Summertime rolls...Jane's Addiction harmony in my head…read more On a holiday in the sun like Weezer in the lovely Pacific NW in the Summertime decided to do a yatra aka pilgrimage to People's Co-op. I lived walking distance from People's Co-op circa 2004 where I lived right across from the now defunct all vegan coffeeshop aka Red and Black. In 2004-2005 I was a working member cleaning the bulk bins as my seva aka service. This is where I first started teaching yoga at the community room upstairs at People's Co-op. Dusty started the program that sadly is no longer currently active. They had some great classes there and have fond memories of a Iyenger influenced yoga teacher that taught classes I liked. This was when I was teaching classical hatha yoga and had not yet shifted my yoga teaching to the Ashtanga Vinyasa tradition. Fast forward to the moment of Jun 20223. It's the return and went to People's Co-op. It still is an amazing place. They have a farmer's market here every Wed. Their bulk selection is amazing (see my photos) and so is there produce. Friendly and helpful staff. Afterwards go to Belmont for heaps of plant based, vegetable forward, tasty, amazing vegan restaurants and food trucks that are amazing. Vegan bars, vegan food trucks, innovative vegan restaurants like Fermenter, and more that will satisfy all folks who follow whatever diet from vegan to paleo to gluten-free to omnivore.

And they serve Phatt Dawgs on weekends -- as a hotdog aficionado I had to try it, and I was finally in the neighborhood at the right time. And of course hotdogs go well with beer, which is sold next door. The troubles are, these are dull, despite the cool name. And not especially healthy, despite the lack of meat. And too expensive for what they are. The dawg is served on a plain hotdog bun. The server recommended a dab of mayo to moisten it, and I went along. She also offered "any two sauces -- free!" But the sauce options are just regular commercial packets of mustard, ketchup, relish and sriracha. I chose the mustard and sriracha, and also purchased a package of Korean-BBQ-flavor vegan "cracklings" to go with it. None of that succeeded in brightening up the boring lunch. Couldn't a vegan grocery offer something more interesting for lunch? I know they are not a restaurant, can't do serious cooking. But at least open up a jar of sauerkraut and a couple of the hot sauces they sell, as condiments for the dawgs? Or even some fresh or sauteed peppers and onions? Or something? And the $6 price? I know business is tough and ingredients are expensive. But maybe make this a loss leader or an enticement to buy other items at the grocery store or the beer place? One dawg with every $20 purchase? I'm not trying to run the business for you but the way it is does not make me want to come back or recommend it. And I would like to like this place! I love the coffee beer place next door.

They'll have most of your basics covered, and it's in a clean, safe and friendly environment. Even with the park across the street going to hell, this is still a perfectly fine shopping experience. What prompted me to write a review in the first place was their wine selection. Maybe it's because of the neighborhood, but I was pleasantly surprised! I had expected to have to buy some bottom of the barrel bottle, but they had some decent selections! I mean, it's no fancy wine shop, but it's enough that I can gladly come here when in a pinch. You've got my attention, Natural Mart. And you'll likely get my monies, too.

The prices are great, not the usual mark-ups you see elsewhere and the owners are down to earth and very friendly. When you are there, don't forget to look for "the phrase that pays" and when you leave be sure to Yelp and you'll get a free bottle of water. The new and improved Westside Market is just be what the area needed.

The heavy double doors open into an isle decorated with Cheap embroidered hats, socks, glass cases lined knifes, tasers, and beautiful glass pipes. Aside from the impulse buy items, there is a expansive selection of items that you would be suprised to see in a corner store. The beer prices are cheap! Munchie prices are average. And despite the small language barrier, The staff is VERY helpful Sunny's Mini Mart is my favorite one-stop shop in the South Tablet neighborhood.

Certainly not at a conventional grocery store. They also sell all kinds of other international groceries like giant jars if dolmas, lavash, the best chocolate bars. I could go on and on. I have gotten sick from their seafood twice (they are always happy to give a refund, but somehow…read morethis seems inadequate after two nights of aching nausea). I recently suggested a friend get some grab and go there because she was in the area and only had a few minutes. She said she would not be doing that because she had gotten sick off their prepared food a few times (she did not mention seafood). Recently I bought some chocolate and it was nearly expired, had bloom, and did not have a good texture. While this is not a risk to my health, it's annoying! this place is so expensive and they can't seem to turn over food quickly enough to keep it fresh. The customer service is totally fine.
