I would probably rank this closer to 4.5 stars, but everyone was so nice that I bumped it up to five. Perfect way to spend a rainy Sunday! I appreciated the huge game selection and overall it was a chill vibe. I recommend reserving your spot though - we didn't and got bumped after two hours. We had a waitress give us a ten minutes heads up, but I wish she would have given us the option to close out our tab at that moment. We sort of were rushed along for the new group (totally fair!) but it was unclear how to close the tab. I called back later to close mine out and there was a 20% fee added to it. Yes, the place can be a little pricey and I am not sure if they allow outside food/drink. I wouldn't recommend their lattes since there are so many better options for the same price in the area. Great concept, but no passion. I made a reservation for 3 and one of my friends was running late. They confirmed that it's 3 of us yet gave us two cups and eating utensils. We had to constantly signal someone down to ask for things because no one was checking in on us for what we needed when our food was served. For the 3 hours we were there, we were only checked in on.... twice. The food was okay. My flatbread was burnt. Not sure why they served it to us still? As for the bathrooms, they are far. You go down two flights of stairs and a hallway. The women's bathroom was warm, smelled bad and was dark with an eerie yellow light. I don't like that the bathrooms are far, yet there are no hand wipes at the table so we can play games with clean hands. I went to the bathroom four times just to wash my hands. Came here for an impromptu date with my boyfriend and ended up having a really fun time. They have a huge selection of games, which is great, but it can also be a bit overwhelming. I wasn't sure what to pick, and while they do have staff to help with games, it wasn't very clear who to ask. Better guidance or labeling for group sizes would help. The drinks were good, but the food was just okay. We ordered mozzarella sticks, and they weren't great pretty bland. I'd recommend eating before or after. Service was friendly, and the overall vibe was fun. I think this spot is even better with a group of three or more, but it still made for a nice, spontaneous date. I'd go back. The hostess for trivia is not a good fit. She is not literate and not an energetic person so the energy that trivia usually brings, wasn't there. ALSO, we ordered food and got sick from it. What a great spot! I'm a huge gamer, and I love tabletop games, so when I had the chance to check this place out with some friends I was super excited. The ambiance is fun - designed with decor to feel like a castle/fantasy place, with tables large enough to accommodate games. The centerpiece is the game vault. Walking into it was really cool, seeing all of the games organized by categories, and getting to chat with their game experts was helpful for learning about new games that would work for our group size. Part of the $7 per person game charge is that it covers having one of the game experts come over and get the group started on their game - reading through rule books is often the most laborious part of setting up and getting going with a new game, so having someone be able to skip that part and get us right into game play was worth it. The menu is a bit lacking. It's basically bar food, and the drinks are centered around alcohol (which I get, large profit margin). If you have some niche dietary requirements you may struggle here, I'd recommend looking over the menu before deciding if you want to plan to eat here. I can say the coffee is tasty, my partner had tea and enjoyed it, but if you're also not a drinker there isn't a whole lot for you, either. The food I did get (pretzel bites and a flatbread) was solid, so no complaints there from me. All in all, I do plan to go back sooner than later - it was great for finding new games! read more

There person working the Game Vault while we were there was fun to talk to, knowledgable and overall seemed excited about games. The prices are also reasonable, paying $7 per person for the game pass and if you'd like a bite or something to drink, it won't cost you an arm and a leg. One thing that stood out to me was their little shop where you can actually purchase brand new board games if you liked one that you tried. We did a walk-in late afternoon but you can also make reservations online. I got a Cinnamon Bun Latte which was really good! The games are in a little room that looked like a library. It was super cute and they had such a wide variety of games from your classic ones to new ones. The nice part is, if you get overwhelmed, there is also a "game librarian" who can help you pick one out based on what you like. We played 2 classic board games and got the chance to try 3 new ones! It is decently family friendly at some time so I would highly recommend coming here with your friends who have slightly older kids as a place to hang out. They also run a bunch of events weekly including Show and Tell for Grown Ups and Trivia Nights. Its a really cool looking place! If I were to say there is any downside, the food is very expensive for what you get. The drinks are also a little bit on the higher side too, but there is a very large cocktail menu so that is generally worth it. Still, the food and drinks are good and its fun. This was so much fun! A friend chose this for a birthday outing, and it was perfect. I never would have guessed based on the front of the facade how cool it was inside - totally themed out and HUGE. We sat in the backroom (group of eight with a reservation). My friend had done some leg work to narrow down the games to what she thought was best for the group, which was smart. Because the game vault has 800 games! It would have been a strategy game in and of itself to pick from that entire list. Ordering food and drinks was super easy with the QR code. It keeps your tab open so you can add to it throughout the night. Service was really fast. Food was good but not great, but let's be real - you're not here for the food. The game librarians were really helpful, circulating and making sure people had what they needed or knew how to play. Overall, this was a really cool experience. It's only $7 per person and you have access to so many games and I appreciated how organized they all were. The service was also good too and I liked how you can split the tab easily if you have a big group. However the food was so bad. We came around 6 pm on a Sunday night only to find that most things on the food menu were unavailable. The Caesar salad tasted like it was from a salad kit in the grocery store and the crispy chicken sandwich didn't look like the pictures and tasted burnt. The sweet potato fries were also soggy. They checked in on us, had such a breadth of knowledge on the games, were available to teach, and gave great choice suggestions for next time. We were able to get a seat on a Friday night even without a reservation at one of their picnic style tables. 2 hour time slots for busy nights but we were able to stay for 3. I can't get over the selection of games. They're broken up nicely into categories: staff picks, award winners, Chicago themed, classics, group/party, doubles, team vs the game, etc. The food was okay, nothing to write home about, but you're really here for the fun. Now this is such a fun hidden gem. I have walked past this a million times and never noticed in on the corner of western. When you enter you feel transported...the decoration and art inside is amazing. It looks like you're in the middle of a medieval European Esq town if that even is the right description. SUCH a great spot for date night or to come play games with friends. We ended up getting dinner and playing games. Game passes are $7 which isn't bad at all. The options of games are endless and all in pretty good condition. We played 3 games during our two hour time limit. We ordered the smash burger, chicken wings and drinks. This place is amazing! We went for a rare date night post having a baby and didn't know that we needed to make a reservation. We put our name on the list and sat at the bar until a table was ready. The employees and the manager were so kind and went above and beyond to make our first time special. The atmosphere is incredible, the food was delicious and there were plenty of great games. We've experienced a lot of rude customer service in Chicago on our rare days out and can't say how much it means to us to have these people go above and beyond for us even when they didn't have to. Been here a couple times now and really loved both experiences! The decor is so well done and the staff are all so friendly and helpful. I ordered a spiked hot chocolate (iced) with Baileys the first time and liked it so much I got another. The egg rolls and fries are great, but the feta dip I would not get again, it didn't really taste like feta. Overall though a great place and I can't wait to come back. read more
