I have probably made 100+ trips to Savers in the last couple of months. Moving out of a house that was loved and lived in for more than 46 years, required a lot of donations. The process of being able to pull up to the curb and load a rolling green cart and have the staff help and give a coupon too has been so easy. My mother-in-law asked me where she could easily donate items this morning and I recommended Savers to her as well! read more

I used to enjoy shopping at Savers because thrift stores were supposed to be places where families, students, seniors, and budget-conscious shoppers could find affordable items. Unfortunately, that no longer seems to be the case. The biggest issue with Savers today is the pricing. Many of the items on the shelves are donated goods, yet the prices often feel closer to retail than thrift store pricing. In some cases, I can find the same item new at a department store during a sale or clearance event for the same price, or even less. One of the most frustrating things I see regularly is when an item still has its original retail price tag attached, and Savers has priced it higher than the original selling price. How does that make any sense? If a brand-new item originally sold for less, why should customers pay more for it at a thrift store? The pricing on shoes and clothing is especially hard to understand. Seeing used shoes priced at $49.99 or more is becoming increasingly common. At that point, why wouldn't a customer simply buy a new pair? The same applies to clothing. Many items are marked so high that I can go to Nordstrom Rack and find brand-new merchandise for the same price or sometimes even less. Part of the fun of thrift shopping is finding a bargain. That feeling has largely disappeared at Savers. More and more often, shoppers are looking at price tags and wondering who approved them. Used merchandise should be priced like used merchandise, not like premium retail inventory. I understand that Savers promotes its community partnerships and charitable efforts, and I appreciate businesses that give back. However, it does make me wonder how much of these high prices actually support those causes versus how much simply contributes to revenue and executive compensation. From what I understand, the amount going back to those services is far less than many customers assume. The reality is that I hear people complaining about Savers' prices almost every time I shop there. Customers constantly talk about how expensive it has become. These are donated items, yet prices continue to climb. At some point, it starts to feel less like serving the community and more like maximizing profit. What is most disappointing is that it feels like Savers has forgotten why many people shop there in the first place. Customers come looking for affordability, value, and an opportunity to stretch their budgets. Instead, many are met with price tags that make them question why they are shopping at a thrift store at all. I still enjoy thrifting, but these days I find myself shopping at other thrift stores far more often because the value is simply better elsewhere. Savers may still have a large selection, but selection alone isn't enough when the prices no longer make sense. Until pricing becomes more realistic and customer-focused, I'll continue taking my business elsewhere. A thrift store should be about helping people find affordable items, not charging near-retail prices for goods that were donated for free. read more

I absolutely love this place! I have found some really cute and useful household items that were a great price. Staff is helpful with donations I've dropped off as well as helping me take purchases to my car. I'm not sure why they get so much hate, it's a thrift shop, I expect to sift through items and things to be all over the place. My absolute favorite find here so far is this beautiful teapot set for 4.99! I've been wanting one for a while and use it often. read more

Pros: Selection - good variety of brands. Saw pieces from Free People, Paige, Kut from the Kloth, Anthropologie brands. Organization - things are 90-95% sorted correctly by size, and the racks aren't overcrowded. Cons: NO FITTING ROOMS. At least you can exchange things within 14 days but it would make a huge difference if I could try things on before buying them, especially because of.. PRICING - clothes here are 30-40% more expensive than any other thrift store nearby. read more

Last time we were in SJ we stopped by and found some cool pieces. I remember it being a bit pricey but this time around, things were expensive. I know thrift/secondhand stores are upping their prices but some of the items were a bit too overpriced. There was some good stuff but not worth the price for "not being new". I really like this Savers location! It's big, well-lit, clean, and has a large parking lot. What's not to love? You can drop off donations in the smaller wing area on the side and get a coupon for 10% off your total purchase. Inside, there are rows neatly organized by clothing type (sweaters, t-shirts, dresses, jackets, etc) and mirrors in each row for you to use (no fitting rooms). They have a lot of occasion dresses (think prom or cotillion) and the prices are reasonable for what you get. I was able to get a cute skirt and cardigan for less than $20. All things considered, this is one of the better Savers locations in the Bay Area and a good place to hunt for treasures. read more

The clothes change often with seasonal stuff too. The store is well organized and the staff friendly. There aren't any dressing rooms, so you can try stuff on at home and return it within 2 weeks. Or maybe try clothes on over your clothes as some people do. read more

Their pricing can be inconsistent. Their toy aisle is usually a mess and they don't do a good job about keeping toy sets together. However, their book selection is amazing-- especially for kids. They are making some improvements with making the store less crowded which is nice to see. read more

A lot of improvement here in regards to the layout and crowd control but WOW have prices skyrocketed. You can find similar items for new at Ross, Burlington, Marshalls etc. And last time I was there I pulled a pair of jeans off the rack and a cockroach flew off. Will be my last visit here. Your prices are outrageous for a secondhand thrift store. There were lamps that were priced the same as they would be in Walmart or target, if not more. There was a three pack of baby onesies that had been separated and individually priced for over five dollars each, but one of them still had the original tag that said it was a three-piece set. This is probably my all time favorite thrift store. Always has a huge collection of every category, and I tend to go straight to the lingerie hoping for some vintage goodies and I always end up with my cart full within the first 15 minutes of entering the store, no joke! The pricing has been pretty good to me especially since I've noticed other stores have raised the way they do their pricing. The parking is a little crowded due to there being other big stores surrounding but there's still lots of empty parking to find! I could easily spend hours in this store so def give it a shot and have fun! read more

I used to looove Savers and was a dedicated shopper at the Meridian and Milpitas locations before they closed. On days I felt up for the drive I'd make the trek down to Almaden. Unfortunately, this Savers has undergone a lot of changes over the years and I can't say for the better... They took out dressing rooms and replaced it with jewelry cases. So unfortunately, you'll have to commit to those too-small jeans you think you're gonna fit after hitting up the gym a handful of times. Last time I checked you're able to exchange items within ~14 days, so I guess that's a plus. However, thrifting is a hit or miss. Sometimes you'll find great items, other times you'll walk out empty-handed. Lately, it's been the latter for me. The last thing that deters me from going back to Savers is being blockaded in every aisle because every person has a huge shopping cart. I think they did away with the smaller rolling baskets, which saved a ton of aisle space and allowed people to get past you. I'm sad to say I probably won't be going back to Savers to shop and will most likely come to donate items. Otherwise, I'll be going to the Goodwill up the road! read more

Been here only a couple times. Leaving a review about my experience purely for the bald register dude with the cap and facial hair and a round face. I got something from the case and the woman took down my name and told me to tell a cash register person my name so they could get it for me. Went directly to the cash registers after the dude finished checking out a person. Dude left directly after although I was standing there, comes back (he was the ONLY employee around there), tells me in a sassy tone that the register is closed and points to the sign and then gives me a spicy remark saying OH unless you're an employee or you work here, do you work here???? And im like uhh I got something in the case and they told me to tell someone my name, then he realizes I'm doing exactly what another employee told me to do and he walks away straight to the cases to get my stuff. I go directly to the self checkout pretty miffed and this place only gets a 3rd star because another guy came to help me (long curly hair and glasses?) And is super kind and nice. The bald dude comes back with my stuff and acts like he never gave me attitude. Like what was I supposed to do? Enter my name into the self checkout to get my item? I'm just doing what the other woman said. 2 stars taken off cus of the dude who acted like a jerk and didnt even apologize for misunderstanding me and acting like I was dumb. read more

Store is clean and organized. I found something that I liked at the jewelry display, but struggled to communicate with lady behind the counter. I don't believe English was her first language. Just FYI, this store has a policy for valuables in the display case where you have to write down your name on a slip of paper. Then your item will be set aside behind the counter. You then have to get in line and ask the clerk at the register to grab your item from the jewelry section. It's overall quite complicated for first-time shoppers. I can understand why the store does this (to prevent theft), but since it is hard for their non-English-speaking staff to communicate said policy, maybe the store should consider posting signage so that customers can read what the process looks like? I think it would overall reduce a lot of confusion. read more

Haven't been here in four years and there's no longer a cashier out front you have to use one of the self service checkout stand and payable by credit or debit card that seems to be the norm and today's age of high tech. I find some of the items overpriced for what they have in stock I could have bought them cheaper at Walmart. They do have 50% color tag though only a handful and pickings are slim to none. Would come across a few bargains electronics, furniture and sport equipment and nothing else at that on the plus side if you donate you get a 20% discount not a bad deal far better than Goodwill. Out of all the thrift stores in the South Bay, this here savers is our go to. There's just something about this location where I flat out get lucky! As a toy collector I love digging through their toy aisle and rediscovering forgotten gems todays youth had donated. You know what they say, one man's donation is another man's treasure. I really like this location because it's spacious and there's a lot to look at. I'll say the prices can sometimes be out of hand, but if you feel like something is priced too high you can ask a sales associate if they'll lower it. On a recent visit, my kid found a bag with 2 toy airplanes. They wanted 10.99 for it but the original price tags were still on them and they were each only 3.99. I spoke with a sales associate and she was able to get the price lowered to like 3.50 for the lot. I doubt this works for everything, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Books are buy 4 get 1 free and they usually have a wide variety of kids books, even some in different languages. Also, if you donate they give you a 20% off coupon. read more

This is my favorite thrift store. The prices are getting a little high but I've found plenty of gems here throughout the years. Recent find was an authentic vintage Celine bag that I was looking at on eBay and found it here just hanging with the rest of the bags for $30. Thank you for not knowing brand names but now they are being more cautious because it seems like a lot of bags are getting hung up behind the counter no matter what the brand is. Plenty of resellers but like I said can still find gems. Found a vintage YSL blazer and St. John two piece pantsuit in perfect condition so as always just gotta come often. Also, no dressing rooms but I usually don't have a problem trying stuff on. Wear a cami and biker shorts and you won't need a dressing room. read more

Probably the best thrift store I have ever been to. The selections are awesome! Found so much and the prices are priced reasonably. The first time I went, I found a few blazers and a denim skirt. I was so excited about my purchase. I already wore one of my blazers. I brought my cousin to Savers, and we had so much fun picking out outfits. This time around, I got a few vests, a pair of shorts, Columbia travel pants, and a leather belt. My cousin picked out several items as well. We were so excited with our purchase that we planned on our next visit. I hope they keep the pricing reasonable. read more

Super grateful that we still have a Savers around, I didn't know the next closest one is like Redwood City! I've shopped at Savers since High School (2004-ish), we all used to look for pieces to use as dance costumes for performances (back then there was the one on Bascom). As others have mentioned, the prices on some items is getting high. Be sure to really inspect the item and seriously consider the price before adding to your cart. For example, the last time I was there, I found a great vintage suitcase, but it was priced at $20 and locked shut (built-in lock). There were plenty of videos and tutorials online for picking the lock, but I wasn't going to pay $20 when I couldn't see what the condition was in-store. Another example, I found a beautiful men's sweater. Merino wool, from Banana Republic, new with tags ("NWT"). Because it was NWT, it was priced at $20. I was ready to go for it, but then I (luckily) noticed there were a ton of holes in the shoulder! $20 for a sweater with holes is ridiculous, NWT or not. That being said, I found some great gems on the same trip. A NWT dress from a niche brand I recognized immediately (usually retails for $160) for $20. Little dishes with 22K good details. A like-new Cynthia Rowley pajama top. The few people working were very nice. As soon as a line was starting to form at the self-checkout, they opened a register. They had a very diligent person helping with self checkout too. No complaints with customer service at all, especially considering it was New Year's Day. Again, I love Savers and am so glad we have one. Just be warned, you have to be a little more sharp/observant when shopping. Also a warning to the pricers to be a little more careful. For some clothing items (Target, Old Navy), the pricing is getting dangerously close to what you'd pay retail. read more
