While in the Lakewood Ranch area, Sarasota... We were looking for something "different ". Thanks to YELP, The Good Liquid Brewery popped up. In we went. Very pleasant, right on the lake with a great view. It was quite windy today, so we sat inside at the bar. Kayla was our Bartender. What a cheerful young lady. Very personable and attentive. As a Brewery, they offer a pretty good selection of beers, along with a full bar. Today, they were out of their Amber, so I ordered their Kolsch. Quite tasty. For food, we ordered the fish-n-chips to share. We weren't very hungry and this was perfect portion to share. AND, it was one of the best fish -n-chips we've had in a long time. Not at all greasy, firm fish and the fries were over the top !! Crispy outside and soft, fluffy inside. Coleslaw was flavorful with a lean towards vinegar, Not heavy mayo like in some places. We got visited by a friendly(?) local gator which was fun. Tough to find parking nearby so recommend parking wherever you can and walking over. We didn't try a lot of their beers but what we did try was fine but nothing that we thought was memorable. And if you're a brewery, your beers have to standout. It probably is a 3.5 star location. A family member recommended this place and it didn't disappoint. It was a bit chilly outside on the back patio with the breeze, but plenty of sunshine made it bearable. The scenic surroundings are certainly worth it. My party had 2 rambunctious kiddos, so being able to move around freely and spot nearby wildlife was helpful and enjoyable. Our server was friendly and accommodating. The food was really good. My Haymaker burger was cooked as specified, and I devoured the entire thing. My upgraded truffle fries wafted an intoxicating aroma when they arrived alongside my burger. I am a sucker for truffle anything, but sometimes the truffle flavor is lacking. Not the case here. My meal filled me up for the remainder of the day. The prices are reasonable, especially for being situated in a very trendy, somewhat upscale area. The interior is modern with a sociable vibe. We decided to celebrate Mother's Day a day early and selected Good Liquid Brewing, a reasonably priced place we had not been to before. It is located at Waterside, a popular newish area of shops and restaurants. The threat of rain worked in our favor as we were able to find parking without too much trouble. We had made a reservation so were seated as soon as we arrived. While the place didn't seem too busy when we got there, we learned there was a significant wait for a table by the time we left. We were all very happy with our food. I had their Stampede Burger, a sandwich that included bbq sauce and onion straws as well as the usual cheese, lettuce, and tomato. For my side instead of fries or their house salad, I asked if I could sub for their Caesar Salad. Absolutely, and there wasn't even an upcharge. The salad was great, nice size with lots of dressing, lots of parmesan cheese sprinkled on top. If lots of dressing isn't your thing, you should probably ask to go easy. The Stampede Burger was also excellent, it came on a soft brioche bun, there was a sweetness from the bbq sauce. It wasn't messy, I did expect a messier sandwich. I thought it was a little dry. If lots of bbq sauce is your thing, you should probably ask for more. Service was fun and helpful, the food only took about 12 minutes, paying was easy. read more

OMG. What happened to this place? I don't remember ever having such a bad restaurant experience here, and now I see why the place was almost empty at 6:30 pm. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a very friendly bartender, Kayla. She was polite, helpful with beer choices, and even offered a taste of one we were unsure about. Unfortunately, she was the only bright spot of the night. The menu is much smaller than I remember and has turned into extremely generic bar food. We ordered the Fried Cauliflower in Chili Sauce as an appetizer, shrimp tacos with a side of Brussels sprouts, and the Chicken Club sandwich with a side salad. After 30 minutes, our fried cauliflower finally arrived: soft and lukewarm. It was obvious it had been sitting in the window waiting to be run. Just a few minutes later, our tacos and chicken sandwich showed up, also barely warm. The shrimp tacos were about the same temperature as the "caulicrap" appetizer, and worse, the shrimp were not fully cooked, which was obvious from both color and texture. And no, neither taco was eaten! The Brussels sprouts were probably the best item on the table (and for an extra $6, they should be). The Chicken Club sandwich was extremely average and clearly had been sitting while they waited on the hot Brussels sprouts. The only thing served at the correct temperature was my side salad, which was at least nicely cold. Looking around, I wasn't surprised that we didn't see much food coming out of the kitchen. Operations were clearly a mess. Our bartender apologized for the cauliflower and said a manager would be right over. No one ever showed up. Kayla was running the bar, the service bar, bussing, and running her own food, and she was still a rock star. I actually felt bad for her having to work in a place so poorly run. Meanwhile, there were multiple hostesses standing around, focused only on their own narrow tasks. As a former restaurant operator, what angers me most is that there was no manager visible anywhere in the restaurant the entire time we were there. No one watching food quality, ticket times, guest comfort--nothing. It's very easy to see why this restaurant has gone downhill. To top it off, it was uncomfortably cold inside, another thing any attentive manager would have noticed and fixed. Overall, terrible execution, no leadership, and very disappointing food. I won't be back until there's evidence someone is actually managing this place. Maybe I am old school, but my mantra when I ran Restaurant operations was HOSPITALITY, defined by treating each customer as if they were a honored guest in my home! read more

The bartender said that other people complain about it too. I guess it's just one of their things. Great Beer, So So Food We were visiting family in Lakewood Ranch and felt like trying a few small plates and brews and Good Liquid has a primo location right on the lake so we gave it a try. The patio area is partially covered, looks out on a large freshwater lake and the view is great. I sampled their Berry Porter and found it to have too much berry flavor me so I went for the Milk Stout ($7.00 for 16 ounce tap). Very smooth and tasty - I really enjoyed it. My son had the Don't Feed The Gator IPA (same price). Light on the hops, also very tasty. As we wanted some lighter fare, we ordered Patty Melt Egg Rolls ($14.00) and BBQ Pork Nachos ($15.00) from the Appetizer menu. Our order came out fairly quickly. They take two egg rolls, filled with ground beef, cheddar cheese and some grilled onion, fry them to a crisp, cut them in half, and serve them with some 1000 Island dressing and shredded lettuce. The flavor was just OK and each of us could have one piece - basically 2-3 bites. The Nachos are a bit deceiving. They are presented on a large round platter with a very generous amount of tortilla chip triangles that provokes a WOW! The toppings on the other hand were skimpy. I think this platter had 1-2 scoops of their own beer cheese poured around the center of the chip pile. To me, the cheese tasted like the usual almost flavorless liquid nacho cheese served at ball parks. Maybe 20 pickled jalapeno slices on the entire order. We did see some corn kernels, a few diced tomatoes, don't remember seeing the black beans and the pulled bbq pork, while tasty, was a bit dry and the few pork shreds on top was just enough for the four of us to say we had some meat on the dish. And if there was a chipotle ranch drizzle over these chips, we didn't see it. I kicked up the flavor with some hot sauce. I have nachos often and these did nothing for any of us. Grouper was small portion and had very little blackening seasoning and was barely warm - seemed like it was sitting in the pickup window way too long. Fries were the best part of the meal. My wife had a salad - was average. Service was very slow. It was busy but looked like the servers were spread thin so had a hard time getting another beer or to get help with our food. There was a manager named Steven, and he suggested that I ask for my pizza a little extra crispy to add a nice crunch to it. I did as he suggested, and the pizza was absolutely perfect! The bartender, Jess, made a beautifully balanced blueberry mule. So bummed as this is the 3rd time for "non existent service". As locals to the area we aren't tourists , but this place sure loves to live under the idea that " they will be back one day ...." and " whatever, we have enough foot traffic, so hang out or take off, either way we don't really care". Everytime however , there is this generalized aloof "whatever" type attitude ( like want you would find from staff in a beach style sandwich shop "treat em'and street em'" ). No one was rude, they were however ( and always are) floating around with this blank stare and a "I could care less" to even take your order type 1000 yard blank look. As a former restauranteur, this type of coasting attitude is death to local repeat business and for prices this high for basic American fare you had better lock it in and show some gratitude and positivity for your repeat clients. Now the social media manager or service manager will say " it was Mothers Day", this is true; but your inside seating was roughly 30% , bar seat ( 5 people) and ( with reservations) your patio was at 65%----so that narrative isn't going to hold water. As my wife just said , "you know sometime it's worse to feel like you don't matter than people being rude. They always do that there" . It's been over a year since we first walked into Good Liquid. We moved to Fl almost a year ago and it is still my favorite place to eat. I am in love with their Bourbon Brussel Sprouts appetizer. No matter what I order, I have to do an order of their BBS!! I have had their Just a Cheeseburger & Black + Blue and both burgers were flavorful and yummy. My husband loves their Bolognese pasta. We both love the Salmon too. The Stir Fry is also great and I add chicken to mine. We are Cider Beer lovers and they offer a Blackberry Cider that is wonderful. Their outside seating on the lake is always a wonderful atmosphere for dining. Ceiling fans, roll down sun shades and table umbrellas are there for comfort. The inside has great seating too. The service is always on point. The manager, Mike, is hardworking, friendly, personable, and if you didn't know he was the manager, you'd never know. He cleans tables, checks on customers, delivers food, and gets his hands dirty like the rest of the staff. He is a down to earth guy who truly cares about the customers, employees and your experience as a whole. I've eaten here 4 or 5 times. It's always good not great. The service is a bit slow but to be completely fair every time I've gone they have been slammed. There are a lot of great looking options and I've tried a few. They are always good enough that I'm happy to come back. The food just isn't amazing my rice today was so over cooked it was mush. Left it on the plate. The reason for coming back is a fun atmosphere, good drinks and a really pretty view of a nice lake. I'll keep coming back and try to have more food pics next time. We visited Good Liquid Brewery for Christmas dinner and we absolutely loved it. First off- kudos to them for offering an option for Christmas dinner that was a casual option. My husband and I were looking for something that wasn't $80 per person and that included food we actually liked. Good Liquid offered a pre fixe menu which was a 3 course dinner for 2 for $60. That's a heck of a deal- but my husband and I were too excited to try other things on their menu and we aren't huge dessert people. We started off with some buffalo wings, I got the kitchen sink pizza and added hot honey on top (it was HUGE and delicious), my husband got a burger which he also loved. My husband had 2 of their beers and he enjoyed both, I tried a hazy ipa off the menu and it was also quite tasty. We were told as we were leaving that a staff member was late, however multiple wait staff were visibly hanging around the bar area on cell phones burning time. Frustrating experience to say the least, as there was zero transparency with whatever issues they were experiencing. What a fun new little stop on our way through Lakewood Ranch. We stopped for brunch and to try their beer, but unfortunately, they were out of the hazy IPA, and none of the others were very tasty. However, we had a great breakfast pizza and enjoyed the beautiful view and play area next door. This fast developing area will definitely become one of our favorites to visit - there is an ice cream shop and clothing boutiques right across the street and we were told that open containers are also allowed as you explore the area.
