If you build models of any kind and level experience or are looking to buy a gift but not sure of what is suitable you should visit here. Not only do they have a great selection of models but also a lot of parts, paints etc. Maybe more important they will give advice for beginners and experts. Sure you might find a model a few dollars cheaper on line but you do not get the advice and suggestions. If they do not have the exact model they are happy to order it for you. I find myself browsing, talking with staff and other customers and get input on my projects. Not to be confused with G&T Model Shop, which offers alcohol basically. This is a lovely little model shop and it really gets the job done. The people are friendly and know how to handle criticism, which I appreciate. If they were little bit more affordable for some of the items then I would give them five stars, but one thing I definitely notice is that they have a good stock and a good following and are a great little family business. My sons and I wanted to build an HO layout. In searching for a local shop, I can across G &G. Keith was amazing in offering advice and direction on our first layout. He even offered to answer any issue we should come across by telling me to call anytime and he would be available to assist. Pricing is very comparable to online pricing and honestly, with shop closing due to the big jungle type sites, I am so glad to have a local shop still where you can get that one on one personal experience. I never leave reviews but felt compelled to after my first and last time shopping here. I came in and said I needed a few colors of spray paint for a model rocket, and the worker showed me their spray paints. I bought the colors I needed but realized when I got home they the paints were for metal and plastic models only. I had specifically said I needed to paint wood. I figure no big deal, I'll go return them. Wrong. I'm told there is a no return policy...??? In this day and age that is unheard of. Completely unopened products, and I'm told the best they can do is exchange. So I did and got some stuff that I wouldn't have bought ordinarily but had no choice. It's really sad because it's no wonder why places like this are going out of business. Compared to an online store, their prices are 50% higher, and they don't even take returns. I came here prepared to spend more than I would online because I was looking for their expertise and willing to pay for it. But I was sold the wrong product, and wasn't allowed to return it the very next day. Avoid this place and their poor service, sky high prices, and poor selection. Just shop online and avoid the headache I went through in my first and last time dealing with them. read more

Back before everyone had a Wii or a PS3 or whatever the new fad is, there was a hobby known as "Building Models." And no, don't confuse this with "Models of the Runway" or "America's Next Top Model" -- I mean building miniature scale models of planes, jets, tanks, cars, ships, etc. Some people loved building replica cars, some people military aircraft, some people brutish armored fighting vehicles (that means "tanks"). Whatever your poison, you'd save up your lawn-mowing money and talk someone into driving you to a "Hobby Shop" if you were unlucky enough to have one in your own town. And this "Hobby Shop" -- if it was a good one -- had shelves stacked from top to bottom with all kinds of wonderful models. Kids in a candy store. All kinds. And paint. Air brushes. Kid. In. Candy. Shop. Eventually you'd make a selection (and make sure you had the right paint,) and then you'd be off -- ready to spend days and hours making these eventually assembled pieces of styrene look as realistic as possible when compared to their full-size brothers. And so it was. But with all good things, Time seems to try and bring them to an end -- and the Death Of Hobby Shops has sprawled across this great Country of ours over the years. With mail order and the internet, the need for brick-and-mortar shops has dwindled, but thankfully -- ever so thankfully -- there are still a few Hobby Shops still going strong. G&G Models is one of them. Fast forward 22 some odd years, and when I set foot back into G&G Model Shop, it was like going back in time. The shelves were full of models from all brands. The shelves were full of models of all types. The wall behind the register was full of various paints. Books, parts for scratchbuilding -- it was all here, just as it should be. I was a kid in a candy shop again! The guys (and gal) that work there are ridiculously helpful -- and that's one of the best advantages of "old skool" Hobby Shops: being able to talk with other builders. If you have questions, they have answers -- and they're friendly and competent. Can't find what you're looking for? They'll order it for you and it'll (usually) be in next week. Live out of town but need some goods? Give them a call and they'll set it aside for you, and you can pick it up the next time you're in town. G&G Model Shop is like a piece of the "Good Ol' Days" brought into the 21st Century, and it's just a wonderful place for a hobbyist to visit, swap tips and techniques, and stock up the work bench. If you enjoy scale modeling and you haven't been to G&G, you just don't know what you're missing. Stopped in here on my last trip to Houston. Neat little hobby shop with a good selection. The prices were a bit high but considering the area its in that's understandable. I picked up a nice little 1/35 Sherman 105mm tank and a couple nice walk around books. If I had any complaints it would be the parking. Since this shop was built many years ago the area around it has exploded but there is a serious lack of parking. Over all this is a great little shop and I will be back on my next trip to JSC. They also could use some higher end kits. Most were Revell or Tamiya. A few Dragon armour or Hasegawa aircraft would be good and I think they would sell. read more

A small, old timey hobby shop just like when I was a kid (I guess the fact that I'm here shows that I'm still a kid). It's a small shop, so the selection isn't enormous, but all the basics you could need are here. Everything for model kit building, model railroading, etc. The owners are as friendly and helpful as you could possibly hope for. The shop has obviously been here since long before Rice Village got so stuck up and "richer than thou". If you're into any hobbies of the kind catered to here, stop by. I've been coming to G&G Model ever since I was a kid! Yes, I'm old and the first time I ever set foot in here I was probably about 8 years old or, about 1963-64! I was fascinated with this place from the first time I set foot in here and still am!!! They still have some of the same plastic models on display in their cases that were there when I was a kid! Back then my reason for coming was the plastic models which they still carry. But, now I come for model train supplies which now makes up a majority of their business. The have all gauges of trains from "O", "HO", and "N" scales. They carry track, electrical parts, scenery supplies, paints, balsa wood, and a wide range of other things, even architectural supplies! A bit pricer than Texas Art Supply but has alot more things for 3d models (like scaled people, trees, cars etc.). If you're looking for smaller things to make or complete a model, come here. If you need large sheets or wood or plexiglass, it's better to go somewhere else. The workers here are usually really helpful and attentive but the old guy can be kinda creepy... He just stares at you while you're walking around and doesn't say a word.. So I don't really like to dwell inside although there's a lot of cool things to look that. It's more of a get in, get the stuff, and get out as fast as I can sort of deal. read more

G&G has been a hobby store that has helpful people since day one. I have gone there many times since the early 70s. Yes, some items are at retail prices, but as a past model train shop owner, I got talked into discounts, I lost all my savings and have major bills to pay because of giving discounts. If I had to do it again, it would be retail with a few sale items. People are crazy in model train hobby. They pay the discount price on the internet plus shipping, but will spend the same amount with a local shop. I HATE THE HOBBY due to the thinking of the cheap model train people in Texas. Great model shop. They have traditional plastic models and modeling supplies. They also have model train stuff. Neat store, friendly staff. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because they're shop is small. I wish they were much larger in order to carry more product. However, the store is very well organized. I've been going to G&G since I was a kid, and still go there to this day. We live in a day where you can get anything you want online, but nothing beats going into the store and feasting your eyes on the display cases full of models and train cars. Every single person that works in G&G not only knows how to build models, but they're pretty darn good at it as well. If you aren't even into building models, but are considering it, I'd pay a visit to the shop. They aren't concerned with selling you the most expensive items, but are more concerned about making a happy customer who will come back year after year (as is the case with me). G & G Model Shop is a wonderful place. Not because it is in a central location, because I live in Cypress, so I can not go often. Not because of nostalgia because it was the first hobby store I shopped at as an early train enthusiast in the 1960s (AD). Not because of the very limited parking in the busy Rice Village area. Not because they do not discount or do absurd sales gimmicks. None of those things deter me from doing shopping there. I have been in every gauge, save Z, and been in many shops in many places. I am into N scale and have all my O gauge stuff in storage, due to space. No doubt that I am a pest to Kieth at G & G. He tolerates me very well, and gives me solid advice and information as to products and trends. He goes the extra mile in service, and I am not a big spender. He has made my enjoyment of the hobby at an all time acme of fun. SERVICE. This is a commodity one can not put a price on. It is rare and priceless. Kieth is the ideal retailers should have, but do not. You get what you pay for in product at G & G. They are in business to stay and not "Fly-By-Night" operators. They are friendly, very nice, honest, helpful, and have just about everything in stock. Kieth does mail orders for me, and never gets anything wrong. There are some hobby shops which promise all sorts of things at all sorts of prices, but, sadly, do not deliver.
