Shopping in Aina Haina, Honolulu, Hawaii... Over eight years ago (according to my photos), I was here for a UYE (Unofficial Yelp Event). One of our Yelp Friends hosted a "Thrift Shop Hop" where we visited four thrift shops together. It was really fun! Holy Nativity Thrift Shop is one of the better thrift shops in Honolulu because it's for a good cause - plus... the prices are really reasonable! Today, Saturday, everything was half off - except the items with the green tag. My friend, Kenzie, was really happy to find wonderful bargains! She filled a WHOLE bag full of cute clothing! Yay! As for me, I saw a nice blouse... Too bad the line to pay was long at the time and we had to leave to go meet some people... I'll return back later and hopefully, it will still be there... Also, I want to browse through the craft supplies and household goods... I think I'll find treasures there! P.S. they have their own free parking lot. It was full, so, I just parked by Aina Haina Public Library.

First Annual Great Pumpkin Festival A new concept of fundraising for the Holy Nativity School is the Great Pumpkin Festival. A corral of pumpkins sitting in bales and loose hay. Little Mini pumpkins ($5) the Mediums ($10 ) and the mediums were at least 5 pounds and the Large ($20) with the pre purchased ticket. Walk through the pumpkin patch and pick your pumpkin! It was fun actually and I don't want to sound like a country pumpkin (no pun on words) but I saw white pumpkins for the first time! I got myself 2 of them and am going to paint faces and dress them up for my porch on Halloween. Food Vendors (Bonfire Pizza, All Kine Grindz and many others) surrounded the playfield to feed the many who joined the Holy Nativity School Parents, Students and Faculty. What luck as both Bonfire and All Kine Grindz are a few from my Favorite food truck list. In the gym sat many craft vendors and the timing was perfect to get ready for my holiday gifts. The school opened their cafeteria and the parents offered many baked goods and amongst it all, I saw Moena Café scones in the mix. I've marked my calendar for next year as I'm sure they will have an encore to a successful 1st time event. (by the way, $10 for the pumpkins were very reasonable. I bought a couple at a retail supermarket earlier in the week and it was twice the price for a small pumpkin)

I have so much clutter to get rid of. Someone's trash could be someone's treasure, but did you know that Goodwill and Salvation Army have become very picky? They do not accept many items, including strollers, car seats, and desks. I had a very nice $200+ jogging stroller that nobody wanted to accept, until someone told me to try the thrift stores. Over the past week I found 3 thrift stores that gladly accepted EVERY SINGLE item I wanted to get rid of. Holy Nativity was one of them. They are open Wednesdays and Fridays from 9am-3pm and Saturdays from 9am-12noon. You just drop your stuff off on the desks outside and get your receipt from the ladies inside. This past Saturday they were also having a "garage sale" or something, stuff was all over the place outside on the driveways, so if you're looking for a good deal, I would recommend checking this place out.

I am so thankful I finally had the opportunity to donate to this lovely little community donation…read moreand thrift shop in Moiliili. The shop opened at 9:30am and the small parking lot was already full so I waited in my car on the driveway in front of the door while about a dozen seniors stood patiently waiting for the store to open. Since I was unable to park once the doors opened I left my door open and ran into the shop to get help getting my stuff out of my trunk. The lovely lady who opened the door grabbed her little wagon and walked out with me so I could empty my trunk. Callie answered my questions about the community work the AL does with other non-profit organizations in Waikiki and the origins of the Assistance League. Apparently they sometimes acquire some precious pieces that go up for auction so if you're game, check their website for more information. I plan to spend some time here in the future to see what gems they have to offer. They may be smaller than the large thrift stores but they're local and they give back to the community they serve

As the song goes, "Hey, Macklemore, can we go thrift shopping?"…read more The answer is yes. Have you seen this economy? Let's get the bad out of the way first: Parking can be bad. Especially if you are there when people are donating as donors will often block the every car in the small lot by parking in the middle and having volunteers help unload. The parking is one way which creates the problem. I strongly recommend parking on Young street to avoid getting blocked in. Hours are very limited. Now on to the good: - Friendly volunteers with good organizational skills. - Low prices for most items especially home goods and they also test the electronic home goods. - Lots of seasonal items and a fair amount of non seasonal arts and crafts. - Air conditioned. - Very central location for people who live in town and you can make this a thrift shop crawl as as Central Union's thrift shop is 1/4 of a mile away and Goodwill is 1/2 a mile away. - Tax deductible if you donate. So you may only have $20 in your pocket, but that is enough to walk out of here with plenty of quality goods.

Seasonal stuffs are fun to find. Most items look lightly used or brand new. Once in a while there are junkie items but generally most are in a decent condition. Prices can't be beat. Shopping in Kaimuki, Honolulu, Hawaii…read more.. After 4 years of renovation, Goodwill Store is again open on Waialae Avenue! Located on the Ground Level of the new Civil Beat Plaza, the Grand Opening was at 9:30am on 9-1-23, Friday. The long line was formed way before 8:45am when I arrived. I parked in the free, open surface parking lot on Wilhelmina Rise, which filled up quickly. Free Refreshments, chances to win gift certificates from nearby Kaimuki businesses (examples: Chubbies Burgers, Daily Whisk Matcha, Cowcow's Tea, Koa Pancake House, Otto Cake, Broken Rice, Atsuka Nabe & Shabu Shabu, and $50 at The Surfing Pig), live music, and gift cards for the first 100 customers were the draw. At 10am, the first 300 people were allowed in the store. I happened to be #175. No gift card for me, but I got a free Donut from Zippy's, and a raffle ticket! Thank you! I enjoyed the clean, bright, air-conditioned, organized, spacious environment! I'll be back soon! Congratulations on your beautiful renovation!
