Reuse...recycle...reality As we all go through phases so does some of our items and as much as I don't want to part with any of them it does make room for a much more calmer space. Here at Goodwill I know it will go to good and though I'm not fully aware of the exact process but it will go to a good home versus the trash. The power to reuse item does help support the community in so many ways places like these are resources for some that I've known in the past. It's amazing the amount of items I do find here not just clothing, bags, sporting goods and CD's but a walker for someone in need or a chair just to sit on you never how the level of appreciation a single item can bring and I appreciate the care it shows here. Thank you!

Thrift Shopping in Aiea, O'ahu, Hawaii... One person's trash is another person's treasure! Since I was on this side of the island, I decided to take a look at the Goodwill store. Located at the front left of the Harbor Center entrance, Goodwill is visible from Kamehameha Highway. This is one of the larger Goodwill stores. It's a warehouse type of environment with high ceilings and fluorescent lighting. The 50% items are indicated by a specific color. The color changes every Monday. Also, there are $1.99 items (last chance) and the tag color is different from the 50% items. I've been lucky and have found designer dresses for $10 and even $5. This time, I found a Christmas dove to place on the wreath at my mom's house. Note: Mom was looking for red birds at Ben Franklin, but wasn't able to find any. I thought that this might be a good substitute. Anyway, you can join the Rewards Program with your phone number and get more discounts with each purchase! It's for a good cause! Reuse, recycle, and reduce!

27 November 2020 Downsizing continues! I thought I already wrote a review from a previous visit but, I guess I did not so, here it is. I have been meaning to get rid of a lot of items I no longer use. I typically try to donate items I have not worn in 3-6 months; I consider myself a semi-minimalist so it's not like I buy an excessive amount of clothes to begin with. Although this year has been a bit of an anomaly and I have not been out much to need 'outside clothes', I think it is especially necessary now. Maybe my donated items can be more useful to someone else at a low cost or will just be good enough for textile recycling (the last resting place for clothes if Goodwill is unable to sell them). Both my mother and I boxed up a lot of clothes and shoes that we have not worn and took them to Goodwill. I guess the employees (or are they volunteers?!?) there will sort items and determine what is in good enough condition to sell at the adjoining story and what goes tp other Goodwill locations on the island. Speaking of employees, every time I have gone, they just give me a hand wave indicating "just leave it there"! No other form of acknowledgement! Has this been everyone else's experience? I understand they are busy but gawd! Anyway, whenever the donation center is open, it looks like complete chaos. There are a ton of bins out front of the store and boxes, bags, and other containers of assumingly donated items that are stacked up out front. It is a bit of a nightmare considering the parking lot is so small and always busy. It is often a challenge to navigate the parking lot. On this particular visit, there was a Goodwill truck being loaded with palletized items. The truck added further obstruction to traffic in the parking lot. I cannot speak to the condition of the store since I have never been inside so this review and the rating is strictly for the donation center and the parking situation.

OPEN HOURS: 10am - 6pm Monday - Sunday DONATION HOURS: 9am-5pm Daily Goodwill has multiple locations on Oahu but this review is for their Pearl City facility. I've been going to this Goodwill for many years to shop and to donate my items. I enjoy thrifting and bargain shopping so I drop a visit when ever I can. They're located between Best Buy and Cutter Ford in Pearl City and easy to find. You can see the store front from the main road. Parking can be tight but there's usually plenty of stalls available. They share the parking lot with the customers of other stores in the same area so it can get crowded. Entrance to the store is the door on the right and the garage doors on the left is where you go to donate items. Once you enter, there's a table with hand sanitizer, restrooms to the immediate left and snack machines to the immediate right. Your cash registers and customer service counter lines the left wall and there's plenty of organized clothes racks everywhere. Women's clothing are directly in the front and go all the way to the back wall. Children and men's clothing are to the right side of the building. Accessories, purses, belts, shoes and dressing rooms are on the right side farther in the store. Dressing rooms are finally open for use but were closed for a while due to covid. On the left in the back corner, you'll find housewares, furniture, kitchen and office items, decorations, toys, travel luggage and more. Prices range depending on the type of item it is. They don't put actual prices on the clothing tags anymore and posts signs everywhere that show you prices of each type. For example in the women's section, lingerie/sleep wear costs $4.99 each, pants are $6.99 a pair, dresses and outerwear are $9.99 each and so on. You'll find housewares, furniture, supplies, etc. with price tags on them and range between $1.99 - $50+. Also, pay attention to the announcements made on the speakers for other discounts or upcoming events. Discounts are dependent on what color is chosen for that day and posted on the signs above the clothing racks. You can gain between 20-50% off each item with that discount color. Every Monday is $1.99 sales for certain tag colors that rotate each week. In the past, they've offered 20% off your whole bill for seniors on Tuesdays, Military on Wednesdays and Students on Sundays but I'm not sure if that's still valid at this location. I didn't see any signs advertising these discounts anymore but other locations still do have these discounts. Ask an associate to confirm. If you become a program member, you can earn points with every purchase that can count as discounts for future purchases so take advantage of that if you're a regular shopper. My overall rating for this store is ok. I love the variety they carry and I can always find office clothes for work in great condition or cool decorations for my desk and for the holidays. The prices are alright but some items can be priced over their original value which sucks but that's business I guess. The organization of the store is great and everything is easy to find. Some of the houseware item shelves are a bit messy though and could use regular clean ups. Majority of the items they put out on the shelves are in good condition. There are a few items I've found that were brand new with original tag still attached too. The cleanliness isn't the greatest but it's a thrift store and people drop off old and dusty items all the time so if you have bad allergies, I wouldn't come here because I do feel like I have to shower after shopping. I always douse my hands in hand sanitizer when I'm done and wash clothing items I buy immediately when I get home. The dressing rooms could use a good sweep since I've found hair balls, dust bunnies and clothing that have been tried on but not put away still in the stalls. Store associates are helpful when needed but I've experienced a few with a bit of attitude and the warehouse itself is warm inside. I don't think there's any AC running. They do play music and store advertisements while you shop and I still come to visit from time to time but not as often as I used to.

Cheaper in Japan than what it's retailing for at GW....

Sadly, i'd have to agree with other fellow yelpers...Poor customer service and regular/higher retail priced items = -2 stars. Don't expect to be greeted or helped when unloading 10+ bags for donation.. I was browsing around and found a worn down cami, it was priced at $6.99. At Jeanswarehouse, it's 4.99 and Papaya 2.99 brand new unused! Who is pricing your items!? That wasn't the only item I spotted. 298 yen for HK curtains holders but sold for 2.99...garsh. Thrift shopping aka treasure hunting is supposed to be fun.. For the most part, clothes are semi categorized into women, men, and kids, down to the sizes of xs,s,m,L,xl,2x and 3x. By semi I mean that customers ran sack this place so expect to find sizes mixed up..There are aisles full of household goods and random items. My latest visit I passed a couple of workers with no interaction.. Gail rang me up and asked if I was part of the rewards program. I signed up immediately as I am currently into living a sustainable lifestyle. My mission was to find leopard printed tops and baby items. I found some baby clothes that were a bit pricey to be sold at Goodwill.. Luckily certain colored tags had an additional discount that day. As for the leopard printed tops, I found some but not exactly what i particularly wanted.. All in all, I'm bound to come back once or twice a month.

I stopped by to drop off some items for donation because I had it sitting at home for over a month. I normally go to the Salvation Army, but there was none near to my house. They have an enormous warehouse here with lots of donations! It's great to see the amount of people that donate rather than throw away perfectly usable things. I should have taken a picture of some of the questionable things I saw though, but at the time, I was just too baffled. First of all, I feel that some of the items are way over priced, for things that they are pretty much getting for free! Here's just a few things I disagreed with: - A half used bottle of Dove lotion for $3! That's not only disgusting, but very unsanitary. - A Woolworth photo frame for $3. It still had the original price on it, which was $2.50! - and things from target dollar section, being sold for the same price target was selling it for? Hmmm... Anyway, just my thoughts. Hope this helps someone...

I came here with hubby before picking up our daughter from school. Parking was limited and luckily we found a spot close. As I entered, I didn't like the fact that there was no air conditioning. I literally almost passed out from sweating without my hydro flask. I always bring it to work because I do sweat and get dehydrated but they do turn on the ac much later as the morning gets warm. This is unacceptable. I can't survive in that much heat and humidity. Second issue was the quality of clothing. I typically don't shop for clothing at a second hand store just because I noticed oil stains and holes in some of the clothing. Hubby scored some clothing for our daughter mostly jeans and a sweatshirt. I still rather buy a few clothing items at Savers. I don't typically hit up second hand stores but when I do, I consider the quality of the clothes and if there's ac and people do end up passing out of extreme heat and if one is not hydrated, the body can go into dehydration mode. Anyway, I literally wanted to leave the store. Nothing interested me.

Times of operation for the general public

You need to fix your times of operation to show you discriminate do to age and can't come in until 10am. There's no reason to be sorry, stop wasting people's time and fix it. Horrible customer service and age discrimination. In a time when every customers is needed to keep a business operating and money flowing, you never turn away a paying customer. How Stupid.

The doctors, nurses, CNA's and other staff helped make my birth experience go as smoothly as possible. They were all professional, compassionate, and gave me 5-star worthy care. My favorite part was our celebratory meal we got to enjoy on the second night of our stay. I was fortunate enough to be on my way home after only 2 nights. The reason for deducting 1 star is because my discharge experience could've gone better. We went from 2 blissful days of feeling taken care of and pampered, to feeling like we were being rushed to move out. An older Asian lady (not sure what her role is at Kapiolani but I know she definitely wasn't a nurse) came into our room and started basically telling us it's time to get ready to go. She asked my husband where our car seat was. We explained to her, per the instructions from our RN that was last taking care of us, we were waiting for the pharmacy to call to let us know my prescription was ready, then my husband will grab the car seat on the way to the pharmacy. Then we would have someone from their staff ensure that we buckled baby in correctly, and then proceed with discharge. This lady started yapping and bossing my husband around, telling him to bring the car around up front and we'll all walk out together. She then proceeded to call the pharmacy to basically tell them to hurry up and fill my prescription. Her presence caused me unnecessary stress. We felt like we were being hurried to clear out the room. On top of that, I was not offered a wheelchair to our car. I had to walk, 2 days postpartum, freshly stitched up and sore, to our car parked in front at guest drop off. Despite this experience I'm not letting it overshadow my overall experience at Kapiolani. The nurses were so sweet and supportive and made me feel like a rock star first time mom after I gave birth to my daughter in just 11 hours. I left feedback for kapiolani and I do hope they take steps to improve their discharge process for future patients.

And specifically, to women and children in need. Surprisingly, I couldn't find many places that fit these specifications till I came across the the Women's & Family Shelter, an emergency shelter from the Institute for Human Services (IHS). IHS is an independent, local 501c3 nonprofit organization that makes sure 100% of all donations stays in Hawaii. Drop off was really simple. The donation drop off area is open Monday thru Friday from 0800-1600. You can park your vehicle temporarily right in front of the garage while you offload your items. On their website, there are 5 different ways you can help: 1. Monetary Donation. A link is provided on the website for your convenience. This can be a one time donation or you can set up a monthly donation. 2. An In-Kind Donation. The donation center is located around the corner of IHS at the garage entrance on Kaamahu Place. On the website " Wish List" you can find a list of what type of items are in need. Items needed are gently used clothing (all types) household toiletries (even makeup), school items, food, baby related items to name a few. Basically just think of what you use and need and eat on a daily basis to give yourself an idea of what you could donate to help another person/child. 3. Planned Giving, such as bequests from an estate plan or will, real estate, personal property, etc. 4. Cooperate and foundation giving, such as scholarships, grants, direct donations, etc. 5. Volunteer. There are many different types of volunteer opportunities, such as tutoring children, kitchen help, serving meals, working at the health clinic, sorting donations, etc. There's an opportunity for everyone to give in whatever form you choose. So instead of letting your drawers, closet, garage, shoe rack, etc get cluttered with unused or unwanted items, why not give it back to the community to help another person or child out? Or if you're not ready to part with your treasures a monetary gift is always appreciated. Donating my belongings not only made my house much tidier, but I was also happy knowing my items had a 2nd life while helping to meet the needs of a person/child right here in Hawaii.

Magical Train Ride Adventure!…read more We absolutely loved our experience on the historic Hawaiian Railway -- such a unique and beautiful way to explore Oahu's west side! From start to finish it was pure aloha vibes and family fun! Prices: Standard train ride tickets were around $18 for adults and $13 for kids (ages 2-12) (kids under 2 are free!), and we felt it was worth every penny for the experience and memories! Parking & Arrival: There's plenty of free parking right at the train station, which made arriving super easy and stress-free. We got there a little early to soak in the atmosphere before departure! Hours & Tour Times: The train runs on Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays with departures like 12:00 PM and 3:00 PM, plus a couple of other times depending on the day -- perfect for planning your afternoon. Length & Route: The whole ride is about 90 minutes round-trip, slowly chugging through scenic parts of Oahu's Leeward coast with beautiful views of the ocean and mountains. The narration from the guide made the ride even more interesting! Stops & Fun: One of the best parts was the ice cream stop in Ko Olina -- we all hopped off for a cool treat at a little plaza and waved to neighbors along the way! Photo Ops Everywhere: There were so many spots perfect for photos -- seaside views, cute vintage train cars, and open-air seating made for great candid shots! Plus, we barely saw anyone else there during our ride, so it felt like we had the whole adventure to ourselves. Tips: * Arrive early to grab good seats and explore the train yard * Bring a camera (or phone!) -- the scenery is AMAZING * Don't forget a little extra cash for ice cream! Overall: This was one of our favorite experiences on Oahu -- kid-friendly, super scenic, and just plain fun. We're already talking about going back again next time!

It's a slow-paced easy ride with a narration of the area's past history and current status. Once the train entered onto the Ko Olina property the views were beautiful, especially up the sea cost. Passengers on both sides of the railcars switch seats to provide equal viewing opportunities. The seats are hard wood, so bring cushions. Overall a nice diversion and unique way to see the leeward (west) coastline of Oahu. Good for children especially. Staff very hospitable.

Community service followed by meditation on the beach. Awesome!!…read more I learned about Travel2Change through my UH cohort. As a second year grad student, this was my first offsite team building event that I attended. Travel2Change is a non-profit organization that offers various activities focused on sustainability and giving back to the Hawaiian culture on the islands of Kauai, Maui, and O'ahu. From a beach clean-up followed by a sunset yoga class, to a trek into the native forest to protect indigenous wildlife, there's an activity to fit your passions! Just visit their website to explore. On Saturday's from 10:30am to 12:00pm, Jonathan from Yoga Loves Mana hosts the beach clean-up and yoga. He provided the bags and gloves for the clean-up. In 15 minutes, we collected four bags of litter from the grassy area and shoreline between the Aquarium to the lifeguard house just beyond the barefoot beach cafe. This was a great way to give back, keep paradise beautiful, and to show others the spirit of Aloha Āina! After the clean-up, we did an hour of Vinyasa style yoga in the shaded grassy area underneath the swaying palm trees and were sprinkled with a little bit of rain every now and then (it felt really good!). Jonathan has 15 years of experience and his teaching skills were kind and gentle for a few of us beginners. He made it very clear that the session was about the spiritual energy you feel from your core and put back into the universe, known as "Mana", and to not worry if you're inexperienced. We all felt very comfortable and he did a wonderful job guiding us on breathing techniques and stretching throughout the hour. Check out their website to see what they offer. Let friends from out-of-state know how they can see Hawai'i from a different perspective or share this with your friends and family from the Island. I felt really great after the clean-up and mediation through yoga. I highly recommend it!
