Rude, indifferent employees and overpriced merchandise-quick synopsis. Maybe that's enough. I haven't been to this location previously. It's a larger location than other Goodwill stores. My first observation of the store was seeing a woman asking if an employee might watch her cart while she used the restroom. He ignored her request. I suggested that she could place some larger objects across the top- It worked. I was happy. later on that that it paid off for her. I went over to see if there was some yarn, Yes, but, every skein, except for one, was $4.10 a piece. Really. I can go to Michael's and get the same Loops and Thread yarn for 2.00 less. Wow. I went up to the check stand. The customer in front of me kindly let me go ahead. She was the same woman that I gave the suggestion about laying items atop her finds in the cart earlier. The cashier and manager could not be bothered to acknowledge customers. I had to listen the employee training concerns about whether she, the cashier would be in trouble for clocking in two minutes early. Well, thanks. You saved me some time by not making me read Goodwill's employee handbook. Neither of these two employees could be bothered to acknowledge customers. I did mention the prices on the yarn. All I was told was that they don't mark the merchandise. Well, duh. I know you personally didn't slap that sticker on the goods. I just mentioned that it's cheaper to buy it new. Ah well. My wife went there today to donate two beautiful rugs as we are remodeling our home. The rude male employee refused to even help my wife take the heavy rugs out of her suv and after pointing at a nearby bin, walked away! Another gentleman walking nearby came and helped her. Never going to donate anything to Gilroy Goodwill again. Imagine being rude to someone there to be charitable! read more

Terrible experience just trying to donate some usable items. I drove up and gave a genuine good morning to the lady working there while carrying a microwave up that I don't use anymore and she rudely said put it in the bin right here. I sat it in there and then I went to get a box full of toys and immediately She said Iturn around for me to the front. I showed it to her and she says that's $25. She could've simply said that she can accept it. I could've busted it up and throw it away. I have no problem with that however I showed her all the toys inside and I said ..you don't want these,? She said I can leave those but that (the box) is $25. I have no intention of paying at all. She could have simply said that she can't accept it and she would gladly take the material inside. I honestly just couldn't proceed from there so I took the box that I had and put it back in my car along with a lot of other large toys like a dollhouse and kitchen play set and drove back home. I'm just gonna break these perfectly good items up and just throw them away along with all the toys and the box that she rejected. Unbelievable. Too bad she got away with the microwave. Enough of that. I thought this is their business model and you want people to donate. She was completely ungrateful and contemptuous towards me. read more

Purchased them for less than $10.00. Found a few other items that will be very useful around the house like 2 vintage ice cream scoops for decoration and a ceramic blue tile plant holder. read more

I thrift a lot & seen a lot but selling MOLDED clothing let alone children's clothing is disgusting and so dangerous!! I came in around an hr before closing. I try in to inspect all items before purchasing but I was rushing as they were closing soon by the time I was done shopping. I was doing a quick look over of my items and noticed some spots on a new with tag item. I thought it was pen markings on the tag. They shoved everything into a bag at checkout. I left the bag for awhile in a closet as I forgot about my purchase. Once I emptied everything & removing tags to wash, I noticed the spots on the tag were actually MOLD and all over the clothing item. It was a Nightmare before Christmas sally print shirt so it was dark and not easily spotted at first. Not only that but what appeared to be a huge burned spot within the ruffles. I continued to inspect the items in my bag and the cashier had wrapped another new with tag Minnie Mouse dress around said moldy shirt. The mold spread to the dress. This is such a health hazard & I'm reporting it to the county!!!! DO BETTER GOODWILL!! Also, this store has gotten lazy with tagging. Rather than putting price tags through the size tag or seam, they've been flattening a sleeve & putting the tagging gun through it causing TWO holes in the sleeve. Sometimes I get excited at my finds that I don't realize where the tag is until I get home to remove it. read more

This Goodwill is severely overpriced on a majority of items where their sale price is higher than the item's original sale price. On top of that, there will be items with massive holes or tears in them and those items will be the same price as the same item that is like new. Do the workers not inspect the items fully before pricing them and putting them on the floor. What really prompted me to write this review, is today around 2pm while checking out, the cashier ran over to yell at someone leaving to "never come back to the store!" because she had a bag that was too big, while leaving me at the register. While, mind you, upon entering the store, throughout my entire time shopping, and wile waiting in line, this guy had his huge non-sericve dog (black poodle mix) off leash thorughout the store. How am I certain the dog was not a service dog? Dog was: -Not displaying service dog behavior (going up to people and wandering throughout the store alone) -Severely ungroomed (unbrushed, matted hair) -Had her white/blue retractable leash hanging from her collar -The man would laughingly say "Bella, well aren't you friendly today" -No vest And that same cashier and not one employee said anything to this guy about his dog. As I left, I saw the manager come out of the store and look for the lady with the big bag. I called the store to say something about the dog, but no one answered. The guy was clean and well groomed, so no, I'm not discriminating against this guy over potential hardships along the lines that they have no home and the dog goes everywhere with him. This is store, not a park, not a doggie day care, not a zoo. After both the prices and the lack of priorities from the employees, I'm kind of done with this store. I might as well just buy new items or look at garage sales/craig's list with how expensive they price everything now. read more

Wow now this is the most expensive Goodwill I've been to so far. It's a nice big store that's organized nicely but ugh expensive. I only looked at dishes, housewares and Nick nacks. Way over priced and 75% of what I looked at was chipped or broken. I didn't look at any clothing so I can't coment on that. Also they only offered 20% off on their color tag sale. Most places offer 50%off. Really disappointing. Probably won't come Back to this location because of this and this store is way the heck out there. Went in today to shop and was told that I could not carry my purse because it was too big . That is ridiculous it has my wallet and my medication and my car keys and my phone everything that a normal person would have . The lead was non apologetic and not helpful other than to tell me to leave my purse in the car . That is not a safe viable option . Also a sales associate looked at me and said that's not a purse it is my purse I even opened it up for them to see . Totally unacceptable I will not be donating and will tell all my friends not to donate to Goodwill . It's actually very sad because I have gone in before with a bigger purse and no one said anything also I'm there quite often at least two or three times a week read more

This Goodwill came highly recommended from a family friend. I was in need of a new dresser and this location was one that was supposed to a large selection of home furnishings. They did not disappoint. There was a lot of really nice unique pieces for sale. In particular I found their kitchen and coffee tables very nice. The only thing that stopped me was the prices. They were a bit high for a Goodwill store in my opinion. I would rather go to an At Home, Cost Plus, or Ikea. For the same price, or a bit more a Cost Plus, I could get brand new furniture. The rest of the store had the same huge selection of items. I was able to peruse the aisles for a long while lost in all the cool secondhand stuff. I actually wish I had more time to shop around in the clothing section to look for cool t-shirts. The store is HUGE. I would highly suggest for those who enjoy secondhand shops. read more

The old ass lady that was cashiering 2 days ago was holding my bag of items behind the counter because my husband's card wasn't working for some reason. Housemate broke/lost 2 Pyrex glass casserole dishes she took for work to do thanksgiving a month ago, and gave me $20 for them, which in reality doesn't cover even 1 so I went here and found a replacement for one at $6 and found they have a lot of new Merch at a fraction of the price. I saw fleece/Sherpa blankets still boxed in its original packaging from East India company and got $6 jeggings that were new in package. There are dressing rooms but for $6 I just bought it and washed it before wearing and they fit fine so I'm going to amass whatever clothing I want to donate and bring it over after Christmas and get another pair of jeggings while I'm there. Two star review.. yes at times you can find some cool stuff, I usually go once a week. What gets me sometimes is the pricing. I know they have overhead and employees to pay but it's also a non profit. I see prices on items way too high. For example: a decorative porcelain dog which should be about two dollars is 13.00. An old army jacket was 35.00 where you can get them for 10.00 at any garage sale or surplus store. I'm not saying it should all be free or a dollar but being a bit more realistic with pricing would be great seeing as how the items are donated. There is one cashier that always looks like her best friend moved away and she didn't have her morning coffee she only tells you how much you owe and thats it unless you are hispanic like her then she is soooo nice and practically walks them to thier cars. They are still better than salvation army. read more

This Goodwill has improved tremendously over the years. The last time I was here was probably about 6 years ago and it was very messy and items were priced above bran new, same items. I came in just walking down each isle, looking for a clown costume for Halloween. I got two dresser/side tables for $15 each which was super cheap and very sturdy. I had to come back with my truck to bring them home and they were courteous and held them behind the desk me me. Also when I arrived they helped me load them up. read more

I was very unsatisfied:frustrated that I was not allowed to carry my diaper bag inside the store. With 3 children under 5, we need a back up plan when shopping at a big retail store. My diaper bag had my kids water bottles, milk bottle, snacks, diapers, wipes, and an extra pair of clothes for my 7 month baby in case he had an accident. No way was I going to leave my diaper behind the cash register, not even close to a "locked place" but exposed to the public. So had to leave it in my car; I had to step out 2 times to get water then a snack. Goodwill needs a better safety plan guarding personal diaper bags instead of just asking a customer to leave it just there specially when the employee working at the register that demanded it decided to step out for a break or left for the day while I was still there. The ladies here can't seem to communicate store policies accurately. I had a kids bike on hold while I shopped, which was told it was ok, and they went ahead and sold it. Prices are way too high for what you get and full of rude young people or women who can't properly communicate in English. What better way to give back to the community is through donations. With their new remodel, donations are now accepted in the front by the store front and no longer in the back of the building. They will take almost everything off your hands that can be repurposed or they will help recycle it for you. Tax receipts are handed out for those who need the write off. read more

I'm extremely upset with these people. A week ago, I purchased some items from here while I was about to go into work. I let the casheir know I was indecisive and limited on time so I wanted to know if I could return any of the items I bought just in case I changed my mind. The casheir said as long as I kept the the tags on and the receipt I could bring it back within 30 days for a return. Fastword a week later and I came back with the tags still on my items and a receipt. This store is always chronically understaffed. After waiting in a long line, I was told they couldn't give me a return and could only do an exchange!!!! Last time I checked there was a big difference between a return and an exchange! This is the only goodwill I have ever been to that didn't do a cash back return!!!! I calmly explained to the casheir that I was told that they would give me a full return last time I was here and that I am really surprised they are unwilling to do so. I politely asked if I could speak to the manager. After that he called for the manager. After waiting around for several minutes more the manager never came. I had some where else I was scheduled to be so I left. I am boycotting this store!!!! read more

BREAKING NEWS!! This goodwill just re-organized their whole entire stores. All sections are in different areas. In all my time in Gilroy, this is the first time its happened!! You'll notice the difference since there are no more dvds in the case. Its only used for actual electronics now and the dvds have since moved next to the vhs. Also, You cant miss the 7 foot high shelves which holds all of that useless houseware crap. Also, I found something to my pleasant surprise. Very HIGH prices for used stuff that they received for free!!!!! Who would pay the same price or more than they would to purchase the item new? Not me! My daughter likes to buy jeans here and we went last night at about 8:20. She wanted to try some jeans on. Dressing rooms locked. I told her to ask at the register because they probably need to provide a key. She waited for ten minutes and was told they close the dressing rooms at 8 even though the store remains open until 9! What?!?!? You mostly sell clothing items, and you have no return policy.... obviously people are going to want to try things on! I understand there is a homeless problem here but just lock the dressing rooms and provide keys to potential customers if you are so concerned. My daughter just tried the clothes on in the middle of an aisle. Whoever manages this store needs to make some changes. Why don't you close the whole place at 8 if it's so necessary to close the fitting rooms at 8? You have three people standing at the registers to help zero customers and they can't allow someone to use a fitting room. Idiotic. read more

This was an ok Goodwill and worth a stop. I will start by saying, I'm not a big fan of Goodwills. They send a lot of items over to Ebay or shopgoodwill dot com and they have too many Target leftovers for my taste. However, this Goodwill had some treasures to be found. It's ok. I don't like that the have Halloween items filling the racks on August 12. They are probably shipping too much over to shopgoodwill and have to bulk up the shelves with something! read more

I am not happy with this goodwill. We were dropping off donated items and some lady walked up from the parking lot and said she wanted one of our items. The guy helping my husband take things out of our car let her take it to her car. Then he took the rest of the item to her car. What is up with that? I felt like she was waiting in the parking lot for people to drop thing off so she could get free stuff. It was pretty annoying!! read more

My family has been donating to Goodwill in Gilroy for years! We no longer will be doing that because apparently they have become quite picky about what they will accept as donations. We will donate to places that appreciate it! My husband and son attempted to donate a very gently used recliner in tip top shape today - 4/2/17- and were turned away! They also were set to donate a working television! The man that was working there was not even willing to look at the items. He instead said that he refused to look at or accept the items! He was very rude and offensive!! Shame on you Goodwill- you would not even be in business were it not for the generosity of the community donating to your cause!!!!! read more

Driving by to get to downtown Gilroy, my son thought it would be cool to pick through the LP records at Goodwill, so we went here. They have some nice selections from the 70's and prior, but nothing that sparked his interest so much that he wanted to buy it. The store is organized O.K. Notable items to me: they had a few good books, nice purses, lamps, decor and ties. Yarn skeins for $1 = can't beat that. read more

I have to come back to this review and update it because after a recent trip I was pleasantly surprised. The place no longer looked like every mother had let their child roam free to throw toys everywhere. There were no items on the floor. The shelves were updated and larger! This is a thrift store even Macklemore would be proud to shop at! I'm glad they got their act together and I will no longer be avoiding like the plague. read more

This has to be the most well-organized, cleanest, and cosmetically and aesthetically pleasing Goodwill I have been to by far. The layout of the store is dynamite and it looks just like a regular department store. Whoever the manager is here takes pride in his store and it shows, from the way the merchandise is stocked on the shelves to the cleanliness of the bathroom stalls, this Goodwill has it all ( and that's saying something for Goodwills, which are pretty much bare-bones, no frills types of places to buy bargains ). My Mom found all kinds of bargains here yesterday and walked away with two shopping bags of great discounted merchandise and we both agreed that this Goodwill was way better than any other one in the South Bay. Just visit it for yourself and one step inside and you'll agree with us that it is a cut above. It is also much larger than any other Goodwill I have been too and it takes FOREVER to get to the bathroom at the very right hand corner of the store from the entrance. :) read more

Love love love me some Goodwill!! I have found such wonderful stuff here. If you're looking for clothes, they are reasonably organized. Sizes are a little out of whack, but shirts are always with shirts, pants with pants, etc. But recently I've started utilizing their other departments as well and I am very excited to have found some great finds! I found a purple desk chair for a child's desk ($10) that goes great with my kids desk. I found a set of 4 wine glasses for $1 a piece. I found several waffle irons and was able to choose which best suited me and my needs (hahah, which was cheapest!) I even bought a bunch of Halloween decorations that I donated to my daughters school. I go there pretty regularly now, just to do a few minutes of treasure hunting. You never know when you'll find something great. read more

Place re-opened Jan 13 after at least a month long closure. Expansion is great.. store is well sorted with products. Definitely my favorite goodwill store. I thought I would never be addicted to looking around here, given we judge mom's purchases, but I have scored some amazing deals. read more
