I really wanted to like this place because I'm the type of person who could easily spend hours browsing through a game store, but unfortunately the customer service and overall organization really bring it down. The store itself is very unorganized, and the online inventory doesn't seem to accurately reflect what is actually available in the store, which makes it frustrating if you're coming in looking for something specific. The checkout experience was especially frustrating. The clerk took an unusually long time to complete a simple transaction, and it became pretty apparent that he was distracted or doing something else. After standing there waiting, I finally asked if everything was okay, and coincidentally my transaction was completed almost immediately afterward. I understand that stores get busy and employees have other things to handle, but basic communication and attentiveness go a long way. This could be a great place for people who enjoy browsing and collecting games, but unfortunately the poor customer service, disorganization, and inaccurate online inventory make it hard to recommend. read more

My old Wii is having some issues and my sibling found this store for me to check out. I drove from the city to get it diagnosed and the repair guy wouldn't even look at it which was super frustrating. He recommended other repair stores but why have a support area if you won't even bother trying to diagnose an issue much less fix it? No pricing on any packaging was also weird but they do have a website that's mostly usable. Cashiers can also check prices and stock for you. I ended up buying a few games just so I didn't go out there for nothing but was pretty disappointed based on the services offered on the website. The selection of games is really solid but I don't recommend them for tech support. read more

I remember when this was a smaller shop closer to Annandale and I was glad to discover this small business has grown up into this big space! We came here to get our Switch's charging port repaired. They were super friendly and much more affordable than other bigger franchises doing repairs in the area. There is a shortage of repair techs in the area, we were quoted a month for the repair which was the same as the other shops. Regardless, our repair was completed and at least 30% cheaper than the competitors. The shop is huge and had so much fun merch, my sons and husband were loving exploring their huge selection of games, while I was checking out their kawaii hello kitty plushies and caps. A little bit out of the way, but definitely worth the trip to support this local business! read more

I have been going to eStarland for many years but I haven't written a review for them. This place is massive. I'm shocked at how much space they have for their games because it's almost like walking into a warehouse full of games, anime figurines, and merch. Everything out in the open games are shrink wrapped and it does help keep that minty fresh condition, I'm sure you don't want to see dust on items you want to buy. The back section used to be an open spot where they would host events. The Gamers Exchange was what I looked forward to the most when going here. Local sellers sold games and it brought a sense of community. There's now more of their section to test and repair consoles so I suppose it's for the better but those were the days.. Apart from all the cool video games to check out I have a few complaints. Like many, checking out here takes too long and I wonder if it's just something where their point of sales is just outdated. Even then, there's only one person just checking out people.. why not have more than one register at a time? There's the option to use WiFi but I could never get it to work. Although there are computers around to look up items that you want to check the price on, it can be a tad slow sometimes. I do like the convenience of checking out what's in stock but sometimes that's not always the case. I remember a few times asking someone that worked there if they had a game, they could not find the game at all and that put a damper on my visit. If I can't see it in person in store then most likely it's probably bought online. Otherwise I find this store to be such a joy to visit. While I think the prices are kinda high, I don't think any game store in the area could really compute. They have games ranging from NES - Recent and that's pretty impressive alone. Do not sell to these people if you're not local. I sold them some games in October 2024. I requested a check in early November. They never sent the check. I called Dec 17 and they said they were just about to mail it. Contacted them again Feb 4 because the check never arrived. First they said they said they "pulled my order" and "the check was mailed through USPS on 11/14/2024" (obvious lie in view of my call noted above) and that my payment "is subject to a 30-day waiting period starting from the completion date of my order" (it had already been three months). Then on March 5 they emailed me AN AFFIDAVIT instead of just CANCELLING THEIR OWN CHECK (which they never sent! I would have seen it in USPS informed delivery if they did even if the mail carrier lost or misdelivered it). I wasn't about to fill out their trashy affidavit (see attached), so I threatened to take them to small claims court. At that point they caved and offered to send me a replacement check or a paypal transfer. I told them to just send they money through paypal, and FINALLY, around March 13, they sent the money (with a 30% reduction relative to the original amount since I wanted cash instead of trade) FOUR MONTHS after they were supposed to send it. Overall super trashy company that will drag its feet and delay payment as long as possible -- even if it's just $80. Sad! read more

The pros: Good trade-in values and excellent selection of games. The actual trade-in process, in-person, was surprisingly efficient and friendly. The cons: Their inventory system is just not adequate. No easy way to tell if items are actually in store or online only, and the search tool only allows one filter at a time. Even if in the store, finding an item can be a "Where's Waldo" exercise; sometime games are alphabetized, but don't bet on it. The employees have no better info than you do. And the check out process ... oh my. The cashiers apparently checked out years ago. The line moves slowly because they are chatting with customers or each other, or even filling online orders instead of processing local customers. Our cashier also seemed to lack the ability to listen, immediately forgetting the name of the game that we asked about and then our method of payment. So worth your business, but set aside extra time because they're awfully inefficient. read more

Stopped here several times over the last five years - located in a business park/industrial park. I wouldn't say it's your typical store - at all - more of a warehouse with a couple of counters and whatnot. They have an odd system which aids them only - nothing is priced but everything has a barcode. There are a couple scanners around the store where customers take the items over for price checks. I will say some of their items are properly priced but sought after titles they really turn up. It comes with the territory. Cool spot - but not much organization as when we were there this time it looked like they had moved things around and there was a second counter area in the back with priced items - sub-lease area? Don't know. I will say the Hispanic guy who helped me - arm tattoos - was very friendly and helpful when I bought some chargers we needed. I liked him and would hire him myself. One of the basic premises of good business is that if you are out of stock on an item, you do not list it as "in stock." I ordered exactly what I wanted, paid for it, and then next day I got an email that said we do not have the item. Okay, human error. But it is a hard to find item, and it should have been verified as in stock so as not to get the buyers hopes up. It's too late to apologize. An apology is not good enough, and now I hold it against them. Will not do business with them any more, because they do not have the foundation of good business I mentioned. If they don't know their own inventory well enough, then they should not be in business. As others have said, they're a mixed bag. I've shopped at StarLand for years, and I remember 2 previous locations before they ended up in this business park. Pros: Fantastic trade-in prices, and a pretty simple process if you do it online beforehand. Just don't expect to be able to use your credit the same day you drop stuff off, because they need to check everything (fair). Prices for used games is ok, at least on par with what the going rate is elsewhere. They have a great selection, and you can check stock on their website. In recent years they've expanded a lot into toys and collectibles, which is neat. Cons: I wouldn't trust their repair service. I dropped off a Virtual Boy to be repaired, and after a few weeks they gave it back saying they couldn't fix it. Later on, a friend took a look at it and said they'd actually made the problem worse. Also, double check that you're actually getting a new game when you buy it. I found out I'd received a used Switch game when I paid for new (the DLC code had been redeemed), and StarLand told me I was out of luck. As others have mentioned, checking out can be slow, and sometimes their inventory system shows something in stock when it isn't (first the employees will spend 15 minutes looking for it). Just because an item is on the shelf doesn't mean it's "in stock"; someone on line may have bought it and the employees haven't had a chance to pull it yet. Overall, I still recommend shopping at StarLand because of their prices and selection, but make sure to check your purchases. read more

Went and traded a few items around my birthday and the employees here were very helpful in completing my order and providing the best service for what it was I was looking for! when I first stumbled upon eStarland online, my literal reaction was "oh my god these guys are a jackpot." Even better since I live in NOVA--they are local. I immediately placed an order for 3 nintendo DS games I never got to play when I was younger. I was so excited. I was even more excited to check out their showroom, since they are local to Northern Virginia. Unfortunately, the in-person experience, and customer service was such a letdown due to lack of basic communication. I placed my order, and I didnt receive any contact regarding the status of my order. I checked my online account and portal said that my order was "processed." so I showed up. The line to check out was long, but it was exacerbated by how long it took each person to just make simple purchases, in-person. I waited 45 minutes in line. Then the representative told me that my pickup order was not ready, and I would receive a "ready for pickup" email, and they couldn't just go grab my games at that time. fair enough there. Kind of inconvenient, since I had to drive 45 minutes from Alexandria, but it makes sense. 1 week passes. then 2. I was confused why it was taking so long. I emailed their customer service email, and I heard back that the order had been ready for a week. I searched my email, and my junk email. I received zero communication about my order being ready. my account on their website also still said the order was "processed." I couldn't go pick up the items right then, so I figured I would go the next weekend, when I was free. However, when I showed up the next weekend, after waited in line for another 30 minutes, and driving another 45, they told me that they had cancelled my order since it had been sitting for more than 7 days. I was not told of any of this until I drove there to pick up the order. What made it even worse was that they didnt even had the games I had originally purchased anymore. So I couldnt buy the items then. Additionally, on my online account, the order status still has not been updated to "cancelled." I imagine their online service is much better, and they DO have a ton of really cool items, good quality retro games/consoles--many in their original boxes! However, the customer service just seemed lazy, so if this is a long drive for you (like it is for me), I wouldn't recommend purchasing items for pickup. I am giving this place 5 stars for their customer service and how friendly the staff is. I am not a gamer, I went here about 4 times for different iPhone repairs (a big family of iPhones users ) their prices are decent and they do great work. I like their system when dropping off phones for repair. You have to create an account they will email you the update/status of your repair. You have 7 days after repair is complete to pick up the phone. You pay for the service at pick up. I had a phone that could not be repaired and they recycled it for me. No charge for taking a look at it. I will continue using them for future pairs. read more

I haven't tried their repair services. Their online ordering is horrible and if I didn't have store credit to purchase my game I wouldn't have used their online service. It's actually quite surreal how horrendous the customer service is at this place. I've overlooked it for years because of how cool of a store it is, and how much inventory they have in stock. No more. You can only overlook something for so long. Forget the long lines with one cashier that take 30 minutes to check out, while scores of other employees move about the store and don't do anything to help customers. Forget the employees that completely ignore you and just walk away as you stand at the trade in counter, not even acknowledging you as they walk away past you not even an arms length away never to return. Their selection of games, consoles, various controllers, and assorted peripheral products is amazing. What is not amazing is the slower than molasses customer service. Easy 20-minute wait in line just to buy a game. Their POS system seems slow and antiquated, and they never have more than 2 people waiting on customers. G-d forbid you want to exchange games, that's easy, another 30-40 minute process. read more

I brought a PS3 in for repair a month ago and was told it would be taken care of in "a few days". After several days, I had heard nothing, so checked in with the store myself. They asked me for a ticket number which I wasn't given. They couldn't find my order via email, despite then telling me they had sent me email updates about the system. When they did finally return the PS3 to me (having to find me via phone number and after waiting several more days and hearing nothing), the system was returned to me in worse operating condition than I originally gave it to them. I was told two weeks ago that I would hear from a member of their support staff "to try and make things right". I'm sure you can see where this is going: I've heard nothing. From anyone. I now currently have a PS3 sitting in my house collecting dust, able to do nothing more than remind me of the money I wasted on the thing, the complete failure of customer service, and the apathy by the company to do anything to resolve the issue. Fool me once, shame on you, eStarland. Fool me twice, shame on me. I can assure you, I won't make the same mistake a second time. I'm giving eStarland a 1 star for a couple of reasons. I can count at least 3 times in the last year, where I have been there to spend well over $100 and left because of terrible customer service, especially from a specific employee who is always rude. Today, I witnessed her lash out on a customer who may have had special needs. After waiting a solid 10 minutes, I finally reached the front of the line, where I was told "sorry I'm helping someone" in a rude manner. I stood there for an additional 5 minutes while she just typed at the computer, making no attempt to help the customers who have been waiting. Once again I decided to leave and take my business elsewhere. My total purchase would have been around $170 in total. I hate to leave a negative review for such a cool place, but how can I leave a good review if I can never purchase anything they offer? read more

I recently had to repair my iphone screen before trading it in. I called around to multiple cell phone repair businesses around me and found that eStarland offered the most affordable service. I knocked off my first star because their employees are constantly picking up the store phone WHILE helping people at the register which slows down the in-person service and cuts the conversation. I knocked off the additional star because I had specifically requested that they call an alternative number to let me know when the service was finished because I wouldn't have email access without my phone. I grabbed dinner, browsed at Target and decided to just check in because it had been over 2 hours (when they had promised 1 hr-1.5hrs) and I hadn't received a call. They put me on a 3 minute hold and let me know that the phone repair was finished and I could come pick it up. Once I picked up my phone, I checked my email and noticed that they actually emailed me 30 mins after I had dropped off the phone. While I do appreciate the quick repair/service, I couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed at the fact that I would've wasted even more time if I had not called to check in. read more

While dropping off my Ps Vita for screen repair I was browsing stock and honestly some of their prices for "rarer" titles & merch are wel above market value. That said, the repair was fantastic. Pretty cool place. The staff are ok. It's clean, but always smells a bit musty and the lighting off... might be what they are going for. Still a bit on the pricey side for other shops I've been too. The figures are pretty pricey as well. I've been to conventions and skimmed thru online sites and have found some things cheaper. I only come this way when I do other things out here don't really go out of my way for it because it is kinda far, but I do enjoy the visit every now and then. read more

What a nice hidden gem in Northern VA! Instant nostalgia as I walked in. They offer so many different game consoles and games that go along with them. They sell snacks and other knick-knacks as well. They offer affordable console repairs and cell phone battery replacements too! Definitely a whole lot better than Game Stop! They have self-service computers located throughout the showroom so that you can look up an item you want to buy or to price a trade-in offer. read more

They fixed the top screen on my 3DS, at the end of the day the job was done. However the screen they put on does have a small scratch. You can't see it when the screen is on so I'm giving them a pass for it. It was a 3 star experience because it took almost 3 months to get done, not including the shipping time. It took several emails and calls to get updates on the repair, when I finally got an update they said they were very busy and backed up. I won't fault them for having lots of orders, but I can't excuse the fact that the communication was very much lacking. EDIT: I am adding a star because of the email I got after posting this review. They took responsibility for their poor communication and informed me of their 180 day warranty. They also offered a partial refund. I won't be taking them up on it because they earned the money I paid them, but I really appreciate the effort. read more

They have every single game you could want across every platform you can imagine. Unfortunately, their staff completely ignores clientele unless you walk up to the register and ask for help. None of their products have prices. Instead, they require you to go to one of their computers to search individual products. IMO, this leads to them being able to change their prices on the fly. What I did look up was terribly overpriced, almost like they are basing their prices off of eBay. Look elsewhere for more common stuff. read more

This is my second visit to eStarland. This location is located within a business park but it's basically a group of warehouses. There was plenty of available parking. They sell older games (PS4) at great prices and they are still new. I also enjoy playing the super Mario game they have put for customers to play for free. The only service I used was their repair service. I gotta say it was an insane waste of time. My sega CD system has problems where games keep skipping, sound is messed up with popping sounds, and graphics in gameplay keep freezing up for a split second over and over. Sometimes a game's intro sequence won't even load up. I sent it to estarland to get a diagnostic and repair. They literally took a whole month just to get to it, only to tell me "there's nothing wrong it. We just cleaned up the laser and it's fine." I get it back and the problems are all still there. Probably even worse now. Their service was totally worthless and I wasted the cost of shipping for it. I checked my sound cable. The games I'm using are genuine game discs that are in new condition. I even have several copies of the same game and try them out just to be sure and the same problems happen with all of them. Please don't send these guys your console for repair. There's a chance they either don't know what they're doing or just didn't even bother looking at my system. I just don't trust them anymore. read more

Rude staff member. Came in to purchase an xbox incase they had gotten any in stock. Would rather help out an small shop like this then a major retailer. But that will be the last time I try to do that with this location. A number of us got in line about 20 mins before the store opened. A guy came and opened the door and greeted us. When we walked in I was first and their was an individual behind the desk. I waited without bugging him, he looked up and said.. Yes? ( as if I was annoying him to want to be a customer). I said I was wondering if you had any new xboxs. He responded "no" sarcastically and just stared at me. Was not polite about it or anything. The guy behind me as I walked out said " why was he so rude about it". So it was not just me who felt the guy in the red shirt behind the counter was being rude. I am not at all leaving this review because they did not have an xbox, I knew it might me the case. I was informed by an associate two weeks ago that he felt they would probably have some come in, but hey hopeful thinking. No need to be rude like that to customers who wanted to support your business. I will not be shopping here again. Technically competent repair staff. Courteous and helpful front desk staff. Overall, the business needs better end to end coordination to improve efficiency and time for repairs: 1. Two week idle hold periods for repairs are simply unacceptable in today's fast moving world, suggest stocking some frequently used parts. 2. The management / customer interaction on yelp need to get their act together, check with technical staff before making promises that cannot be kept. They are on-point with the conditions listed on their website, and they always had a smooth delivery with their items. I once ordered their items separately, and I was like "yo, can you combine these orders? I don't mind paying the separate shipping costs, since it was my mistake," and they executed that flawlessly. They also are very smooth if I made a mistake on purchase and had to cancel. TLDR: The line was extremely long and it took almost 2 hours total (1 hour in line, 45 minutes at the checkout) to buy five games because they have to "find" and "clean" them. Not to mention, most of the games were ordered for pickup two days before. They either botched applying trade in credit to my order or their website had the wrong prices and I didn't get a receipt after I asked. Just don't bother with them, it's worth paying a little more and going to GameStop or ordering online from Amazon or eBay. ------ I will never go back. I placed an online order for a few Xbox games and went to pick it up as well as trade in two games. I also decided to get two more games once I got there. I bought games from eStarland a few years ago and had no issues. The store itself looks clean but it smells very musty and like cigarettes. The trade in process was very easy, they have a set up in the back where you drop off your games. However, the process to pick up orders/buy games is horrible. All together it took over two hours. I waited in line for an hour just to get to the check out counter. Once I got to the check out, I told the cashier that I had an order to pickup and I also wanted to get two more games. I told him the two games and he went in the back to "find them". He returned 15 to 20 minutes later with one of the games - he said he couldn't find the other one. The website said it was in stock. He then went back to "find" the games from my order. He came back out 15 minutes later and said he found them and they were being cleaned. He disappeared again and came back 10 minutes later with them. I also believe I was overcharged and that my trade in credit wasn't applied properly but at that point I didn't care. I didn't want to wait two more hours to talk to a manager and get everything corrected for a couple of dollars. The website may have also had the wrong prices and I was charged differently. Anyway, I got a credit card receipt, but they refused to give me an itemized receipt. Once I got home, I realized that I received the wrong editions/versions of some of the games I ordered. I ordered one of my games with a box and got it without and I also got the wrong edition of a Grand Theft Auto game I ordered. It is the bonus/extra edition which is nice, but it's not what I ordered. I don't understand the whole "finding/cleaning" games process. I don't think they have a good way of managing inventory. Also shouldn't games be ready for sale? It's unacceptable for a transaction for five or so games to take 45 minutes especially when the line for checkout is wrapped around the store. Also since I ordered online for pickup two days before, I do not understand how the order wasn't ready for me to pickup. I don't expect fast two hours pickup like major big box retailers offer since eStarland is a smaller business - but how would they not have it ready in two days? read more

I've shopped here twice. The selection was nice. The first time I went a female staff member was friendly and helpful. The second time a male employee was indifferent and slow. The SNES games I purchased had an annoying warranty sticker over the case screws like I'm not going to check for authenticity and corrosion. The sticker was a pain to get off without damaging the cart. Inside, the games were fine. They had original batteries which was a little disappointing. A quick isopropyl alcohol cleaning of the pins produced a dirty q-tip which was also disappointing. I'm on the fence about shopping here again and it is a shame because I'd rather support a local store. read more

This is a very unprofessional business. I purchased a Sega CD model 2 console and a Sega Genesis model 2 console from them. Along with an RF NES modulator for my TurboGrafx 16. I connected the two units together and the Sega Genesis powered on but not the Sega CD. I tried to connect it several times with no luck. The units were still wrapped separately? I cleaned the connector piece to the Sega Genesis that fits into the Sega CD with q-tips and 90% isopropyl alcohol and it was FILTHY! Really a Grade A refurbished unit, guys??? So, they didn't even bother to test them as a singular unit. They send me an antenna connector for the Genesis? They couldn't put in an AV compatible cable for $5 for such a large purchase?!! The controller's letters were almost all wiped away and the A button was loose. The adapters were third party and weighed lighter than a feather. Not even sure if they would be powerful enough to turn on the system. I contacted them and a bot answered me explaining 'these things happen' and the refund process? Excuse me? No I have made many purchases through out the years and it doesn't just happen. Maybe the fact that they put paper on the bottom of the box and no peanuts or cushion may have made it 'happen'. They were never like this. I purchased from them seven years ago for the same system and it brought me many years of joy and pleasure. No idea who is in charge now but I do not trust them. And on top of that, the RF NES modulator wire is heavily damaged. It works worse than the one I own now! They should address the customer and not copy and paste email responses in emails to there cliente, this wasn't a controller I was buying for $15, it was a complete Sega CD system. If your doing that much volume and not enough staff to support it, you really need to rethink your business practices. I CAME to you solely for your great and trusted business practices. I am not sure what happened to you. If I knew this I would have bought from Lukiegames. Stay away from this business, there are MANY other options out there who are willing to speak with you and not ignore you like you are a number.
