Impressive in terms of both men and women's clothing. i loved the atmosphere, it's dark and calming with soft lighting and retro jazzy tunes. The layout is really navigable and if you're like me and you like to circle, it's really conducive to that. Lots of high quality pieces made out of real materials (ie cotton, linen) and the price points blew me away. Extremely well-priced and owners take into account flaws in their pricing. I was researching vintage clothing stores in Asheville for my recent trip and this one came up in my searches. Located on Walnut off Broadway, it's a small shop that offers women's and men's clothing. There's a mix of eras under one roof and I noticed they have a good selection of men's clothing, which sometimes is a struggle for the guys who like vintage. When I went this time, there was a smaller selection of women's clothing, but most of the pieces seemed to be in fair condition. Spotted a vintage Dior jacket, but decided to not grab it. I'd guess that most of the clothing at the time that I went was from the 1970s-now. Mostly I saw tops, tees, and jackets, along with vintage denim. Parking options include street parking and parking lots where you pay by the hour. I went with the latter as it was more cost effective when I compiled my list of shops to visit in the same area. I recommend going that route because most of the shops are on the main streets and it's easy to reach them by walking. read more

Okay. See that picture that the owner took- the one with that beige/brown plaid Woolrich jacket hanging on the wall in it? Yeah, I had that same exact jacket almost 30 years ago. I loved that thing! Talk about a trip down memory lane! Great little vintage store with a nice selection of clothes for women and men. Most of it is only gently used and well curated - the owner has good taste. Hands down- my favorite vintage store in Asheville! Small, but great mens and womens items. Jackets, and scarves are my personal favorite, and I always leave with something I love! There was a two year period when every time I went to Ragtime I purchased a jacket. I now have five that I wear on a regular basis...as diverse in style as a brown cord jacket to a Russian military jacket. I also have shirts, ties, tie clips...the list goes on. The staff is friendly and laid back. The store is not pretentious or pompous. The clothing has every appearance of being hand selected from all over the country/world. The styles are diverse. Everything is in excellent condition and ready to wear. The prices reflect the quality and I've never had buyers regret when shopping here. You have to return often because selection changes weekly...you never know what you are going to get. read more

I am getting worried that the buyer at Ragtime knows the style I like and my dress size...it seems everytime I go in there is always "the perfect dress" that fits only me...and I buy it. I love this store, always something new to see and the prices are super affordable...this is coming from a rather broke college student. Probably my favorite vintage store ever. The selection is very nice. You can tell they put a lot of effort into finding cool clothes to sell. The prices are definitely lower than new clothes retailers like urban outfitters, I'd say about half as expensive as similar items there, and definitely higher quality clothes. Love this store. Read the yelp reviews and had some free time so i had to check it out. Few items but great selection and good prices! A soon as I walked in I saw the sale rack where I found a beautiful yellow blouse and a pair of wool high waisted pants for $7. When I went to pay I noticed that the pants had a minor imperfection that needed resewing when I brought this to the attention of the store clerk he reduced them to $5. The selection is not vast, but the items that they do have are great finds and priced appropriately. I also found a really awesome skirt for $15. They have a restroom inside the store, which is a plus and they fitting rooms are creatively constructed out of pipes and heavy cloth, though still spacious and comfortable. The only downside is the lighting, they have somewhat dim lighting in the fitting room area so it makes it hard to see accurately how something fits. Parking is street and it took me a little bit to find a spot; eventually found a meter (must have quarters for the meter since they were not the high tech kind of meters that accepts credit cards) , though I am not from here, so maybe the locals have some better insight on some good free parking in this area of town. read more

This store is real-deal vintage, with cool stuff for guys... and good women's as well. It's totally hand-picked gear, so you get a good fun mixture of interesting pieces and none of that wholesale wrinkly 70's crap. And the prices are way below what you might expect! A true gem. It's a casual, current, very fashionable selection of authentic vintage clothing. Sometimes there is older stuff, like a 50's dress or men's suits from the early 60's...... but also bold 80's-90's gear and of course all the staples like westerns, tees, sweatshirts, boots, and shoes. Ragtime wasn't as packed full of clothing as I had thought it would be, but still had a fair amount of stuff at reasonable prices. Lacoste polos for 16.50, sunglasses for 8.50 (although they all looked suspiciously like ones you could find coming fresh out of China at this very second), and the like. I settled on a silk scarf for 3.50 and took it up to the counter, where there was no employee. I waited for about two or three minutes and she came rushing in, calculated the tax and total of the item, paused, apologized for spacing out, and then handed me a receipt and my scarf. We both went back outside, and she went over to her two friends outside who she had been chatting with. They were smoking, and she asked them what they had just made her inhale... to which they said something about buying a year's supply... It was a little odd, but not terrible. . read more

Traveling from NH and looking for some thrifty finds this place had all of that and more! I found some 80s threads tucked away on the rack and was able to put them on hold for a day or two - only to forget them before I left!! I was so bummed.. BUT all it took was a quick call to the shop and Erin had both items in the mail before I could throw a fit lol All in all super hip, super accommodating and extremely friendly!
