Not sure how Matt managed to get hired here, so I assume being rude is part of their training. After hearing great things about their coffee and being in town for a trip, I payed Wormhole a visit. I ordered 5 coffees one morning, and all the register guy did was write a few names on some cups and placed it down. I understand tipping culture is a divided topic of discussion, but at the end of the day, it is OPTIONAL. After pressing the skip button from what I believe to be non-tip worthy service, he threw a fit and said "Wow you're serious? After I did all that?" Meanwhile all he did was write names on cups. Now I would understand if he was the barista working hard to pump out the coffees, but two lovely ladies were in the back doing that. He shooed me and my friend out of line as we were still processing what he just said. The next customer orders and he had the audacity to talk about us to them while we're 5 feet away. Delusional as he was, he had the nerve to say we were holding up the line and made him do "all that work", and I could promise you, we knew exactly what we wanted to order the second we got up, and took no longer than 45 seconds. We also witnessed he got into it with another customer, so it seems like he's the problem here. Most wild service I have ever received, all for some milky coffees. I ended up tipping the lovely ladies in the back though. Be warned. There are much better spots. read more

Great neighborhood coffee spot that has chill vibes. Came in to work remotely here on a Wednesday and it was packed with people. I got the fig matcha which was only slightly sweet with a nice cinnamon undertone. Loved it! WiFi speed was great and there's lots of big tables to sit at. 04/22/26 - it's been awhile since I've been in The Wormhole Coffee shop in Wicker Park. I came here w/both of my sisters one is visiting from Virginia & the other one lives up in Deerfield. They have Good coffee w/some very unique flavors & pastries in a cool vibe coffee shop. They have some cool memorabilia for the decor inside. I ordered the Koopa-Troopa a peanut butter mousse & vegan chocolate latte. My one sister got the Cool but Rude a fresh ginger & curry sauce latte & the other one got The Ghostly Trio White Miso Caramel & Black Sesame Latte. Cool names but the coffee was so so. I was meeting a family member in Wicker Park, so we decided to stop by Wormhole Coffee. It was my first time here, and I was absolutely stunned by the decor here. It had an 80s theme to it, and I loved the Back to the Future car with all the star wars figurines everywhere. I ordered the Ghostly Trio, and I pleasantly enjoyed it! It had some caramel and a hint of black sesame. The service was very nice; it was a Sunday rush, so it did take a while to get our coffees but they were very apologetic about that. read more

Wormhole Coffee has to be the hipster capital of Chicago. I felt like I walked right off a 1980s Venice beach boardwalk and into this coffee shop. There was a full scale model Delorean hanging in the back, vintage 80s movie posters lining the walls, and vintage chairs and tables. I always romanticize getting a sophisticated coffee drink in a place like this. How cool would I look if I ordered something chic like a flat white or a cortado? I would love to order a drink that I would only trust someone with a nose piercing or colored hair to make, but I always end up just getting a black coffee. A straight black coffee just makes me feel so beast. It feels like smoking a Marlboro Red. It feels like running 6 miles on an empty stomach. It feels like raw dogging a 7 hour flight with no movie, music, or wifi. It's just a win to start the day. I was slightly perturbed when a small black coffee cost me $4.15, but I guess life as whole is just getting more expensive. I'd expect this in NYC, but in Chi? Damn. All good though. I sat outside sipping my delicious black coffee in a white button down with the sleeves rolled up while performatively reading Dostoevsky, fully maxing out my aura points for the week. The Wormhole blew me away. This was my second time coming, and honestly, it's still the same as my last visit more than 10 years ago. Pure 80's nostalgia, the place is covered in movie posters everywhere and even a real DeLorean from Back to the Future 2 in the back. You could spend hours just exploring the decor from every corner and still find something new. The staff was awesome too, really friendly and down to chat while you're there. I started my morning with a hot chocolate and a chocolate croissant. The croissant was flaky, crispy, but still soft inside, and dipping it into the hot chocolate... wow, just hits different. The hot chocolate itself was smooth, creamy, and rich, the perfect combo with the croissant. Honestly, this place is more than a coffee shop. One of my favorite coffee shops! It's almost always busy, so I wouldn't recommend coming if loud environments aren't your thing, but I absolutely love the vibe here. The decor is classic and cozy, and the coffee is genuinely excellent. I also love doing work here with their community tables. I usually don't like my lattes too sweet, but they nail the balance and flavor combinations every time. It is a bit sweet overall, but I'm not bothered by it? They really balance the flavor combinations really well, especially with the ghostly trio! Despite how busy it gets, the service is surprisingly quick, and somehow every drink still comes out consistently great. I honestly don't know how they manage it. read more

They serve up their own coffee beans,Halfwit, serving up coffee concoctions of their blends and single origins drinks. Drip coffee was good but I enjoyed the 80's relics a bit more. Star Wars, Super Mario, Ghostbusters, Gremlins... Don't spill your coffee on those Gremlins! They'll go wild on you. Worth a visit if you're in Wicker Park. read more

My go to coffee shop. I come here for one of their signature lattes: ghostly trio with oat. It's a quirky neighborhood spot that's decked out in Back to The Future paraphernalia. Despite the curated theme, there's a good mix of wicker "hipsters", young families, friends catching up and professionals working away on their laptops with earbuds in. Great staff who know their regulars. Amazing art displayed at the front. Homey, local coffee shop vibes that are lacking from most of the generic coffee shops that pop up. Everywhere I live, whatever the season, I'll always be excited for a ghostly trio (and even willing to wait in line for it). read more

Love this place already ! They have bottomless coffee and it was slapped. The staff was kind and informative, they suggested the bottomless drip and I really appreciated that bc I was going to order one and call It a day. We were kicking around the neighborhood the other day when visiting Chicago and I needed a coffee real bad. I did a quick search and found I was literally standing next door to Wormhole. Score. Speaking of doors, the line was out of it. Very popular, obviously. But it moved along at a nice clip. Once inside I admired all the 80s themed decor, suddenly aware of my age as all the pop culture from my childhood was displayed on the walls. Fun to reminisce but also slightly distressing realizing it was all now considered retro. (Kidding! Kind of). I ordered a cold brew with vanilla and a bit of room for cream. An uncomplicated order that was handed to me in no time. The cold brew was great. Smooth. Just how I like it. Service was brisk but friendly. The music was also right up my alley, Teenage Fanclub into James. 20 odd years ago when I lived in Chicago for college my Brit music obsessed self would have absolutely posted up here on the regular. Though I would have definitely needed exercise patience finding a seat. There's plenty of tables here but on a Friday afternoon nearly all the spots were taken, so if you're looking to post up here you may have to wait a minute. Me? My coffee was to go. I added my creamer next to an old computer I recognized as a smaller version of the kind I learned to type on in elementary school. The guy behind the counter was helpful in directi g me on what I wanted. The barista was pleasant when she brought it to me. Noticed that, great job. Super cool video game retro decor. They have a whole used car at the back of the store too! It was packed on a Saturday, though our order did come out within 10-15 minutes. I got the honey bear latte decaf with soy, which is a regular latte with a strong scent of honey. Really liked that the decaf tasted just like regular coffee! The inside is pretty cool and there's a decent amount of seating. I like the unique flavor options. I ordered the Iced Ghostly Trio with whole milk and thought it wasn't overly sweet- the miso flavor was probably the strongest. My friend got the same drink but with oat milk and it def made the sesame flavor a bit stronger. But I think the baristas eye the measurements for each flavor. Walked into Wormhole Coffee and immediately felt like I'd been transported to another era--mainly because there's literally a Back to the Future DeLorean sitting inside. Such a cool touch that makes the space instantly memorable. The vibe is exactly what I needed for a study session. The music wasn't overwhelming, conversations stayed at a nice buzz, and the layout has plenty of seating for solo work or group hangouts.
