Cute shop in Greenpoint, Bklyn. It hosts a variety of stationery knickknacks that are slightly overpriced. I would recommend going for the pens as those are more or less comparable to art supply stores pricing. The staff are friendly and will aid you in choosing what you desire. I absolutely LOVE Yoseka Stationary. It's one of my most favorite stationary stores. It's such a chill, calming ambiance when you walk inside. The staff is so nice and helpful. There are plenty of pens, notebooks, fountain pen ink, it's an endless stationary heaven. It's awesome because you can try out all the pens they have and even test out fountain pen ink. I had so much fun testing out some pens, and swatching fountain pen ink. For fountain pen ink, they have organized binders for swatched ink, which is so helpful because there is so much to choose from! I could stay in that store forever. Ever since I discovered them through the stationery community, I have made it a to-go place every year on my annual New York family visit! Even though I can buy merch online, I like to go in for the vibes and to be able to see products in reality and interact with the products. Their store is on the smaller size so there are many products you won't be able to check out but they have the option of letting you place an online order and do store pickup. I recently found out that you can actually have them whip you up an ink sample of any ink and you can purchase it that way. This was harder on the website to do because I felt like a lot of ink samples I wanted specifically were out of stock. The staff are always of great help and friendly. I have purchased from Yoseka online multiple times over the years... and I recently moved a little closer so I made sure to visit Yoseka in person. I love their handwritten notes and suggestions as well as what they offer! That day came this past Saturday and I was so excited. It's located in Brooklyn - my first time in the area - and pretty easy to get to (with a transfer or two depending where in Manhattan you're coming from) with a 10 minute walk from the nearest subway station. We were there at around 1 pm and oh my goodness. So. Many. People. I heard this is their second - bigger - location. It was full to the brim. We went on our last day in the City so we had our backpacks on and bags (thankfully no luggage because that would have been impossible to maneuver). First off: the shop is super cute and well thought out, but it's narrow (which I soon realized is the norm as we later visited a few other stores in the neighborhood). There are a set of stairs you take to go up so can't really say it's very accessible to those in wheelchairs unless there's a separate entrance I'm unaware of. Both walls display a lot of things and there are two more floating sections down the middle where you can test try pens. That gives you roughly 3 narrow "aisles" to walk through and there are a lot of things to browse. (There are slide out drawers underneath where you choose the pens once you've tested them out.) Most people stop and browse/test so there's a lot of traffic. I often saw a number of people go outside because there's just so many people. I ended up being one of these people (sorry, no photos because of this) because there's not much room especially with my backpack and it was getting too stuffy for me. (And I already made my online purchases so I was mostly here for the experience on this trip.) There are employees scattered around but they are super busy. However, if one is free, they are really helpful! I did spot Daisy at one point coming out from the back and then out across the street where there's a separate Yoseka area but isn't open to the public - it's a funny feeling spotting someone you "know" for so long in videos/clips but finally in person. It was a little bit of a shock that I couldn't even utter out a "hi" in time before she disappeared, haha. This is a smaller operation though they have expanded over the years. I love the personal touches and they take time packing your order. This does means there's a bit of a wait before it ships, especially if it's during busy season. The notes they write aren't as long as before though. They also have unique, fun items. The only thing is they don't seem to keep a lot in stock. New - especially popular items - don't stay in stock for long and it's not guaranteed they'll get them back again. Sad if it's something you really like and just somehow missed or want to restock. I am under the impression they reserve some items for only in store, so if you're nearby, always nice to try your luck! Items are priced okay. They do have a storefront to support. I hope to visit again someday - but definitely on a weekday. Also because my next visit will likely include my young kids plus husband who hates crowds even more than me and I just can't imagine how that would go. I only suggest perhaps limiting the amount of people inside at a time when it gets busy like some stores do. It would be a more pleasant experience inside especially for those traveling to be there and may also promote more sales. My friend didn't want to ask questions on a pen she was eyeing because there was just too many people. I am a writer so I really appreciate Yoseka and their amazing selection. This would be five stars if they were more responsive to communications about orders and faster on shipping. A store pickup option for online orders would be appreciated. Having notifications posted on the website when shipping times were delayed would be even better. Currently waiting for something that was sort of urgent and had to find out everything is delayed via a youtube video. Not ideal. I wanted to visit the shop because I saw it was a Traveler's Company partner shop. It has a unique partner shop stamp that's available to use for your journal when you ask a staff member. I thought it was so fun that they have a little area in the front to explore a few stamps, tapes, and pens on scratch paper. A few of the stamps got discolored but still worked fine. They also have a special collaboration refill with Traveler's Company, which is a unique green color with a gold image. There's a lot of stationary items like pens and inks to explore. It was a little crowded when I went, so I didn't take any photos. They were hosting a Hobonichi event across the street, so I'm not sure how busy they usually are on a Friday afternoon. I recently got back from a trip to Taiwan and didn't know what big stationery heads the Taiwanese were! The owner of this stationery shop grew up in a store much like this one in Taiwan and explains that in Asia, people's choices around their notebooks, planners, pens, and tape are all ultra specific and customized to their needs, which is why such a wide variety of planners and notebooks can be on offer in any individual stationery store. Unlike China, where they have a very cell phone and technology reliant economy, Taiwan still felt analog in many ways. Cash was still king, as credit card payments weren't widely accepted, and people did indeed seem to rely more on handwritten signs and notes than digital ones. Fascinating! So it was with this in mind that I browsed both Yoseka and stationery shops on my trip. I came away with a leather bound planner for my own bullet journaling and a much fancier one as a gift for my friend who recently graduated college. I want to preface this review by the fact I don't really use Yelp much anymore (hell, most of my reviews on here are practically written by 20's me and not almost 40 me, lol) since I more or less am a city girl living in the woods and no one out here uses Yelp unless you go into Philly like 45 min away. While I wish I could have gone in person (unfortunately they're a bit far from where my mother still lives), I have nothing but wonderful things to say about Yoseka from an online shopping perspective. They are really patient for people like me who change their mind 1000 times and will genuinely interact with you rather than the surface level politeness other places might do with customers. Working with Selena via email has been pretty great. They have a decent online selection with a variety of planners, pens and tape to pick from (among a bunch of other things) and they're pretty good at keeping customers in the loop about updates and events overall. I would say the free shipping threshold is a bit higher than I've seen elsewhere but they're also a small business so I get it. Especially considering how popular they are online. They're always highly recommended in stationary groups on social media. But yeah it's not just hype. They're the real deal and I will continue using them for my stationary needs for the foreseeable future. Total side note to the business, your artists on staff do amazing art and design work. Excellent spot for all things pens and pencils. There is literally so much to sample that you could easily stand by the center console and knock yourself out trying everything they have out available for you to doodle and dribble with. I came by here for some hobonichi supplies and due to the recent demand there's sadly not much available in stock. I was also disheartened to learn that their online store stock does not reflect in the physical store, which was a bit disappointing. They offer so many varieties of stationary here, although the space is not huge. It is still packed with lots of variety--from notebooks, to stickers, to washi tape, water color and ink options, etc--to the moon and back. They definitely take advantage of their space. Staff are friendly and I've most of the time walked away with something new I didn't come in planning to buy! (Lazy Sooz stickers, highlighters, notebook clamps, glitter gel pens), etc. For stationary trinket aficionados, this is your jam! read more

Very Disappointing Experience This was my first time ordering from Yoseka, and it will definitely be my last. I reached out because the item I received didn't fit, but their only response was that they "can only accept returns for unopened items." How can a customer know if something fits without opening it? The product description was not clear, yet they refused to offer any refund or exchange simply because it was opened -- even though it wasn't damaged. Their customer service was cold, unhelpful, and inflexible. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they just repeated their policy. I've never experienced such poor service and a rigid return policy. Very disappointing. I do not recommend this store. read more

Here's the deal, a good company, that sells quality products. My problem is dealing with them if there is a problem. You can't call anyone for a more direct conversation, so you are stuck with email. They are not real prompt with email! There's at least 24 hours for a response. I will gladly do business with Yoseka again, I just hope there isn't a problem and there usually isn't. read more

Absolutely love stationary stores. Maybe it's the former teacher in me, but there's something about fresh pens and unused notepads and notebooks. What's even nicer about Yoseka Stationary is its unassuming location in Greenpoint. I also love that they give you a brand new pen instead of people using purchasing the floor models (I.e. like at Muji). There were so many different types of gel pens, regular pens, and quill pens to choose from as well as other pieces of stationary. Definitely coming back! read more

Yoseka Stationery is a Taiwanese stationery shop that carries a great selection of Japanese notebooks and organizers (if you like grids, this is the place!); they also have cards, erasers, stationery, pencils/pens, stamps, stickers, and washi tape. I loved that in the center, you can try out the different types of pens and their calligraphy pens - the price range is pretty wide, so you're bound to find something that is within your budget. This is definitely more of a 'sophisticated' stationery shop, and I loved their vintage decor and collections. What an extra ordinary place! My husband and I wanted to spend our Vday in Brooklyn yesterday and I saw this place on youtube. We stopped by here around 3pm. Yoseka had a Travelers Diner special event until 7pm that weekend. This shop was the highlight of our Brooklyn day! Upon entering the shop its already super crowded. The Travelers stamps were on the left. I was so ready with my 3 new years planners lol. I did not expect there was another station next to it - a whole sampling station?!?!? So many washis and stationary I've never seen before. My sister fully decorated a few pages of one of my planners. That's how many samples they let you try!!! Around the shop walls you'll see every section has its own theme: notebooks, cute stuff, a huge ink section I hear swatches is a thing. The center table has special paper, pens, highlighters, beginner fountain pens! There's a frixion pen I've been looking for. It's $8 at least else where. Here it's $3.50! I can't wait to come back - I'm already making a list: hobonichi 5year planner, fountain pens and inks. The staff are all so welcoming, helpful, and knowledgeable about stationary. They are ready to help you and refill places in the store, even though the shop can be super crowded. How do they do that lol Parking is hard to find. Very small and cute Taiwanese-based stationary store in Brooklyn. Decent selection of notebooks from Midori, Hobonichi, etc along with a WIDE selection of pens/pencils, as well as fountain pens to try in the center of the store. Also, higher end fountain pens stored away closer to the cashier. Their in store selection seems to beat any other stationary store we had came across in the NYC area including Manhattan and Flushing. Quite impressive ! They have a huge selection of inks as well ! Lots of erasers, washi tapes, stamps, pencil sharpeners, stickers, etc too ! All the staff are widely knowledgable about all of their stock. Only complaint? Such limited hours/days opened AND in Brooklyn (i'm not from NY... heh) A MUST VISIT if you are into stationary and pens ! The most lovely Taiwanese stationery shop, with the kindest staff! From the wooden tables and shelves to the potted plants and handwritten notes encouraging shoppers to try out pens -- it's charming inside. There's a ton of notebooks, pens, fountain pens, washi tape, stickers, stamps, and other stationery accessories to browse. It's not the largest store, so it can get a bit crowded. There's a long table spanning across the middle of the room, with a bunch of pens available for testing. It's nice how the staff will grab new pens separate from the tester pens when you're ready. The store is super well-organized, and the staff are knowledgeable and diligent in keeping things tidy. I left with a couple of pens and rolls of washi tape. I live a few blocks from Yoseka and I run a small pet care business in the neighborhood. I pass by the store every day going to and from clients, and noticed it was very popular. So, I decided to go in yesterday (March 19, 2025) to buy origami paper. I had seen there was some available on its website, but figured it made more sense to go into the store in person with the thought that even if they didn't have any origami paper, there were other stationery items I was in need of and would have considered purchasing. When I entered the store, it was quite busy, and I was unable to see past all the people who were lined up in front of the shelves. I then approached the cashier and asked if they had any origami paper. She glanced around and quickly said, 'I think we are all out,' I was a bit taken aback by the speed in which she came to this conclusion. She 'thinks' they are all out? How was she able to determine this from the opposite side of the store and with all of the people blocking her view of the shelves? Even if she didn't want to walk to the shelf and confirm there was none in stock, I would have appreciated it if she had, at the very least, pointed me in the direction so that I could have looked for myself to make sure. Feeling that my patronage was not welcomed nor wanted, I decided not to look for the other items I would have liked to buy and quickly exited. In any case, I gave my experience two stars because she did show a bit of courtesy by apologizing with a 'sorry' after she told me they were all out of origami paper. read more

Yoseka is such a special independently-owned shop with the sweetest owners (Daisy and Neil) and staff! Everyone is so passionate and knowledgable about stationery. I'm so grateful a stationery shop of its high caliber exists in New York -- you can find so many brands and items here, particularly from overseas. It's definitely a must-visit for stationery aficionados. One of the focal points of the store is their pen bar right in the center of the store. There are so many different types of ballpoint, gel, and fountain pens, and markers to try. I've especially enjoyed visiting recently to test out different fountain pens. You get such personalized service here, I don't think any other store quite compares. It's also not intimidating at all to shop around. Yoseka is also a Traveler's Company partner store, so they'll host Traveler's Notebook events from time to time. Most recently, they had the diner celebration and the stamp caravan. Honestly, I think that Yoseka Stationery is the best stationery shop in NYC, and I've had a stationery problem for 20+ years. This is going to sound like a paid review, but I swear it's not. I'm just so excited after finding out about this shop a year ago and have made several online and in-store purchases. As a fountain pen enthusiast, I'm always looking to find small shops to support. It is so difficult to shop for fountain pens, especially for anyone who's new to the hobby. I wish Yoseka had existed when I first got into fp's over 10 years ago. I remember walking into another well-known fp shop in NY back then and being extremely intimidated. I felt pressured and judged by the salespeople (looking young always works against me when shopping). I ended up walking out without getting any of my questions answered, and feeling almost ashamed to have tried to buy a pen without any knowledge and thinking I could spend less than $30. Well, not at Yoseka. The shop is super cozy and inviting, and the staff is super kind. They offer a really amazing range of fountain pen (and SO MUCH STATIONERY) products from entry level to more luxury, hard-to-find pieces. The store is set up so that you can try their entire offering of pens and inks. I can't stress how much of a luxury this is. Shopping for a fountain pen, especially your first one, is a very personal experience. You can't tell from an online photo if you will love a pen or not. The staff is always ready to answer questions, whether you're looking to spend $15 on your first pen, or $1000+ on your umpteenth pen. There's no judging and they just genuinely want to share the love of pens, inks, and all things stationery. To add to that, they offer some of the best Asian stationery that you will not find anywhere else. Especially when it comes to Taiwanese goods; they are one of the only places I know that have such a strong tie to Taiwanese vendors. I can't say enough good things about this shop. And the cherry on top is that their website is actually really up-to-date and easy to navigate. They offer a very low threshold for free domestic shipping, and always ship ultra fast (with very good packaging). I love me a well designed, user-friendly website. Side note: Can I add that most people these days have been spoiled by the big rainforest retailer's almost instant shipping? It is so expensive for small businesses to compete with, especially with the current pandemic and logistics crisis. Offering any free shipping option at all is a huge gesture, must less to keep it competitive with big corporations. Just in general, please support your local mom-an-pop shop; support your neighbors.
