly applaud his efforts but one man can't plug hundreds of holes in a sinking, rusted, smelly, dead ship. Bathrooms are always backed up and down. My wife said there's a missing door stall in the women's bathroom. Sludge buildup in the water fountain with a filter which says change but hasn't been since the day of the dinosaurs. It's apparent. The owner's ego is bigger than his budget and care for this gym and the members. Out-of-date systems, machines, equipment, and "care". Not worth the price of admission. Management and ownership. John Davis, the owner of this company threatened to beat my husband in the face during one of my husbands workouts. I was standing right there and my husband did nothing to antagonize this man. The police were called and all he did was ban my husband from all Golds Gyms even though absolutely nothing happened that was my husbands fault. Of course when we asked for camera footage the camera pointing in the mirror direction "wasn't working". So yeah, if you want an enjoyable workout where you can have access to all machines and also not be threatened by the owner don't come here. It's a waste of money to be honest. I have had a membership for close to 15 years now. I drive from out of town. Today, the kids club was closed so I told my kids to sit at the table. They were sitting there quietly and a young girl (who has been there a lot less time than me) comes to my kids as I am on treadmill and ask them who their mom is. They point at me and she says y'all are going to have to leave, they can't sit here. Over the years I have seen MANY kids sit at that table. Including the owners which never seemed to be a problem... my kids had never sat out of the kids club but this once I didn't know it wasn't open at the time. If anytjing they should have told me AFTER TODAY they couldn't again. I would have understand, but to kick me out As a member who has been faithful for so long. RIDICULOUS! And this guy who said he was the owner, who was not, maybe a new branch manager I have never seen before. Won't be back. And recommend if you have kids it's not the place. read more

Very middle of the road gym - if you are there to lift, it works. If you want to take classes, it has lots of options. Nice patrons. Lots of equipment, though often you cannot get your hands on popular items like 15 lb 20 lb dumbbells. Often have to go search for the plates bc they are not put away. Equipment needs more attn and when it gets repaired it takes a long time. My two biggest concerns are the gym is dirty and the people at the front do not consistently say hello when you come in. The hand sanitizer is almost ALWAYS empty. Machines are dusty. They vacuum "around" the machines. I doubt they go around with sanitizer. And the bathrooms could use a good cleaning also.. Very fixable stuff when you have so much staff hanging around idle. One more thing, our free training session was a sales job to try to get us to buy really expensive training (We opted out and are doing just fine on our own) and there really wasn't any session to show us how to use the machines...which I would think they should do from a liability perspective.... As mentioned, if your coming to work out and are willing to invest in your own hand sanitizer for when you get it your car...it works perfectly fine. read more

Are there worse gyms around? I'm not sure, but it would be worth your time to find out. If I could rate this gym lower I would. I can't say this gym is never cleaned (because some of the patrons wipe down the machines after they use them), but I am really not sure if the staff cleans on a regular basis because it always is so dirty. The equipment is not maintained and many things end up being down for service for weeks. The equipment that does work has loose pulleys, ripped upholstery, or seats that may fall off. Good luck finding attachments for cable equipment - though when you do they're often broken. Many patrons have resorted to buying and bringing their own. This place also frequently opens late. It seems they can't staff to the correct levels and many of the staff have said they don't get paid very well. There are frequently new faces who say they didn't get much training or were not given keys to open (even though they are scheduled to open). The local management/owners don't seem to care about much other than signing new members and the equipment they personally use. The only point that draws people to this gym is their hours (if they open on time) and their central location. There are other gyms within a couple miles/a few minutes that offer a better experience at similar pricing and hours of operation. I would highly recommend checking out one of those options first and avoiding this place at all costs. read more

Renovation and equipment upgrades so much nicer. The parking lots now the back entry way, so much more easier entering the building verses the other side. The expansion has better air flowing and the work out machines has doubled so no waiting around. Peaks hours are always busy but that's the norms. Group exercise instructors are so welcoming and a good motivation for starters. read more

It's in a hard-to-get spot whenever there's traffic but otherwise the one staff member I see every night has always been really cool, and I've never had any problems with anything. Very frustrated with hidden fees so I just canceled my membership. Ironically my cancellation added an additional $50 fee to cancel on top of paying my current billing cycle. While they tried to offer me a deal to not cancel, that "new" deal came with new additional hidden fees. Also, the sales they have at the front desk are not always accurate. I have asked about switching my membership to whatever current deal they have, then they say the sign is old so I can't do it. The WiFi rarely works too. read more

I have been refraining from posting about Gold's gym for a while, because there are people who truly found a place at Gold's. But I can remain silent no longer since it is the same experience I had 6 years ago. The contract sucks. There are hidden fees not advertised on the big banners. The personal trainers are not part of the gym. They work for Lighthouse who then contracts with the gym. The trainers are young, inexperienced, and underpaid. Showing up for their job is sometimes hard for them. Also, another monthly contract that you can only break if you die. The cost of personal training at Gold's gym/lighthouse is 25-30% higher per hour than others in Murfreesboro with more experience and better customer service. This horribleness was the result of my choice for convenience because they offered more group classes than the other gyms, and if I don't work out at 5:30am, it doesn't get done. I was spoiled by Bethany Sansom Roley and William Kweku Andrews. Some of the best trainers and people I have ever known. Their level of training does not exist at Gold's. Ps- since we moved, it has become a true inconvenience to go to this gym, but we didn't move outside a 25 mile radius and therefore I can't break the Lighthouse contract without paying it out. read more

I worked out here twice during a trip back home (Nashville). The gym was small. Cardio equipment near the front and a small cardio theater was available. There was no door on the theater, so the movie playing loudly could be heard very well. I used the fitness class room for a few minutes, it was smaller than usual. Appears to also double as the spin studio with all the bikes pushed to the side. I wasn't a fan because I like having access to ride those bikes without having to attend a class. I did like the few TRX ropes/straps and utilized those. Strength training machines were in the middle of floor (small area). There were a few oddly placed treadmills facing a mirror along the walkway to the free weights. Free weight area was...... yep, small too. The lights were dim overall with lots of hot pink lights everywhere. It felt more like a cheap club or something. Women's locker room was very lacking. I saw two small benches to use for changing. One was practically in front of the door, just no privacy. There were two, tiny 'changing rooms', but only one had a curtain. And no seating in them. I saw two showers and two sinks. I cant imagine attempting to get dressed here in the morning if there are lots of others doing the same. I took a class at the Hot Yoga studio once a few years ago and liked it. However, it's in a non-adjacent building, so that's odd. Overall, I got a decent workout, didn't use any cardio equipment, and have no idea what the membership fees and cancellations are like. If you're interested in joining, I'd suggest contacting them to see if a free trial/pass is available. Try it out and decide if it's the best gym for you. read more

I signed up for Gold's specifically for personal training, which the trainers do not work for Gold's. They work for Lighthouse Fitness Management, the worst experience ever with this "company." The trainers were the only positive experience. Their contract is unethical and unreasonable, and the way it's explained at the gym was explained very different from what I apparently signed. You are forced to sign up for a contract, in other words, you cannot do month to month, so I did a year contract, which 3 days a week was 480 a month...not a small amount. Trainers cancelled often, but I also needed to cancel sometimes, so after a while of paying 480 but not really being in there three days a week, although the cancellations when done by trainer or you 24 hours in advanced are credited to you to use another time, I decided to ask if I could change my contract to 2 days a week as that was realistically what was actually happening, and they would not let me do that. They said in order to do that, I'd have to extend the contract another 6 months after the year is up which brought my payments down to 240 a month but obligated me to a year and a half now vs a year, but I did it. Now, my biggest issue with this fraudulent company is I had to relocate and under their contract, if you relocate, you don't have to pay a cancelation fee or give 30 days notice. And sidenote, read the unethical contract carefully if you go with this company, because if you cancel early, you have to pay a large percentage of the WHOLE contract, so you're paying percentage on what you've already paid. It's total insanity. But for my specific cancel due to relocation 30 miles or more from gym, they request a lease and an updated driver's license with new address. Well, I emailed them early in the month of December to let them know I am relocating and I'll be providing them proof. I said I won't get a driver's license for a while bec at first I was going to go out of state and that would take a while to get. Long story short, I decided to stay in TN but still elligble for relocation bec 30 miles or more from Gold's so I sent them a signed lease BEFORE the scheduled draft of 240 and I said the license would arrive in 7-10 days from DMV and for them to please have someone call me so we could figure out another way in the meantime to show proof of relocation, i.e., proof of address change online or some other way until the license arrived. The only way they let you communicate is via this bogus operations email. It's so unbelievably impersonal and unethical they way they did me so dirty. I used zero services after informing them of me canceling and showed lease. Instead of working with me or even calling me, they drafted the 240 on Dec 18th and then 10 days later I finally got my license in the mail and they threatened me that if I disputed the 240 charge, they'd reopen the "contract" and I'd be back on the hook for monthly payments. I'd like to know what happens if someone loses their job and is on the street and doesn't have a lease or have an "updated" driver's license. I offered other ways to show them proof of relocation after providing a signed lease of my new address while we simply waited for my license to arrive and meanwhile I am not using any services, not at gym at all, and nope, they still charged me 240 and threaten me if I dispute it, that it reinstates the contract. Don't waste your time with these people. Find trainers you can go to month to month and not get locked into an absurd, unethical, unreasonable contract, To this day, no one has called me. I've saved all communications from them via email, which is the only way they'll communicate and you have no idea who you are even talking to. It's the shadiest, most scammiest company I've ever encountered. The right thing to do would have been to let the lease suffice for that month and wait a few days for the license to arrive or let me show another form of proof of address change, but all they care about is money and forget about customer support or service. After asking for YEARS for GG to add adaptive gym equipment for those with disabilities, I became discouraged and stopped going. Have not stepped foot in this place for over 18 months. CC # changed and even though I was month to month, GG continued to try and charge. No phone calls, no emails, no physical mail, just a call from a collection agency a few months later. Reggie, the "manager" offered zero help whatsoever. Make no mistake, Gold's received over $200 in revenue without providing any services from me, then because they "care" about their customers, they are turned over once they can no longer collect. The woman who signed me up conveniently didn't point out that I have to pay a $30 fee after a month of being a member so they can upgrade their equipment? SERIOUSLY? I did a trial of all the dang gyms in town before deciding on Gold's. And yes, Gold's is crazy expensive. But after trying the other options, this was clearly the nicest with the best options. So I waited and waited until they had one of their cray-cray membership deals, and then I signed up. I won't name any names, but one of the competitors has a lot of sketchy pan-handlers in the parking lot. Another recently stopped being open past 10pm, which doesn't work with my bizarro work schedule, so that's out. Gold's made me grit my teeth when I saw their standard contract, but I just watched their website until another awesome deal rolled around. And you should too, because their equipment is the nicest and they just opened a second location where Publix used to be on Northfield and Broad. I initially joined as a Platinum member to get the benefits of the Hot Yoga studio (located in the same parking lot). The Hot Yoga classes rock! But be sure to get there 30 minutes early since they fill up quickly (or did the first part of the year--maybe due to the New Year's resolution rush). The membership cost is not too much, considering the amenities you are able to use (all the area facilities, tanning, classes) and that the Platinum membership includes two memberships in one. There's a ton of locker space, two showers, 3 tanning beds and a spray tanning bed coming in less than a week. I also love that the gym is 24 hours during the week. The worst is when you get kicked out at closing time (hey it's not your fault the boss kept you late, right?!). I'm there 2-3 hours a day 6 or 7 days a week, so it's like a second home and there's enough space and equipment for everyone (even during the rush hours). read more

We looked in to several gyms when The Y closed. I chose Gold's because they have multiple locations, great classes, and childcare! We have the VIP membership which covers childcare, tanning (which I don't use), Hot Yoga, privileges to multiple locations...and I am sure a lot more that I am forgetting. It is $44 a month--$22 every two weeks. That is NOT expensive, to all of you who said it was expensive. We were paying $110 a month at the Y for a similar membership! Plus the average person pays triple that for TV in a month!! Here's a tip, turn off your cable and get a gym membership. You'll thank me later. As far as service goes, I have always had good service. My children love the childcare. The instructors are great! They have great hours and lots of different classes. The facility is always clean. The staff at the front desk are nice and helpful. The parking is a pain--but not really. I park in the back and walk in with three kids in tow all by myself all the time. I always feel safe, and honestly a little exercise before I exercise isn't going to hurt me. read more

After working out here a few months, My wife quit and joined a gym closer to home. It was a nightmare trying to quit..... they kept charging my acct for 4 months! I called every time I saw a charge and the manager apologised and said he'd take care of it and would refund the money. I finally had to close my bank acct and get a new number! I never got refunded. If you want to cancel your membership then prepare yourself to go through hell to get it done. I've been trying to cancel my membership for weeks now to no avail. They tell me I can ONLY have this done Monday-Friday between 9am-5pm. I was also told they would not mail me the paperwork and that I absolutely had to come in during this time frame. I work in Franklin Monday-Thursday between 10am-8pm. Obviously the only reasonable day for me to go in and cancel is Friday. I go in today(FRIDAY at 3:50pm) and I'm told the manager just left. The lady at the front desk says the manager isn't normally there on Friday and she is there on Saturday. I'm expecting a call from their manager Courtney tomorrow; however, my expectations are low at this point. Get your staff on the same page so they aren't giving out bad information. The absolute worst! I went in for the first time as a nonmember for a class. When I entered the building I saw the front desk attendant on the phone. This would have been fine if she would have had the basic consideration to at least make eye contact with me. She then turns around and positions her body to me so that I am staring at the back of her head as she continues to talk on the phone for another few minutes. I am standing there thinking to myself, "is she really doing this?" Another employee finally notices that I have been waiting for a while and comes over to assist me. While this is going on I glance over a few feet to the open manager's office and see another employee on the computer looking at Facebook. Working hard!! Act one, scene two, I decide to go read a magazine in the lounge area while waiting for the class to begin. I sit down and notice that on the coffee table there is a fork and dinner plate with some nasty, old chicken on it. Nice, how sanitary! Wait people, one more thing. I sit down and open my magazine and guess what? A lovely surprise of a large grimey ball of hair and dust stuck in between the pages of the magazine. Seriously, like the size of a smashed golf ball. I start looking around on the carpet and voila! Filth everywhere. Not going to recommend this place. read more

The fee's are gotcha. They will nickel and dime you. Whatever you do, DO NOT give them access to your debit/credit accounts to auto-deduct on a monthly basis. There are startup fees, semi- annual 'maintenace' fees of like $30, and I'm pretty sure they will now charge a cancellation fee, even though I wasn't on a contract. Last month they randomly upped my membership fees, without any explanation. Now I'm trying to cancel, and they will not unless I show up in person in their office. Explained that I couldn't, so then they were supposed to email me forms. Was put on hold for 15 minutes waiting to talk to a manager. Proceeded to email said manager, and then had my emails ignored. I did my homework. I read the website, analyzed the group class schedule, and learned what I could about the facility. I even applied for the 7 day guest pass advertised on the Gold's Gym website- for which I received confirmation in an email. I am not a novice to finding a good gym with group classes I like. Upon arrival at Gold's Gym, I presented my 7 day pass and waited while I filled out paperwork and a consultant became available. The consultant was friendly as she pushed me to make a membership decision immediately. I wanted a trial period. I was told I could attend a class. After the class, which was okay, the consultant again pushed me to join. When she heard that I wanted time to think and process, she began telling me how unusual I was and how no one else has needed a trial period at all (despite the 7 day pass advertised on the website). Then I was told I needed to pay $10 for a day pass. Wow. From a 7 day free trial to NO trial. I have never been treated so poorly by a gym. The sad thing is, had I not been treated this way I probably would have come back the next day and joined. read more
