Located right in front of Starbucks though hard to miss makes it an easy drop off location so that any of your unused items don't to the landfill as my crutches was only used for a week and wish hardwood floors our vacuum is outdated and are no longer needed. Cleaning house in the New Year…read more.. It's a good thing to purge and give things that you don't need to others who might need them. When you donate to Goodwill, you can get a receipt for a tax write off and even get a coupon for 20 percent off one full priced item in their store! The Goodwill pod at Windward Mall is gone, so, I had to go to Windward City Shopping Center where there is a wooden structure... Like a little house. When I went, the staff was at lunch. The sign said that they'd be back at 12:30pm. I did a few errands and came back. Wow... What a difference half an hour makes! When I returned, there were so many bags of donations outside the door, on the steps, and lines up in front of the building! The poor guy was surrounded! I started to help him by bringing some of the bags closer to the door. Then, he asked if I was waiting for a receipt. I replied, "Yes!" He asked how many bags I had and wrote my receipt. I continued to help him and he said that he could do the rest. Wow! Well, I feel like I've been rewarded for cleaning my house. Hope to clean more soon! Note: closed on Sundays

Green Drop Hawaii Kai location is in the corner of the huge "Park and Ride" lot sharing spaces with Goodwill and a Reynolds Recycling container. Though this Green Drop Hawaii Kai location is literally across from the Towne Center location the giving never stops as it's almost filled to capacity. Open daily makes it an easy place to drop off and the staff are there so friendly and willing to take it off your hands. Thank you!

They fed us 3 meals a day and helped my parents find employment and budget their money. Eventually they helped us get into Weinberg village transitional homeless shelter in Waimanalo. We left Weinberg after 2 years and started renting a home in Pearl city and eventually we had our finances set well enough that in 2017 we bought our first home together. I was so ashamed to say that I lived here when I was in high school but looking back on it today as a grown man I have to say that IHS was an absolute blessing for me and my family. I was looking for a place where I could donate some of my belongings that could be of better use…read morethan just sitting in my closet and drawers being unused, but I wanted to make sure the donation would go directly to the people in need right here in Hawaii. And specifically, to women and children in need. Surprisingly, I couldn't find many places that fit these specifications till I came across the the Women's & Family Shelter, an emergency shelter from the Institute for Human Services (IHS). IHS is an independent, local 501c3 nonprofit organization that makes sure 100% of all donations stays in Hawaii. Drop off was really simple. The donation drop off area is open Monday thru Friday from 0800-1600. You can park your vehicle temporarily right in front of the garage while you offload your items. On their website, there are 5 different ways you can help: 1. Monetary Donation. A link is provided on the website for your convenience. This can be a one time donation or you can set up a monthly donation. 2. An In-Kind Donation. The donation center is located around the corner of IHS at the garage entrance on Kaamahu Place. On the website " Wish List" you can find a list of what type of items are in need. Items needed are gently used clothing (all types) household toiletries (even makeup), school items, food, baby related items to name a few. Basically just think of what you use and need and eat on a daily basis to give yourself an idea of what you could donate to help another person/child. 3. Planned Giving, such as bequests from an estate plan or will, real estate, personal property, etc. 4. Cooperate and foundation giving, such as scholarships, grants, direct donations, etc. 5. Volunteer. There are many different types of volunteer opportunities, such as tutoring children, kitchen help, serving meals, working at the health clinic, sorting donations, etc. There's an opportunity for everyone to give in whatever form you choose. So instead of letting your drawers, closet, garage, shoe rack, etc get cluttered with unused or unwanted items, why not give it back to the community to help another person or child out? Or if you're not ready to part with your treasures a monetary gift is always appreciated. Donating my belongings not only made my house much tidier, but I was also happy knowing my items had a 2nd life while helping to meet the needs of a person/child right here in Hawaii.

Green Drop is one of the place I go to drop my unwanted items though unwanted is a gray area of the feeling to let go many of these items are really tough just knowing that it has the potential of finding a new home brings me great comfort of giving it that chance for others to enjoy. All items collected will go to the American Red Cross as each trailer place across the island has different charities its dedicated to and you can't miss this huge Green Drop trailer in Kaneohe as it's located in the parking lot of Windward Mall which I found once I drove around the other side of Ross near the Regal Theater where there's also a Blood Bank as well. Stop by this convenient location as it's all going to a wonderful cause. Thank you!

It is hard to rate IHS. Recently, my work organization did a service project here to help with…read moresorting clothes. I write this review to spread words out there for IHS. They can always use helping hands. So if your organization such as work, church, or whatever it is, do contact IHS for good cause. I do understand that we have mixed emotion about homeless etc. but sometimes you do for people who are wanting to help who are in need. So think of it as you are helping the good people. I spent 3 hours on a Saturday and staff were so appreciative and offered us snacks and water. Oh I learned that this location is for women. IHS on Nimitz is for men. And I'm not going lie, when I got to this location to check in at the counter I didn't feel safe. But once I went inside the building and met with other volunteers I was okay.

Helping Hands was so much closer to where we live compared to Salvation Army or Goodwill. I like that Helping Hands is truly a nonprofit organization because they don't sell your donated goods to the people who need them. People can come get the goods for free at helping hands. Staff were always very friendly and helpful with unloading my car. They are also very good about giving me the tax write off forms. (Salvation Army has you go to a website to get tax form and I couldn't even create an account successfully on the website. Kept getting error message.) Helping hands drop off times are Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM so the drop off window is pretty limited.

I always refer my clients there to get free household goods such as bedding, pots and pans, dishes, etc. I always drop off my donations there. Every Christmas - they have Adopt A Family and I love seeing our clients get items they wouldn't be able to get for their family since it is so expensive living here in Hawaii. They also have the Ready To Learn program which gives students school supplies for the upcoming year. It was so well organized and it felt so great to help our furloughed hotel workers. After the event, I had reached out to Phil, their Executive Director to see if I would be able to schedule an event for our company. They were booked up through the end of the year and so he put me in touch with Ami, their Project Coordinator. She said that she would put me on a waitlist. I appreciated the effort, but really wasn't expecting to hear back. A few weeks later Ami called me and told me they had a last minute cancellation and asked if I were still interested in hosting an event. I was so grateful for the call. We just had our event this weekend. Ami was so great to work with. She also put me in touch with Jay, who was their awesome data specialist. He helped us with the electronic survey and RSVP. They were both so awesome to work with. We had partnered with the Waikiki Community Center. We were able to distribute food to 200 of our team members plus 100 of early education and residents of Ainahau Vista Senior Housing. It was probably the best day I've had since the start of the pandemic. We were able to see our awesome team members that we haven't seen in eight months. They were so very grateful for this kind gesture. I am so thankful to have met Phil, Ami and Jay. They are an amazing team and the work they do have been truly impactful to so many! If you want to do something that feels really great, go out and volunteer for one of these events. You can see and feel how much this means to the people who really need help now, more than ever.
