One man's trash is another man's treasure. I'm going back home now (using predictive text to reach 85 characters lol)

Never been to the Beretania outlet store since it was out of the way, but since my friend and I are now on a budget, and they moved near the airport, it is much more convenient for me to go. I never really went thrift shopping, but this is a total different experience than going to regular thrift stores. They rotate bins every hour or so with new stuff, so vintage sellers stay all day to scoop up finds that they can resell. I just go just to see if there is anything to get for myself since some clothes are designer or new and some good electronic finds, but one needs to find time to scavenge through the pile of clothes and things there. It's somewhat clean, but when I went yesterday, my legs felt itchy from the dusty floor. Of course, I soak and wash any clothes I find. Each clothing is only $1.50 each, or 12 for $15.99, way cheaper than regular thrift stores. The more items per category you buy, the more discounted the items are. I noticed that the buyers there are very militant: no taking pictures of videos (I didn't see the sign but the customers told me no pictures of videos as posted on the wall when they saw me taking a pix with my phone of the bins of clothes in there), and don't dare touch or look at any piles or mounds of items or clothes on the floor or in a cart that is next to the walls because there is an unspoken policy in this community that it is someone's and nobody will touch what someone else is holding for themselves. Kinda a nice unspoken policy in there, not like Walmart on black friday where they try to steal what's in your cart. Sure enough, my friend got an empty cart, and we placed it with things we found near the wall while we looked through the bins on the other side of the room to return finding nothing taken from it. Lots of parking, but they fill up, but there are street parking right outside their parking lot as well.

Probably one of the most SELFISH things Goodwill has done is raise their prices on merchandise by implementing a per pound price list. The items sold here are DONATED to Goodwill. From what I understand, the OUTLET is the last chance for the merchandise to sell before it goes to the DUMP! How awful to think that raising prices on used goods will cause less purchases at the Outlet. Less purchases will lead to Goodwill paying for more loads to dump at the landfill. Nobody wins. Is thrifting here fun? Sure is, but watching people putting things back because they CAN'T AFFORD IT?! At a GOODWILL OUTLET?!! C'mon maaan!!!

Ask the Community - Goodwill Outlet Store

Do they have specific bins for baby/kids clothes or is it all mixed into the adult bins?

It appeared all the soft goods were mixed together when I was there

Not so sure what's going on now but back in the day they were filled with classes for all ages and mine was learning Japanese here at the Community Center. Every day after school I'd come here for class and it's not only Japanese but the culture as well with origami, writing kanji with the brush pen "shodo" called "shūji" including other arts the my mom still treasure to this day. I've had difficulty visiting here as they closer early 10am to 3pm daily with exception of Sunday and Monday are closed, donations are accepted on Mondays (can be dropped of at the main office) & Fridays only. Well to the shop...not exactly sure if you can call this a thrift store though it is used I couldn't really say it's at a cheaper price but then again they are a non-profit organization and I know growing up here it's a fabulous place for us all. The thrift store is neatly organized for having a bunch of items...everything from clothing, houseware, kitchen items, craft, plants and even beanie babies. Sadly I didn't find anything that would fit my needs though will keep this place in mind for future donations as recycled and re-usable items looking for a new home is best used. You must have a mask to enter as this a very small place and I'm sure they appreciate it. Thank you!

Taking time off to work to declutter. Lots to go through and get rid of. I figured instead of…read moredonating everything, which would be easiest, I'd try to sell some of my things and try consignment. That's how I found Eco Town. I've walked pass this store several times over the years at Ala Moana and never knew what it was. They do have some really nice high end items that are being sold on eBay. Got to Ala Moana Tuesday morning at 10 am when they opened up. My family and I were buzzed into the store. I said I wanted to sell items to them. We were told only bags, purses, muumuus, aloha shirt ok, but no shoes or toys. The three items I could sell to them was a new with tags Michael kors purse I bought in 2020 that I never used. People online were selling the same purse at $255, a 2013 San Diego comic con original Batman cast swag bag and a new and unused Victoria secret marketing bag. The very sweet clerk put the items into a bin, gave me number and said it would take 30-mins to review the items. We took a few minutes to browse the store and they do have some really nice items. Really good place to come to if you were eying a specific LV purse a few years ago that sold out before you could get to it. It might be here for a few $100 less. Im told that LVs in good condition tend to keep their value. I didn't have breakfast so we headed to the food court. While eating, got a phone call that they were done with evaluating the items. I kind of knew what I was going to be offered for my MK purse and I got a bit more than I expected. For the other two items, I'm surprised I got an offer but they were in really good condition. All in all, I made $51. This was a great learning experience and we will definitely be back to both sell and shop. Next, looking forward to trying a consignment closet.

I never ever considered shopping at a second hand store let alone to sell my items that I no longer need/use that I usually do donate rather than to just toss it away is always a great solution not just to make some extra money but just knowing that it's not the end of the road for many loved items. If Eco-Town Select which is located ocean side in Ala Moana Center is located on the street level which is one level below the mall level sounds familiar they do have Eco Town in Iwilei which does buy more standard item while this Ala Moana location is much more selected. It's understandable and quite refreshing to see their inventory of upscale and brand name items along with more popular trend items as well. While I was browsing around I was more interested in some of their jewelry more costume ones that were holiday themed that I do have an idea for its use is cool to see along with vintage Japan Airline bags, various brand Aloha Shirts, totes, shoes and even Disney ears which I have a similar one that lights up. The staff there is friendly as they greet each guests that walks in the door and even made sure that they're always open to purchase our items. Small business like this that gives items life is great as the price isn't only that's nice but the selection of item that's selected as well. Thank you!
