I was fooled though. I decided to move her after her hairdresser, who we both have been using for years, went there to cut her hair and not only was her hair very dirty, I had called them 24 hours beforehand to ask that they wash her hair, she was in the bed and said to our hairdresser, "can't you cut her hair in the bed?" She said no and they did move her to the wheelchair. Then I was visiting her, which I did at least once a week, and she said she had to use the bathroom and the caregiver told her to go in her diaper. In front of me and the other residents. I was embarrassed for her and completely appalled. At that point, my rose covered glasses came off and I started to look for a new home. I found an house and her new hospice nurse greeted her there and found a huge pressure wound with open sores on her behind, just about to be infected. The new nurse also found that they didn't send all her medications and another medication of hers was missing 8 pills. My mother is almost 87 with a brain tumor among other things and has declined significantly in the last couple of months. How dare they treat her this way!

I visited several 'facilities', but my last stop was OP, and it was perfect. The staff were friendly, professional, and welcoming, not just to me but to my mom! We were embraced with their warmth, kindness and knowledge. My mother was a nurse, and her assessment of her care was, "They are excellent". In December of 2022, my mother-in- law fell and fractured her wrist. From the hospital, she was sent to rehab. She had trouble doing PT because her toe nails were long and painful. They needed to be clipped. The rehab would not clip her nails. The week before Christmas, on a Friday, she/I was given a 5 day notice of discharge. I immediately called Orchard Pointe-Surprise, and within 3 days, my mother in law was moved in and settled! She was cared for, loved on and treated with respect. The last six days of her life, staff members from administration, to caregivers, to transportation, and maintenance, came to pay their final respects and show me love and support. No place is perfect, but Orchard Pointe- Surprise was perfect for my family members. ~Eileen

There is so much JOY in the residents and the teams that work with them and there is a true sense of comradery, family and connection. As seniors age, mental and physical capacity may become diminished, but there is still so much spark in the residents I have worked with here and I truly believe it's because the teams working for the communities foster such a wonderful spirit of love and togetherness. They speak hopefully, lovingly and faithfully and it really reflects in the faces and eyes of those who live here. They are committed to loving the residents and you see it! I am not just saying this because I have worked with them for several years doing marketing photography, but because I truly do see a special difference in these communities. Heritage is truly top-notch and a place I've already started comfortably recommending to family friends, because I believe they have something truly special.

After months of watching staff turnover, temporary staff, and what I thought was a lack of empathy for their residents, I decided to move her. My search began again. I visited several facilities but could not find one I liked. Moonlight Manor, an assisted living facility with 10 residents in Surprise, was recommended to me. I met with April, one of the owners, and she gave me a tour. She took time to find out about my aunt and her specific needs. Each resident has their own room, bathroom, walk in closet, and patio. They even have a beauty salon. Home cooked meals every day with fresh fruit and vegetables. Both owners, April and Lizzy, and the entire staff have been wonderful. Sadly my aunt passed away recently. They could not have been more compassionate not only with my aunt, but also with our family. We were able to bring in hospice and stay with her in her room. My family will be forever grateful for the loving care my aunt received at Moonlight Manor.

From the beginning, I repeatedly raised concerns about finding her prescribed pills on the floor, but nothing was done until I reported the matter to her case manager, who then filed a complaint with the state. Following this, I was told they would create a care plan to prevent further issues. Shortly afterward, Director Korina Izaguirre called me in an aggressive manner, claiming the complaint alleged that facility was not giving my mother her pills--an inaccurate and misleading statement. I explained that I had reported finding multiple pills on the floor multiple times, which meant my mother was not receiving them properly. My mother has also experienced numerous falls, sometimes remaining on the floor for over five hours before staff found her sometimes. This was raised to Korina Izaguirre multiple times. Additionally, residents frequently wander into her room, sometimes getting into her bed. Most concerning, a male resident has repeatedly entered her room and engaged in inappropriate and unsanitary behavior, including urinating in her closet and in her trash can. My mother, who is unable to speak due to a stroke and has aphasia, has been visibly frightened by these incidents (which I have on camera) . Other residents, including one with a dog (which my mother fears), have also entered her room. After I emailed Korina to request a solution--particularly to keep the male resident away from my mother's room--she told me in person she "didn't know how to respond" because "it's memory care," then never followed up. When my sister emailed again, Korina scheduled a meeting with us and the case manager, where she was again aggressive. We expressed our concern for my mother's safety and for the safety of other residents, as the male resident wanders into other rooms as well. Korina ultimately stated that since she could not meet our "requirements" of keeping my mother safe, she was issuing a 30-day notice for her to leave, which I feel is retaliation for voicing my concerns. Basic safety and sanitation are not unreasonable expectations, and Korina's dismissive and unprofessional responses--especially regarding a male resident exposing himself in front of others--are unacceptable.
