Goodwill in Somers is a place that I frequent on a weekly basis. Their prices are incredible and you can find a wonderful selection of clothes and shoes. They do not have jewelry though which is a point off for me. As far as their bags go, they are usually only $10 at the very most. Like most Goodwills, they do have a sale every day where certain color tags are half off and on Sundays, that color is only one dollar! I can't even tell you the phenomenal deals that I have gotten on Sundays, including designer namebrand shoes. However, whoever is pricing the pocketbooks and wallets is delusional. I say this after years of experience. There is no way that a wallet with huge tears in it is worth $10, the same price that a nice leather handbag costs. They also price name brands like LeSportSac, Jessica Simpson and Vera Bradley under $5, yet ripped bags or bags with random hotel names on them for $10. A positive was that their bags never cost more than $10. All of the other Goodwills I've gone to have their bag prices go up to $25. However, upon my last trip, I did see some bags that were priced $15 and $25. Again, these were no name bags that were not in great condition. I really think they need somebody else to be pricing these specific items. Their clothes are extremely well priced and their shoes again only go up to $10 at the most. They have brands like Michael Kors and DKNY in great shape for $10 or under which is incredible! They have beautiful jackets and they are all under $20. The housewares and the trinkets are also usually priced well, but again, you will find a random chintzy item costing six dollars when it should only be $.99. For the most part, the prices are good, but whoever is doing the pricing just doesn't seem to be consistent and understand what they're doing. read more

Despite their decent selection of vast variety of household items and clothing, this is the only Goodwill that I've encountered that will actually turn you away DURING donation hours saying they've processed enough donations for the day! What we've intended to be a charitable contribution only ended up going to who knows where in a Drop Box. Too many efforts were wasted reattempting this store. When my friend was searching through the clothing for possible purchase she encountered numerous articles with hair embedded in it from the donors. Store has fallen off lately--the prices are high, there's not much in terms of new inventory, and when you do find something decent the lines are always unreasonable--often they have one employee working at a snail's pace. I can't tell you how many times I've considered buying something, looked at the line/amount of cashiers working, and walked right out. Plus the lack of fitting rooms is frustrating when there's a (new) policy of no returns. You're better off taking a ride up to Savers or going on eBay. read more

I have been going to this Goodwill location for a very long time and the customer service has gotten worse. When you ask the manager of the store a question, her attitude is never welcoming or helpful. My mother had a situation with the employee ringing her up. My mother thought that she was finished ringing up some items because she grabbed everything and was counting them and setting them down. When my mother went to put the stuff in her shopping bag, the cashier snatched the items out of my mother's hands, rudely. The line is always long and unorganized. I love the Somers location of Goodwill! Since visiting New York more frequently, I've had some great Goodwill NY/NJ experiences, and this one was no exception! I was super lucky to stumble upon an older (pre Steve Madden buyout) Betsey Johnson dress in excellent condition for just $10 because it was a half price day for the tag color. I practically had a breakdown of happiness in the middle of the store! Wow, what a find! As I've mentioned before, Goodwill is definitely keen on the fact that millennial trendsetters with money to spend are also among their clientele, so the prices aren't as cheap as what you'd find at say, a Salvation Army or Savers. That being said, a Betsey Johnson dress for ten bucks is remarkable to say the least! The store itself is clean and well kept. I noticed that this location has a smaller inventory than the massive sister location I also reviewed up in Wappinger's Falls, but that doesn't mean there aren't great quality items here as well! Extra shoutout to Helen at the register, who was very friendly and helpful when I was checking out my items. I look forward to many more thrifting adventures here soon! read more

Where to begin....we've been visiting quite a few Goodwill stores in an effort to get items for a wedding. This one, by far, seems to have an attitude that importance isn't on a customer. Also, one might say it is an ableist store. The store is HUGE with a lot of potential with the majority of it being clothing. Yet, they have created an inaccessible dressing room situation where the doors are locked so customers cannot enter. Why? We were told due to someone having urinated in the dressing rooms. So, apparently, any customer from now on is a potentially going to use the dressing rooms as a bathroom (everyone pays for the someone doing something). It's really faulty thinking. I know every Goodwill I've been to doesn't permit clothing returns, and I'm assuming this one is the same, so if you want to try on one of the more expensive items, good luck with that. We were also told bathrooms were off limits because someone did something like put silverware (or utensils?) down the toilet or sink drain. Again, every customer has to pay for something someone else did...which leads me to this conclusion when I realized that, as a disabled person, I was unable to walk a full cart to a handicap parking space because this Goodwill also made it so carts cannot leave the store. I had to go back and forth five times to get the items to my car (it was a challenge). How I ended up seeing the entirety of the situation - as a customer, you're presumed to be some sort of cart thief, criminal, dressing room urinator, and bathroom destroyer. They certainly don't make it easy for anyone who has physical issues who might need to use a bathroom or take a cart to their car due to physical disabilities. I was kind of surprised that in such a nice shopping area that such measures are taken at a place that makes money from donations of others. It was quite shocking to see a Goodwill do such things when so many are known for supplying jobs for people with disabilities. It was also shocking that all customers have to pay for something one person probably did, and it's inexcusable to have a store mainly filled with clothing which won't permit people to try them on in a dressing room. Anyways, I doubt I'd ever go back because I guess I don't like walking in a place that presumes the worst of customers. Outside of this, we did find some things, but the home goods section could use more items. If the dressing rooms had been opened, perhaps we would've bought more, but who wants to risk throwing money away on guessing? I'd highly recommend that the dressing rooms are reopened since the store is primarily clothing, and....I wonder too if the reason someone used the dressing room as a bathroom was out of desperation due to the bathroom being shut down. As someone who has worked in customer service in a managerial position, management made some crucial decisions that need to change, and I truly hope that the changes are made for the good of the store. read more

Very over-priced, I rather stick to the ones in CT. They have more modern items than vintage for my taste. The staff was also a tad rude, I just asked if they can tell me the prices of the items. I felt dismissed and rushed. I went specifically for slacks and did find 2 however couldn't try them on as the fitting rooms are still closed. The store IS very organized and clean, and they have brand names like Ann Taylor, Loft, Banana Republic but I didn't come to a second hand store to pay regular price for used items. read more

I have shopped and donated to this location since it opened years ago, not only for a bargain but to support the mission, and must say that it has really gone downhill. My most recent visit was yesterday. The line was very long and went from the front (one cashier - on a Saturday?) to the back of the store, where the closed for months fitting rooms are located. Why are they closed? when 3/4 of the store is clothing and there is a No Returns policy. Another observation I have made over the past few months is that the donation bins are overflowing but the inventory in store is very limited. I understand that not every item can be shelved but Where are all the items going? While dropping off a donation earlier in the year I asked about a toy I saw in a bin and was told by an employee that she could not sell it to me as they trash all toys! What?!? i never write reviews but felt the need to put this out there to hopefully see improvements in this community location. If they could take a page from the manual they follow in the GW CT stores (they are very organized and have items available in all categories) it would be a huge improvement. The one good thing is that the staff has been friendly when I've had any interactions with them. I'm sorry to say I will not be supporting them at this location any longer. read more

Rude, unhelpful staff and crappy selection. On top of that they seem to go out of their way (and seem gleeful about it) to NOT take donations. 8 out of 10 items attempt to deliver (all in excellent condition some even still sealed ) staff stand waiting to say they dint take it. I am straw was tried donate some nice Xmass figures and jewelry boxes and was told "we don't accept Xmass items at this time". What a rotten dump of a place. read more

I appreciate Goodwill in general, but at this location at least the donation hours are not the same as the store hours, and it doesn't say this anywhere, not online, not on the phone message about hours, not even on the store itself. Overall, every goodwill store I've been in is pretty dingy looking. You can find some good hidden treasures though, you just have to hunt. Today I found an oil burner for $5.99. I have an almost identical one that I paid full price for in a store in the Palisades Mall for $40. Needless to say I was happy with my find! read more

Be prepared to wait on line for...ever. As both the average customer as well as employee want to talk for minutes about each item and their sister in law, the dog, weather, diseases, etc. 13.00 for a sport jacket is a steal, but after 25 minutes in line it becomes less of one. read more

Constant issue at the store is they don't rotate stock they are clothes that have been on the shelf or rack for a month straight without rotating and they only bring out one new rock every morning and afternoon but I think that should change I don't know horrible experience I've had at the store they are entire need of new management or someone to take control of that floor because it is without a doubt terrible read more

So this was my last experience at this store. I've donated to them for years and if there was no one at the drop off I just left the donation. Last time I did this a young man approached me as I got back into my car and asked me what I took.????? I said I dropped a donation in the center and he kept insisting that I took something. He obviously was impressed with his position as the donation clerk and after some fifteen/twenty minutes of us standing outside the store next to my car he finally had the demeanor of a state trooper who was letting me off easy with a warning not to do that next time. Told me I couldn't just leave a donation, I had to wait til someone was there. To be honest, the whole absurdity didn't hit me until I was in Stop and Shop - I've never been accused of stealing anything in my entire life- much less at a Goodwill donation center. I was livid. I called the store, asked to speak to a manager and a woman answered. I told her what happened and she asked what he looked like - well, he looked like a kid who couldn't get a real job but I didn't say that- and she apologized. Now I donate to the center in Danbury where the donation center is on the outside of the store, someone is always there, the merchandise is well organized and the personnel are friendly. read more

I browse around quite often before going to Stop and Shop. The staff is not too friendly except for the older woman at the register. Recently while browsing I came across a nice ladies wallet with two prices on it. One was $3.99 and the other $1.99, I went to the register and there was a woman there that I've never seen before. There was no line so I approached her with the wallet and said there are 2 prices and showed it to her, and said I hope I get it for the lower price. She got very obnoxious and said, this is a good wallet, and its $3.99, because of her attitude I quickly said I didn't want it. My guess is that she wanted it for herself. Little does she know that I know, after afew weeks that goods are not sold, they dispose of them. It's no loss to them.. So what was the reason for her attitude. Don't know.... read more

The employees here are lovely. We went today to drop off a big donation of books. Driving up, we were nervous they were closed because all the lights were out (a storm last night knocked out power to much of the region). The doors were locked, but a friendly woman opened the door and confirmed they were indeed closed. But she said she could take our donations anyway, and another friendly employee even helped hold doors for us while we made our drop off. They easily could have just said "sorry, we're closed," but they didn't, and we're so grateful. Good people. read more

I shop Goodwill in many different locations, this store is particularly clean and VERY well organized. The employees are prompt to be helpful when needed, yet not pesky when you're just browsing. The manager seemed well versed, knowledgeable and was delightful to speak with. Although it's not one of the larger stores I've visited, the selection was plentiful. They deserve that 5th star for sure! read more

I wish this place was kinder to employees and customers. Some are very friendly while some clearly are not. The only nice people there were one brunette girl and one other cashier who had a smile on her face and didn't have an attitude. The associate was probably the nicest young lady I've seen there and I haven't seen her since. I hope they hire more people like her as I miss the smiles and kindness she showed me every time I was there. They had one guy who was kind but a bit stuck up and hit on me multiple times. Brought 5 bags of clothing with no one at the donation desk. I looked down the hall and called for the 2 employees conversing but they ignored me. I went into the store to speak with someone, but there was ONE register open with a line at the end of an aisle. Please do not donate your things to them. I have donated a lot of things to other Goodwill locations and non-profits and have never had a bad experience - until I went here. I came in with 2 heavy boxes of holiday stuff from my mom's house after Mom moved to assisted living. First complaint, there is NO designated parking for drop off. Ridiculous, since they have plenty of parking. This just illustrates how little they care about their customers. So I drag 2 heavy boxes in, had to struggle to open the 2 double doors by myself, while the incredibly rude teenage girl at the counter doing nothing watched me, never offering to simply open the door. When I got in and asked about donating she said they couldn't take the holiday decorations. OK, I get it but there were non-holiday items in the boxes but she didn't care to hear it. I guess I looked dumbfounded because a very nice customer offered to walk me over to the actual donation area so I could ask them. The girl at the counter never said anything more, no thank you no sorry, nothing. When I got to the donation area I was met by two more rude teenagers. They must be required to do community service at the high school here because none of these kids wanted to be there and they made it very clear. Long story short, the 2 idiots wouldn't accept anything either and yelled at me, "its a rule its not our fault!"They didn't even offer to help me carry the heavy boxes back to my car. I asked them to throw the stuff away and they said they couldn't. ???? I walked away furious. I have always had the exact opposite experience when donating items to non-profits, most are grateful for the donations as that is how they make their money. I will NEVER go back here again. In fact, I stopped on the way home at a church run mental health thrift store and was treated like gold. Someone needs to teach these kids how to be polite. How sad. read more
