This is such a neat little mom and pop game store that is tucked in a quiet and cozy little part of town. The store owners, Tama and Jason are friendly, they will be quick to show you around & answer any questions you may have. They have a variety of books, miniatures, plushies and board games. Many gaming accessories for those that are into that type of stuff. Very fantasy like spot that will buzz the imagination of any that walks into the shoppe. You can also rent a board game and play with friends. Oh Tuesday evenings, the community hosts dungeons and dragons board game nights. A popular game from the 80s that has definitely had a revamp and has its own return into the world of board games. This is a fun little store where you can really be yourself and tap into your imagination. Dressing up in costumes is allowed and you can play the role of any character that comes to mind. Halloween is probably such a fun little time to explore Golems Gate, as well as any other seasonal holiday. Bring in your friends to this store and have fun! The more the merrier. This is the best-looking gaming store I've seen in the Houston area; from the "gate" that's lacquered onto the main entrance to the wooden laminate and "torches" that adorn the walls. If you're looking for ambiance, this place has it in spades. It's also the pretty much the only gaming store (that I know of) in the Sugar Land/Fort Bend area, so gamers living on the southwest side should be happy that they now have a place to play at. Unlike most comic book stores that people think about when they hear the word "geek store", this place is dedicated mostly to tabletop games like Dungeons & Dragons, Savage Worlds, X-Wing miniatures, etc. Magic the Gathering will come soon, according to the owner, once they're fully registered with the Wizards Play Network. There are also several board games on display, but I'm not very familiar with those since I'm mostly a videogame snob. :P Most of the area is taken up by tables for people to play on, and there's even a huge special back room with shelves of figurines and set pieces that you and your group can use when you reserve it. Indeed, the store seems to be dedicated to group play; they regularly set up sessions throughout the week for D&D, Savage Worlds, and other systems for players to come in and try. Players who are interested in joining can sign up on their mailing list or Meetup page in order to be notified. They've only been open for 2 weeks so nothing is set in stone yet, but so far I've seen that Wednesdays are very popular for D&D/Pathfinder, while Fridays and Saturdays tend to have X-Wing, Savage Worlds, and other games throughout the day. This place was so cool and the had so many things that I hadn't really seen anywhere else! I love the way they had things set up and they have subscriptions you can pay for to use certain things and areas in the store. They're subscriptions are reasonably priced as well as well worth it! This place literally taught me how to roleplay. My first ever DM bought me a pair of dice because that is the culture of this place. They are all about bringing in new players, but they are still committed to those who have been playing for years. The app that they use (Meet Up) makes it so easy to enter campaigns. I've been to every place in Houston that offers D&D but Golem's is the only location that actually caters to the needs of the nerds. I have been here for a month, and I can attest that the cashier knows 20+ members by name. Whether you're new to gaming (board games, tabletop, Magic TCG...) get thee to Golem's Gate. They have ongoing events every single night that is probably going to appeal to you. Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Star Wars stuff, Magic The Gathering: yes, yes, yes, and YES. Extremely friendly owners who want YOU to WANT to game. They'll put you in something, and if all the tables or full, they'll find something for you to do. They're adding merchandise selection all the time. Most recently more and more miniatures for the painting. Oh, and guess what? They've got a station loaded with paints and supplies to use once you've bought it! Seriously, there's always something going on. We signed up for a Wednesday night table, only to show up and find it full. (That poor DM running 12 people at a time!) The female owner promised she'd call her husband to come run us through something. (That's customer service!) But we ended up joining another table for Pathfinder and am now rolling through a dungeon with our Witch and Samurai. *mad cackle* There's a clean restroom and snackage if you get hungry. Prices are extremely reasonable. I'd say based on how busy this place is - the SW side has been lacking a place like this for some time. read more

I dropped in to play D&D and found it to be much better than the average card and comic store. The prices are fair, the selection is good, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. It's really cool that they've got the whole place decorated like a fantasy style cottage. I could tell the owners actually care about the local tabletop community and that makes a huge difference. I stopped in to this wonderful gaming store and I was absolutely amazed. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted by one of the owners. I was looking for some minis for my session of D&D that I was running that evening. She spent about 45 minutes with me helping me find what I needed and also gave me a tour of the place. We are very picky when it comes to game shops. This shop passes the bar easily. They are welcoming to both guys and girls alike, younger and older gamers, newbies and old hands. The only 'complaint' is that I would like to see more older edition and back catalogue books for sale. read more
