Im currently at the good ambler. I usually love this place and will come here for hours every day to study (even though the wifi connection is only and hour- and this is my only real complaint about this place. Until now!) The girl with braids was at the register. There was someone ordering, me and one other person both clearly trying to read the menu written behind them. The employee yelled out "Can we form a line against the case". Not review worthy but definitely threw off the usually inviting vibes. After the girl finished ordering she went to tap her phone to Apple Pay. The employee was like "STOP. Dont tap it now or it will go through all wrong" The girl was like "oh my bad" and the employee double down "Yeah even when you're done it'll go through. So never put your phone out until we read your total" and the poor girl awkwardly apologized again.. I felt bad for the girl. It felt like an overwhelmed mom snapping at her kids. Weird but then I switched over to a booth table when one opened up. I always spread everything out and get comfy. I had my feet crossed and the same employee came over and started waving at me. I was like "what? What?" What?" And all she said was "your feet". My feet were crossed on the bench but peoples literal ass checks are on theses things (mine rn to be exact)! Why are you so mad about the side of my shoe touching the booth? (not rhetorical, is there some rule or can I sit in peace?) Went in on a Saturday around 12:30pm hoping to find a spot while the lunch crowd left. I was able to snag a solo spot at a table, but can see how busy this place can get with little to no seating available throughout the day. There's paid parking for 3 blocks around for $4/hr although I heard there's free parking if you are 5 blocks out. Absolutely beautiful interior - large space with a decent amount of seating. There is a bar facing the bakery in the back that are good for people who are looking to study. There are small tables for people to drop by and hang out and/or have meetings. Whatever the reason is, it's a place inviting drop - by's to stay awhile. I got an Oat Milk Dirty Chai and a chocolate croissant. Their pastries and chocolates are beautiful so it's hard not to get one! read more

I would've given 5 stars but this otherwise excellent spot recently initiated a bogus new policy: no seating from 11am-1pm, M-F. Why? Because they booked out the entire place for their upstairs employees for lunch. Customers can only order to go during those prime hours. I've been in there a few times during the hours and it's never crowded, there's plenty of seating. They could easily partition the place to accommodate both employee lunch and the public. Hopefully Good Ambler management revises this policy, they risk losing a lot of business if they haven't already. read more

Honestly, just come here for the kouign amann. It's croissant-like with sugar laminated in the last few layers to give it the perfect crispy exterior. It's just sweet enough and so good that you'll regret splitting with your partner instead of getting your own. The cold brew and Americano here are also pretty good, but nothing too special. read more

I love this place so so much. Would've given it 5 stars but recently went in with my friend ( we come here regularly) ordered a few things and went to sit down it was a lil after noon or so on a Saturday/Sunday? We were told we'd need to pack up our things and go or stand until 1 pm due to the venue being closed despite the signs saying open so we'd need to stay by the place where they keep the baked goods or leave until 20 mins later? They were insistent that we leave and when we didn't immediately pack up because we planned to stay there work and order breakfast they threatened to have security escort us out?? Extremely unprofessional and made us both STRESSED. If you all are closed keep the closed sign on this open but not doesn't work and if it was someone else's first experience there it would probably be their last. read more

Food is exceptional. The pastries and chocolates are truly elegant and gorgeous and YUMMY! My experience on multiple occasions with their cortados was good also. Not a big fan of the vacuous space.. I wish it was more cozy. I am sad to say that it's a bit hit and miss on the staff. There were two occasions (Easter time and another) where the staff at the counter was so nice and helpful but generally they make you feel less than welcome...maybe they are stressed out cause they are so busy but really the more friendly folk should be at the counter because the gorgeous case of pastries and chocolates is exciting and worthy! read more

A really pleasant space with lots of different seating. I really dig some of the decadent pastries, like the pistachio gateau. One thing that stands out is how pleasant and hospitable the staff is. But we went there and were informed that it was pre-booked by someone so could only stat there for 15 more minutes and on top of that the croissants they were serving couldn't be warmed up as they said so we had to eat them cold and it was quite chewy and doughy. read more

I honestly just came here to get the Kouign Amann. Just ran in there, got four and ran out. It seems like a nice roomy but cozy coffee shop you can spend all day in. The Kouign Amann here is so damn good. If you haven't had one before, you need to get over here and try one. It's like an elevated croissant. I think croissants use to be the IT pastry that was hard to spell and pronounce and people just said they ate to sound cultured but now they're found everywhere and mostly terrible. You can tell the difference between mass produced croissants and genuine ones. The Kouign Amann has taken that place. It's like a croissant but more buttery in the center with a top layer of sweet glaze or sugar. I think it is a pretty labor intensive pastry so it isn't offered at too many places. My mouth is watering as I type this. I miss the one Dominique Ansel Bakery offers but we sadly don't have a location in Chicago so this is the next best thing. Forget the over saturated croissants, macaroons and cupcakes and head over and try one so you have something bougee to talk about at your next sweets discussion. read more

When I went it was super busy and took like twenty minutes to find a seat. Overall it had a nice atmosphere though the inside was really pretty. The coffee was fine just how you would expect a standard latte to be but the almond coffee cake was sooooo good. Definitely get it if you go. It was a nice experience. read more

Beginning the day with something sweet always means it's gonna be a good dayMy friend and I stopped into Good Ambler for a late morning latte and something sweet. We both ended up getting chai lattes (mine was hot with oatmilk and my friends was iced with almond milk.) Then we got Tiramisu, Berry Cheesecake, a Classic Croissant, an espresso truffle bonbon, and a passion fruit bonbon. This was the perfect amount of sweets between the two of us. The tiramisu was really creamy and had a great coffee flavor, it wasn't dull like most tiramisu I've had before, I only had a bite of this because it was my friends but my bite was very enjoyable. I had a berry cheesecake and that was really fantastic, it was tart but the tangy creamy cheesecake balanced it out perfect, the fresh berries were also a treat. The croissant was really buttery, overall it was solid. Good flakey texture and a nice soft pillowy middle. The only chocolate I had was the passion fruit and it was good but wow was it so sour and tart, I don't know if I haven't eaten a lot of passion fruit or what but it was a flavor punch that's for sure. The espresso chocolate I didn't try but my friend seemed to enjoy it, espresso and chocolate are always a great pairing. The lattes we got were tasty and paired with everything we ate really well, the chai flavor was really subtle and easy to drink. I loved the ambience in this place, it was packed but when you found a table just listening to the bustle of everyone talking while enjoying the chill music and sipping on your coffee was definitely the vibe. I will definitely come back here and try some more pastries when I'm in the city. Good Ambler has become one of my favorite coffee shops in the city and since it is conveniently located, I find myself coming here pretty much once a week at least. The pastries at Good Ambler are so delicious and there is such a wide selection of baked goods, tiny cakes, and chocolates to try. One of the most popular pastries here is the kouign amann which is usually the first to sell out, but I haven't had too many issues getting one. If you are visiting much later in the day however, it is possible that they will be sold out. The kouign amann is deliciously buttery, sticky, and tastes like pure sin but it is so good. Another one of my favorite things to get is the Brownie dessert that is part of a rotating selection of tiny cakes that is offered. The silky mousse contrasted with the crunchy chocolate outer edge makes for a wonderful dessert. If you are feeling something more savory, I would recommend trying the BLTA. The Boursin cheese spread and chive bun are nice savory flavors that will balance out the sweetness of any desserts you have consumed while at Good Ambler. I am glad that such a coffee shop/cafe is in the Fulton Market area. I am looking forward to visiting many more times in the future and making my way through all of the menu items! read more

So happy to see this place open and doing well! I've been here a few times since they opened, in the middle of the pandemic, and have always found their coffee delicious and pastries wonderfully flaky. Today I got a dirty chai latte and chocolate croissant, and I'll definitely be keeping these in the rotation! My only minor issue is I wish they had more latte flavors, but the coffee is definitely good enough that it stands on its own (I just happen to like trying unique flavors). So, ordered a drip coffee and I was informed after handing over $5 cash for a $3.25 cup of coffee that they had no change and would be giving me $1 only back ...I then went back to purchase tea for $3 and paid $3 cash and I was told that I owed $3.25. I said to the cashier since she owed me money back on the prior purchase that it should be a wash to which she told me that was not their policy but she would make a one time only exception and I shouldn't expect another favor.... Coffee was good and the pastries are good too though a bit pricey. There's a sort of open kitchen at end of seating where you can watch the pastry making. I knocked off a star because the WiFi is only for 90 mins and it is bonded to MAC address of your device so you can't login again until sometime. I privately emailed the manager to let them know I was made to feel uncomfortable by how I was approached by staff. The manager replied invalidating my experience and did not even apologize that I had a bad experience but instead was condescending when I have been nothing but a kind patron. He made it clear that my patronage nor experience with this business is important to him. Though having your staff's back is important invalidating someone's experience and emotions when they were just reaching out to let them know how something was perceived says a lot. There are a lot of other great places to explore in west loop where customers are treated with kindness and consideration. read more

I got the London Fog and it was nice to sip while I did work. Although most of the seats were taken, the place didn't feel packed because of how spacious it is and I felt like I could still concentrate on my work.
