We recently made the difficult decision to part ways with our housekeeper of many years. I tried on my own to find someone new for Mondays and Fridays. Finding a good housekeeper for any days seems to be difficult right now, but especially on those days. A friend mentioned she had great luck finding a housekeeper thru Halina so figured I'd try my luck. I explained my needs to Halina and she said she would give it a shot. A few weeks later Halina got in touch saying she found exactly what I was looking for and would come by with her for an interview. The woman she found seemed too good to be true, but after 2 months I can say she lives up to the hype. Halina has also checked in 2-3 times to make sure all is good and has always checked in with her to make sure our family is a good fit for her. I hope so because we really like her. Halina guarantees her placements for up to a year. She also required 2 weeks salary, which is a lot...but well worth it providing it's so hard to find both housekeepers and nannies on your own right now. I've recommended her to so many friends who have enjoyed their recent conversations with her and hope they have as much luck as I did. read more

Not a pleasant experience, but you get what you pay for. We selected a nanny to start with our family before joining a nanny-share situation a few months down the road. After the initial visit with the nanny we selected the Friday before she was to start, we decided it was not a good fit. In the chaotic days that followed (which included flying out my mother in law last minute as interim care) we ended up finding a neighborhood home day care that just felt right. When I reached out to ask for the deposit back, my request was rebuffed and I was told that LSC had to work overtime to look for replacements, I owed the nanny 2 weeks notice according to law (not true), and that the contract we signed will not be honored (I have the entire email chain & contract if anyone would like more info). I know there are all sorts of agencies out there (as well as ways to pay for dependent care), but LSC wants you to believe that having the nanny sign a document saying that they are a 1099 - when in fact they are not - was, in my opinion, a thinly veiled attempt in creating legitimacy, not to mention giving false information to the caregivers they place. This was the biggest turnoff for me. This is in no way a knock on the nannies that we met with, but the business side of things that I have issue with. Hello, my name is Marta W. I hired Halina from a work agency to help me find a job. I paid her when I was unemployed and when she finally found me a job I had to pay her my weekly salary. The lady who she found to hire me, really liked me and wanted to employ me for longer. Halina kept on telling her that she'll find someone better than me for her. But this woman really wanted me to work for her.  And due to that, Halina made me pay double weekly for her. I told her no and she started scaring me that I'll regret it especially since I'm a single mother with a 3 and 1/2 year old. Halina is a a very unprofessional and unkind person. I highly regret meeting her. I advise everyone to stay away from her and her "agency." Halina changes her workers every three months, just for profit. Filled out an application, and called the office. I was immediately told to call back the following week ... ok ... I did so and the person on the other end was completely rude; They acted like it was such an inconvenience - I ended up hanging up. Without us, the potential workers, they would have no one to refer to their paying clients. Perhaps treat us better? Just a thought. On top of this, they are the only agency in the area that actually charges THE WORKER (nanny/housekeeper/whatever) a PLACEMENT FEE, if a job offer is accepted. Every one of the other agencies in the city only charges the client. Quite honestly, I might actually be open to this if I received exceptional placement service. But the fact that you have to do the contacting - and when you do they treat you like s***, is not worth a cent from me. I have worked with multiple agencies and they are all friendly, proactive, and downright amazing. This one one should be shut down. I can't imagine how they find any workers at all - no wonder they post on Craigslist. read more

The owner is not professional. It seems like her sole goal is to extract as much money as possible from those who need work and those who want to hire. When I fired one woman due to dishonest behavior (leaving hours early, items disappearing), she told me to meet another candidate but refused to do a preliminary background check until I hired her. We have had 4 years of experience with Lake Shore Care and they have been extremely helpful in finding caregiver candidates for us to interview. We are very specific about the type of experience and personality we need in a caregiver and Lake Shore works hard to match candidates to our needs, AND the job to the caregivers needs. We have hired some helpful caregivers through Lake Shore Care, and one OUTSTANDING current caregiver who we now consider part of our family! Completely unprofessional. I sent a polished resume with many years of experience and received an email from "someone" saying they would like to meet with me; I was given a day and a timeframe. The email was signed "regards" - no name, no company, and certainly no phone number. I responded almost immediately, saying I'd be happy to meet, asking for the address, and to confirm that this was the agency that I had applied for since the sender was someone's random name, not Lakeshore Care. I never received a response back. I called a couple days later after tracking down who this "sender" was and confirmed that it was indeed a message from Lakeshore Care. The person on the phone then proceeded to yell at me that I didn't show up and when I explained that no one ever responded to my email asking for an address, and to confirm who they were - even though THEY initiated contact via email - I was told very rudely that I could've tried to find out. How? YOU emailed me saying you would like to meet with me. No signature, no agency name, no address. It was like a response you might expect from selling a TV on Craigslist. "I want to buy the TV" - you know the response, the kind that's completely frustrating with little to no information. This is supposed to be a professional agency and they can't even respond to a simple email response asking to confirm that they're the agency I applied with, and their address for the interview that they seem to want to conduct? My advice to applicants - apply somewhere else. I'm currently working with a few different agencies in the city and not only do they state who they are in every email, they leave a phone number and - actually respond to my email when I have questions about the interview. The best part? No other agency in the city charges APPLICANTS to find a job. Honestly? I would gladly pay any of the other agencies if they charged applicants, because they actually EARN it - They're professional, they're communicative, and they treat applicants with respect. This agency is the most unprofessional agency I've ever come across - AND they have the audacity to charge applicants as if they actually earn anything. So - if you want a half-a**ed email response after applying that is completely void of any real information, no response when you try to get more details, and then to be yelled at over the phone when you call - by all means. But my advise to nannies and housekeepers - go to one of the many other professional agencies in the city. Like, any other one. Literally. any. one. I called to work with this agency because they constantly post things for extra help on Craiglist and I applied online and I never have got a call back. I finally called and spoke to someone on the phone. He was extremely short with me and SO RUDE! He just put me on hold without asking and then came back and was so incredibly mean to me. He kept cutting me off and was not friendly at all! I called back hoping to speak to someone else and ask if their company is always this rude to potential candidates, and I got the same person again. He said he was the manager. I asked for his name and he cut me off and said can i ask for your name. I gave him mine and not until then did he give me his. I told him that I had just called in and I thought that he was rude and short with me and instead of an apology, he said ok and hung up on me. Halina is superb at what she does. She is able to very quickly and professionally assess the client's needs and match them to care-giving candidates. My family has been using Halina's services for the last 4 years without a hitch. Not only does she bring a deep bench of candidates for initial interviews and hiring, if and when there is a need to change caregivers over time - for whatever reason - Halina has always worked this out as well. I received a call back from this agency. Not only were they very unprofessional. They told me that they can't find anyone for those hours and that I qualify but not to mention my age and if someone asks to either not respond or tell a lie because this person is asking for someone older. Now who would want to work with an agency like this, that asks their employees to lie and lies to their customers who pay money to them for getting good qualified people. Never will I answer a call from them or work for them. I am not going to lie to someone looking for honest care, but I am sure people would do that and why would an agency encourage them to do so. I am a first time mom and contacted her over the summer as I had no experience with hiring a nanny for my infant daughter and was overwhelmed with my search. We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Lake Shore Care. Halina introduced us to our current nanny, who has now worked with us for over a year. She also introduced us to our former nanny, whom we adored, but who had to stop working suddenly due to medical reasons. We called Halina in a panic early one morning after finding out that our former nanny was in the ER and would be on bedrest and unable to care for our children, and Halina managed to bring us 5 new applicants to interview that very evening in our home to replace her. I would not recommend this company. First of all, Helina is a very difficult person to work with. She took about 3 weeks to find us candidates to interview. When she finally came, she only brought 2 people. Candidate A was young, pretty and spoke flawless English. Candidate B spoke no English and had a gold tooth. She said something like "B is what you get for what you want to pay and A is what what you COULD have if you paid 50% more" Keep in mind, I was planning on paying what the rest of my friends pay their housekeepers. Not more, not less. I told her she was being ridiculous and that she should find me some other people to interview. I studied spanish and inquired if there might be a spanish speaking candidate. She said of course, but when she showed up the following week, she said that the Mexican girl she asked to come was a no show and made a racist comment that spanish speaking cleaners are always looking for the next best job so they can't be trusted. (Our previous house-keeper was from Guatemala and was with us for 4 years.... I highly disagree). We ended up hiring (through Helina) a lovely woman who does speak English and works very hard. About 2 months after she started, Halina started calling and emailing me that the girl we hired was "sneaky," "dishonest" and a "liar" because she had not paid her a fee. I told her I was upset because this was a girl she had HIGHLY recommended and she said she takes back her recommendation. She has continued to send me nasty emails about this girl. Very unprofessional. We are happy with our employee, but now she has made me nervous about her. The girl says she sent a check and Halina keeps calling her and screaming. I don't think I would ever recommend her again. read more
