I am a big fan of the Fairfax Goodwill! I go there frequently. First of all, the volunteers are helpful and friendly. I am a frequent thrifter and have gone to a variety of Goodwills in the area, and this location has BY FAR the friendliest and most accommodating workers (which I very much appreciate). A few of the items I wanted to purchase had lost their price tags along the way, which has been an issue in the past, but the volunteer told me not to worry, and quickly(and pleasantly) found someone to give me a price with no problem or accusatory looks; great customer service! At the Annandale Goodwill, the manager accusingly told me that I could not purchase several items because "someone" had ripped the tags off to "probably try to get away with getting a better price," so I'd just have to wait till it was repriced 24-48 hours later and just hope that I found it again at that time. I found the Fairfax GW to be easy-going and easy to work with, which makes me visit this location regularly over other GW in the area. The second reason I love this location is because this GW is clean, organized, and items are effectively sorted (clean, in new-good condition, gross/damaged items not displayed on racks). It's easy to find what you want to look at and I LOVE that clothing is sorted by size AND color. They have clean/roomy dressing rooms. They have a beautiful collection of shoes, and they are all in great condition and reasonably priced. I don't typically buy shoes at thrifts, but I always buy a pair or two here when I visit because they are in such good condition and high quality. The only downfall (and not really a problem.. just unnecessary/annoying)... the "designer/specialty" clothing rack - ugh!! There is zero rhyme or reason to which items receive overpriced tags just for randomly being chosen for this rack. I totally get keeping Gucci, Prada, Coach, etc. on a special rack that cost more or behind the counter, but there are very few "special" items on this rack... Eddie Bower?? Hollister? Ann Taylor Loft? These are not high-end designers that need jacked up prices.. The regular racks have BCBG, Urban Outfitters, and J. Crew that cost just as much and are priced regularly. It seems silly to have shoppers pass up items because they are overpriced on the "specialty" rack when they could easily be sold for regular prices and earning profits for a great organization. This is a nice location and I am not even a big Goodwill fan. I think this location changed my mind because there was some nice quality clothes like: banana republic, ann taylor, The Gap, etc. I found a few great finds and some nice random beer glasses. Calling all Bargain shoppers! Deals everyday, from 50% off clothes to 50% off furniture. Great place to look for used furniture or household items. The electronic section is a little light, but everything else is very diverse in selections. I used to shop here all the time in high school searching for a cool "vintage" shirt but now, i go for the furniture. New selections everyday and the staff are friendly and helpful. While I have not shopped in this store, I have dropped off multiple times and the experience has always been positive and easy. The associates collecting the donations in back are friendly and helpful. The process is quick - before you know it, you are handed a receipt and on your way. I like the fact that the donation of my gently used goods is in a way helping the community. The alley in back to get to the donation center is narrow and you do have to be careful especially with cars coming in and out. Other than that, no complaints! read more

ok, so i'm a little embarassed to say that I do shop at goodwill. I can afford new stuff, I just love to hunt for treasures! This place used to be run down, dark dirty and depressing. The new Goodwill managemnt giave it a facelift and now it's shopable. Its fun to rummage through junkto find a treasure once in a while. Decent thrift store. One side has furniture which is in ok shape. Sofas, chairs and some wood furniture. Clothing was ok, not tons of selection but manageable. Decent book and dvd selection. Housewares are ok and there is a outlet portion to test things out. I ended up getting a picture frame, soap dish and picnic basket, all in good shape. There is also a small kids section too. Workers are friendly. Not an overwhelming place (like Unique thrift). Donations in the back of the center. I'd visit every few months. read more

For the price point, the things I got were definitely a huge bargain compared to what I was willing to pay for it. They had a 10% off $50 when I went. They used to be sooo much better 2 to 3 years ago. Clothing was a better selection, and cheaper. I also think there was less... junk? There are crap toys and old electronics and strange holiday type decorations and dolls. I will admit I have found my favorite furniture pieces from them (but it was also 2 years ago). They have cheap mirrors ($4) and I found a great bookshelf for less than $20. The clothing they have is very untrendy. I am not even talking about it has to be modern, mall type clothes. I'm sayin this stuff is so 90s I can't even. And I like vintage clothes too. The store itself is smallish. I visited the store for the first time and left very disappointed. Selection was not good like other stores. I witnessed the manager store Abraham being rude to a customer that was questioning the cost of an item on a receipt. Upon leaving I noticed a car in front of the store with a baby inside by himself. I nicely approached to the manager and expressed my concern. He rapidly responded that was not his problem and totally refused to call out to check if the car owner was in the store. What kind of world are we living? I thought goodwill pride themselves for helping communities and those in needs. read more

The worst Goodwill branch i've been to as a frequent customer. The manager was rude and did not allow my daughter to be on the bike because it is "disrupting to other customers". My daughter was not wildly riding the bike. In fact, she doesn't know how to ride a bike! As a 4yo, she was very excited about the bike. She was right along beside me as we were heading to check out. I told the manager we were buying it. But she said it is their policy to not bike in the store and she wants me to put the bike in my cart instead! My cart was packed with stuff already. She offered no help whatsoever. She just told me that my daughter should not be on the bike. I would have understand if my daughter was biking all around the store and bothering people. But that was not the case. It seemed like she wanted control, and i am an easier target because i am Asian. Her title as the "manager" really got into her head. read more

Come on Tuesdays for 25% on clothing. I have mixed feelings about the pricing; it's strange to me that sweaters and long sleeves are the same price of $6. I liked the selection of blazers and coats, and they had some nice women's dress pants, some with tags still attached. I wish they had more shoes, but the ones they had were pretty pricey ($15). Tips: wear a T-shirt or tank top to try things on in front of the mirror next to the dressing rooms to save time (dressing rooms are usually taken) read more

This is a clean, well-organized store. I've donated several times here with donations accepted in the back of the store. I've also shopped here a few times also and have found some great books. Tuesdays are 25% off clothing, and they also have "happy hour" promotions sometimes from 6-7pm. If you use your Capital One Card you get 10% off - but not combinable with the other promotions. read more

I recently moved to Fairfax from the San Francisco Bay Area (yes, big move), armed with little more than a couple suitcases and four boxes of the few belongings I deemed worthy of keeping. So when I secured a place to stay, I had next to nothing in household furniture and accessories. Ikea helped to gain me some of the bigger furniture pieces, but it hurt my budget. As I was exploring Main St. for the first time, this Goodwill appeared. And so I went inside and found what is probably the most well organized and fair priced thrift store that I have ever shopped in. Over the course of my first week here, I visited this Goodwill almost every day and each time, I walked away with something cheap, but great for building up my apartment.-Side tables, small heater ($10), larger radiator heater ($15) small trash cans ($2), shelves ($3), an office chair($5), even a 20" widescreen monitor for my computer ($25). That's just scratching the surface too. I am thoroughly impressed by its selection. Additionally, If you're kind of techy like me, you'd be happy to know that they even have a testing table/station with several power strips on them. Note: Much of the furniture I bought was 50% off due to a sale-However, I feel that even with that discount, their prices were still quite fair. The only real con (rather, annoyance) I found is at checkout-The tellers constantly ask you if you'd like to donate by rounding up your total to the next dollar. If it's a reasonable amount, perhaps up to 20 cents, I woudn't mind it as much. Beyond that (and believe me, they'll ask) I feel it's kind of rude. It's a thrift store, the people shopping there are trying to save money. That said, I will definitely continue shopping here. read more

However the associates that put out the accessories and shoes have been giving the cool stuff to certain customers in the store not just putting them out for everyone and that disturbs me. I don't want to round up, because Goodwill has already increased the prices- why don't you take all of the profits from online auctions & sales and put it towards your therapy & job outreach programs. People there is not nice at the picking up the donations, they treat you as if you're doing something wrong, or like they are making you a favor. I am a frequent Goodwill shopper throughout the state of VA. It's always a fun time taking my teenage children there to find hidden gems. The Goodwill in Fairfax is by far my favorite store and I stop there at least once a week. Items are well-organized, the staff is always kind and helpful. Sometimes the line can be long to check out, but that is because there are many cool finds here and few people leave empty-handed. Good location, great parking, only drawback is the drop-off in the back of the building can be a little tricky as it's one lane in both directions. Not a fault of Goodwill, just be considerate when you drop off items to be patient and let people pass. Overall a great store and my favorite Goodwill. read more

The Fairfax Goodwill is a wonderfully run store. There are some of the finest and pleasant workers in this store. You never know what you are going to find. Their program using your phone number to register is helpful for extra savings. It is a great place to donate your items (go around back). The round-up program (rounding to the nearest dollar) is used to help with programs for the PEOPLE in need. I buy all my picture frames their with a great value. I love shopping for books there too. Most electronics are untested JUNK and I had to fight and claw for a refund (store credit only) that met policy requirements. I frequent most of the Greater Washington area Goodwill stores. This one is the worst for electronics, I have to return 90% of what I buy. I understand some things cannot be tested without certain equipment/knowledge. That is a risk mitigated with a 7-day return policy (which is now harder to met, since you have to return to the SAME store). Today, I had four returns, most of them my 2-year-old daughter could of determined. One DVD recorder's tray didn't even open. It was down pouring outside as I loaded the returns in a cart and ran into the store. The cashier looks at my returns, runs away and gets another cashier. The new cashier tells me they are not in the same condition since they are wet. I asked him to look outside through the huge glass windows directly to his right..it's raining. He's told me it has been tested by them and they work. I grew impatient as I asked him to just refund me so I can go about my day. He tells me "you're not getting your money back". I asked him to refund me as it meets all policy requirements or I'll call corporate. He scurried away and came back with a "manager". The "manager" tells me they have very good "testers" (yeah Helen Keller, Stevie Wonder, and Ray Charles) and he's confused. At this point I am very upset, it shouldn't be this difficult to return items that meet the return policy. I eventually got my store credit but was made to look like I was trying to get over on Goodwill's JUNK YARD operation of free items they blindly markup based on ebay. Give me a break! read more

OK so I decided to do a second go round because the first time I went the store didn't have much to choose from. I must say I was please with the selection and every rack was fulled to capacity. I found a lot of unique pieces for excellent prices and still no weird smell. This Goodwill is small yet mighty. No, there's not a lot. If you want something specific, you probably won't find it. But: Ten dollar Armani suit. This is the Goodwill I go to when I want something very nice for very cheap. Keep in mind that they separate suit jackets from the pants (why??), so if you find one, you have to dig for the other. It may or may not be there. Also: donation dropoffs are in the back of the building, and you have to drive down a fairly narrow alley. It can get dicey if there are big cars already there. read more

I visited the store for the first time on May 25, 2018 and met Brad who assisted me and my sister with our donation. He was welcoming, humble, funny, gracious and charming. I must say I did not expect this kind of customer service. I left with a smile on my face that lasted all day. I have not received this kind of customer service in a very long time.
