I was quickly triaged and placed in the ER with a very caring RN by the name of Justin. He was very kind and personable. We talked about the USMC and sports. The bedside manner was exactly what patients need they aren't feeling well. Once I was admitted, I was brought up to Charlie 2 (Room C2227) and was under the care of RNs Kim Garno and Meg (not sure of her last name). Both of these women were caring and understanding. It became very evident that each of the nurses I encountered during my stay here LOVE their job. They care about people and want to be part of the healing process. This speaks volumes about the facility that is being operated here. I do hope that a copy of this is provided to each of the nurses I have named here and a copy is retained for the employee file. I know we are always so quick to say how things went bad or how we were mistreated. I can imagine how difficult it is to work with people who are in pain all the time. These nurses deserve recognition for their hard work and dedication to their patients. Feeling safe and cared for while under their care when one is at there most vulnerable is a huge thing. Respectfully, while I hope to keep my distance from your facility moving forward, I will recommend it. This is healthcare the makes a difference. Thank you for such a positive experience during a difficult time.

Further because there is absolutely no privacy except for the bathroom (which your roommate is allowed not to have to use), your roommate not only knows your date of birth and full name, which you say over and over to all the medical professionals who come in for various reasons, they get to hear all of your private medical consultations with your doctor, which the hospital assures me is perfectly acceptable. Yep. I was informed that HPPPA rules don't count in hospitals that are outdated. Further, you have to carefully watch everything they do. I had three separate issues where the attending doctor (one I never actually met in person- though the one Dr I met who wasn't actually my assigned doctor seemed competent) very obviously paid no attention what so ever to my chart and I had to send the nurse to ask them if they really wanted to (as one example) prescribe pills that one has to swallow with water to someone who is possibly not digesting anything and isn't supposed to be taking anything by mouth. (No, no they don't want to). I could go on. Bartow hospital and Braden hospital are somewhat close. Unless they can give you a single room so your private health information is not compromised I'd go to a different hospital.

We arrived first thing in the morning and went through security who directed us to where we needed to be. Once upstairs, I signed in and waited till I was called and then did the rest of the check-in. It was just a short wait before they called me and back and started getting things ready. I ended up waiting about three hours for my turn in the rotation and once they got me in everything went pretty quick they already had IV set in my arm and shaved the area they would be working on. I was awake for the procedure, but I was medicated and I got to watch part of it on the big screen of the doctor was using. The whole team did a great job and was professional throughout. Everything went really well and then I was sent for postop. I did spend a lot more time there than I thought I would, but there were things they had to be sure of, and the doctor had to sign off on my release at the end. The nursing staff kept me pretty well informed and checked on me continuously while I was there. When it was time to go, they went over all the care and procedures I would need and provided me with paperwork to cover everything. They also sent my new prescriptions to my pharmacy. If you needed an outpatient heart procedure here I can genuinely recommend them. I hope I don't have to come back for anything, but if I do, I know I will be well cared for.

I have NEVER given a 5* review to a hospital and I have been there and done that! But well deserve…read moredespite a few nuances. I am writing this review with the intention to follow-up with executive management on a very important issue that should be addressed in caring for elderly/disabled/autoimmune compromised patients. Let me make it clear that our national health system as a whole has yet to recognize the difficulties experienced by this population when admitted into a hospital setting and is fixed and grounded on predated standards and to recognize that "one size does not fit all." So, all and in all, this precursory review goes to staff and NOT policies, logistics and procedures overall. "For individuals with disabilities, hospitals must comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ensuring full and equal access to their facilities and programs. This includes making communication easily understood, ensuring physical accessibility, ..................and providing reasonable modifications of policies, practices, and procedures." From experience, and even when physicians determine these patients such as me need to be admitted to the hospital, we often find ourselves waiting for hours in pain and discomfort, not getting enough food or water, not moving around, not being helped to the bathroom, and not getting the kind of care doctors deem necessary. I had not eten from around 11:a.m. till Saturday around 9:00 a.m. I have major gastro issues. In my situation, I requested ADA accommodation at the onset on arrival at the ER. Not a single staff member it was to my surprise, was familiar with the term ADA or what accommodation entailed (providing reasonable modifications of policies, practices and procedurs). Not the lead nurse/charge nurse, doctor, no one! But I pulled it up on my phone so as to familiarize staff with what the law states and what I was asking for, none of which was out of the norm for my situation. Thanks to Ms. ShirleyAnn (RN) and the room nurse who last attended to me. The attending ER physician was exceptional. I am so sorry, some names escape me. I am a hard draw, so I had a few extra sticks. The first IV placed did not work.......nurse never realized right away. Second IV had to be placed. Only complaint I have on the actual ER floor was that buzzers for assistance were not being responded to. I had to actually call 3x to get the finished IV thing removed as blood was now pooling in it. That scared me, might not scare anyone else, but I had never experienced that. After several hours, I was transported to a room where I realized I would share with another patient a few feet from me. I explained to the nurse and lead nurse my situation and the accommodation request at the ER. They also were unaware and never heard of the term ADA Reasonable Accommodation (a practice across all businesses including hotels, housing, almost every aspect of life where individuals come in contact with service). Both were very kind, understanding and immediately worked diligently to move me to a room that was not shared and for that I am grateful and thankful. The transfer to another area resulted in a short-lived relationship with the initial staff and the new staff were excellent. My attending physician on 3rd floor exceptional. The morning (Saturday) staff was exceptional, professional, kind, understanding. I want to particularly ask that Nurse Chris be recognized for the best performance I have experienced in a hospital setting. Also, Patient Assistance lady s well. Kudos. Anyhow, too many meds at the same time for me with gastro has made be not too well. AS an advocate I am fully aware that the healthcare system in the U.S. is currently facing significant challenges in providing adequate care for elderly and disabled patients. A lack of training among healthcare providers and a bias towards treating disabled patients have led to a substandard level of care. This was not so here. Food gets a fail as correct orders never came. Fix that and the ADA issue and you're magnificent.

My observations are: Ashley, one of the night staff nurses provided exceptional care for me during my stay. I nominated her for a Daisy Award, so please give it to her as she earned it with kindness, attention to detail, answering any question which I had or offering to find out the answer she did not know. Please let your surgery prep nurses who worked my case my apologies and appreciation of their laughing to my answer of "Weenie Whacking" if I knew what procedure I was having. They also deserve a Daisy Award, as they made me very comfortable, as I was apprehensive before my implant procedure. The food was much better than I anticipated. I didn't give a 5 star review due to the following issues that concerned me: The base of the IV drip pole was filthy. I could see some liquid had been allowed to dry on it. It needed to be cleaned prior to having been brought to me. This led me a concern about sterility during my stay. The Hospitalist ordered every 4 hour blood work draws following a small sodium drop, but, the number was less than 10 points from the lowest ideal point. It might have been more efficient if they had bothered to step in and make an accurate decision on my needs rather than an action plan based on other's observations. Also, I suffer from seasonal allergies and requested ProAir to treat my slight wheezing and a check-in from the hospital's pulmonary staff. Neither the ProAir or the pulmonary staff member appeared. My domestic companion had to ask for my bandage to be changed as it was soaked with urine. We were both told that the doctor didn't like for "anyone to mess with his bandages" to which my companion (who is an RRT) replied, "He doesn't need to have a wet bandage on his open wounds..." The dayshift didn't keep us well informed as to our status during the discharge process. We had to ask when several times. All of this could have been due to training going on within the unit. I think if you fix these issues, you could have an excellent facility.

These are statements, facts, and claims regarding the work experience within the Florida Department…read moreof Health located in Bartow, Florida. Specifically, working in case investigations and contract tracing under the direction of section chief Scott Sjoblom and Jane Nelson. During the Covid-19 pandemic, spikes in case counts, hospitalizations, and deaths during June, 2020 and November 2020, it was the responsibility of case investigators, like myself, to conduct thorough, comprehensive, and quality interviews with persons under investigation (PUI's). In short, case investigators were tasked with completing phone calls and interviews throughout the day. A.) Management Managers / section chiefs Scott Sjoblom and Jane Nelson, were responsible for distributing cases to all investigators. On a daily basis the section chiefs were instructing investigators and tracers to complete a certain amount of PUI's a day. Depending on the cases being distributed to us(investigators), the workday would be made up of busy days and slow days (depending on cases being distributed to us). Performance evaluations were issued to me in an attempt to complete more cases daily. When asked about how to improve PUI interview processes or systems, section chiefs Scott and Jane were incapable of offering support or guidance without escalating my Emails to human resources. Daily evaluation reports were to be completed by investigators. These reports are currently one sided, biased, and unfair. They offer protection and cover for the mismanagement, misappropriation, and irresponsibility being implemented by the section chiefs. I experienced a "surprise attack" or what I consider to be a form of harassment around 10/1/20. In my evaluation report, I was blamed for mistakes and errors performed by both Scott and Jane. The fact that I started asking questions to the section chiefs is what prompted Scott to arrange a meeting with Human Resources. When asked about the reason for termination, Scott replied "combative". In reality, they were just questions which were incapable of being answered by the section chiefs. It's peculiar how when questions started being asked, the decision to terminate a temporary employee arose. C.) Work Environment Working within case investigation under the direction of Scott Sjoblom, the environment for conducting thorough, comprehensive, and quality PUI's did not exist. Investigators are rushed in a manner similar to a McDonald's production line making chicken nuggets as fast as possible. Regards for developing quality rapport, offering sound medical guidance, and abiding by cultural sensitivities were ignored by section chiefs. CDC guidelines and training recommendations for improving case investigations and contact tracing were ignored. Weekly meetings between section chiefs and investigators were often canceled. Any questions by email were escalated and classified as "insubordinate" by both Scott and Jane. Contact tracer and investigator burnout is high in Polk County with many employees just leaving the position. I have never experienced this form of management in larger, structured, and professional organizations throughout the country. Summary and Closing On 11/17/20, I agreed to attend a meeting with Scott Sjoblom, Patricia Mayid, and Deborah Hughes. In the meeting, I was instructed not to argue, debate, or ask questions. As expected, I received a termination document/ letter. The document does not state the reason for termination. The reason for termination was provided verbally by Scott Sjoblom as "performance" and "combative." There is no evidence of me being "combative" as all my communication is in written form and offers clear and concise language. They also include questions, and feedback. The document I have attached here should reflect the "performance" aspect of my work since I received the evaluation document from Scott Sjoblom around 10/1//20. As indicated by all my written emails to Scott, Jane, and my team lead, my performance was not in question at all. The records attached and the work performed by me is the same amount of work being distributed by Scott and Jane. From my perspective, it seems as though if a section chief does not like you, they can dismiss you for asking questions. Just for the record, my performance was not in question and is not the reason for termination.
