Two of the holes currently have small, temporary greens, as the regular greens are being repalred. Unfortunately, the grass on these two greens is much thicker and slower than the regular greens. In addition, several of the regular greens still show a fair amount of sand. The fairways were in fine condition--mostly green and very playable. I found the course to be somewhat more challenging than some others in the area. There are quite a few holes with water hazards, which made things interesting (only lost one ball into the water), and some of the fairways are a bit narrow in spots, with forested areas on either side. All in all, I had a lot of fun and will be back again soon for another round--especially given the bargain rate of $29 for 18 holes after 1 PM.

I appreciated her telling us this, so we just took our time and had a great round. If you haven't played this course lately, give it another try!

Having read the poor reviews from years past I felt I had to report on what playing this course is like from the 2025 perspective, here's what I observed today: A staff that goes the extra mile to ensure your Star Hill experience met standard, your standards. Professional, friendly, well managed pro shop. The course was in great shape, none of the issues addressed in previous posts, well maintained fairways and greens. The tee boxes are scaled to meet the needs of all, from the scratch player to the hacker. But there is something else that was taking place at this golf club, something that I have never before witnessed at any course, all over the world, at any time: Community! As we made the turn, there was a group of about 20 men, obviously a mens league, about to tee off on the first tee box. These men genuinely enjoyed each others company and were looking forward to a great time. Left an impression, but here was the clincher: As we were heading down the 18th fairway towards the clubhouse, we could see the driving range; it was packed with high school age kid. As we finished our ro and proceeded to the parking lot, it was full of players from all age groups, young and old, male and female, and they were having so much fun. We saw young kids pushing their carts with moms and dads. The high schoolers were heading to their designated tee boxes for some sort of competition. Seniors were organizing for something on the course. Congratulations Star Hill! There are golf clubs out there that boast of many things, but you, you have what every course dreams of; you have community. That can only be attributed to one thing: a well managed organization. There were tons of people there when we went but it still didn't feel crowded. The batting cages were fun, but several did not work and it was very unclear if the helmets had ever been cleaned. It is located right over the bridge from Emerald Isle, so it is super convenient.

It was raining so we couldn't do the mini-golf or go-carts. There is also a huge jungle gym & driving range. Inside had an approx. 20 lane bowling alley and a large selection of modern day video games ( including VR types). I say "modern day" since you won't find any classics like Pac-Mac or Donkey Kong. I didn't see pinball either but there might have been. No coins or tokens here. Load up a player's card with $, and each game is $1-4. Gain points on your card as you play and cash them in for prizes at the counter. I see they do run specials depending on the day of the week. IMO a great place.

The owner (I assumed) was super nice and even let me and my son know which pitching machines were dialed in and which were pitching a bit low. This is a round self feeding concrete circle style cage. There are multiple speeds for both softball and baseball. And they have bats and helmets there if you forgot to bring yours. Mini golf was fun for kids and the course was unique enough that it would keep even adults challenged. Watch out for some loose bricks as you walk through the course. We didn't do the driving range but there were a few people out there enjoying it as the sun set. Nice place to go get a few swings in at, just as the name implies.
