Went there to experience GEL Day 2025 with my son. The event was an incredible all-day extravaganza and Gonzaga certainly did not disappoint. Campus was beautiful as it mixes in the nostalgia of the 1800s with some new touches of the millennium. Definitely felt the sports town vibe here and the pride it has for its sports. In the end, my boy decided to stay closer to home but the experience at Gonzaga and the Spokane area left quite an impression on us. read more

I'll admit it, I didn't go to school here. WAIT!!! Before you decide this is a useless, flaggable review, I did, however, watch the Spokane fireworks from the hill near their soccer field. It's the perfect view point for the display. It took about three minutes to get back on I-90, as opposed to down near Riverfront Park, where you'll be sitting waiting to leave for about 30-45 minutes due to the number of people parking in the area. Plus one star for Martin Stadium, where the Bulldogs play. Walking past, they have a list of thing not allowed inside. The final one caught everyone in my family's attention: NO throwable items. Which lead us to wonder: How do they enforce that? Isn't just about everything that's a thing throwable? GO ZAGS!! read more

My Gonzaga experience was very mixed. I graduated in winter of 2001, but walked with my class in 2002. The pros: I loved the commitment to service and a lot of the more social-justice-oriented professors (Jane Rinehart, Michael Treleaven, Cate Siejk, Marc Alfino) were and continue to be some of my finest mentors and, occasionally, even friends. I learned a lot about myself at Gonzaga and learned what it was like to be a vocal minority. However, I was also repeatedly harassed for being perceived as being queer - threatening notes were left on my dorm door and occasional various acts of vandalism made my sophomore year exciting. Although much of the campus has a commitment to the safety of their students, nothing happened beyond me being "allowed" to move out of the halls a semester early for my own protection. There is a lot of good at Gonzaga, but there is also a terrifying lack of allowed conversation about sexual assault on campus and the safety of diverse students. I'd love to love Gonzaga. Unfortunately, I can't. read more

Gonzaga U is a Jesuit institution in the Rocky Mountain foothills, tucked away within Washington's Inland Empire. The British/Canadians had a fur trading outpost built in Spokane in 1810, and this university was built with the same pioneering spirit. They have friendly campus tours, informing you of how Bing Crosby fit in their history, the lovely St. Aloysius church, and a stunning modern building shaped like a giant book. It's a scenically beautiful part of Spokane. While the academics&spirituality might be found wanting, it gets 3 stars rather than 2 on account of its Inland Empire beauty, in Spokane, the Lilac City. read more

Graduated here in '04. Hindsight being 20/20, I actually wish I would have gone somewhere else. My biggest complaint is that there is a severe lack of research going on here. Which makes getting involved in research very difficult. I was able to do a little when I was in chemistry, but there was next to nothing when I moved to psych. This made applications to grad school weaker than they would have been elsewhere. I would have liked more research experience. Additionally, I find the entire campus overwhelmingly conservative. I should have known better going to a Catholic school, but they're Jesuits... Couple that with the fact that, in my opinion, the administration cowardly hid behind conservative Catholic doctrine to avoid any sense of controversy (e.g., Vagina Monologues), and I can't respect their choices. I would never allow my kids to go here, and really wish I'd gone elsewhere. I have more reasons, but this review is long enough. Honestly, I'd probably have an even lower opinion if I didn't meet my current girlfriend (and, most likely, future wife) there. read more

Having attended twelve years of Catholic school I decided to sign on for another four and enter Gonzaga in the fall of 1992. One of the best decisions of my life. I was a history major - which you would think would be dusty and boring - but they had some of the most exciting teachers and classes in that department. In fact it was sometimes hard for history majors to get into history classes because they filled up fast. Dr. Tim Sarbaugh was - hands down - my favorite professor. Unfortunately he passed away right after I graduated in 1996 so no other students will learn Irish or Kennedy history from a master. And no one will hear his immortal words "You've read the movies. You've seen the books. Dogs having sex with cats. It was a crazy time." Gonzaga is a very social college with a wide variety of activities available to all students, and there is also plenty of opportunities to give back through service. I think what Gonzaga provides, most of all, is a great community of people. I am lucky that a lot of my friends from Gonzaga moved to Seattle after graduation - so we see each other weekly. read more

My time at Gonzaga University was such an amazing four years. If I could do it all again I would choose Gonzaga every time. I made amazing friends and learned a tremendous amount. As someone who graduated with a degree in chemistry I must say that their science program was outstanding and I would recommend it to anyone. They really prepared me well for my future in pharmacy. We dropped any consideration of attending, since learning that Gonzaga had forbid a visit by Ben Shapiro I guess in February, they announced: President Thayne McCulloh said Monday the university and the Gonzaga University College Republicans agreed to an "event location and protocol that will provide a more appropriate level of safety and security." Gonzaga has been a blessing to two of my family members, my Auntie attended Gonzaga in the early 90's and my cousin is currently a sophmore. My Auntie absolutely loved her time at Gonzaga, she not only earned her degree but also decided to partake in the abroad programs and spent much of her time in Italy and France. My cousin who has recently transfered to Gonzaga is loving it. Last weekend I went to visit her and I was so pleased to see how beautiful the campus is. Also everywhere I went people seemed to be joyful and quite friendly. The Churches on campus are incredibly beautiful, also the scenery by the river and all that jazz. I must say it is quite nice, and well worth a visit. Go Zags! read more

I was love/hate with Gonzaga for most of my years there. However, the hate was mostly tough love in disguise. I met great lifelong friends. Was pushed hard in education department. While Spokane is not too aesthetically pleasing, the campus is beautiful most days. When it is all said and done I look back fondly of GU. What a very nice location. I am searching for schools to pursue my MBA. Gonzaga has contacted several times so I decided to pay them a visit. I ran into some problems and arrived around 4:30 instead of 12 (my appointment time). I called ahead and they said they would try to accomodate me. When I showed up, the assistant to the dean was there to talk to me, but it seemed like everyone was avoiding me like the plague. When I asked some questions, I was met with the response that I shouldn't expect much from anyone on a Friday afternoon near closing time. I didn't get any of my questions answered, but I was given the go ahead to explore the campus (thanks). I am not sure what to think of this first impression, so I will keep the rating neutral. This is because the students (undergrads) seemed to be very helpful and had a lot of pride in their school. Go Zags. read more

My daughter just returned from Study Abroad Gonzaga in Florence! She gave it a 5 Star rating! Incredible education in Florence. She returns to begin her Clinical BSN Program that is excellent. The facilities have grown with a beautiful new Student Center, School Spirit with the Zag B-BALL team making it to the National NCAA Championship last year. Classes are usually 30 or less. About 5500 undergrads. My son graduated with Business Degree with emphasis in Finance and Accounting! Great mentoring. Passed CPA Boards first year out and got job with KPMG right out of school! Ive been to Spokane ( and it's pronounced Spo Kane, like a cane of sugar), and its basically no mans land. There is nothing there to do. boring nothing little town. The people are rude there as well. Try to ask them a question and they look at you as if you're stupid. After dropping my sister off here at Gonzaga, i wasnt impressed. The people at this "university" are rude and academics are poor. I dont understand why anyone with a brain would wanna go all the way out here while there are nice colleges right in their own hometown. read more

Transferred from Community College and it has been a rollercoaster attempting to get my degree and work with professors. They are aimed at working with the people who came in as freshman rather than all people. The professors act like you're dumb if you aren't getting how to use the online system they all use. In my experience attempting to get my biology degree, I have been faced with so much poor face to face contact with professors in the science department. There are few I would talk to, but most I know don't wish to really give the time to work with. I'm finishing my degree here, because I've spent too much time and money already, but I would abstain if you're considering attending. The campus is nice, but people get their friend groups their freshman year and it's hard to integrate pas that. Not worth the money or experience. read more

THIS IS SPECIFICALLY FOR THE COG @ GONZAGA I thought it was slightly suspicious that a man with my intelligence was accepted to the prestiges Gonzaga University. I started going to the cog early in my Gonzaga career. It was not too bad at first but as I kept going I realized what was going on.... They accepted me so they could kill me with this terrible food such as classics like "London Broil" or "Yankee Roast" What the hell is that?? So I moved away from the main meals and started using the salad bar. At that point I decided it was better to get a crappy salad wrap from a meth addict serving me, rather than experience world war three on my stomach from the large amount of laxatives that seem to be present in the other food from the COG. Overall the COG has successfully taken it's place at the top of my list of worst places to eat. Next time you consider going to the cog think to yourself....do I want to be on the toilet for 4 hours squeezing out a hot karl? read more

Well, I didn't go to school here as a student, but I did spend a week on "campus" as a company advisor for a group of high school students spending a week at summer "biz camp." Beautiful, small campus, with historic buildings. Gorgeous stained-glass chapel. Wouldn't be a bad place to be a student by the look of it, if you can afford the tuition. Downside--dorms don't have airconditioning and are in a MAJOR need of a remodel. read more

I graduated from Gonzaga almost 4 years ago. In looking back at my experience, I would say that the positives far outweight the negatives. I never once had the feeling that I wanted to transfer to another college during my 4 year tenure. The biggest compliment I can give to the Gonzaga education and community are the values that were instilled in me. I admit, I did alot of growing up while in college and for me, Gonzaga was the perfect place for me to do this. I was fortunate enough to land a great job right out of college and I contribute most of my personal and professional success to the education I received at this institution. If I were to do it again, I might apply to more colleges given what I know about them now and who knows if I would end up at Gonzaga. With that being said, hindsight is always 20/20, so I have no regrets with going to this school. read more

Not a bad education. I graduated from the economics & political science departments. Pros: small class size, teachers focused on education rather than just research, no fraternities. Cons: required religion courses, high cost of tuition, and HORRIBLE food at the cafeteria, plus a required meal plan to make you eat there. read more

I went to school there, and shortly after graduation I was hired on as a full time staff member. I left after about a year and a half for another job. One of the first staff members I met shortly after I was hired was Pat Faulkinberry, the Director of Campus Card Services, as she gave me my employee ID card. She was INCREDIBLY condescending, speaking to me in the most PATRONIZING tone - as if I were a five year old and not a college educated adult in the workforce. Her voice was not only overly perky and flat out annoying, but LOUD - so I have no doubt that everyone in the office, as well as anyone passing by, could hear her belittle me. Quite frankly, it was humiliating. I have heard many similar complaints about this woman from other staff members, and I have also been told by some who have worked with her directly that she can be INCREDIBLY demanding when it comes to her work environment. Steer clear of this woman if you can. She is the total antithesis of everything for which GU claims to stand. I'm amazed that she's still working there. Lastly, the HR Department is great if you have questions about your benefits, but when it comes to employee relations, they're completely useless. When push comes to shove, they will side with the institution and protect those in leadership positions. read more

With an education provided by professors who care about their students both in and out of the classroom, a study abroad program out of this world (literally), and a basketball team that is sure to bring the hype to any and all, what's not to love? The university does more than educate the intellect, but does everything in its ability to educate the body and the soul as well. Lets be honest, very few people will know exactly what they want to do for the rest of their lives at 18 years old. Gonzaga University does an incredible job helping students transition from one field of study to the next, without setting the student behind in terms of graduation. No matter who you are, you will never walk across campus without seeing both an unfamiliar, and a familiar face. Good luck visiting GU and NOT falling in love. read more

I'm a graduate of the Law School (early 90's). My daughter attended Gonzaga as an undergrad (to include a year at Florence). Many of the criticisms posted by others are right on the money. If you don't 'fit it', Gonzaga isn't the greatest social experience in the world. When I attended, I felt there folks belonging to racial minorities had a tough time of things -- I still feel that way. If you don't ascribe to Catholic values or high academic standards, you may find yourself on the outside looking in. The 'on campus' community is not particularly welcoming of the 'off campus residents'. During the first Bush War, I was a reserve officer on '3 day standby for deployment status'. I was never called up but spent a very agonizing 6 months with my bags packed. During this time the administration and faculty could have cared less about my personal situation. No help or guidance of any kind whatsoever. My classmates branded me as a "communist because I was critical of how the government was handling things'; a few weeks later these same folks branded me a fascist because I supported the draft registration requirements and the reserve component training that was being implemented. Ya gotta love folks that are all for a war as long as it doesn't inconvenience them personally or impact their family members. Such was the student body at Gonzaga. Now all that aside, I attended four colleges and universities on six different campus settings during my 13 year academic career. Without question, the very best academic environment I experienced was at Gonzaga. With very few exceptions, the professors are top drawer, the classes are well organized, and (if you hold their feet to the fire) the administration provided excellent academic support, even going so far as to hire an adjunct professor (who was better than the guy that taught the class) to teach a night class to a section of, what turned out to be, 5 students so I could graduate on schedule. The list of academic institutions that will go that far for a single student has to be very short. In closing, I feel what you get out of any college or university is proportional to what you put into it. It is easier if you 'fit in' with the crowd, but if you are primarily concerned about your education, the social distractions can be minimized or ignored. Gonzaga is an excellent academic institution. My daughter obtained her undergrad at Gonzaga and went on to Grad School at the University of Oregon. At the University of Oregon, my daughter received tuition waivers, health insurance and a stipend from the first day she arrived till she graduated with a pair of graduate degrees. Three days after graduating she was hired by the University of Oregon to administer one of the departments where she had just obtained her degree. All that know my daughter will tell you she is a consummate diplomat, an extremely demanding academian, a committed social justice activist, and a superior leader. Gonzaga didn't create those qualities but the Gonzaga experience allowed her to hone and develop those qualities to a very high level. Gonzaga is an outstanding academic institution. There are aspects of Gonzaga that could use improvement and there are aspects of Gonzaga that may not appeal to some. In fairness, these issues can be found on any campus. read more

Administration is a spineless mess. Academic departments are not in communication and give conflicting information. Records are not updated. Students since 2011 are "enrolled in programs" and are not allowed to register themselves -- it's supposed to be done by administration. They obviously don't have a clue; I was registered for the wrong class 4 times for just one semester, even when I gave them the class number to key in. Everybody there was "confused" about it all. You have no control. Insane. Also, they accepted my transfer units, then later claimed I still had to take the classes over and pay tuition again -- to them this time. I'm now looking a loss of almost $10K in tuition I had already paid, plus I'm a year behind to graduate. The entire experience has been a bait-and-switch nightmare. There should be an investigation into their practices. I just never expected this when their reputation is supposed to be so great. Wish I had gone somewhere else. It wasn't like I didn't have options. Now it's just a total regret. read more
