I can literally spend hours here. Selections are unique. Pricier than other paper stores, but better quality, but I must say the cards, which are quietly amusing, are more reasonably priced then their competitors. When I left, I felt more relaxed, calm. I can lose myself here. read more

Stumbled upon this place as I was walking down W 8th St. and spent half an hour just looking around at all the beautiful things!! So many cool stationary sets and cards, beautiful pens, notebooks, pencil cases, and other office items. My favorite section was the greeting cards -- cards for birthdays, holidays, sympathy, thank you, New York-themed, etc. Prices are on the higher side, but you're paying for quality. Staff greeted me when I walked in, and everyone was friendly. This is the perfect place to go if you need a housewarming present, need any sort of greeting card or item for your office/study, or just want to browse. read more

Amazing: Precious selection of journals, writing instruments, writing and desk accessories and supplies, stationary, cards, bags, so much. Perfect place to gift shop for that writer or thoughtful person. Downside: Literally expect nothing from the people who work there if you want to have a pleasant shopping experience. Don't expect help, knowledge, courtesy, politeness, or I hate to say this but, common sense. 3 out of the 4 floor people were rude and/or purposefully unhelpful. I won't be coming back here. Great little stationary store. They have a large assortment of cards, pens, paper, notebooks, and lots more. You can definitely spend a while wondering around checking it all out. I came in looking at their cards in particular and they have a great selection for many occasions. A bit in the pricey side for a card but they are made with great quality and very different from the typical ones you find at drug stores. I shop here frequently due to convenience (it's less than a block from my office) knowing full well how overpriced it is. It would be one thing if they offered items that are unique and cannot be found anywhere else but they sell pens that you can find in Staples and asian stores like Muji or basically any Korean stationary store. You can literally buy every pen or pencil in there for $1-2 on 32nd street. They mark up their prices by 300%. Also can we talk about how rude some of their workers are? So definitely check this place out if you'd like to spend $10 on one pencil and if you like interacting with rude retailers! read more

Seriously my favorite store in New York. Carefully curated stationary with great customer service. I couldn't get over there, so I called and they found what I was looking for in their sale section, sent it to me for a reasonable price and I got it immediately. Rude retailers. The store is divided into two parts -- one for stationery, one for pens. Incredibly overpriced, though well-presented (you can find most everything here for literally a quarter of the price online). Tiny minimalist notebooks go for around $20. What really miffed me today, though, was that I casually asked for the most basic Pilot fountain pen (widely known as the Pilot Metropolitan). Pretty easy request, no? Instead, I got a 5-minute spiel about how they don't sell any Pilot pens that are under $150, and the teenaged retailer proceeded to present me with all the options $150 and above. I get that she probably was hoping to make commission, but there's no need to lie! As she talked, I noticed right behind the counter were two large jars of Pilot Metropolitan pens that I had not seen earlier, along with many mid-priced pens ranging from $30-$40. No mention at all of any of these options--instead, just blahblahblah about how the store only carries these amazing $150 options. read more

Fancy cards and notebooks. Only drawback is it's expensive but these beautiful selective items are worth it. Fun to just go in and look around. read more

This shop is very nice with some high quality stationary products that you can't often find elsewhere. It is quite expensive compared to other places or online, but there are still some more inexpensive options if you don't want the "designer" brands. Many people have commented about the staff being inattentive or disinterested, but while I was there they acted as typical retail workers and helped customers and had good manners. A cute place to look around and buy some little items or get ideas for things to buy in the future. read more

This place gives me immense joy. It's a beautifully curated, obsessively tidy, and peaceful store with products that range from affordable to quite expensive. Still, there's plenty of stuff in here that's normally priced despite the delightful setting. Fantastic selection all in one clean, well set space. Edit to the above review on 1/28/18 mid afternoon. Dropped from 5 to 3 stars simply because of staff. Careless and rude. Adorable little spot on an adorable little street right by NYU. I've recently become re-obsessed with stationary shops, but find that they just don't do them in the US like they do in Europe/the UK. Goods for the Study is about as close as they come though, with a wall of cute pens in labeled jars, notebooks for every/any occasion, and cards also for every/any occasion. I could honestly spend hours in there, feeling up every single notebook to find the one that speaks to me. I recommend stocking up on the brightly colored Maruai notebooks - only $4 each, made in Japan, and help you feel super organized. I'll probably regret telling everyone that later, as I plan on going back to buy more for myself. read more

Very very cool unique store. I love that they have so many typical office items that are from these unique companies. Lots of gorgeous pens and pencils, but they also have a beautiful selection of fine scissors, rulers, various desk organizers, letter openers, pencil cases, paper weights, clips and tacks, you name it. They have a fairly large selection of birthday /thank you and other cards but my only issue with their array is that they were all sort of pretty/serious/floral-y. I couldn't find any cute cards that had a little bit of humor or a joke in them. Anyway, it's an awesome store and it's absolutely GREAT for gifts! read more

I needed a new notebook, and happened to be in the neighborhood. While I didn't want to spend much on one, I knew coming in here it would be on the pricier side. I get it- it's nice quality, a nice store. However, the customer service is seriously lacking. I asked the salesperson how much a notebook was, and with a look of disdain she took it from me opened the inside back and said $20. Meanwhile their price tags are 1/3 of the size of a postage stamp. As I was checking out, I was asked, "is this all?" And not even a thank you when we were done with the transaction. read more

This is one of my favorite stores of all time, but this review is specifically for Maddie Jones, who led the charge in getting my wedding invitations done. She is clearly an expert, and her attention to detail and followthrough helped put my mind at ease. While the invitations aren't cheap, they are GORGEOUS, and Maddie's patience and knowledge helped get them that way. Well stocked shop on a quiet street for all of your high class stationery needs. They seem to stock a lot of Japanese products mimicking faux-Euro styles. The interior is well presented, though products are a bit too pricy for me to consider shopping here with any regularity. read more

nice place with nice vibe and good stationaries. staff was a little rude and not helpful. i was looking for a pen and they flipped the whole store just to find it because he didn't want to climb the ladder and had someone else to do it instead.he wasn't apologetic about it and blamed it to other staff for not able to find things, and i ended up had to settle for the one displayed on the shelf. visited the west village shop twice over my trip, met different rude staff both times. At both times i was asking for the price of something as there weren't any tags on them, and they gave me the dirtiest look and the most sarcastic response about price tags inside the item before realising that they actually weren't. and again, not apologetic about it. They seem to care more about the song playing in the store as they had to change it before checking my items out at the counter, and i just stood there and waited longer. so overall experience was meh. store looked fantastic, but hospitality wise it was a big shame. read more

This started as a great store. I always like having a quality writing instrument handy and I could finally afford a really nice one. So I dropped in here and spent $100 on one. The clerk was very helpful and the pen was awesome. Then it needed a new ink cartridge and things changed... it began leaking an extraordinary amount of ink. I went through two cartridges in three days. This is a problem. I returned to the store, hoping someone there might be able to help identify the problem. The first couple of people I spoke to didn't know what might be causing it and they sent for a third who they said was a 'pen expert.' That person treated me the the single worst customer service I have ever been subjected to... to the point where I almost marched out after being told that I was just stuck with a leaky pen... a $100 leaky pen!!! Thankfully, the manager has more sense and tact. They allowed me to return the defective pen after trying to exchange it, but they couldn't find another. The apologies for that one clerk made it better, but unfortunately I don't think I will ever shop here again. Customer service is very important, and you should never treat the local residents as if they are not important. It's our business that keeps these places in business and they have lost mine. read more
