I don't really care to leave reviews often but I tried this gym out shortly because of work relocation. Nice gym but front desk misled me multiple times saying there "would be a note made" for someone to cancel my membership upon leaving. This happened 3 different times and then they continued to lead me to a cancellation request the 4th time. I'm sure the manager sleeps just cozy at night well aware that his job relies on being sleazy counting on making it incredibly difficult to cancel a membership. I like to use the speed bag. It was set up at a perfect height. Then they took the platform down to paint the walls. They put new ones up (2). They are toio high now. Ive aske several times if they could lower them. At first, /I was told that they couldnt because they would have to drill into the wall. But, no. They have brackets with bolts so they can be lowered. I pointed that out and was told several times. Thay they would lower one. I've asked several times and been told several times that they would. It still hasnt happened. I'm a flight attendant and have been to this place a few times. Every time I've been here it's disgusting and filthy. The men's locker area is not in the best shape, the showers are never clean, and the sauna is gross. You can tell this place does not get any proper cleaning. read more

If you're a fighter who takes their combat sports training seriously, don't go to this gym- the section for the bags and the ring is small. You cant take the bags down for any sparring, the ring is just there for aesthetic. I was told one day not to put down any tape for shadow boxing, due to the fact that staff were getting tired of cleaning it up. Rather than give me any prior warnings or ask me to clean up after myself, it was only ever brought up to my attention once that the tape was an issue. Just like that- no prior warnings, no allowing for self correction. The acting manager is no better. Passive aggressive even when I expressed my concerns. The head manager is seldom present, so when I tried to email the head manager about it, I was never emailed back. Additionally they give no updates on things going on with the gym outside of there social media, so understanding hours of operation and whatever else is going on is not very accessible. In conclusion, Golds Gym-Willowlawn of off Laburnum is not accommodating nor welcoming to its goers that are combat sports athletes. read more

This is a great gym. It has all of the equipment you could need (multiple benches, squat racks, cardio)--many machines that I haven't seen in other gyms--plus a huge turf area for calisthenics. Staff is super nice and helpful. Great membership options to suit your needs with no contracts. My only gripe in general is that (1) the members don't re-rack their weights, and (2) the members don't wipe down their equipment. While most gyms have both of these problems, this gym in particular seems to have a rampant problem with both, so that neither is part of the culture. (3) Need another water fountain... that has cold water. (4) Need another leg press. read more

The kids corner is NEVER reliable. I live in shortpump and a few times I've traveled to Golds Gym Laburnum, the kids center is closed, without any notice. I think the straw that broke the camels back was September 2nd. Like I said, I live in Shortpump, so I called to make sure the kids corner was open, before I traveled 30 minutes. the representative stated it was open. As soon as I walked in the door, the representative stated that it was now closed. I get things happen, but that was more than careless, especially since I literally called 30 minutes before. I enjoy working out here. Great addition to this side of town. As with any gym, expect a big after work crowd from 515pm to about 730pm; I do mean crowd! Friendly staff (most days). Three days ago I requested cancellation of a new membership that is less than a month old. I was told that I would be getting a confirmation email to that effect and as of today that has not happened. This was just a basic free "Silver Sneakers" membership and the request was handled by a manager in the White Oak Gym Location on Laburnum Ave. Very poor customer service as I had to speak with to two reps before being referred to a manager. They need a better system of expediting the processing of this type of matter. read more

I've only been a member here for a few weeks. I just moved back to VA and have missed the classes in the gym. I heard really negative things about this location more so that it was ghetto. I have not seen that as of yet. Neither have I have I seen anyone that has been unruly. The staff I've worked with thus far has been polite, attentive and knowledgeable. read more

While the gym experience itself isn't bad, it is an absolute nightmare once you end your membership. My wife is very financially responsible, and she went through all the proper procedures to end her membership when she moved out of the area. Her membership payments were current, and she gave 30 days notice and paid any additional fees that were signed off in her original contract. Upon quitting, she was told that everything was in good standing. Several months later, she got a call from a company named First Credit Services claiming that she had an unpaid balance when she left the gym and that she owed them about $40, and if she didn't pay within 30 days, they would report it to credit agencies, which would ruin her spotless credit. As a side note, she was on a month-to-month contract that cost just $10 a month. Although $40 is not much in the grand scheme of things, it is the principle of the matter that she did everything she needed to do to end her membership and was told that she was in good standing. Furthermore, even if she truly did owe $40, neither the gym nor MotionSoft (who handles their billing) contacted her before sending it off to collections. We disputed this claim with the company and gave more notices in writing to the gym, to MotionSoft, and to First Credit Services, but the harassing phone calls about the unpaid balance are still coming, and they are still threatening to report it to the credit agencies. Upon doing a Google search for both MotionSoft and First Credit Services, we have found that there are many people out there who have had this exact same problem after leaving Gold's Gym. To this day, we still don't have anything resolved, and it is almost a year later. We are so frustrated at this point, that we are considering just paying the $40 despite the principle of it, just to avoid it affecting her spotless credit, but then we are worried about them claiming that we still owe more money after that. Just because this gym is cheaper than many others, please reconsider your choice. It's definitely not worth the harassment and stress that ensues once you are done. read more

A Gold's Gym in name only- don't waste your time Flanked by a Dollar store and a dry cleaners in a strip mall, I came by to work out while visiting town with work (frequent traveler and gym user). Gold's are generally a great place to work out on a day pass, so you can imagine my surprise when the general manager (John Krall) told me in a less-than-professional manner that he wouldn't take my recently printed pass (valid for 28 days) since I wasn't 'local' (their website asked for my zip and issued it no problem). When I queried him, he said a day pass was 20 bucks despite them offering month to month memberships for $9.99. While there are a few gyms out there worth $20 for a day (pool, climbing wall, sport courts, etc) and I'd have happily paid $5 or $10 for the day (what most other gyms & Golds of this caliber charge) this gym has none of that and is def not worth twice the rate of their monthly membership. The competing gym is just down the road and happily took my $10 and was way bigger and friendlier. I hope this isn't representative of the current state of the whole Gold's gym franchises in this area. read more

Golds Gym Review When I entered gym, I was not greeted or acknowledged. I had to wait until the associate was done playing on the phone first. I presented my 7 day free trial card and ID. The associate asked if I was going to join the gym. I replied, "I'm just trying it out, I dont know." Associate then raises his voice and responds with an attitude, "I know you're trying it out but are you trying to join." I repeated "I dont know, I will decide when the trial week is over." (Isnt that the purpose of a trial?) The associate then goes, "You're good to go." No explanation of the classes, no tour, no nothing. I asked questions about the class schedule, there were snappy comebacks, "It's over there." Just nasty for no reason. During my brief workout, he is in and out of store walking around, playing on phone, etc. When I leave, the associate then follows me into the Dollar Tree next door. I guess he needed to do a little last minute shopping on every aisle I was on. Apparently when you work at Gold's Gym you need to take impromptu breaks to get random things from the toothpaste aisle smh Worst experience ever! Now I dont even want to go back to Golds Gym to be treated that way again. The associate probably assumed I was only using the pass for the week and would not return. However, I was a potential customer who would have likely patronized the business had I been treated better at the door. I would 0 rating but you cant go that low. read more

It's always hot in here. It is insanely busy in the after work hours to the point that it becomes difficult to get access to equipment of every kind. Lots of equipment get broken but they do a good job of repairing it quickly. The staff is helpful and courteous. read more

I wish they would provide more "free" with membership guidance. I'm not willing to pay for a personal trainer at this stage. I have to think abt recommitting next year. Other than the above the equip is upto date, friendly staff, diverse groups. I love going early...less people. read more

Unfortunately, today I witnessed something that I never thought was possible at the White Oak location or to any gym of that matter. A systematic , unsympathetic disregard to the betterment of society and the fellow brothers and sisters that train together in in companionship to bring one another up in the gym / training community. I have been training at the white oak location since it first opened. Of course the attendance has been off and on over the years due to traveling (relocation to the west coast) and some other compromising events that limited my participation per se. I think a lot of individuals can possibly relate to the economic pinch during or post "COVID 19" epidemic that has been imposed on many of us. Businesses going under, people losing jobs etc. Well , I have endured such economic shortcomings in the past year to say the very least,...and I'm 87 days behind payment of $151 and some odd cents . My account or membership is still active though. I tried to go in ,. And scanned my id gym badge , and the clerk addressed to me the situation that he had to consult with his manager about the action to be mandated. I told him I was aware over the over due balance but was currently unable to make a payment at that time. He consulted the manager, and the manager said he would work with me and reduce the balance (in which I never requested or asked for at all) and that it would be $80 and I would be squared away. First of all, thank you for your gesture and concern about the reduction of the gym fees . I'm eternally grateful for the approach . Second,... I signed a contract to a set amount to paid per month,...in which I'm responsible for. So ,...no discount should be considered. That's on me. Third,...I never asked for the discount and "alleged " hand out myself. I need no individuals pity ,...only understanding. Fourth , I was told they would give me a discount (that I did not ask for ) and if I paid the discount price in full I would be able to train. Fifth,...again I emphasized that I currently had no way to pay any amount and if it was an issue for me training due to current insufficient funds I would kindly leave. They told me I could not train. So I left. 6th,...so under contract I agreed to pay said amount under enrollment,...and in no time did I ask for a reduction,...so I'm accountable . Also, ...under contract the staff breached and made financial adjustments without my consent, and also dictated that I could not train unless paid the said amount. I'm still under contract and my membership hasn't gone into collections therefore violating my right to train. But at the end of the day ,...it was never about not paying the said original balance in full. It was the aspect of turning a loyal , local patron away from the god given gift of labor and training due to insufficient funds on a contract that was still valid. Anybody that really understands comradery, and embraces individuals bettering themselves by training, staying healthy would never have turned a fellow brother away from the gym. That's the most disappointing aspect of it all to me. Society again has failed at epic proportions ,...and lost its moral compass and sense of purpose. After today ,...I'm pretty certain I've lost alot ,if not all respect for the white oak location,...and in the event that lost lifelong patron, dedicated health enthusiast and advocate for their establishment. Remember the man that knocked on the door and you turned him away. May peace be upon you. read more

The best thing about Golds Gym Laburnum is all the various great pieces of equipment. The second thing is the General Manager, Clayton Roush. He is very attentive to the ideals of the smooth running of a gym this size. I am very happy with Golds Gym Laburnum and intend to make is a part of my daily life style. I would also like to mention the cleanliness at this particular gym. A big part of that is due to denegation of one particular staff member, David Reed. Every time I am exercising at Golds, he goes about his duties making sure cleanliness is his number one priority. In other words, he does a GREAT job and it should be noted. I have been a member of Gold's Gym for a while, so when they built this location, i was super excited to have the gym close to my home and job. My experience here is good. You have to come really really early, like 5 or 6 to get equipment you like. If you come in at 7,8,or 9, and after work, it's really crowded. read more

Crooks. Cancelled my membership in June. I was then billed for both July and August. I had my bank stop payment. I call the gym and the manager tells me I have to pay another $45 to cancel my membership. After explaining I have already paid for 2 months ($54) in which I did not have access to the facility, a fact that can be checked on their computer system. He insisted I had to pay another $45 and claims to be waiving another fee... Bottom line the management at this location is out to screw you. Update 9/23/2106: Phone message received from Gold's Gym, "Hi Josh, this is John Krall from Gold's gym at Laburnum. We spoke yesterday regarding your account. I have gone ahead and cancelled your account effectively immediately, without any additional charges. Hopefully you will be willing to remove the reviews taken place on google and yelp." Here is the problem, honest businesses should not need motivation to do the right thing. It was too easy for you to review your records and see that I did not enter the gym one time in the months I told you I was charged after cancellation. I will change the rating from 1 star to 3 stars. Because the gym is good for the price. However consumer reviews exist to protect other consumers, and help each other know what we can expect. It's a small way to look out for your fellow citizen. If you want better reviews I suggest treating people with more honesty from the get go. read more

Been a member of golds gym for nearly 12 years and tugs is one if the most cleanest gyms with a high energy staff.

It is a gym, get in and do work. By the way the owner's daughter sister or niece or what have you, she is pretty damn cute and is always smiling so that is a plus. read more

What a bunch of crooks! I called to obtain the cancellation policy and requirements for my membership and spoke with a very nice man who stated the policy and very nicely waived the cancellation fee due to the fact there was not a Gold's Gym where I moved to. Three Months later I was still being charged the monthly fees and then a $58 cancellation fee was also taken out of my account without my knowledge. When I called to speak with someone I had the unpleasant experience of dealing with a guy who hid behind the company's fine print. When I explained the situation and what the employee had done he said "sorry as you read in your..." Thank you robot man I am glad you can read the statement you were trained to. He even went on to state how they do not make any concessions for military deployments, deaths or medical emergencies. You either pay your monthly fees for the term of the contract of pay the piper to cancel. I come from the generation where customer service is of the utmost importance. When did customer service die and fine print begin to rule? I would have happily signed up had their been a gym in my new area however there is not one so why would I pay for a membership when I can't be a member! Golds gym Laburnum is probably the best golds gym that I've stepped foot in. I love it that it's always clean it always smells nice the staff is very helpful . Another thing that's great is the equipment is always working that's a plus !
