Extremely helpful staff. I came in looking for some beginner information on Warhammer 40K. The assistant manager Bill not only gave me an in depth lore intro, but introduced me to starter kits and got me connected to a discord channel of 40K players. Long overdue review for the best game shop in Chi. I cannot emphasize how delightful staff is. From the entrenched mtg player of two decades all the way to grandma looking for those Pokémans her grandson loves so much, these employees treat everyone with the utmost respect. My son's birthday was in the middle of the COVID-19 shut down, he is a HUGE 40K fan. I was not certain if the store would be open, so I emailed them. The Manager was absolutely wonderful, he set-up a time for me to come in. I went to the shop and was allowed to peruse through the items, while Craig made awesome suggestions... As I was way out of my depth. I literally walked out of there almost $200 poorer, but my son was ecstatic during his birthday. Everything from models to paint were spot-on! This is a really fun place right in the heart of Lincoln Park. The people here are friendly, and they have devoted a large amount of space for gaming. Whether you like board games or magic the gathering or Pokémon this is the place for you. Just make their small size, they have a great selection of items. If you play dungeons and dragons or other role-playing games or collectible card games is your thing they have singles and a great selection. They also sell some snacks and have a nice cooler with different ice cold items for you to drink. This is my go to shop in the city, I really like it there. Long overdue review for Good Games. It's a fantastic store with a big selection of games for people of all ages. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I can't tell you how many times I've been in the store and overheard Craig or another staff member helping a customer find the perfect game. They go out of their way to listen and provide insightful recommendations. On top of that, the store is extremely clean and the tournaments are very well organized. One of the best examples of how Good Games treats its customers came just the other day. I popped in and to my shock I saw an extremely sought after box of Pokemon cards on the shelf. Although Craig easily could have charged much more for it (and no doubt there are people who would have paid it), he sold it to me for retail/MSRP. I've since seen the same box of cards in two other local shops asking 3x the MSRP! So thank you, Good Games, for not price gouging your customers and for being the best local gaming store in Chicago! read more

Stopped in to Good Games Chicago to pick up a few gifts. I didn't have a specific list of games, but rather knew I wanted some two player board games with a mix of strategy and maybe some easier to learn party games. Let me tell you- Craig is freaking amazing! He was super helpful and gave me some great recommendations. He walked me around to a few different games that he felt would fit my criteria. His passion and expertise is very apparent however he was also patient and not pushy or salesy at all. I'd much rather support a business where the staff is genuine, engaged, and knows the product than support a Target or Walmart. This is a fantastic Friendly Local Game Store (FLGS). I came in 4 years ago looking for a gift and came out with a new hobby to share with my daughter. The employees are very helpful and their recommendations have always been spot on. We still play the games I bought on that first trip and continue to find exciting new ones as we progress toward more complex games. You might find cheaper prices on Amazon but the couple bucks extra goes to support an important community resource. read more

Winter is coming which, for me, means board game season. Good Games opened up just in time! They've got a great selection of games for both kids and adults. Everything from two-person collaborative games, to games for large groups, to puzzles, to everything you could want for Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, etc. This is a good spot for both serious and casual gamers, and is not intimidating or snobby to novices the way some game shops can be. They have a big room in back where you can bring your own games to play or test out games in-store before you buy them. They also have several gaming events, especially for Magic. I'm hoping they'll add more events to the calendar, especially as it gets colder and indoor activity season officially sets in. Welcome to the neighborhood! read more

What a great store! Location is great as it's between the Fullerton and Armitage stop. Five Guys and Pequods in walking distance. The store is really clean which is a big deal. They have a bunch of games. Most of the games are what you'd expect to find in most game stores so if you're maybe looking for a more niche or smaller release game it might not be there. I'm sure they can order and hold it for you though. Along with just games they sell a bunch of TCGs. Magic, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Destiny, and Dragonball Z from what I could remember. They sell all kinds of TCG accessories also. Sleeves, deckboxes, playmats you name it. They are also one of the only places I've found that consistently get Ultimate Guard products in which is a big bonus for me as that's my favorite brand. They sell Magic singles but I haven't seen singles for any other games. They also have a sweet rewards program where you get 5% back I believe. The back of the store is a giant room with more than a dozen tables that fit 6 players each. Here is where they hold their MTG tournaments and whatnot. It's also just a great play space for playing board games. They have plenty of games in the back to demo. The tables are clean and even have playmats on them which I appreciate. Actually, the whole store is really clean. They're pretty new so time will tell but right now they're doing a really good job of keeping it tidy. Another bonus is they have 2 bathrooms which is good for when there are 30 or so people in the back playing games. Bathrooms are also kept pretty clean. I only have two minor issues. The prices for some stuff seems a smidge higher than other game stores but that's fairly minor. For instance I think Dragonshield sleeves are like a dollar more here than anywhere else I've seen. Location might be the cause of that though. I can't imagine LP being cheap so I'm willing to pay a slightly higher premium if the store remains as great as it is now. The second issue I have is that their singles aren't priced which seems to be the industry standard now as the singles market moves to fluidly to make that reasonable. It'd be nice if they had a tablet or computer to look up prices ourselves though. Regardless, I'm hoping to make this my new FLGS as my old one recently closed. I'm really hoping they get their WPN up soon so they can do Pre-releases and other events. read more

Just headed in to pick up a board game for 2 to 6 people. I am not typically one to play board games but we wanted to try one out. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable and set us up with a great recommendation for "Splendor". Can't wait to play it tonight. Highly recommend heading over here and checking it out.
