Located on the Ground Level of the new Civil Beat Plaza, the Grand Opening was at 9:30am on 9-1-23, Friday. The long line was formed way before 8:45am when I arrived. I parked in the free, open surface parking lot on Wilhelmina Rise, which filled up quickly. Free Refreshments, chances to win gift certificates from nearby Kaimuki businesses (examples: Chubbies Burgers, Daily Whisk Matcha, Cowcow's Tea, Koa Pancake House, Otto Cake, Broken Rice, Atsuka Nabe & Shabu Shabu, and $50 at The Surfing Pig), live music, and gift cards for the first 100 customers were the draw. At 10am, the first 300 people were allowed in the store. I happened to be #175. No gift card for me, but I got a free Donut from Zippy's, and a raffle ticket! Thank you! I like that Helping Hands is truly a nonprofit organization because they don't sell your donated goods to the people who need them. People can come get the goods for free at helping hands. Staff were always very friendly and helpful with unloading my car. They are also very good about giving me the tax write off forms. (Salvation Army has you go to a website to get tax form and I couldn't even create an account successfully on the website. Kept getting error message.) Helping hands drop off times are Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM so the drop off window is pretty limited.

The store is FOR profit, but does donate some items to a non for profit. This location offers some unusual merchandise due to the international population in Hawaii. I found several interesting paintings and vintage Christmas decor. My daughter likes to find craft supplies for the kids. The prices have gone way up on some merchandise since my visit last year. The store is well organized with most of the inventory being clothing. The parking on the lower level is hard to come by, but there is plenty of parking in the upstairs parking garage. If you donate something, they will give you a coupon for 20% off. Also, on Tuesdays, seniors receive 30% off. I've never bought anything after several visits. Time would be better spent at the beach.

Stacey was the friendly, helpful, efficient worker. She inputted my phone number onto the tablet (after I gave her my bag of goods) and I got my receipt right away - since I'm in the system already. I'll print it out later for tax time. If you want to do a quick Donation in Manoa, this is a convenient place to visit!

Don't get me wrong it's not stuff well in my opinion that's not great or reuseable just items that had been collected over time and this shopaholic does have quite a bit of stuff lol! Luckily the newest Green Drop location is very conveniently located up in Manoa Marketplace in yup Manoa and you can find this massive trailer in the back of the shopping center near Longs. Especially if you are there when people are donating as donors will often block the every car in the small lot by parking in the middle and having volunteers help unload. The parking is one way which creates the problem. I strongly recommend parking on Young street to avoid getting blocked in. Hours are very limited. Now on to the good: - Friendly volunteers with good organizational skills. - Low prices for most items especially home goods and they also test the electronic home goods. - Lots of seasonal items and a fair amount of non seasonal arts and crafts. - Air conditioned. - Very central location for people who live in town and you can make this a thrift shop crawl as as Central Union's thrift shop is 1/4 of a mile away and Goodwill is 1/2 a mile away. - Tax deductible if you donate. So you may only have $20 in your pocket, but that is enough to walk out of here with plenty of quality goods.

It's not too hard to get to, and once you get there, you drive in to their garage and there's a pull-through spot where you can stop and drop off your donations. Every time I've gone, there's been a worker there who responds quickly and comes over to my car with a rolling cart to help collect donations. They always ask me if I need a receipt for donation purposes. It's quick and simple and I don't have to do much more than unload my trunk. I've never been behind more than one car, and usually there's no line at all. Easy, helpful spot to donate your goods or to buy new-to-you items.
