Ok first pros: Really easy parking, very cheap pricing (per pound) clothes were like 1.67 a lb and books for .87 cents maybe a lb and electronics even cheaper You can find gems if you have the time and dedication to picking through all the stuff- I legitimately didn't realize a pair of pants I had were an expensive brand until I got home so you can find good quality there and cool older books too which was fun. Cons: you are digging though everything which takes time but also you are digging through everything including (for some reason) underwear including used ones which I don't understand why they even keep those in there as well as things that are obviously damaged or needing repair. So maybe bring gloves if you are grossed out by that. Also I'm not handy so damaged material and clothes are useless to me. Great for fabrics though. Other con it's mostly clothes, some blankets, some books, and a lot of damaged older electronics Personally I'd only come here if I was looking for clothing because that's a majority of what it was BUT got a great deal on all I got and left only spending about $12 My sister had about 13lbs of books and clothes and spent around $23 read more

You have to go with an open mind and maybe rubber gloves. Some folks even wear masks because it can be dusty and you really have no idea where this stuff has been! But it's fun and the workers at this GW are very good sports. I find FAbulous treasures here, especially movies, craft supplies and cool books! Bring your own bags and maybe a small Rollie cart if you have one. No shopping buggies allowed outside the building! read more

I love this goodwill. I honestly visit weekly because it's so close and has great finds. I know everyone shares about the left size being the by weight bins but honestly I never go there. If you have ample time and are not worried about cleanliness go for it. It gives me anxiety just looking at piles and piles of stuff. The normal store is great. I have found tons of work stuff there- great brand name dresses and shoes (gap, loft, jcrew etc). They are pretty friendly and organized too. Good rotating selection of home stuff as well (furniture and decor). Recommend! read more

The bins are loaded with heavy items on top of other items. People throw items over as they start looking in the bins. Most items get damaged just from how uncaring the bins are sorted by employees. One of the employees from the back, Shorty, acts like a military boss shouting orders. I have seen him hand a receipt from the floor to a woman and she then not pay for her buggy load of items. The person with her came from the restroom and asked if she had already checked out and the woman said Shorty "helped me - be quiet ". The is also an elderly lady there all the time and she goes to the check out, does not unload her buggy, chats with the tall female cashier, with the British accent, and then pushes her cart out. No money, card, receipt or anything else is exchanged. You then in a few minutes see the elderly lady back from unloading her cart to her car and she fills it up again. And the same thing happens at check out. Shorty calls this elderly lady "Mama" and Granny. I have also seen items come from the back be handed to customers and they walk out with them. One day it was a very nice cast iron fireplace screen. Looked expensive but was not paid for- just handed out from the back and walked out the door. Again Shorty was the employee doing the free transfer. Bathrooms are unclean and closed more than a hour before stores closes. Never enough carts. All employees are rude and unfriendly except to certain customers, who have the privilege of nonpayment. read more

Con: I noticed that the bin area has lost its magic. Customers in that part of the building have an edge there, and it is not a good one. The people there feel aggressive now, whereas before it was pretty chill. As my previous review states, you might run into a character here and there, but now...it just feels different. Pro: The employees in the bin area are nice. Pro: Ronni and I scored a few items of clothing, five stuffed animals, a Moshi key chain from a fast food chain, a vinyl pencil case with German states' coat of arms, and a cheap, electric candle in the bin area for under five bucks. Remember, it goes by weight. Look for the vintage Radio Shack joystick game that I left behind. Con: Some employees up front are still rude. For some strange reason, the rude ones always have natural blonde hair. The unfriendly one I encountered did not want to hand me a skirt that she was blocking on her distribution rack. I could have just waited for her to walk away, or even have followed her to the skirt area when she decided to stock it, but I was excited. You know what? I found the matching top, and put them together to increase Goodwill's sales. (My daughter had no interest in the skirt.) Con: The dressing rooms are now locked, and an attendant has to unlock them. You have to press a germy button to summon an attendant. Pro: The attendants are very fast and nice. Pro: Jewelry is now presented in an organized way, and makes shoppers who love crocodile pins happy. Con: The jewelry is priced too high- three bucks for each piece. Pro: The kid section has been moved and shopping in that area is nice now. You do not have to worry about getting in the way of people who have a shoe fetish. Pros outweigh the cons. I tried a bit over a year ago to go into the outlet store with my adult autistic son. This young man could NOT wear a mask, but it was after the mandate, and most places were understanding of his issues. He is high functioning, but has severe anxiety issues. The woman at the front said he had to have a mask on. When I explained about his medical issues, she called the manager, who was IMMEDIATELY rude. I tried to explain about him, and she said, (YES this is a quote) "If your retard son can't wear a mask, you need to take his fat ass home until he grows up. Now both of you get the f%#$ out of my store." I WILL NEVER GO BACK to that store. (I will say that I wondered into a South Asheville Goodwill trying to kill time a few months later, and when I spoke with a worker there, I had barely started the story when he interrupted me and described the rude manager. I like the stuff I got from Goodwill. I bought some things to use in the kitchen. What I do not like is the way Goodwill has raised their prices. Really? The prices on the tshirts were high enough, and now you have raised them up fifty more cents? Who wants to buy ragged out tshirts for twice the price of brand new ones at walmart in the multipack. You guys are not managing your store right if you think this is fair trade. I dont even want to donate to you now. I just want to sit my stuff out and have a free yard sale. I think you are missing the point of Good Will. I do like the stuff that I bought, but I know that I did not save very much money on the items, plus they are used, of course. I just like to help me and you at the same time, but you're making it way harder now, way more difficult than it used to be. I used to love going to the big goodwill because it was really nice but not so much nice workers which makes me want to stop shopping there after what happened yesterday and usually a frequent shopper but they don't deserve my money anymore. After waiting for someone coming from all the way out passed Charlotte to help haul a piece of furniture that I been standing with for hours and they sell it to someone who didn't really take a look at it which made me so mad and then telling me that I should've looked at the paper when clearly it should've been first come first serve and they should've treated a customer with fairness and respect and this one guy got really smart with me and I didn't even know the guy but that isn't how you should treat your customers. read more

Wow. Simply wow. I'm still in awe of this place. It's huge. The goods there are amazing. I found a battle axe, a men's back hair trimmer with extendable arm, and a childlike cherub figurine that was in a downright disturbing position, prone wouldn't even begin to cover it. This was nothing until I realized that there was a clearance section in the back. A CLEARANCE SECTION AT GOOD WILL!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND THIS????? Bulk clothing sold by the pound. I was simultaneously amazed, awestruck, nauseous, disturbed, baffled, excited and grossed out. I felt like touching the clothing and items here would surely lead to a nasty case of scabies or flesh eating bacteria, so I just poked it with a stick here and there looking for sweet sweet tacky goodness. Big Goodwill, probably the biggest I've yet to see to date. Typical Goodwill stuff, which means some great, some not-so-great. Prices are higher here than in Cary, but price varies in all Goodwill stores. I could kick myself because I didn't know about the vat of stuff out back. I'm a huge fan of thrift shopping and secondhand stores. This Goodwill however is extremely difficult to find deals at, as they've gone pretty commercial. Want a dented in stainless steel trash can that is a salvage item from Target that appears to have fallen off the truck and rolled its way into the store? That will be $40. How about a 50 Shades and Grey "vibrating love ring?" Also a target castaway, that awkward object will set you back just as much as if you were to purchase it new. The only saving grace of this particular store is the outlet portion. They throw everything that hasn't sold (generally priced too high to begin with) or that they don't want to deal with in giant bins. It's up to you to dig through and find what you want, then take it up to check out. They weigh it and charge you $1.25 per pound, which is a great deal and honestly ends up pricing the item(s) at what they should have been offered at to begin with. Due to the corporate spillover, the inflated pricing, and the offering of retail merchandise that honestly should have been junked in the first place, I give this Goodwill 2 stars overall. read more

This store sells stuff (and I emphasize stuff) that is dropped off by people who are decluttering. I found an inexpensive solid pine dining table there once for $70 which was a good deal for solid wood furniture. Most of the time there is just an abundance of items which I would not want as a gift, but people buy used items there all day long. It is important to be realistic about buying here, since their inventory consists of things that other people basically threw away. Don't go in with high expectations and that way you may be pleasantly surprised. Be sure to test any electrical item before you buy. If you cannot test it, just walk away from the deal. read more

I love coming to the goodwill outlet next door to the goodwill retail. I don't even step foot into the retail side anymore. The outlet or as the locals call it "the bins" are mindblowing.overwhleming.heaps of crazy! Skip what my cheap friend and I refer to as the "expensive part of Goodwill", and make a bee-line for the back right corner of the parking lot. There, nestled in the rear of the Goodwill, dedicated thrifters will find that their wildest dreams have come true. Bin upon glorious, heaping bin of clothing that wasn't even good enough for the Goodwill crowd. Just like The Island of Misfit Toys, you'll find weird stuff that's just right for you and you'll get it for a mere $1.10 per pound. That means a Santa bag full of fabric for a fiver. Just allot a couple of hours to thoroughly dig through each bin, be sure to wash everything twice, and gloat as you tell your friends that your funky, fun shirt cost you a dime. read more

As for the retail side located through the right entrance, I normally don't bother, because most of the prices for the items in there could not really be called thrift in my book considering many are the same price or sometimes even higher than what you would pay in a normal retail store for new items. But the clearance center located through the left entrance can offer some decent finds, if you don't mind digging through bins and feeling like you are dumpster diving at times. But be careful and remember that you are buying the item by the pound, so that bowling ball you find may not be as good of a deal as the stuffed teddy bear. And some of the clothing items can add up in price iif you are not careful. It seems that things like tee shirts average out to about 75 cents each, which isn't too bad. But if you find a coat you might want to consider the weight and decide if it is a real bargain at the price per pound cost. And if you are new to going to this store and you see a bin being rolled in from the back, be careful, because as soon as they say you can look at it, it will look like a pack of hungry dogs attacking a helpless animal, so unless you are brave you might want to want until the riot calms down before approaching that bin. read more

The Outlet store (which is around the corner of the building and currently obscured due to construction) is a gem. Of course, you have to be interested in sorting through bins of other people's discarded clothing, toys, and other assundrus items. HOWEVER, if you are looking for something in particular it's quite easy to find what you are looking for. In my trip I found a bunch of white t-shirts for a upcycle rug I'm working on, over three yards of lace material, and a Dooney and Bourke purse (yes, a designer purse in a Goodwill bin) all for less than $8. In my same trip, a guy found a complete Kelty one man tent for less than $2. (I'm still a bit jealous.) I totally reccomend this store to anyone who likes to thrift! read more

If you are a person looking for silver items, gold items, or antiques I would tend to avoid this store as well as the one in Weaverville and the two large ones towards Hendersonville. What few items you see in the cases are often well overpriced and tend to be silver. Oddly, you will almost never see gold of any size or shape. I wonder if they have a policy like the Salvation Army on Leicester Hwy where the better items are taken to a local pawn shop and sold (I was told this by a worker at the Salvation Army). These things noted, it is a decent place if you like books, old pocket books, and women's clothing. I would estimate only around 10% to be men's clothing. Also, you can find some average items there as well if you are willing to battle and dig for them. Overall, I would still recommend the Outlet Store on Patton for general hunting. It is worth the trip. Yet, if men's clothes, silver and gold jewelry, and antiques are your goals you will likely be highly disappointed. read more

I tried to buy a rug that was priced at $25, and verified the price with the employee who took the rug down from the display for me. When I got to the checkout, the manager then said it was $50. This is absolutely absurd. I will be filing a concern with their corporate office. I will give this store one more star because I got on the phone with the district manager and he gave me the rug for $25. read more

I've been to every Goodwill I can find in Asheville & Swannanoa North Carolina as well as every other Thrift Shop I can find. Compared to Salvation Army, Kiwanis, ABCCM and other less known shops Goodwill is without a doubt the most expensive, sometimes ridiculously so. Example: yesterday @ Swannanoa location were 2 plastic planters, 1 black with no saucer to catch overflow, slightly curved bottom so it wouldn't sit up without it, very dirty exterior. The other cream colored, had the saucer but FILTHY. Priced $2.00 each. A couple hundred feet away at Dollar General or Family Dollar, not sure which, planter pots, clean, new, same size & a bit bigger with designs on the outside of the pots were priced at $2.00 as well. Which would you buy? Various pieces to a leg massage unit scattered over about 6 feet of shelving. Items not together, no bag or box, no instructions & not even sure if all pieces are there....$20.00! On the other side of that same shelf I immediately see a beautiful verde' wrought iron, coat rack for 3 bucks. Where's the logic in that. Rack well worth $20.00 to me. Leg unit not worth anything cause unsure about the parts, may not even work. It didn't say. Clothes are usually a good deal but all the Asheville area Goodwill Thrift stores are pricing their stuff equal to or higher than new retail. I don't know who prices but I feel like the same guy just hops from one store to the other to price the items & he apparently has very little experience shopping. I'm not meaning to be ugly but as I stated before, I can buy new for the same money. And, everybody seems to be hung up on $8.00. Would you pay $8.00 for a glass ice bucket with a tiny chip out of the top, no lid, no tongs & an extremely tarnished handle? Or a 3 pc. set of small hand held garden tools with plastic handles, one chewed up on the end and 2 tines of the digging tool bent? $8.00??? Wall Mart sells them new for $2.00 each. I've said all that in order to say this; People in WNC are poor. Our economy has plummeted to rock bottom. Very few have jobs & they need thrift stores so they can get clothes, shoes & household items. We just can't afford your prices. Also, you would save yourself a lot of money by moving the items out with customers instead of having to move them from store to store because they haven't sold. If you'd price your donations reasonably you'd end up making more money in the long run. Mark it down, sell it & bring in more for the next returning group of consumers. Somebody make the rounds of the local Thrift Shops and compare the prices & quality of merchandise. I believe you'll find that while Goodwill is a very worthy cause, you are cheating all of us by overpricing your unorganized merchandise and having to swap it from store to store. You must visit a Goodwill Outlet Store once before you croak. It is beyond an existential experience. Upon entering one is flooded with an overwhelming feeling of impending doom mixed with the thrill of uncovering potential treasure to be appraised at the next Antiques Roadshow. Obviously, it is a sea of discarded items that look like the remnants of a Midwestern tornado. If you have the time, patience,and are phobia-free-many a useful item can be discovered! However, be assured that it is slim pickins when veteran Goodwillers have been and are in full force. Kind of like a scene out of Soylent Green, beware the "new arrival" cart, people swoop in on these like flies to well, you know. I was very disappointed with this Goodwill recently. I have been going there for a long time but had never been in the part where they have the bins that people go through and pay by the pound. Someone from the other side recommended that I check that side out because I was looking for a headboard, Didn't find a headboard but found a nice patio table that I paid for to be picked up later that day. It was a Saturday and the place was packed and they had a new guy at the register so waited in line for awhile because he had to keep calling people up there to help him. There seemed to be plenty of people working there that day so they should have had someone up there to help him all the time. Apparently he didn't call to the back to have them take it off the floor and someone else bought it after I did. By the time my Grandson told me it was gone when he went to pick it up, I went up there and the manager said she couldn't give refunds and I would have to wait until the next day and talk to Ed. The next day I went back and was told by Carl ( the supervisor) that Ed was at lunch and I would have to come back. This being my 3rd trip there for a mistake that they made not me, I asked Carl why he couldn't do it and he said he didn't think his code would work on that side and that he would go in the back and talk with Ed. I was waiting for 45 minutes so went and stood by the door going into warehouse and every time someone came out that door I asked them to go get Ed for me. I guess he wasn't supposed to be disturbed while eating his lunch even though it was their mistake. If that is the case then you need to assign someone to handle these matters for you when you are at lunch. He finally came out to take care of it and give me my money back but he and Carl were not very nice about it. I guess they thought I would just wait until they were good and ready to take care of me, well I don't let people treat me that way and I don't care who they are and it shouldn't matter what company you work for you should always be professional, especially if you are a supervisor or a manager, read more
