It's a typical YMCA in your neighborhood. This location has outdoor and indoor pool, which is pretty cool. The outdoor pools cost a little extra but the indoor pool comes with the regular membership. The weight room is a bit small but I think they could have definitely made it bigger. They have overall all the machines and weights you would need to work out your whole body. The dumbbells go up to 110lb. They have a squat rack and an area for deadlifts. The main thing that I really like about the gym is that there is windows everywhere, so you can look outside while you workout. The cardio room has good amount and variety of machines. Some of the cardio machines are positioned in awkward spots. It also has two full indoor basketball courts. Overall It's a good YMCA and I definitely get a good work out here. All in all...this location is good and has very friendly staff akatek1

The customer service is really bad. I have been waiting for the indoor pool to open for 2-3 hours and they keep extending the time.

We usually join a pool that is down the street from us but decided to join the outdoor pool at the Midlothian Y, and we're glad we did.

One of the other staff members asked me to wait and to speak with the GM Sasha. Later in the evening I asked to speak to her but she was gone for the day so I asked for another manager, who happened to be Janet! She was eager to have another staff member cancel it for me without even making an attempt to apologize or ask me to reconsider. Before leaving the gym, I asked for Sasha to reach out to me the next day, but when 3:30 pm rolled around I had not heard from her so I called her. She didn't even make an attempt to ask what had happened or why I was so angry that I asked to cancel my membership so quickly. She also knew exactly who I was because she never even asked for my name which means she had gotten the message about reaching out and chose to ignore it. I don't want to bash all the staff as most are very nice and welcoming, but I would have expected more from the club leadership. I would also note that if your considering joining the men's locker room Sauna has not worked for years now and the club leadership doesn't seem to have any plan or intention on fixing it.

Second, if the outside temperature does influence the pool's temperature, then why is it still cold (83 degrees vs 86 degrees)? The shower on the men's side is still closed due to an unsafe and inoperable light fixture. The sauna has been closed for months. And, now the hot tub has an inoperable piece. Maintenance has to be a top priority to keep customers happy. Too many of my swimming buddies are going elsewhere.

ACAC gyms are the bomb.com!…read more So this experience was kind of like going to CineBistro to watch a movie and then going to... a regular movie theatre. Once you go to CineBistro with the in-theatre dinner service, crafty cocktails, and comfy chairs, it ruins your moviegoing experience forever. You become a movie theatre snob, if you will. ACAC has the same effect... specifically the Short Pump location. I became a member about a year ago and ACAC Short Pump has been good to me ever since. The rooftop bar and pool, the floor to ceiling windows, the cafe, the sprawling classrooms! All of it is top of the line. I've always been curious about the Midlothian location, but when you live in the West End, traveling to that area is like going to Timbuktu. However, I happened to have a meeting in good ol' Midlo so I packed a gym bag and used it as an opportunity to ch ch check it out. When I first walked in I noticed how large and in charge the space was. I mean, it really was ginormous. But, it looked more like a giant warehouse with a bunch of machines than a health club, which is what Short Pump looks like. Also- I thought the basketball court inside the space was really cool until folks started playing and it got real loud. Real fast. That would be annoying to me if I'm just minding my business on the treadmill 3-4 days a week and I have to hear shoes squeaking and voices echoing. I digress. The one way that Midlothian beat Short Pump? The pools! They have amazing pools and an outdoor water park. Yes, Short Peezy has the rooftop pool, but these were so much bigger. In this case, bigger does = better. Another area that gave Midlothian major cool points? I left my favorite earrings on the stationary bike and didn't realize it until I was already in the car on my way home. I called the front desk and someone had already turned them in! I went to pick them up today and they were safe and sound in an envelope with my name on them. Thanks, Midlothian!

Unfortunately the facility's priority is the swim team. From late May through July the outdoor pools are used by the team morning afternoon and evening to accommodate families with different schedules. Even our weekly evening class that uses the deep well has been moved inside so the children who aren't on the swim team can play in the pool. Whenever I have brought this up with management they deny that swim team is their priority and say that we must share the pool. I don't think this is a fair statement since swim team has the pool 8-9 hours a day (not including meets)

Some days they even close at 8:00pm, or on more outrageous days 5:00pm! Not only this, but they have decided to charge more than other places and more than when they were working under normal hours of operation. This is a problem because you are paying more while receiving less time to work out. Imagine, an individual who works normal hours, goes home and makes dinner, relaxes a little bit, and then wants to hit the gym, cannot because of the sole fact that the establishment is already closed for business at 9:00pm sharp (if you're lucky). All these factors make this gym lose stars in my opinion, and may even force me to switch gyms because I simply cannot find the time work out at YouFit on Midlothian Turnpike. Have a nice day.

But somehow, it was ok to sign me up for a full membership which she was trying to sell me (without a trial). Why would I sign up without a trial? So we tried to either upgrade my partner's membership to allow guests, or get me a paid guest pass. She spent most of the time calling and texting her manager about how to do steps on the computer to any of these steps. We eventually had to pay for a guest pass. When we finally got in: Gym is dirty Locker room is dirty No locks on lockers Equipment seats are shaky / unstable Not a lot of variety in machines. Only one targeting glutes! The $9.99 per month membership does not include the classes so I signed up for the top tier at $29.99 a month. Definitely doable. Sadly though, the early morning and Friday HIIT classes were cancelled almost immediately after I joined, due to lack of participation. Lucky for me, my work schedule allows me to take the classes at 930am M-T. They also offer them at 6p. Carolyn is the HIIT trainer on the weekdays. I like her style, she's bubbly and motivational and I usually work up a good sweat. I've taken Traci's class on Saturdays, which is very intense. The HIIT zone has all the stuff...Pylo boxes, Battle Ropes, Pull Downs, Bar Jack, Slam Balls, Medicine Balls, etc. Crunch offers spin classes as well as several others. Aerobics, Zumba, All Out Athlete, Chisel, to name a few. I did a couple with Ruth and they were brutal, in a great way. I think the gym has every piece of work out equipment one could ever want, EXCEPT for the Smith Machine, which I really like if I'm lifting because I simply feel safer. The ONLY reason I'm giving Crunch 4 stars instead of 5 is that one day I asked for help understanding a machine and I was kind of brushed off. My fault for not being a little more assertive, being that I pay to play there, Because I came in for the classes and didn't ask for more, that's where I'm at. I'll work it out. All in all, I am enjoying Crunch and the HIIT Zone, even on days when I can't show up for class.
