Whenever I make a trip to Galleria for good, I usually default to People's Organic, but today for lunch I decided on Good Earth with my mom. And I'm not mad about it! A lot of good stuff in this menu that made for some hard decisions. They also had a specials menu that had some really good items too. We ended up getting one of the specials which consisted of a cup of Wild Rice Soup, Cod (this was cooked perfectly. The outside was so crisp and the inside was nice and juicy) and it came with some black rice and black beans. The last thing it came with was your choice of a Gingerbread Cake or fruit. Those portions were pretty small (they mention that in the menu for this special) so we decided to split the nachos too. AMAZING!! We went with the vegetarian style (but I'm positive it'd be even greater with meat loaded on top). This portion was so large. My mom & I couldn't finish it so we got a to go box. But it was so great. Hopefully, you're peeping this review just prior to entering the place. Because I want you to go, really, I just think it's important to set your salivary expectations a bit. Restaurants like Good Earth, of which there are comparatively few anywhere, seek a sort of culinary transcendence that ditches the bad (sodium, steak, sugar, cheesy greasy nugs) for the good (nuts, fish, whole grains, herbs); couple this with the fact that Minnesotans generally have no interest in spice whatsoever and, predictively, the results are more than a little bland. But there's nothing inherently wrong with that. So if you're anything like me, you'll need to sort of refocus, and remember that eating out can be enjoyable and very healthy, to boot. The sad reality of our Applebees existence is that we've lost an appreciation for the nuances of great cooking, and in this respect Good Earth delivers in spades. Inspired enchiladas (YouBetcha style), delicious wok veggies, wholesome curries and ho-hum sandwiches on great breads. And if you still feel the need to feed your dine out demons, there's a pretty decent beer list. It's only hops and malt and barley and water, after all. read more

The Good Earth sets a new bar for terrible customer service and questionable food. There was a period in my life when I worked in the Galleria. I managed a coffee shop there, and it was pure hell. I can personally attest to the fact that the Galleria is probably one of the single most challenging places on Earth to provide good customer service. The typical clientele tends to be entitled and often times unreasonable. Sorry Edina shoppers, it's true. I once had a customer pour a latter out onto the floor in front of one of my bewildered baristas, because it "wasn't made right." Seriously, there are some crazy ass customers at the Galleria. That said, there is no amount of service worker abuse or ludicrous customer behavior to account for the ridiculously bad service and rude attitude of the staff at the Good Earth. For whatever reason (probably because they live really close) my girlfriend's grandmother and her husband love the Good Earth and offered to take us there for dinner. We arrived a few minutes prior to our reservation, checked in, and were given a buzzer to alert us when our table would be ready. We sat patiently on the bench facing the entry of the restaurant, but the buzzer never went off. As time passed it seemed odd that we had to wait, especially considering the fact that we had made our reservations days before and could see many open tables available. After waiting over 30 minutes, we checked back with the hostess, who nonchalantly claimed that there must have been some confusion over our reservation. After another 10 minutes, we were seated. No apology. No complementary drinks for the mix up. Nothing. Once we were in the Good Earth, things did not get much better. The wait staff was inattentive and rude. They took a short tone with our elderly dinner mates. Water glasses were left unfilled. The food was an over-priced health food version of Perkins grub. There are many reasons why I will never willingly return to the Galleria, and among the top of the list is the Good Earth. read more

This is my absolute favorite breakfast spot in the south metro. Yes, the atmosphere of the Galleria is a little chi-chi, ritzy, whatever, and there's always some Chanel-wearing, pearl-sporting lady in capri pants around to give the stink-eye to a dreadlocked hippie like me, but overall, the breakfast is worth it. The nitrate-free bacon is the best bacon I've had anywhere, crispy and flavorful. The amazing bottomless cup of Good Earth tea, with its fragrance of cinnamon and spice, is irresistible to me even in the hottest of weather. And that brioche french toast! Ohh, my mouth waters just thinking of it. And of course you can have REAL maple syrup (as opposed to the corn-based stuff you're stuck with at most places) if you're willing to pay an extra $2. Overall, this is not an expensive breakfast. You can get eggs, meat, and that wonderful french toast on weekday mornings for only $7.25. The service is a little spotty at this location, and it's not quite as comfortable as the Roseville Good Earth. But still, the food is great and the experience is consistently above average, so we'll probably keep coming back again and again. read more

Ahh brunch...one of those confusing times between breakfast and lunch...only to be called brunch in an attempt to make everyone happy. I recently made a trip to Good Earth with a few others and had high expectations, as i was told this fine establishment was pretty killer - it's in the Galleria, so it's uber fancy, RIGHT?! As per the usual, there was a wait (~20 minutes at 11:30am on a Sunday); the great thing was we wandered the mall for a little and grabbed a coffee :-) We made our way back and were seated at a large round table (6 peeps total). The decor seemed a little dated, think circa 1990s, but seemed to work for this place. We asked for breakfast menus (were handed lunch) and included the classics like pancakes, omelettes and skillets. A couple different items appeared...which was the ability to make everything healthier (i.e. organic this, that and the other thing), for additional Benjamin's of course! The highlight seemed to be the juice options - for $5, you could get just about any juice mix combo plus a few kinds of protein, flax, wheat germ and the list goes on. I ended up getting the Good Earth Huevos - I'm a fan of breakfast huenovs and I'm sad to report that this one was 'okay'. I say that because it was simply that, 'okay'; nothing about it stated it was the best thing in the world. The ingredients were decent and the roja sauce wasn't too shabs, but it simply didn't wow me. If you're like me, and you are looking to eat what's good for your health / body but at the same time, want something delicious and not too pricey, then the Good Earth Restaurant is the place to be. The Good Earth Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. My favorite time to visit is breakfast. I would first like to point out that they serve the BEST breakfast. I had such a tough time picking what I wanted because everything sounded amazing, but I went along with the "Good Earth Huevos." It was basically two breakfast burritos served in whole wheat tortillas with eggs, cheese, guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. If you like festive food and if you like breakfast food, this is the dish to get! The service at The Good Earth is wonderful. They seem to hire the most down to [good] earth staff!... PUNny, yes? :) Anyways, another favorite of mine, is The Good Earth's organic oatmeal. The oats are slow-toasted to create a thick and rich texture. It fills your belly straight to satisfaction. The Good Earth Restaurant is a great place to go with family, friends, or even solo. My first time here, An early dinner before the NOA, Not Oprah Approved book club. I was there at an in between time around 3. I was kind of taken aback and in awe of this atmosphere, because I've been to Roseville so many time. It's like a shack compared to here. They still have the same good bread basket with really cool crackers and not enough hummus. She asked if I wanted one, it wasn't automatic. I got an iced tea for a change, just a black tea. I asked for the raw brown sugar, and she didn't even know they carried it. Service wasn't bad once she knew I was there and I was the only one in the section. I was still shocked by the chicness of the place, especially the patio, I didn't know what I felt like eating. I got the cashew melt, why? Because Dita said so. It was really good. I didn't go dog nuts like she does. I'm gonna hit that patio often this summer I know that much. read more

Be prepared for a little wait if you don't have reservations because Good Earth is a popular Edina dining spot for lunch and dinner. It draws the Galleria and Southdale crowd, so the place is alway hopping. That being said, once you get a table, settle in for a lovely time. The Good Earth Planet Burger (veggie burger) is my stand-by fave. It's full of nuts and veggies and I get it topped with grilled mushrooms and avacados. I love that they have brown rice for a side option and will always bring you some tamari to top it with. Be sure to check out their specials menu as well, as there is usually something seasonal and wonderful to be found. Their rissotos are awesome and often come with goodies like swiss chard. If you're thirsty, try one of their fresh squeezed lemonades. They are so refreshing and tart. They also have a nice little beer and wine seleciton that often features some organic options. Good Earth is by far my favorite dining spot when in the Edina area. It's fresh, healthy and so tasty! read more

My wife and I love this place! Fresh, organic, healthy; sure beats a fast food or chain restaurant! We're from Fargo, and aside from the local health food store we really don't have much in the way of organic food in town, let alone an entire restaurant that revolves around it! My wife had their Summer breakfast special, Sour Cream Pancakes w/ granola and mixed berries, along with an egg and a glass of raspberry lemonade. I had the Brioche French Toast, along with a side of Sweet Potato Hash and a glass of Strawberry Fields (strawberry, apple and orange juices). It was all amazing, and we actually felt really good about what we just ate, as opposed to the usual guilt trip that comes with us eating out on the weekends. If you're afraid to try this place because it's "healthy", stop being scared and give it a try; I guarantee the only thing you'll be sorry about is that you didn't eat here sooner! read more

In general, Good Earth serves high quality meals that are very pleasant and enjoyable. Their breakfasts are great, lunches are tasty, and dinner menu is always creative. I love the patio and their location. I'm not a vegetarian, but their non-meat options have always been satisfying even to me. We were doing some shopping at Southdale and needed lunch. The restaurants at Southdale didn't appeal to us so we headed to the Galleria. At first we were thinking Crave but to be honest I was not thrilled about that idea. So we went to Good Earth. I had not been before but I have their tea in my cupboard. The restaurant is simple. We were seated quickly since we didn't care if we were inside or outside. Our server was very friendly. I ordered the Thai chicken wrap. It was very good and big. I ended up taking some home. P ordered the Make it Your Own. You get soup or salad, a main course, and dessert - choice of fruit or chocolate brownie. He had the corn chowder and after finishing quickly looked at me and said "Oh I should have offered you a taste." DUH :-) He than had the Mahi Mahi which he said was very good. Now P is very healthy conscious so he opted for the fruit. I did frown hoping to have some of the chocolate. Overall we very happy with the food and experience. I have to say it is the first restaurant I have been where the waitstaff don't look like they stepped out of a GAP ad. Real people serving real food. read more

Despite the less than pleasant reviews for this place I decided to give it a shot for a fun Tuesday night with a friend. I have a hard time assigning a particular number of starts because the experience was inconsistent. Yay! 1. The server brought treats and activities for my almost 1 year old son. 2. The bread basket came with hummus, awesome! 3. My Teriyaki chicken was fantastic. 4. The prices were very reasonable, its hard to find organic food for such a low price. I believe my total including tip was $16! Boo! 1.My friend and I were seated ahead of 3 waiting groups, not sure why but that seemed weird for them, great for me. 2. The server took forever to take our order. 3. My broccoli was cold and the stems looked raw. When I sent it back I think they just heated up the entire plate because my sweet potatoes came back so hot they burned my mouth. :( So I averaged it out to a generous 3 stars. read more

I decided to go here with a few of my friends on a Sunday around 11:30am. When we got there, there was a wait of about 15 minutes, but there were tons of open tables visible...? That was weird to me. When we got seated, we didn't get the bread basket until well after we ordered our food. The bread basket was a mix of pita chips and different breads, but the hummus was really good! I ordered a grilled shrimp pita and the Power Plus natural shake (carob powder, banana, nuts and coconut). The grilled shrimp pita was delicious! The Power Plus natural shake was good, but I would recommend splitting it with someone because they bring you a full tall glass of it, and also another full cup of the leftovers (similar to a usual shake place). The one thing I didn't like about the shake was that the nuts weren't blended... there were tons of nuts and raisins sitting at the bottom of the shake. Why weren't raisins listed in the description, too? haha. My friend ordered a Mediterranean Salad - if you want to order this, be aware that it isn't assembled! There were full lettuce pieces that you have to cut, and all toppings were separated, so you need to cut up everything and mix it yourself (just a tip). She liked it, though! Also, my other friend ordered a side of eggs, and I kid you not, it was literally the size of a quarter. Miniature. SO SMALL. We all couldn't stop laughing at it! Overall, I loved my entree! The shake was good, but I would try something different because of the unblended nuts and raisins at the bottom - I have heard most of them are good. On a business trip in Minneapolis, I got takeout from Good Earth, and now I want to go there to see and experience the restaurant. The veggie pita was fabulous, filled with crisp, fresh vegetables and large chunks of grilled portabella mushroom. In addition to the veggie wrap, I got the "heart beet" juice, a juice with red beets and a couple other veggies. I've had the turkey sliders and chicken salad sandwich and both were very tastey. We had reservations when we went which is recommended on a weekend night. It gets very very busy. All the staff are friendly and pleasant for the most part. I'm excited about this place because I'm trying to eat healthier but I love going out and finding new restaurants and eating the worst possible crap I can. I really feel a sense of ease knowing that they are only cooking with the freshest and most natural foods that a restaurant can. I used to work in the Galleria and, every so often, the urge would strike for a Good Earth cookie and drink (or maybe some of their frozen yogurt.) I'd walk through the mall to their take-out area only to be met with the most out-of-control line ever. The place didn't even need to be that busy - there is no clear cut way to even form the line, so it would just be a mass of people standing around waiting for help. If people DID try to form a line, some old Edina bitty would just walk up to the registers and be helped right away. Needless to say, I would just walk away without getting things most of the time. If a business doesn't care enough to buy something as simple as a rope to control the lines and the employees just plain don't give a shit then, whatever, Starbucks is just down the hall. read more

Atmosphere: comfortable indoor & outdoor seating. Outdoor scenery overlooks parking lot but is decorated nicely with lots of flowers. Service: friendly & attentive. Server even asked me if I would like a to go cup for my green iced tea which was awesome. Food: Organic. Excellent & tasty options for carnivores & herbivores. 3.5 Stars. I used to be such a fan of this place - homemade lemonade, fresh ingredients, cute patio. But seriously they NEED to address their service issues. The last 3 times I've visited it has been painfully slow - like 1.5 hours to eat lunch the other day...boo! On a good note - I love their "just for you" section on the menu where you get a soup or salad, fresh entree that seems to change weekly (I had ahi tuna with a cucumber and tomato salad - you get to pick from 2) and then a dessert. As much as I like to snub my nose at "green" restaurants that target a cultured, upper-middle class clientele, I have to admit: this place is pretty good. The portion sizes are reasonable given the price you pay, and the food is very tasty. Where else can I get a generous serving of buffalo or rainbow trout under $20 in a swanky setting? Three other things I liked: (1) The bread basket with hummus -- Unlimited refills! But, of course, being a sustainable restaurant, the servers won't bring you the basket unless you ask. I've tasted two dishes at this place, the Thia Chicken Noodles and the Chicken Curry. Both were delicious but I must say that the Thia Chicken Noodles were full of spicy awesome! I was impressed and surprised by the prices at this restaurant due to the fact that everything is wholesome and natural. The only thing I would like to see are larger portions. Honestly, I'd pay a couple bucks more just to see a larger dish! I have seen quite a few complaints about the quality of service. I can say we didn't experience that. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The only downside to this restaurant is that it took a good 20 minutes to get our food. It looks like a chain restaurant, feels like a chain restaurant, but tastes like a moderately upscale health restaurant. I love the menu. So many options and the majority of them you can feel good about. The menu changes with the season and they also note what their feature produce are and the farm's that provide it. For being in the suburbs and offering fresh, local ingredients, the menu is surprisingly well-priced. They have a "Tender Prices for Tough Times" section on the menu that notes their daily specials. On Monday nights (when we went) they have $10 bottles of wine. And not just a cheap white or cheap red, but multiple choices for both white and red. The bottle of Merlot we had was velvety smooth and went well with all the food. I probably got the least healthy item on the healthy menu, the summer gnocchi. They seem to always do a good job with their seasonal gnocchis and risottos. The gnocchi had a very light cream sauce and the "seasonal" produce were grilled asparagus, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms and peas. I'm not sure those are all summer, but the pasta was delicious and savory nonetheless. Even if it was the unhealthiest thing on a healthy restaurant's menu. Last, but certainly not least, the heiroom tomato flatbread. I know what you're thinking- been there done that. But this is unlike the typical tomato/mozzarella/flat-bready things you've been eating all summer. Two things: sun dried tomato pesto and mozzarella made from nearby Mozza Mia. It is crunchy, savory, salty, fresh and gooey. The arugula didn't hurt either. The downside: the atmosphere/decór. If they ditched the big plastic menus and exchanged their fabric booths for bistro-like tables it would feel a lot cooler than their current Denny's-esqueness. Eat outside if you can. I'm sure when it first started, organic was unique and they filled a niche in the market, but now they aren't anything special or even exceptionally good. The Good Earth will provide you with an adequate meal. Nothing amazing, nothing terrible - just middle of the road. Don't get the Salmon - extremely dry and under-seasoned. Also, none of their appetizers are worth ordering. However, most of their sandwiches (and salads!) are good, especially the bison burger. They also pour a generous glass of wine, which is very much appreciated. Good Earth is healthy food done RIGHT at its best. I have been here several times and it never disappoints. This place has a good vibe with friendly servers and a menu that just won't quit. It's perfect for large groups, brunch or a date night. Plus the price point is super reasonable. The biggest challenge at Good Earth is how to best narrow down your choice to only one thing. Go for: Thai Chicken Flatbread, Grilled Salmon, Veggie Burger, Turkey Meatloaf or if you are feeling really healthy the Wok Veggies are a great portion! Avoid: Nothing! Alright, the review I am about to write is not representative of all my experiences at this restaurant... However, my most recent time here was very disappointing. Let's start off by describing the good things. This restaurant is known for its organic, healthy food and assortment of various delicious teas. This is the main reason that keeps me coming back for more and will continue to keep me coming back even after receiving horrible service two days ago. When we arrived as a group of 6, we were told that there would be a wait of about 30 minutes which was understandable since we did not have a reservation. We waited patiently until they were ready to seat us. When we were brought to our table outside, we sat down and waited for our server. As a former server myself, I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was busy and it might take a little extra time to greet us. After about 12 minutes, we were greeted and our drink order was taken along with a promise of some water for the group. Our waters did not come for at least another 12-15 minutes, and our ordered drinks were not delivered with them. I understand that hot tea is one of the most high-maintanence drinks for a server but at a place that is known for their specialty teas, you would think that they would not take 20-25 minutes to be delivered. When our waters were delivered, most of us were ready to order our food but the server just delivered the waters and left the table before we could even start. After the drinks were delivered (without any bread to hold us over during the wait and with the hot tea being spilt on the table and my hand), we ordered our food. Being as thirsty as we were outside in the 80 degree sunlight that Minnesota had on Sunday, we drank our water quite rapidly at first. Then we realized that water refills would not happen until the food was delivered.... Without water refills or some bread to help our stomaches prepare for the wait (and to help my diabetic dad calm his shakes), everything leading up to the entree was very disappointing. Luckily, our family was celebrating my brother's birthday and had something to distract us from the terrible service that we received from this server. Not once was it acknowledged that the wait was long, the food would take some time, the drinks were coming shortly, or any other type of PR work done to remedy the situation. This all could have come from an inexperienced server, but I came to this restaurant expecting a lot more than what we received. It has a bit of a hippie vibe, which is not really my thing, but it seems like a good spot. My coworker had been here before and recommended the tuna, which I decided to try. I figure if a Seattle pescetarian recommends fish in Minneapolis, it might be worth a shot. He did specifically recommend, however, that I order it very rare, as otherwise it might be overdone. I went with a sort of asian inspired tuna, in a soy ginger glaze, and with a few peapods and other veggies along side. He was right - I ordered it seared/rare, but it came out a little more done, although still pretty good. Unfortunately, his came out way over done. I think it's a bit overpriced. Sure, it's in the Galleria...but come on! The greek salad was good, but not that good. I wish they had a larger vegetarian soup selection. I didn't drink it, but the lemonade looked good. I drank the coffee, and I was very pleased. Call ahead to put your name on the list if you're going. read more
